  • Mike was a thoughtful host who was great at communication, providing recommendations, and the house was stocked with all the extra things you don’t think of when renting a house, the hospitality was terrific. From my experience with Airbnb and rentals, Mike goes above and beyond in “customer service” and making his guests feel welcome. The house is a beautiful getaway, just as pictured, in a remote (but not too remote) location, it’s very quiet and peaceful. The house very comfortable - spacious and modern amenities, yet has a beautiful rustic cabin vibe. Thanks mike for a great weekend!

  • Michael's house is an excellent cabin getaway. Very close to the A.T. to do short hikes. While it's remote it is a quick 8 minute drive to stores and restaurants.

  • Michael was extremely gracious and a high caliber host. His picturesque cabin was the perfect location for our family Christmas celebration! The cabin is adorned with two wood-burning fireplaces and numerous charming accent fixtures. I highly recommend this cabin for a peaceful romantic getaway or a family event. You will absolutely be impressed with the quality of the “Mountain Myst!” Deborah

Peaceful countryside surrounds you with woods, streams, and pasture. The restored farmhouse has loads of room and porches where you can soak in a sunrise and a sunset. Birders paradise! Harper's Ferry, Frederick, Shepherdstown offer loads of fun and history. Two other houses, and a re-purposed Dairy Parlor are available for retreats too. Your stay supports farm programs that we offer children and adults from low income communities, people suffering with PTSD, and other life challenges.
Spring House is a part of Fox Haven - a historic organic farm and non-profit ecological education center located along the Catoctin Creek in Jefferson, Maryland, within one hour of Washington D.C. and 15 minutes from the charming town of Frederick, MD. The restored farmhouse is in a tranquil location, surrounded by fields, forests, and trails. Wide-planked wooden floors, found treasures from the farmland and creek, beds piled high with handmade quilts, and porches with views that immediately lower your blood pressure and make you sigh, “aah” create a haven for a weekend getaway, family vacation, working retreat, and learning adventure. - 1 bedroom with queen bed and full sized futon - 1 bedroom with double bed and 2 twin beds - 1 bedroom with 3 twin beds - 1 bedroom with 4 twin beds - 1 downstairs room with double futon Full kitchen with dishwasher Half bath on first floor, 2 full baths and washer/dryer on second floor. When you want to explore beyond the farm, lovely downtown Frederick offers a variety of shops, award winning restaurants, parks, performing arts theaters, Frederick Keys minor league baseball, and free concerts during the summer months. Jefferson, I dare say, has one of the best pastry shops within 100 miles. Let the sweet smell of homemade donuts and cakes guide you! Harper’s Ferry, Antietam, Sharpsburg, and even Gettysburg are all within a 20-50 minute drive for those who relish civil war history. For the adventurer in you, take a rafting or tubing trip down the Shenandoah or Potomac Rivers, or head up to Annapolis Rocks for a climb, or even hike a section of the Appalachian Trail – all within 20-30 minutes of the farm. There are several wineries and ciders within 10-40 minutes of the farm that give tours and tastings regularly, as well as breweries that create some tasty beer.
Spring House is surrounded by fields, woods, and streams. Wildlife abounds! The Catoctin Nature Center, Appalachian Trail, Harper's Ferry, the wonderful town of Frederick with loads of fine restaurants, shops, galleries, museums, live entertainment is a 15 minute drive away, and Brunswick provides easy access to the C&O canal towpath for bike riding. So much to do! Jefferson itself has a delightful diner full of local character, an ice cream and sandwich shop, Hemp's meats (all local and delicious), and the Jefferson pastry shop to fill your belly.
  • We had a group of nine, and the house was terrific. Nice spacious living area and kitchen, and plenty of comfortable beds. Beautiful setting. Host was very responsive any time I had a question. Would definitely book this place again.

  • A picturesque location with a wonderfully warm farmhouse feel. JoAnn is an excellent host with quick responses to all questions.

