Places to stay in Jefferson
Peaceful countryside surrounds you with woods, streams, and pasture. The restored farmhouse has loads of room and porches where you can soak in a sunrise and a sunset. Birders paradise! Harper's Ferry, Frederick, Shepherdstown offer loads of fun and history. Two other houses, and a re-purposed Dairy Parlor are available for retreats too. Your stay supports farm programs that we offer children and adults from low income communities, people suffering with PTSD, and other life challenges.
Spring House is a part of Fox Haven - a historic organic farm and non-profit ecological education center located along the Catoctin Creek in Jefferson, Maryland, within one hour of Washington D.C. and 15 minutes from the charming town of Frederick, MD. The restored farmhouse is in a tranquil location, surrounded by fields, forests, and trails. Wide-planked wooden floors, found treasures from the farmland and creek, beds piled high with handmade quilts, and porches with views that immediately lower your blood pressure and make you sigh, “aah” create a haven for a weekend getaway, family vacation, working retreat, and learning adventure. - 1 bedroom with queen bed and full sized futon - 1 bedroom with double bed and 2 twin beds - 1 bedroom with 3 twin beds - 1 bedroom with 4 twin beds - 1 downstairs room with double futon Full kitchen with dishwasher Half bath on first floor, 2 full baths and washer/dryer on second floor. When you want to explore beyond the farm, lovely downtown Frederick offers a variety of shops, award winning restaurants, parks, performing arts theaters, Frederick Keys minor league baseball, and free concerts during the summer months. Jefferson, I dare say, has one of the best pastry shops within 100 miles. Let the sweet smell of homemade donuts and cakes guide you! Harper’s Ferry, Antietam, Sharpsburg, and even Gettysburg are all within a 20-50 minute drive for those who relish civil war history. For the adventurer in you, take a rafting or tubing trip down the Shenandoah or Potomac Rivers, or head up to Annapolis Rocks for a climb, or even hike a section of the Appalachian Trail – all within 20-30 minutes of the farm. There are several wineries and ciders within 10-40 minutes of the farm that give tours and tastings regularly, as well as breweries that create some tasty beer.
Spring House is surrounded by fields, woods, and streams. Wildlife abounds! The Catoctin Nature Center, Appalachian Trail, Harper's Ferry, the wonderful town of Frederick with loads of fine restaurants, shops, galleries, museums, live entertainment is a 15 minute drive away, and Brunswick provides easy access to the C&O canal towpath for bike riding. So much to do! Jefferson itself has a delightful diner full of local character, an ice cream and sandwich shop, Hemp's meats (all local and delicious), and the Jefferson pastry shop to fill your belly.
  • We had a group of nine, and the house was terrific. Nice spacious living area and kitchen, and plenty of comfortable beds. Beautiful setting. Host was very responsive any time I had a question. Would definitely book this place again.

  • A picturesque location with a wonderfully warm farmhouse feel. JoAnn is an excellent host with quick responses to all questions.

