Places to stay in Ixworth
A period detached country cottage with great character and charm and modern amenities in the heart of Suffolk near Bury St Edmunds and Cambridge. We have successfully hosted family reunions, wedding parties, friend and family get-togethers and hen parties. Set in a rural village, bracing country walks abound, most ending in splendid country pubs -- indeed an award-winning country pub is at hand. Accommodation for 8 - 12 persons (stretching to 14) @ an average cost of £30-45pp.
The Cottage sleeps 9 comfortably and two large sofas with bedding & sleeping bags provided allow 10/12 within the House at a push. An Annex room above the garage sleeps an additional 3 with shower, bathroom and tea/coffee facilities, and is available for a modest additional cleaning charge. This is a charming country cottage in a pristine rural setting. This period detached property offers relaxed, comfortable and modern accommodation with many period features and great character. Perfect for weekend getways as the accommodation is quite flexible and lends itself very well to a reunion of friends and family groups of all ages.
Bury St Edmunds is a charming market town with an impressive ruined Abbey set in a great park. The town itself is bustling with many attractive shops and great restaurants and pubs. Try a pint in The Nutshell, Britain's smallest pub in the town centre. Moyses Hall Museum also in the centre has many local curiosities. A range of excellent shopping is available in Bury. Market days are Wednesdays and Saturdays when trader stalls take over the town centre selling fresh local produce, cheese, meats and assorted other goods. There is also a local farm shop, complete with tea room, in Depden, the next village beyond Rede.
  • We had a fantastic stay with the host very helpful and the house lovely. I actually don't think the pictures do the house justice in terms of size of the rooms and how aesthetically pleasing the house is.

  • I spent a weekend in this lovely cottage to celebrate my 60th birthday with 5 friends. We had an amazing time relaxing in this well equipped, cosy and spacious accommodation. Everything we needed was here. A nice touch was the welcome package which included snacks and Prosecco. The Plough pub was recommended by Eric and did not disappoint. We had a delicious Sunday lunch and the staff were so friendly. We would love to stay here again.

    Sally2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Eric’s place is charming cosy and in a beautiful location. There was plenty of space for our group and we loved being all together in the large dining room. The local pub (The Plough) is fantastic we had a delicious lunch here. There are scenic walks from the door and pretty Bury St Edmunds is a short drive away. Thanks for a lovely New Years break!

    Emily2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Eric's house was the perfect place for our family Christmas. The photos in the listing don't do it justice. The space is warren-like, with three sitting room spaces (one with a fire place) and a dining room on the ground floor. The master bedroom above the snug sitting room is completely dreamy; high, beamed ceiling and an en-suite shower. Just fab. Above the kitchen are two bedrooms, a guest bathroom and an office with a single bed in it. We didn't use the annex but the garage utility room was great for food prep/storage and laundry etc. The kitchen has everything you need - big double oven with separate grill and tonnes of pots, pans and plates. Sound travels in the house, so don't gossip about your sister or do anything else noisy, to save blushes. If you're tall, practice ducking before staying as it's a historic house with some very low beams and ceilings. There isn't much in the village within walking distance... apart from a pub, which happens to be possibly THE friendliest pub I have EVER been to (I've been to lots) and opposite the house is a red phone box, repurposed as a tiny library - so you really have all you need within a few steps of the house. In short this is a great place for get-togethers, big meals and chats by the fire.

  • This is a great place to stay out in the country, a stone’s throw from a pub with great food.

    Melissa2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic house in a great location. Full of character have to watch the low beams!

    Kate2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is such a beautiful house and was perfect for our weekend away with friends. The dinner room very much became our hub and it was the perfect size for our group.

  • We had such a lovely stay at this gorgeous, historic house. The home was a wonderful base for our weekend and the surrounding area is just beautiful. The hospitality was perfect and I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks for such a superb space to the host.