  • My family and I can't say enough wonderful things about the Fox Haven Spring House and working with JoAnn. We were looking for a cozy winter venue to throw a small baby shower (20 guests) and also have family stay for the weekend (8 guests). I was really wanting a baby shower that would feel cozy, intimate, and rustic -- and boy did the Spring House fit the bill. The house is large with enough seating for many guests, but has such a historic charm and warmth. All the decorative touches feel so authentic, from the quilts on the beds to the wooden carvings on the mantle place. Also, if you are interested in having a large group (I believe the house allows 16 guests total overnight) the Spring House has about any dish/food prep item in the pantry that you could ever need. We came so over-prepared with utensils, dishes, cooking implements, etc. to make food for the baby shower and we used almost none of it. In the huge pantry, there are mugs, glasses, dishes, serving trays, skillets, utensils - even a warming tray for keeping things hot. The stove, dishwasher, coffee maker, tea pot, fridge all worked perfectly. We REALLY appreciated all this as we prepared to host a gathering. The house is in a peaceful, remote area of the countryside and there are friendly cows on the property as well. If you're looking for a country getaway, this is it. Frederick is close by and has adorable shops and restaurants to experience as well. Few things to note -- make sure you really want a country experience. There is Wi-fi, which worked great, but no TV (who wants that anyway?). You may see the occasional spider, but that didn't bother us. The fireplaces are only decorative, but there is a great wood stove that helped keep us warm. There is central heating, which is kept at 65 degrees during the winter. During our stay, we ran out of wood for the stove and JoAnn was great about getting Taylor over to replenish it. She also allowed us to turn up the heat by a few degrees, since it was a cold weekend. Working with JoAnn in general was wonderful - she was so quick to answer all my detailed questions (throwing a baby shower is stressful!) Also, keep in mind that your stay will help Fox Haven support their wonderful non-profit programs, which you can learn more about on the website. Overall, we had the best stay and my family all agreed that we're so grateful for the memories we made this weekend. We're already talking about a return trip! Thanks to JoAnn and Fox Haven for making our weekend and baby shower such a special memory.

Beautiful hand crafted log and timber frame home nestled on 40 wooded acres. Abutting Middletown watershed, guests can access Gambrill State Park from this secluded property that is just minutes from downtown Frederick. Experience the beauty that nature has to offer, including a stocked pond and hiking trails. Conveniently located an hour from Washington, DC and Baltimore, and half an hour from Gettysburg, minutes from the Appalachian Trail and Greenbriar state park.
Keith sawed all the material for this timberframe Home. The front windows in the great room provide a beautiful view of sunsets and Middletown Valley (when the leaves are off the trees.) Sit in The front loft or the nice, wide front porch, and you feel like you are in the trees. This is a secluded spot, yet just miles from eateries, downtown Frederick, parks, and farms. There is so much to do! To protect the privacy of our guests, exact location will be provided several days prior to arrival.
Frederick has a lot to offer, with a variety of restaurants, historic sites, and recreation. There are local artisans to visit, and a myriad of experiences close by, including Gettysburg, Washington Monument State Park, Greenbriar Park, local wineries, Maryland Symphony, and Antietam. Despite the cabin’s secluded setting, grocery stores and many restaurants are just a couple miles away.
  • I wish they would invent a 6 star button, cause I think it's necessary to begin describing Keith and Lori's space and the experience I had with them. Not only is the space the perfect balance between being away from everything, yet close to everything, they were genuinely kind, and incredibly accommodating when it came to staying at the space, as well with a small event we did in the space. If you have any hesitations about booking here, I would do yourself the favor and throw them out the nearest window, this is a must stay!!

    Collin2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, quiet and secluded in the woods but close enough to Frederick if you need to pick anything up. We had a great time just hanging out in front of the fireplace while the kids watched a movie upstairs The kitchen had everything we needed for a weekend of meals for 3 families.

    Evan2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely large cabin in the woods for a relaxing vacation. Close enough to restaurants and shopping to still be convenient. The driveway did cause concern. Not sure we would have made it up after a heavy rain. Quick communication from owners. Full spacious kitchen. Queen bed on ground level; room with queen bed, room with 3 singles on main floor; and king (?) bed upstairs with rollaway stored in closet. Comfy lounging areas both on main floor and upstairs. Easy to have a spot away even if the house was full.