  • My family and I can't say enough wonderful things about the Fox Haven Spring House and working with JoAnn. We were looking for a cozy winter venue to throw a small baby shower (20 guests) and also have family stay for the weekend (8 guests). I was really wanting a baby shower that would feel cozy, intimate, and rustic -- and boy did the Spring House fit the bill. The house is large with enough seating for many guests, but has such a historic charm and warmth. All the decorative touches feel so authentic, from the quilts on the beds to the wooden carvings on the mantle place. Also, if you are interested in having a large group (I believe the house allows 16 guests total overnight) the Spring House has about any dish/food prep item in the pantry that you could ever need. We came so over-prepared with utensils, dishes, cooking implements, etc. to make food for the baby shower and we used almost none of it. In the huge pantry, there are mugs, glasses, dishes, serving trays, skillets, utensils - even a warming tray for keeping things hot. The stove, dishwasher, coffee maker, tea pot, fridge all worked perfectly. We REALLY appreciated all this as we prepared to host a gathering. The house is in a peaceful, remote area of the countryside and there are friendly cows on the property as well. If you're looking for a country getaway, this is it. Frederick is close by and has adorable shops and restaurants to experience as well. Few things to note -- make sure you really want a country experience. There is Wi-fi, which worked great, but no TV (who wants that anyway?). You may see the occasional spider, but that didn't bother us. The fireplaces are only decorative, but there is a great wood stove that helped keep us warm. There is central heating, which is kept at 65 degrees during the winter. During our stay, we ran out of wood for the stove and JoAnn was great about getting Taylor over to replenish it. She also allowed us to turn up the heat by a few degrees, since it was a cold weekend. Working with JoAnn in general was wonderful - she was so quick to answer all my detailed questions (throwing a baby shower is stressful!) Also, keep in mind that your stay will help Fox Haven support their wonderful non-profit programs, which you can learn more about on the website. Overall, we had the best stay and my family all agreed that we're so grateful for the memories we made this weekend. We're already talking about a return trip! Thanks to JoAnn and Fox Haven for making our weekend and baby shower such a special memory.

  • Fox Haven is an incredible place. We came for a yoga retreat. There was plenty of room for games and food and time to hang out. The dairy Parlour was perfect for the yoga and the fox haven team was incredible in the planning!

Relax and get away to the countryside! Jefferson is centrally located to enjoy the historic site of Harpers Ferry, explore the shops, art and fine food restaurants of Frederick, or take a scenic drive to award winning wineries and breweries! Cozy, two bedroom cottage is ideal for a family/group of friends. Each bedroom has a bath while living room pull-out sofa can accommodate two additional guests. Fully equipped kitchen, laundry room, outdoor seating and porches. Now with WIFI and Roku
Built in 1886, this cottage was originally part of a large dairy farm. The main property, often referred to as Right is Right Farm, was previously owned by the Lovell family who lived there for over three generations. The cottage remained vacant since the early 1970's and had one bath and a second winding service staircase in the back. The original wood siding, shutters, plaster, trim and wood flooring was fully restored.
Jefferson is a rural town, surrounded by bucolic views of farms and open sky. Its' central location: 15 min. from Frederick, Harpers Ferry, Brunswick train station and an hour from Washington DC, has made this quaint little town a perfect, quick get away.
  • Beautiful house in great area. Spotless with great amenities. Loved the place!!!

    Larry2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay in this beautifully restored historic home. Everything we needed to cook and relax was available. Good communication, conveniently located to Harpers Ferry and Frederick, and a well stocked kitchen. I highly recommend this lodging option to travelers.

    Kim2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • The 1886 Farmhouse cottage is a true hidden gem! The restoration and renovation is absolutely beautiful. Mary Ann thoughtfully and carefully decorated the house with beautiful antiques and fun modern accessories. The space is surprisingly large and could easily accommodated a couples weekend or family visit. We ventured into both Jefferson and Frederick during our visit to 1886. The food options were plentiful and did not disappoint. Check out Starvin' Marvin for delicious local pizza & Dempsey's for the breakfast! Mary Ann was quick to respond and made our weekend visit seamless. We look forward to visiting again soon!

  • Super nice place and outstanding communication made the trip a breeze

    Randall2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • This home is absolutely spectacular! It was spotless, warm, and beautifully decorated. We oohed and ahhed over the kitchen, which is spacious and well stocked, and barely left the house over a frigid long weekend. When the driveway froze over, they came over right away to salt it so we could get to our car without slipping. Mary Ann couldn't have been nicer or more responsive. A perfect long weekend away from the city. We'll be back!

  • Love it!

    Cheri2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • We highly recommend the Historic 1886 Farmhouse Cottage! We travel around the world and it is one of the most thoughtfully-appointed places we have stayed — from the tasteful design of the cottage to the amenities provided for guests. This is our second visit and we look forward to returning again next year.