  • We stayed at Janes lovely apartment in her wonderful grounds near her Stables. The location for us was perfect. It was Christmas Eve and the village of Stanton was amazing which could be reached within half an hours walk. It was so Christmassy in the village with a nice pub and a fish and chip shop as well as great Christmas lights. Good off road parking and a warm comfortable room, with a nice TV. What more could you want. Thanks Jane and a Happy New Year. Jan and Brain

Our converted barn is in a peaceful location and beautiful setting. In close proximity to a stunning local nature reserve and a short drive from historic Bury St Edmunds and Lavenham. The station in the local village of Thurston offers regular services to Cambridge and Norwich. The area has plenty of country walks, great pubs and restaurants, and the Suffolk coast is within an hours drive.
Hedgerow Barn is Grade II listed and has been beautifully converted to retain its original features. The studded beam work is all exposed, and it offers a large open plan living space with all the facilities you would expect. The Barn offers rustic period charm with 21st century living. Many of the furnishings are antique. There are two TVs, one concealed behind the cupboard doors above the fireplace in the living area with a DVD player, the other in the upstairs double bedroom. There is a very efficient electric heating system with an independent thermostat for every room. The Barn is well equipped for self catering with many cooking utensils, gas hob and oven, microwave, toaster, undercounter fridge with small freezer compartment, dishwasher, washer/dryer, iron and ironing board. To minimise the provisions you need to bring the following are all provided in the Barn: Muesli, Cornflakes, 1.5 litres milk, tea, green or herbal tea, coffee ( freeze dried instant and cafetière if you want to bring ground coffee) black pepper, salt and olive oiled vinegar. the bathrooms have shower gel, shampoo and soap at every basin. You will also find kitchen roll, dustbin liners and all washing up equipment, including dishwasher tablets. If you want to eat out there are plenty of places locally, many of them listed in the orange file in the Barn - ask us if you want any details in advance. Bury st Edmunds has all the major supermarkets (Waitrose, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Asda ) so if you want to arrange an online delivery to arrive ahead of you, tell us your slot and we will receive it for you and make sure all perishables are put in the fridge/freezer. Additional fridge/ freezer space can be provided on site if required. We also provide loo roll, all towels, tea towels, bed linen ( except if you are using our travel cot when you will need to bring your own cot bedding). You'll find shampoo, hairdryer and soap at every basin. We are happy to clean the Barn and change the linen mid-stay for guests renting the Barn for more than a week - let us know when you arrive ( or during your stay)if you would like this and we can arrange a mutually convenient time.
The barn is set in the heart of rural Suffolk. There is a Suffolk Wildlife Trust nature reserve in easy walking distance. There are two local pubs in the village, at least four dog friendly pubs within walking distance and many more in surrounding villages. The medieval historic town of Bury St Edmunds, with its cathedral, abbey and twice weekly market is a 10 minute drive away. There is an excellent Christmas market here. Beautiful historic Lavenham with its beams and thatched cottages is a 25 minute drive away. National Trust properties including Ickworth Park and Melford Hall are all within a half hour drive. For children Banham Zoo and Jimmy's Farm are easily accessible. A 10 minute drive away is Wyken Vineyard which has a high quality gift shop called the Leaping Hare,a fantastic restaurant and weekly farmers market. There are many other excellent restaurants and in the area.
  • Highly recommend staying in Nicky and Denzil’s beautiful barn. We had an amazing stay here. The barn is beautifully decorated and the hosts are very thoughtful.

  • Had a lovely stay at Hedgerow Barn, lovely touches with the biscuits coffee, teas, milk, and flowers. Found the barn very cosy and inviting, loved watching all the birds on the feeders. Would love to come back and visit during the summer months. Had a very relaxing time, thank you Nicky and Denzil :)

  • A beautiful, quaint stay! There were 4 of us with 2 dogs and the space was perfect. The upstairs bedroom is very spacious, the downstairs bedroom is small but we loved it! So cosy! We spent every day going on long local walks to the local pubs and spent each evening playing board games with a glass of wine. The kitchen and living room space is a perfect size - and had everything we needed. Thoughtful touches were added - especially the yummy biscuits!

  • Nicky & Denzil’s place was perfect! Exactly as it was described and had everything we needed. We wanted to book a space that allowed us to chill out and explore. It was just over an hour to Southwold which was perfect for us! It was clean and tidy and had everything we needed to make delicious dinners. Little touches, biscuits (for us and the dogs) and flowers. We felt relaxed and at home. We were four adults and the space was perfect for us. Thank you very much. We will be back.