    Cathy2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • The lodge/cabin is jaw-dropping, and will make you feel like you're off in the wilderness somewhere. The fireplace really brings together the main open area, which has two balconies looking down from the second floor. It's perfect for group activities. Keith and Lori provided just what my group needed for the stay, and we had a wonderful time. Practically everyone in my group had ideas/hopes for visiting again in the future.

    Peter2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Keith and Lori were very helpful and communicative through the whole process! The cabin was very cozy and perfect for our group. Def would go back!

    Gabriella2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Keith and Lori's cabin is super beautiful. The beds were comfortable, the kids had fun playing around the pond on the property, and the adults really enjoyed the hiking trails at the nearby state park. Obviously, a lot of care went into the construction of this hand-made cabin.

    Quincey2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • Great escape into the woods!

    Kimberly2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin and property are amazing! My family loved sitting by the fireplace. Keith and Lori are so quick to respond to messages, and made the whole process easy.

  • Everything was so very lovely! Such a peaceful, beautiful, cozy place. The decor details and structure itself were like something straight out of a better homes and gardens magazine or Magnolia decorating show. Absolutely loved the gas woodstove, the plush and comfortable bed mattress, the linens soft as butter, fluffy towels, gorgeous beams and loft, and all of the cute decorative touches. Everything we needed was provided, and so close to the town center with a few really great restaurants and pretty golf course. Thank you again!

  • This is a unique stay with a feel of the past. Despite our stay in February, we were cozy with the gas stove and tons of blankets! Very clean, good bathroom, nice space overall. In a neighborhood, but you can pretend it’s more remote from the interior, and it’s close to lots of restaurants and shops/groceries. My family enjoyed the feel of being in an historic space for an overnight. We used the insta bed to sleep all of us, and that was quite easy. Fun stay in the past!

We offer a guest suite on the lower level of our house, with private entry, 10 minutes from historic Frederick. The suite's access is from a terrace, overlooking a wooded hillside, with a fire pit, grill, table & chairs. The suite has a bedroom, bath, laundry, and a family room with a fireplace. The suite includes a mini-fridge, coffeemaker, microwave, and dining area. Nearby attractions include several state parks, the Appalachian Trail, and wineries in the Middletown valley.
The suite is located in a ground floor walkout, with full west-facing windows, and a private entrance, below the main level of the house. We live on the upper level with separate access. The guest suite has its own climate control. You'll enjoy our terrace and fire pit, hammock, grill, and seating for a small group with a view of the sunsets over South Mountain. The laundry provides washer and dryer and a commercial kitchen sink for our guests' use. Our property is about an acre and the yard areas are bounded by woods on three sides. Our landscaping is generally rustic, but in the spring you might be lucky enough to share in the blooming of the azaleas, snowdrops, or bluebells! For our summer guests, we provide several fans. Although we do not have air conditioning in the guest suite, it is very rarely necessary in our location on Braddock Mountain. Please note that for health and environmental reasons we do not use pesticides within or outside of the house. We are happy to provide citronella candles for use on the terraces and citronella bug spray.
We live in a semi-rural residential area about 10 minutes drive from downtown Frederick and less than 5 minutes from Interstate 70. Our county road has no sidewalks, but has wide enough shoulders for strolling. In addition to historic Frederick, nearby attractions include four state parks within a 20-25 minute drive, plus the Appalachian Trail, Harper's Ferry, the C&O Canal, Antietam, etc. We provide a detailed guide for our guests of recommended restaurants and places to visit in the area.
  • Mary Margaret was very helpful and responded to questions within minutes. She took the time to give us tips on the area and was very friendly. We felt well attended to, but also felt like we had plenty of privacy and space. The location is quiet but within a few minutes drive to the heart of Frederick with plenty of restaurants and amenities very nearby. The guest suite is cozy and filled with books, board games, and other comforts that made it feel relaxing and inviting. We would definitely return again!

  • Due to international travel delays Chris went / took the extra effort making sure I was checked in and settled with such a late arrival. Loved the extra large bath towels. Nice touches with the “just in case” snacks.