We offer a guest suite on the lower level of our house, with private entry, 10 minutes from historic Frederick. The suite's access is from a terrace, overlooking a wooded hillside, with a fire pit, grill, table & chairs. The suite has a bedroom, bath, laundry, and a family room with a fireplace. The suite includes a mini-fridge, coffeemaker, microwave, and dining area. Nearby attractions include several state parks, the Appalachian Trail, and wineries in the Middletown valley.
The suite is located in a ground floor walkout, with full west-facing windows, and a private entrance, below the main level of the house. We live on the upper level with separate access. The guest suite has its own climate control. You'll enjoy our terrace and fire pit, hammock, grill, and seating for a small group with a view of the sunsets over South Mountain. The laundry provides washer and dryer and a commercial kitchen sink for our guests' use. Our property is about an acre and the yard areas are bounded by woods on three sides. Our landscaping is generally rustic, but in the spring you might be lucky enough to share in the blooming of the azaleas, snowdrops, or bluebells! For our summer guests, we provide several fans. Although we do not have air conditioning in the guest suite, it is very rarely necessary in our location on Braddock Mountain. Please note that for health and environmental reasons we do not use pesticides within or outside of the house. We are happy to provide citronella candles for use on the terraces and citronella bug spray.
We live in a semi-rural residential area about 10 minutes drive from downtown Frederick and less than 5 minutes from Interstate 70. Our county road has no sidewalks, but has wide enough shoulders for strolling. In addition to historic Frederick, nearby attractions include four state parks within a 20-25 minute drive, plus the Appalachian Trail, Harper's Ferry, the C&O Canal, Antietam, etc. We provide a detailed guide for our guests of recommended restaurants and places to visit in the area.
  • Mary Margaret was very helpful and responded to questions within minutes. She took the time to give us tips on the area and was very friendly. We felt well attended to, but also felt like we had plenty of privacy and space. The location is quiet but within a few minutes drive to the heart of Frederick with plenty of restaurants and amenities very nearby. The guest suite is cozy and filled with books, board games, and other comforts that made it feel relaxing and inviting. We would definitely return again!

  • Nancy’s place was the perfect location for our adventure. Everywhere we planned to visit was a short drive. Her place very clean and beautifully decorated.

  • This was our third stay; it’s become our go-to spot when we want a quick getaway from DC. It is on a quiet street and is a short drive to Harpers Ferry. We enjoy taking our dog to the trails and then enjoying some craft beer at Harpers Ferry Brewing — a great dog-friendly brewery with beautiful, panoramic views. Highly recommend!

  • Quaint and perfect for anyone not planning to spend tons of time at the AirBNB. It was clean, had all the amenities for coffee and washing up. It was exactly what I needed, a place to relax after a long day out.

    Ellie2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is our second time staying at Nancy’s & we loved it as much as the first time. Check in was quick and easy, the apartment was sparkling clean, and there were a ton of personal touches and local tips. We had a great time relaxing and enjoying the peace and quiet. It’s the perfect spot for a getaway!

    Joanne2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is my second time this year staying at Nancy's place. It was a clean, welcoming and quiet. She was kind enough to allow my father and I to both bring our dogs. It was such a nice location to reach a lot of little towns and explore Antietam. We love the feeling of stepping back in time in Burkittsville. Getting the key is super easy with the lock box on the door. The extra cot that she put in the room was a full size bed and incredibly comfortable. Way more than I was expecting! There are towels for the dogs. Lots of suggestions for things to do around town. And tons of little touches that just make it feel like home. Nancy left us extra bottled water since there was something going on with the plumbing which we never even noticed. Cannot recommend this place highly enough!

    Amanda2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • This was a perfect place to stay while in town for a wedding- quiet and very clean. There were so many amenities and thoughtful touches- we felt very well taken care of!

    Becca2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing apartment and stay. Nancy’s place is the cleanest airbnb we ever stayed at. It’s so warm and inviting, very thoughtfully and stylishly decorated. We felt at home with the comfortable bed, comfortable, the very soft and high quality extra towels and all the basics available for a convenient stay. The place was quiet. We appreciated the simple check in and check out. Nancy is a fantastic host and extra points for accommodating our well behaved dog.