Only 1/2 hour away from Cambridge on the train, Bury is a lovely historic town built on a medieval grid. My Victorian house is on a quiet street and in the town centre, and the room has bunk beds so is ideal for young people travelling together.
This room is ideal for two young people travelling together - sleeping in adult-size, comfortable bunk beds, or for one person. You can have use of the kitchen to prepare your meals, and use the fridge, cooker and washing machine, as well as all crockery and utensils.
Bury is large enough to be interesting and have lots to do and see, but small enough to walk around and not get lost. It is very old and has amazing churches and a cathedral, public gardens and many medieval buildings.
  • Karen was very accommodating, was very quick to response and was happy to take a booking at very short notice, the room is bigger than it appears in the photos, it was comfortable and very close to the town centre.

    Myles2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Karen's house is the perfect place to stay in the heart of Bury St Edmunds. She was very kind and welcoming and she has the sweetest dog. Everything was just as I expected it to be from the listing and I would not hesitate to stay there again. Thank you Karen

Located in a charming Suffolk village with direct access to a stunning NT park, House of Wilde offers a stylish interior and a very large garden. It is a truly unique retreat offering home from home accommodation for up to 5 adults. We also have a small fold up bed for younger guest and a travel cot. Extra amenities include board games, books, table tennis and a dressing up box. This living space provides the perfect staycation for families or equally it is ideal for those travelling for work.
PLEASE NOTE -The safety and well-being of my guests is always a number one priority - and never more so than now, during the Coronavirus outbreak. Following the outbreak, millions of people on Airbnb are continuing to travel but understandably, some travellers are uncertain about whether they should book a trip right now. Please be aware Air bnb are monitoring the situation and will share updates on their site as soon as they have them. In the meantime, I am following the relevant guidance to help stem the spread of Covid 19. This includes extra cleaning with a disinfectant to all high touch surfaces, including light switches, tv remotes etc. I would also like to reassure you that, to the best of my knowledge I have not had any high risk guests nor have I personally been in contact with anyone who has the virus. Can I please ask that any potential guest considering a visit, follow the guidelines as set out by the government which includes frequent hand washing and using an alcohol based hand sanitizer. Please get in touch with myself or Air bnb if you have any further queries. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Maintained to a pristine standard, the space consists of two light-filled double bedrooms, a kitchen / living area, shower room and a large, living room. A single Sofa bed in the lounge comfortably sleeps an additional guest, as does a travel cot for a smaller visitor. All fresh bedding and towels are provided. The property itself is situated to the far side of a large patio area at the rear of the main house, and so offers a secluded, quiet, and peaceful getaway in amongst nature. There is ample off road, secure, parking. The open plan living room (complete with bar) extends outwards via French doors onto a patio area with a fire pit and ping-pong table. There is further extensive outdoor space including a large patio and a garden measuring ¾ of an acre. We are also in the fortunate position to offer direct and private access to the adjacent Ickworth Park, via a secluded gate from our garden.
Situated in the Suffolk village of Horringer and enclosed by trees House of Wilde offers an idyllic place of respite. Historically the house and garden belonged to the Ickworth Estate, now reachable through a gate in the trees and a short leisurely walk through the woods. Horringer itself is a small village centered around the Ickworth estate, with two local pubs a five minute walk away both offering great food and drink. Horringer is close to the medieval town of Bury St Edmunds, which can be reached via the bus (a minutes walk from House of Wilde) or is just a five-minute drive by car. The quaint town boasts the smallest pub in England, a regency theatre and a beautiful Cathedral dating to the 14th century. There is also a train station, a modern shopping centre, a traditional market and a multiplicity of high quality bars and restaurants.
  • The House of Wilde is a super place! There's plenty of room and it's warm and cosy, with comfy sofas and beds. This was a repeat visit so we knew what to expect and again we weren't disappointed.

  • We loved staying at Kerry’s place for our long weekend away with our 16 month year old son. Great location with the national park right on your door step. Lovely long walks. And the main town only 5-10min away. Highly recommending staying here.