On a very quiet neighborhood street, this room is in a walk out finished basement behind a historic 1860’s log cabin. Your room is in an addition, not inside the cabin itself. It is very quick & easy access to rte 70 entrance.
You have access to bedroom and bathroom, and there is a small fridge and a coffee maker in the room.
Very close and easy access to Rte 70. Also very peaceful and quiet neighborhood location

  • This was our third stay; it’s become our go-to spot when we want a quick getaway from DC. It is on a quiet street and is a short drive to Harpers Ferry. We enjoy taking our dog to the trails and then enjoying some craft beer at Harpers Ferry Brewing — a great dog-friendly brewery with beautiful, panoramic views. Highly recommend!

  • This is our second time staying at Nancy’s & we loved it as much as the first time. Check in was quick and easy, the apartment was sparkling clean, and there were a ton of personal touches and local tips. We had a great time relaxing and enjoying the peace and quiet. It’s the perfect spot for a getaway!

  • This is my second time this year staying at Nancy's place. It was a clean, welcoming and quiet. She was kind enough to allow my father and I to both bring our dogs. It was such a nice location to reach a lot of little towns and explore Antietam. We love the feeling of stepping back in time in Burkittsville. Getting the key is super easy with the lock box on the door. The extra cot that she put in the room was a full size bed and incredibly comfortable. Way more than I was expecting! There are towels for the dogs. Lots of suggestions for things to do around town. And tons of little touches that just make it feel like home. Nancy left us extra bottled water since there was something going on with the plumbing which we never even noticed. Cannot recommend this place highly enough!

    Amanda2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • This was a perfect place to stay while in town for a wedding- quiet and very clean. There were so many amenities and thoughtful touches- we felt very well taken care of!

  • Absolutely amazing apartment and stay. Nancy’s place is the cleanest airbnb we ever stayed at. It’s so warm and inviting, very thoughtfully and stylishly decorated. We felt at home with the comfortable bed, comfortable, the very soft and high quality extra towels and all the basics available for a convenient stay. The place was quiet. We appreciated the simple check in and check out. Nancy is a fantastic host and extra points for accommodating our well behaved dog.

Want to get away from the craziness of life for a short time~then our guest house is for you! Lose yourself among the lush greenery and stately trees of our little taste of paradise. The best part is that you are still only 10 minutes away from downtown Frederick where there are so many unique shops and restaurants. Washington DC and Baltimore are less than an hour away.
  • I had an amazing stay in the blue cottage. The cottage is surrounded by nature, totally private. Lots of fountains and sitting areas with fire pits around the property, a swing, horses and a lovely barncat. You get a great view of the sunrise from the top of the driveway, and right around the corner on Cherry Ln is a spectacular sunset view. Close to Frederick. The cottage itself is stylish, had a fully stocked fridge, espresso maker, and chocolates. It was overall spectacular. I will be back!

    Ryann2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Enjoyed our stay very much. Very secluded at the back of the property. Even saw a family of deer in the morning.

    Steve2018-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was absolutely amazing. Because of previous guest reviews, we had high expectations, and these expectations were definitely reached! The cottage is tucked away among trees, along with beautiful landscaping and a wonderful wooden walkway lit by colored lights. It was very private and just what my husband and I were looking for. It felt like a little oasis of our own!! Huge windows overlook a glistening trickling stream, and the sun sheds beautiful light into the room in the morning. The room itself is not only wonderfully and tastefully decorated, but extremely clean and well-stocked with everything from towels to a fridge full of every beverage you can think of (including half-and-half for morning coffee!). The shower felt quite luxurious with a fancy shower head and nice soaps, as well! My husband and I also loved sipping on the DELICIOUS coffee from the fanciest coffee machine I've ever seen while rocking on the bench out on the porch overlooking the previously-mentioned landscaping and bright green surrounding trees. 5-second version: Extremely private, amazing coffee, beautifully decorated, wonderful hosts; Stay at this cottage!