Want to get away from the craziness of life for a short time~then our guest house is for you! Lose yourself among the lush greenery and stately trees of our little taste of paradise. The best part is that you are still only 10 minutes away from downtown Frederick where there are so many unique shops and restaurants. Washington DC and Baltimore are less than an hour away.
  • I had an amazing stay in the blue cottage. The cottage is surrounded by nature, totally private. Lots of fountains and sitting areas with fire pits around the property, a swing, horses and a lovely barncat. You get a great view of the sunrise from the top of the driveway, and right around the corner on Cherry Ln is a spectacular sunset view. Close to Frederick. The cottage itself is stylish, had a fully stocked fridge, espresso maker, and chocolates. It was overall spectacular. I will be back!

  • Enjoyed our stay very much. Very secluded at the back of the property. Even saw a family of deer in the morning.

    Steve2018-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was absolutely amazing. Because of previous guest reviews, we had high expectations, and these expectations were definitely reached! The cottage is tucked away among trees, along with beautiful landscaping and a wonderful wooden walkway lit by colored lights. It was very private and just what my husband and I were looking for. It felt like a little oasis of our own!! Huge windows overlook a glistening trickling stream, and the sun sheds beautiful light into the room in the morning. The room itself is not only wonderfully and tastefully decorated, but extremely clean and well-stocked with everything from towels to a fridge full of every beverage you can think of (including half-and-half for morning coffee!). The shower felt quite luxurious with a fancy shower head and nice soaps, as well! My husband and I also loved sipping on the DELICIOUS coffee from the fanciest coffee machine I've ever seen while rocking on the bench out on the porch overlooking the previously-mentioned landscaping and bright green surrounding trees. 5-second version: Extremely private, amazing coffee, beautifully decorated, wonderful hosts; Stay at this cottage!

  • ABSOLUTELY AMAZING hospitality and retreat!!! I want to share this adorable getaway with all my friends, yet selfishly keep a secret for ourselves, lol. My boyfriend and I will probably turn into frequent guests. All of the small touches did not go over looked. The Ghiradelli chocolate that I devoured is my favorite (How did they know?). I felt like sleeping beauty on the comfortable bed and linens. The masks were perfect for applying to avoid the beaming morning sun. Yet the views were so tranquil and serene. I meditated by the stream. Mark was gracious enough to let me borrow his yoga mat. Entering the cottage with spa like music was a refreshing and invited a tranquil energy flow. We appreciated all of the recommendations for local bars and restaurants. It rained hard the entire weekend and Mark even offered to dry our clothes for us in his personal dryer. My boyfriend greatly appreciated the gifted beer and fresh zucchini from your garden! I could on but i want you to have your own amazing experience. Mark and Kim, thank you for your generosity and your sweet kindness. We are grateful!

    Tatiana2018-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful stay in this adorable cottage. Mark was very attentive, checking in frequently enough to see if we were OK but also letting us have our privacy. The cottage itself is very cute, well decorated, with an amazing view of the woods. Amazing coffee machine! Was great meeting the dog & seeing the horses on the property. Have already recommended to friends and would definitely come again.

    Maite2018-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • Would definitely describe Mark and Kim’s place as whimsical! Everything was wonderful and very clean! We enjoyed our stay very much!

  • I stayed at Honeysuckle cottage for an overnight getaway with 2 college girlfriends. It’s tucked away in a gorgeous little spot about 15 minutes from Downtown Frederick, which allowed us both easy access to great restaurants and feeling a million miles away from reality. The cottage was immaculate and beautifully furnished. We were obsessed with every detail, from the rustic light fixtures to the fragrant honeysuckle hand soap. Mark and Kim were great hosts and quickly responded to questions and suggestions for local restaurants, wineries, and breweries, even offering to arrange a private tasting with an up and coming neighborhood brewer. We spent our afternoon at Big Cork winery, a scenic 25 minute drive away, at their recommendation. It was just what we were looking for. Couldn’t recommend this experience more highly!