  • We had such a lovely weekend staying at Kerry’s place. The decor is gorgeous, the beds were comfy and although its situated in the back garden, the place felt very private and homely. Must also add it’s only a 5 minute journey into Bury - ideal location. Absolutely would recommend and I hope we will be returning soon

"This place is stunning..." A warm welcome awaits you in our lovely village home, with three large bedrooms for our B&B guests, modern private bathroom, second shower room and a separate large and comfy guest sitting room with smart TV. Cooked breakfast included, plus superfast broadband and easy parking in private driveway. Country walks, cosy log stove and board games on colder nights. Lovely garden, table tennis, croquet and outdoor pool in summer. Period charm with a modern twist.
Note that we take only one Airbnb party at a time, and are happy to host any number from one to six! There are three spacious guest bedrooms, two doubles with king-size beds and one with twin single beds, which can interconnect with another bedroom (great if you're staying with children). If your booking involves three couples, the two single beds can be linked to make a 6ft double. We supply tea and coffee etc (plus kettle) upstairs in a charming sitting space between the two double bedrooms. There is also a large private sitting room (see 'guest access'). The house is Grade 2 Listed and is part 17th Century, part 18th Century and part 19th Century, but with all mod cons including superfast broadband. There is a contemporary bathroom with a great shower; this is not ensuite but it is for the private use of guests only. There is also a second shower room which is handy for larger groups. I should add that, because this is an old house, it's not particularly manageable for people with mobility issues, in that there are a few steps between the bedrooms and the bathrooms, and this can be a bit tricky for anyone who needs to use a stick.
The beautiful market town of Bury St Edmunds is only 15 minutes away by car, as is Thetford Forest in the other direction. And Cambridge is just an hour away. There are plenty of places to eat within a few miles (although not in the village itself) and a village shop just up the road plus several more a couple of miles away. The whole area is superb cycling country and there are some lovely Suffolk Wildlife Trust reserves, such as Redgrave and Lopham Fen, a short drive away. I have put together a list of places to eat around here, including website addresses and post codes for your satnav. Please just ask me to email it to you if you would like to take a look before you come.

  • Our stay at Jane and Roger’s was fantastic. I had a feeling when I booked it that it would be just what I was looking for and it was, and more. Jane and Roger went above and beyond ensuring we had a comfortable stay, even researching the closest car park to an event we were attending. Breakfast was just as good as previous reviewers have mentioned, scrumptious. The house is beautiful and Jane and Roger were the best hosts we could wish for.

  • Troston Lodge is the jewel in Suffolk's crown! Jane's house is a great place to stay, especially for groups: multiple bedrooms, private living area and a great breakfast in the morning. All at a reasonable rate! Jane has thoughtful touches with an extensive range of tea and coffee available and extras like hair dryers and ironing facilities. It was a comfortable stay with Jane and Roger being accommodating whilst allowing for us to have privacy. We shall be booking again to return in warmer weather - namely for the pool! Thank you Jane and Roger: what a wonderful home you have!

Has cuppa-kit, light self-serve breakfast goods, a toaster, microwave & chiller. The annex is good for contractors, business travellers, couples & solo adventurers. Weekends are usually blocked, but your stay may be continued into the weekend on request.
The entry to my home is thru an old building - where you'll be staying. The main picture shows the passageway, with the doors to the room and wetroom. The doors open away from each other, meaning you can pass between invisibly - my kitchen window (mainly behind leaves) is the only one which looks directly on to the annex. Use an entry code to come & go as you wish. Don't be fazed by the lack of windows on the outside - it really is here!
Thetford is a very historic town. There are museums, Dad's Army tours, and High Lodge Thetford Forest Adventure Park (Go Ape, Cycle Trails, Concerts, more) 5 miles away There's a nightclub, cinema and half-dozen pubs within a few minutes walk. There's plenty of eateries minutes if not seconds away, and there's a European supermarket open til 10pm yards away. It's town-centre, but mostly quiet, being enclosed by walls. On the edge of Thetford Forest and at rivers convergence, there's a lot of nature to be found with just a short walk.