    Allison & Gordon2018-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • ABSOLUTELY AMAZING hospitality and retreat!!! I want to share this adorable getaway with all my friends, yet selfishly keep a secret for ourselves, lol. My boyfriend and I will probably turn into frequent guests. All of the small touches did not go over looked. The Ghiradelli chocolate that I devoured is my favorite (How did they know?). I felt like sleeping beauty on the comfortable bed and linens. The masks were perfect for applying to avoid the beaming morning sun. Yet the views were so tranquil and serene. I meditated by the stream. Mark was gracious enough to let me borrow his yoga mat. Entering the cottage with spa like music was a refreshing and invited a tranquil energy flow. We appreciated all of the recommendations for local bars and restaurants. It rained hard the entire weekend and Mark even offered to dry our clothes for us in his personal dryer. My boyfriend greatly appreciated the gifted beer and fresh zucchini from your garden! I could on but i want you to have your own amazing experience. Mark and Kim, thank you for your generosity and your sweet kindness. We are grateful!

    Tatiana2018-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful stay in this adorable cottage. Mark was very attentive, checking in frequently enough to see if we were OK but also letting us have our privacy. The cottage itself is very cute, well decorated, with an amazing view of the woods. Amazing coffee machine! Was great meeting the dog & seeing the horses on the property. Have already recommended to friends and would definitely come again.

    Maite2018-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • Would definitely describe Mark and Kim’s place as whimsical! Everything was wonderful and very clean! We enjoyed our stay very much!

    Kelly2018-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Honeysuckle cottage for an overnight getaway with 2 college girlfriends. It’s tucked away in a gorgeous little spot about 15 minutes from Downtown Frederick, which allowed us both easy access to great restaurants and feeling a million miles away from reality. The cottage was immaculate and beautifully furnished. We were obsessed with every detail, from the rustic light fixtures to the fragrant honeysuckle hand soap. Mark and Kim were great hosts and quickly responded to questions and suggestions for local restaurants, wineries, and breweries, even offering to arrange a private tasting with an up and coming neighborhood brewer. We spent our afternoon at Big Cork winery, a scenic 25 minute drive away, at their recommendation. It was just what we were looking for. Couldn’t recommend this experience more highly!

This custom built all wood (inside and out) log house (sleeps 4) sits on the original spring house foundation from the early 1800's. It has a large stone fireplace, perfect for a romantic atmosphere on chilly nights, as well as a classic wood cooking stove. The cabin is heated by wood, no central heat. The open loft bedrooms have built in bed and are connected by a catwalk. The upstairs is open to the downstairs and leaves the cabin with a large spacious feeling.
The upstairs is open to the downstairs and leaves the cabin with a large spacious feeling. There’s adeck off the back, overlooking the main house’s back yard and the neighboring horse fields. The yard, which belongs to the tenants of the main house, has a pig, geese and ducks, and dogs in it. The back deck in the mornings can’t be beat for sipping coffee and watching the horses as the dew burns off the fields. Besides the bedrooms upstairs, the living room has a single twin sized sleeper chair. Separate linens are not provided for the sleeper chair so please bring your own. Please note the cabin has steep stairs to the upstairs loft, which is open to below. Also, the cabin is heated by the fireplace and two small space heaters. There is no central heat.
This is a rural area outside Frederick between Frederick and Boonsboro. Its near wonderful hiking and state parks as well as battlefields and skiing. There's great shopping at the Hagerstown outlets and fine dining in Frederick. (Try VOLT, chef owner Bryan Voltaggio was runner up on Bravo TV's Top Chef!)
  • This place is everything I imagined and more. Me and my bf spent the weekend here for my birthday getaway and we couldn’t have picked a better spot. VERY cozy and inviting, it’s like we made it our home within the two nights we spent. Nothing can beat seeing the ducks, pig, & horses out in the field. I feel like I could just sit on the back balcony all day. Though I loved the visit/stay it’s just one thing, THE HEAT (which is recorded in the house description, no central heat). Being we are from the city (DC), we have neverrrrr lit a fire before or wood stove and though we used the house manual & watched YouTube videos we just couldn’t keep a consistent fire. We still survived and made the best of our time, bundling up under the blankets that are throughout the house! Will definitely be back once I brush up on my fire starter skills. Once again, thank you for the stay Kate! You have a gem on your hands.

    Cierra2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This place was beautiful and very comfy. Even though there is no central heat, the fireplace helps a lot and there are tons of blankets. There was a dvd player and a redbox close by so we could rent movies. I love how there were plenty of games in the cabin and a book with nearby trails/restaurants/activities.