On a very quiet neighborhood street, this room is in a walk out finished basement behind a historic 1860’s log cabin. Your room is in an addition, not inside the cabin itself. It is very quick & easy access to rte 70 entrance.
You have access to bedroom and bathroom, and there is a small fridge and a coffee maker in the room.
Very close and easy access to Rte 70. Also very peaceful and quiet neighborhood location

  • Everything was so very lovely! Such a peaceful, beautiful, cozy place. The decor details and structure itself were like something straight out of a better homes and gardens magazine or Magnolia decorating show. Absolutely loved the gas woodstove, the plush and comfortable bed mattress, the linens soft as butter, fluffy towels, gorgeous beams and loft, and all of the cute decorative touches. Everything we needed was provided, and so close to the town center with a few really great restaurants and pretty golf course. Thank you again!

  • This is a unique stay with a feel of the past. Despite our stay in February, we were cozy with the gas stove and tons of blankets! Very clean, good bathroom, nice space overall. In a neighborhood, but you can pretend it’s more remote from the interior, and it’s close to lots of restaurants and shops/groceries. My family enjoyed the feel of being in an historic space for an overnight. We used the insta bed to sleep all of us, and that was quite easy. Fun stay in the past!

    Amy2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • This is an adorable cabin perfect for a romantic getaway. We spent hours on the couch in front of the fireplace, it was very cozy and romantic. 100% recommend!

Beautiful countryside vistas, nature-lover's paradise, feels like you are far away, yet the fine food and art of Frederick are only a 15 minute drive up the road. Hikes, Harper's Ferry, Ski Liberty, or just the quiet of our bucolic setting await. It can be a part of a larger retreat when combined with 2 other houses on the farm, and a restored Dairy Parlor. However, we can not hold weddings due to county zoning. We can have rehearsal dinners and other events though. You can join a class too.
Chestnut House is a part of Fox Haven - a historic organic farm and non-profit ecological education center located along the Catoctin Creek in Jefferson, Maryland, within one hour of Washington D.C. and Baltimore, and 15 minutes from the charming town of Frederick, MD. Chestnut House is a restored early 19th century farmhouse cradled by beautiful rolling hills on a gravel country road. A creek gurgles in the front yard, woods loaded with birds, and a chestnut orchard are on the other three sides of the house. A big red barn - no animals - and re-purposed dairy parlor also sit on the property. The house has a large kitchen with double oven, lots of counter space, and a big farm kitchen table for all to share. There are two large rooms downstairs, bay window and fireplace, the other with plenty of space to stretch out for some yoga and board games. The front porch is wide and lovely, a perfect place to relax and enjoy the peace. Walking trails and the country road provide breathtaking views, birds of all sorts, and the Catoctin Creek is home to big blue herons, eagles, beaver, and plenty of rich plant life - a feast for the senses! Antiques, civil war history, rock climbing, canoeing along the Potomac or Shenandoah Rivers, minor league baseball, art studios, outlet shopping, mountain biking and so much more are all within 15-20 minutes of the house. Plenty of wineries, cideries, and distilleries are within 10-30 minutes away. The farm office is inside the house, so the phone will ring occasionally, thought we try to turn the ringer off when guests are here. If we are holding classes out in the barn, you will see other folks around. Check in with us to see what is happening the weekend of your stay. You might want to join in the fun. Your stay supports farm programs that we offer children and adults from low income communities, people suffering with PTSD, and other life challenges.
Chestnut House sits along a gravel country road surrounded by fields, woods, and streams. There are a few houses up the road, but you are unlikely to see many people - mostly wildlife. Places to eat within a 5 minute drive include Ingram's Diner, an ice cream and sandwich cafe, Jefferson Pastry Shop, and Watsons chicken carry out. There is a small grocery in town, but a Safeway in Middletown or the Common Market and other grocery stores are in Frederick and will offer more options. The Appalachian Trail is a short drive (15-20 minutes) and offers great hiking and rock climbing. Bicyclists love it out here! Harper's Ferry is about a 15-20 minute drive and there's plenty of history, whitewater rafting and tubing, and quaint shops and flea markets to explore. Frederick offers an abundance of restaurants, art galleries, shops, live entertainment, museums, parks, and a triple A baseball team to watch. Brunswick is a great place to hop on the C&O bike path, grab some coffee and a homemade meal at Beans in the Belfry. There are many artists in the Middletown Valley, as well as historic sites to explore.
  • We havenow come here for 5 years. My kid talks about the visit all year round. Fox Haven is a wonderful spot doing great work.