    Megan2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • My girlfriend and I had a wonderful stay in this cozy cabin! It was a great getaway from the city.

  • Great place and great location! Wonderful little cabin that provides a quaint living experience.

    Thomas2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • The cozy cabin is exactly how it sounds, we even got too warm on a January night with all the supplies that Kate provided. Well located throughout some amazing parks and historical sights, we got to explore and find a variety of candies!

    Allyson2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Kate's place is great for a rustic getaway. Definitely on the chilly side but the fire warmed up the place nicely. Plus cozy blankets and space heaters kept us warm throughout the night. Close to Frederick, Harpers Ferry and battlefields. Would definitely visit again.

    Mari2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cabin. Everything we expected from a cabin weekend getaway. Wood burning cooking stove and a large fireplace were highlights of our stay.

Slightly off the beaten track, but easy commute to Frederick and Hagerstown, MD, I'm one mile from access to the Appalachian Trail and Greenbrier State Park, 3 miles from exit 42 off I-70, and 60 miles to DC and/or Baltimore . Quiet, peaceful country living .
at one time the house was a bank barn, so ceilings upstairs are low in some places ... less than 6'. smoking outside is fine please use ashtrays.

  • The Wander Inn was an amazing spot. My dog and I spent the holidays here while visiting family, and the location was great - quiet and private, but close to downtown Frederick, and even near a great walking path and pond. Rani was a terrific host and was very easy to get in touch with. The space was very neat, clean, and even had a few nice touches for the holidays. All in all a great visit, would highly recommend!

    Danielle2018-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Rani's place and her hospitality are unmatched. Her home was lovely and full of thoughtful touches-it made us feel right at home! Even when we got in pretty late, she made the point to come out and say hi and give us a tour of her home. She was available all the time, either in person or through messaging, but was also very mindful of privacy. The surrounding area was absolutely gorgeous as well. A great place to have a meal outside or just lay back and enjoy the view. We were celebrating my birthday and I cannot think of a better place to stay at. Everything about our stay was incredible and we can't wait to be back!

    Patricia2018-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • The setting of this spacious apartment is in the beautiful farming country of Maryland. It is quiet, relaxing, healing. It is not far from the city with all its restaurants and attractions. Rani, our hostess, was always available in person or by phone or text if we needed to communicate. She provided everything we needed for a few days of visiting with family. We highly recommend her place.

Relax and get away to the countryside! Jefferson is centrally located to enjoy the historic site of Harpers Ferry, explore the shops, art and fine food restaurants of Frederick, or take a scenic drive to award winning wineries and breweries! Cozy, two bedroom cottage is ideal for a family/group of friends. Each bedroom has a bath while living room pull-out sofa can accommodate two additional guests. Fully equipped kitchen, laundry room, outdoor seating and porches. Now with WIFI and Roku
Built in 1886, this cottage was originally part of a large dairy farm. The main property, often referred to as Right is Right Farm, was previously owned by the Lovell family who lived there for over three generations. The cottage remained vacant since the early 1970's and had one bath and a second winding service staircase in the back. The original wood siding, shutters, plaster, trim and wood flooring was fully restored.
Jefferson is a rural town, surrounded by bucolic views of farms and open sky. Its' central location: 15 min. from Frederick, Harpers Ferry, Brunswick train station and an hour from Washington DC, has made this quaint little town a perfect, quick get away.

Mary Ann thoughtfully and carefully decorated the house with beautiful antiques and fun modern accessories. The space is surprisingly large and could easily accommodated a couples weekend or family visit. We ventured into both Jefferson and Frederick during our visit to 1886. The food options were plentiful and did not disappoint. Check out Starvin' Marvin for delicious local pizza & Dempsey's for the breakfast! Mary Ann was quick to respond and made our weekend visit seamless. We look forward to visiting again soon!

  • Super nice place and outstanding communication made the trip a breeze

  • This home is absolutely spectacular! It was spotless, warm, and beautifully decorated. We oohed and ahhed over the kitchen, which is spacious and well stocked, and barely left the house over a frigid long weekend. When the driveway froze over, they came over right away to salt it so we could get to our car without slipping. Mary Ann couldn't have been nicer or more responsive. A perfect long weekend away from the city. We'll be back!