  • I rented the farm to host a Shamanic Healing class. The energy was perfect, the location in nature helped with the grounding and everyone in the class loved the space. Looking forward to renting again. Oh and the kitchen is fantastic, anything we needed we could find easily.

  • Large house which accommodated our crew for a wedding in Myersville. The grounds are beautiful. The beds are comfortable, plenty of amenities in the kitchen and that beautiful, log cabin feel.

    Diana2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Love staying at Fox Haven. This was my 3rd stay there with a group for a yoga retreat. So far we have stayed at all the houses, and the Chestnut House May be my favorite. Though it has the least amount of beds, the layout is nice and the location is great as it is close to the Dairy Parlor and the Barn. JoAnn and the staff are very friendly and helpful and the grounds are beautiful. Very grateful for our time there and look forward to returning .

    Meghan2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful views and lovely country house.

    Nancy2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Fox Haven provides a beautiful get away, close to Frederick. I have stayed there before, at another one of the houses, and loved it. This time, we hosted some of our family there for our wedding, just 5 minutes away at Stone Manor Country Club. It is the perfect combination of close to town and out of the way and provided an opportunity to stay in the same location. Would definitely keep recommending it!

    Claire2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures do not do justice to how amazing and peaceful this place really is. Would highly recommend

    Alexander2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a marvelous time here! Fox Haven is a truly beautiful property. We stayed at Chestnut House in August, and enjoyed the wonderful weather out on the porch and on the grounds -- beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and lots of stars at night. Everything inside Chestnut House was clean and clearly labeled. Although JoAnn was away on the weekend that we were there, she was quick to respond to any questions, and other wonderful folks were around (Lacey). Part of Chestnut House is an office for Fox Haven; obviously no one will be working there during your stay, though the phone might ring, and if multiple events are happening on the farm, you might have some slightly lost folks wander up to Chestnut House and knock on the door. Downtown Frederick -- which is terrific, with lots of lively restaurants, brewpubs, distilleries, and museums -- is only 15-20 minutes away. I highly recommend Fox Haven to anyone, especially to large groups who are interested in a.) staying on and exploring a beautiful farm and b.) checking out downtown Frederick. Thanks, JoAnn and company!

  • This place was clean, big, beautiful, easy to find, and so homey! We were in the area for a wedding and didn’t want to spend the down time in a hotel room. This space was perfect! Easy check in and totally private. They even left a bottle of wine and plenty of snacks for when we returned from a long day of preparing for the wedding. Highly recommended.

After a complete renovation, we decided the cabin would be perfect for airbnb. It's completely separate from the main house and offers both of us a great deal of privacy. It is also warm and cozy yet extremely comfortable. Hope to see you.
Come and stay in our guest cabin on our 6 acre retreat. Peace and quiet abound as you sit on your private front porch and enjoy the nature at your feet. You can even feed our chickens as they scamper about. The cabin is equipped with a small kitchen area (no stove but with fridge, sink and microwave), full bath, living room and adjoining sleeping area. It has heat, AC, and a wood burning stove. There is also a 40" HDTV with all the cable channels (including HBO) and a nice selection of DVD's to watch. The sofa converts to a single bed and a full size airbed is available upon request. All this and only 10 minutes to downtown Frederick with all its restaurants and shops. Washington, DC is less than 1 hour drive or you can take the nearby commuter train to Union Station in DC. .
We live just outside of Frederick, MD in a semi-rural setting. Yet getting to downtown Frederick takes only 10 minutes and we are very convenient to commuting routes to Washington, DC and Baltimore. The best of both worlds.
  • Gerry’s place is wonderful! Peaceful and tranquil. Exactly what we needed as a getaway. Loved the snacks and beverages. Gerry is also an excellent host and person. Will definitely return to Shady Bear!

    Scott2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Super cozy studio cabin! We enjoyed every minute we spent there. We were able to make a fire with the wood provided that made it even cozier! The location was perfect. We were able to go to downtown Frederick, Hagerstown Outlets, Charles Town Casino and Harpers Ferry all in 2 days, still having time to relax in the cabin. This is definitely somewhere we would go again.

    Ashley2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • The space is amazing. It's a traditional small cabin in the woods. My girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed this clean and unique space. Gerry was more than accommodating, and the check-in and check out process were simple and straightforward. Frederick is a beautiful place to explore, and this cabin is highly recommended.

  • Came back here for the third year in a row and had a great time as always! Looking forward to coming back next year already!

  • Fantastic hosts, and a delightful cabin in an absolutely lovely setting! The hosts were exceptionally attentive, their dogs were friendly, the cabin was cozy and the surroundings were exceptionally peaceful. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend this lovely spot.

    Stacey2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great little hideaway that's close to Frederick for visiting, but quiet an cozy when you're done with downtown. Gerry is an amazing host and is extremely responsive with any requests. The little touches make this a spot we would definitely visit again if we were in the area.

    Geoff2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Gerry's place is perfectly located to explore the area - everything I wanted to do was within a 20 minute drive. i came to hike, both the cabin is so cozy that I wasn't upset about waiting out a downpour with a cup of coffee one rainy morning. Gerry and Dana (as well as the pups) are friendly and sociable. The cabin was well stocked with thoughtful extras. I drove past the address twice (arrived at twilight)- look for the red newspaper mailbox. I love dogs, but if you don't - give Gerry the heads up because they will absolutely run to greet you!

    Stephanie2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • It was me and my girlfriends first trip together and wouldn't of picked a better place for a little getaway. The cabin was cozy and quiet almost felt like we were in the middle of nowhere. Although it's a 10 minute drive to downtown. We were greeted by 2 very friendly dogs each morning. The snacks and drinks were an awesome touch. As was the fresh eggs we were sent home with. Definitely gonna make a trip back

The spacious apartment for two is situated above my art studio and accessed via indoor stairs to second floor. It is furnished with a queen-sized bed, seating & dining area with magnificent views of the mountains in Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland. The bathroom and galley kitchen are located on the first floor adjacent to my art studio. My art studio is off-limits to guests other than as a pass-through to the galley kitchen and bathroom. We provide fresh towels and linens, basic condiments and snacks. Let us know if you have any dietary restrictions. The galley kitchen, located on the first floor, is equipped with coffee & tea supplies; a small refrigerator and microwave. PLEASE NOTE: The galley kitchen is not for cooking and meal preparation as in a full kitchen. It is for heating simple food and drink items in the microwave. The bathroom has a shower. Meads Run Farm is near the Potomac River in western Loudoun County, Virginia's wine and horse country, minutes from the C&O Canal bike and hike path (on which you can bicycle to Harpers Ferry, WV only 12 miles away). Bring your hiking shoes and backpack for a day hike on the Appalachian Trail, minutes from our home. Taste local wines at one or more area vineyards, enjoy antiques shops and finish the day at an award-winning restaurant. Country fairs, festivals, farm and arts tours are other key features of this area. The historic towns of Leesburg, VA and Frederick, MD are only 20 minutes away by car. We both love the outdoors and look forward to sharing our enthusiasm and knowledge about the area, including our interest in local agriculture & John's organic vegetable garden; native plants, birds and other wildlife.
For some of our favorite restaurants, vineyards, points of interest, please go to the Guidebook section. Please note that grocery stores are one-half hour away in either Frederick, MD or Leesburg, VA if you wish to stock up on prepared foods and basics. There is a 7-11 convenience store in the Town of Lovettsville. We live in a rural area which still has horse and cattle farms, open space and small villages scattered through the county. Lovely country roads can lead you to a vineyard, an arts festival, a farmers' market, local musicians playing in a brew pub or cafe. Lovettsville hosts an Oktoberfest in late September, nearby Waterford has its well-known annual Waterford Fair in October; the Western Loudoun Artists Studio Tour is held every June; events at Morven Park in Leesburg are close enough to consider during your stay; and much more.