  • We highly recommend the Historic 1886 Farmhouse Cottage! We travel around the world and it is one of the most thoughtfully-appointed places we have stayed — from the tasteful design of the cottage to the amenities provided for guests. This is our second visit and we look forward to returning again next year.

  • A BEAUTIFUL cottage with fantastic amenities in a great location for day trips or just to curl up in blankets and rest. The kitchen, bathrooms, and storage spaces are truly special luxury vacation spaces. Dan & Mary Ann are great hosts.

After a complete renovation, we decided the cabin would be perfect for airbnb. It's completely separate from the main house and offers both of us a great deal of privacy. It is also warm and cozy yet extremely comfortable. Hope to see you.
Come and stay in our guest cabin on our 6 acre retreat. Peace and quiet abound as you sit on your private front porch and enjoy the nature at your feet. You can even feed our chickens as they scamper about. The cabin is equipped with a small kitchen area (no stove but with fridge, sink and microwave), full bath, living room and adjoining sleeping area. It has heat, AC, and a wood burning stove. There is also a 40" HDTV with all the cable channels (including HBO) and a nice selection of DVD's to watch. The sofa converts to a single bed and a full size airbed is available upon request. All this and only 10 minutes to downtown Frederick with all its restaurants and shops. Washington, DC is less than 1 hour drive or you can take the nearby commuter train to Union Station in DC. .
We live just outside of Frederick, MD in a semi-rural setting. Yet getting to downtown Frederick takes only 10 minutes and we are very convenient to commuting routes to Washington, DC and Baltimore. The best of both worlds.
  • Gerry’s place is wonderful! Peaceful and tranquil. Exactly what we needed as a getaway. Loved the snacks and beverages. Gerry is also an excellent host and person. Will definitely return to Shady Bear!

  • Super cozy studio cabin! We enjoyed every minute we spent there. We were able to make a fire with the wood provided that made it even cozier! The location was perfect. We were able to go to downtown Frederick, Hagerstown Outlets, Charles Town Casino and Harpers Ferry all in 2 days, still having time to relax in the cabin. This is definitely somewhere we would go again.

  • The space is amazing. It's a traditional small cabin in the woods. My girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed this clean and unique space. Gerry was more than accommodating, and the check-in and check out process were simple and straightforward. Frederick is a beautiful place to explore, and this cabin is highly recommended.

  • Fantastic hosts, and a delightful cabin in an absolutely lovely setting! The hosts were exceptionally attentive, their dogs were friendly, the cabin was cozy and the surroundings were exceptionally peaceful. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend this lovely spot.

  • This is a great little hideaway that's close to Frederick for visiting, but quiet an cozy when you're done with downtown. Gerry is an amazing host and is extremely responsive with any requests. The little touches make this a spot we would definitely visit again if we were in the area.

    Geoff2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Gerry's place is perfectly located to explore the area - everything I wanted to do was within a 20 minute drive. i came to hike, both the cabin is so cozy that I wasn't upset about waiting out a downpour with a cup of coffee one rainy morning. Gerry and Dana (as well as the pups) are friendly and sociable. The cabin was well stocked with thoughtful extras. I drove past the address twice (arrived at twilight)- look for the red newspaper mailbox. I love dogs, but if you don't - give Gerry the heads up because they will absolutely run to greet you!

  • It was me and my girlfriends first trip together and wouldn't of picked a better place for a little getaway. The cabin was cozy and quiet almost felt like we were in the middle of nowhere. Although it's a 10 minute drive to downtown. We were greeted by 2 very friendly dogs each morning. The snacks and drinks were an awesome touch. As was the fresh eggs we were sent home with. Definitely gonna make a trip back

  • An amazing place to say if you're ever visiting Frederick MD. The view is amazing, the house is gorgeous, and the quick response is outstanding. Couldn't have asked for a better visit.

  • My wife and I used to live on this property and it was a JOY to get to be the first guests at the AirBNB for Valentine’s Day weekend. The place is not only beautiful but the hosts are top notch and the views are the best in Frederick! We highly recommend booking a stay here! You will not regret it!