  • Beauty, comfort and peace are just a few words to describe our stay. Suzanne and John are the most incredibly kind and wonderful hosts. Their care for your stay is evident throughout the place and all the wonderful touches and information they provide is what makes your stay so memorable. The place is located perfectly- you can get to so many places in just a short time - yet you’re able to get away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy beautiful scenery and tranquil sounds. Their home/place is truly beautiful, relaxing and enjoyable. If you enjoy furry family members, you’ll enjoy Mr Kit Kat (friendly kitty) along with other furry friends. If animals aren’t your thing, they’ll be happy to give you space. Be sure to eat at the local Market Bistro - amazing dinner! So many places and things to do nearby- I can’t even begin to write it all. If you are in the area, please know - this is the best place to stay. We are already looking forward to next years trip!

This is the historic Dr. Garrott House Circa 1840. Located in the historic Town of Burkittsville. The house is a large bright dwelling in the heart of Burkittsville. It offers a large dining and living room. Burkittsville is minutes from Harper’s Ferry, Sharpsburg, Antietam Battlefield and Frederick City. Burkittsville is surrounded by farm lands and next to the Appalachian Trail at the top of South Mountain.
  • This was a beautiful and comfortable space. The house itself is both grand and relaxing. We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen and relaxing in the beautiful living room. We were only here for a short visit, but would love to come back earlier in the fall when the weather is better to do more exploring. There’s a lovely apple orchard and cidery down the road that we enjoyed thanks to Paul’s recommendation. Paul was a very responsive, flexible host.

    K. Lorraine2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Paul's house. We appreciated the location (eg., surrounded by farms, near the Appalachian trail), impressive size of the house for personal space, antique look-and-feel to fit with the town's history, but with a number of modern amenities, such as brand new kitchen appliances, and other attentions to guest comfort. For example, he was thoughtful in greeting us shortly after we arrived and his having provided a basket of chocolates, wine in the living room and a number of beverages and condiments in the refrigerator. We also enjoyed using the functioning fireplace and knowing we could take advantage of the wood burning stove if we were interested. As we celebrated Thanksgiving with friends of ours in this small and quaint town, the location was perfect for us. All told, we'd highly recommend other guests staying here.

  • Paul's home was a true treasure to stay in. The home, from the 1840's, is tucked into a quaint community that is also a historical landmark. The entire community is rich with Civil War significance, which Paul went into great detail about at our check-in. The home is filled with all modern amenities you need, but still stays true to the time period the house was built. Paul stocked the home with bottled water, snacks, and a bottle of wine. We were close to Harper's Ferry and the must-see Big Cork Vineyards. If you love history and want to get away from the bustle of the city then this home is for you! Would absolutely stay again.

  • We booked this the day before our travel date and Dimitry was very quick to respond with all of the information we needed for the house. We found the house to be in a quiet neighborhood close to several outdoor adventure parks, the Appalachian Trail, and Harper's Ferry. We found enough towels and bedding in the house for my husband and I, though we did bring our own. There is also now a coffee maker and several selections of teas and some coffee for you to drink. If you come when it is hot, I would recommend you turn on the AC units in the bedroom and downstairs when you arrive to start cooling off the place. The mattress in the main bedroom is a full size/double (as stated in the listing) and is rather firm. There is also a twin bed in the front room with a very soft mattress. We would stay here again.