    Alex2019-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • Karen's place is quirky but cosy! The room is well supplied with a chiller, microwave, toaster and plenty of cereal. Although only heated by a plug in heater, it stayed really warm despite some really nasty wintery conditions. The shower in the wet room downstairs was great - lots of water pressure and really hot. The alley you need to go down was very dark, so get your phone torch ready if you arrive after sunset! Karen was there to meet me despite me turning up an hour early and was very welcoming, and also provided a little guide to the accommodation in the room to explain the ins-and-outs. The room is right in the middle of town so convenient for the town centre shops and also close to the river, which is pretty to walk along. All in all this was great place to stay and really good value. I hope to be back! Thanks Karen!

  • Karen’s place is in a great location, right in the centre of town. It’s a cute annex and nice and secluded and quiet. We had our own private access and our own shower room. And she was super helpful throughout our stay! We’d definitely stay here again!

  • Clean, cosy, comfy, compact twin room in characterful town house, right in centre of the town's independent-shop area. Friendly, communicative, responsive hosts. Nice shower! Perfect for us - two guys on bikes doing a bit of touring round Suffolk - as we could store our bikes safely, shower and chill out after our ride, and then stroll out five minutes up the street to enjoy Bury St Edmunds' range of atmospheric cafes, bars and pubs. We enjoyed the free basic breakfast too!

  • Angela and Kevin are a wonderful host, perfect home which is close to Bury St. Edmunds. Due to unavoidable reason, I had to check in late in the night, which kind of put their weekend plan in jeopardy. Despite which she ensured I had comfortable stay at their place and moreover next day morning, they even offered continental breakfast too. And on top of that I was getting delayed for my appointment, Angela without any hesitation offered me to drop and ensured I reached the venue on time. There was no need for them to go the extra mile and drop me on a sunday morning, which was almost 4 miles away. Overall I had a memorable stay at St. Giles Cottage, their warm hospitality is definitely the highlight, which made this weekend always remain special in my memory. Thanks again Angela & Kevin.

  • Lovely hosts with a beautiful house to match. I would have no hesitation in coming back. A nice comfortable room with large modern bathroom and a lounge for relaxing if needed. Couldn’t fault a thing, highly recommended.

  • Alison and Katy were lovely welcoming warm hosts, we felt very comfortable staying in their modern contemporary clean home, lovely modern private bathroom with shampoo, shower gel, deep bath and walk in shower adjacent to the bedroom. Lounge downstairs with TV was an added bonus which we would of used if staying longer at the property. As we arrived late, a well lit pathway to the side door was practical and safe with off road parking on driveway. The bedroom has a comfortable mattress, nice linen, alarm clock, hanging rail for clothes, desk, long wall mirror (good for doing hair), plenty of sockets and a well stocked tea tray with ground coffee cafetiere and chocolate biscuits, nice thoughtful touches which made it a little extra special. Breakfast laid out in the kitchen for us to help ourselves completed the stay with cereals, fresh fruit, toast and jams, spreads, tea and coffee. We will try and come back when it is not raining ! so we can walk around the village of North Lopham and explore more of the lovely Norfolk surroundings and countryside .....

  • This is a beautiful home that you are made to feel very much a part of. You will have everything you could possibly need and be very well looked after throughout your stay. This little Shepherd hut is fully equipped to offer a base to explore the surrounding area. The village is quintessentially English ! Small church - Village green - a handful of houses - more horses than people - very quiet.
We can offer a spare bed for those travelling with children. it is a funky blow up mattress with bedding. Inflated in a minute !! Amazing to watch. Just let us know if you would like the extra bed. You get a hot tub tooooo .. for a small fee !
It is a small village and no pub or shop for 4 miles. please make sure to bring some provisions with you !
  • Lovely place to stay for a get away. Use of hot tub is a must. The hut has everything you need and more.

    Michelle2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect get away from our city jobs! The hut was cosy, excellently equipped, and exactly what we were hoping for.

    Sam2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay at piano forte, and will definitely be back! The hut is really well equipped, the hot tub is wonderful, and plenty of fun things to do and places to explore around Thetford and Banham. Great way to escape for a few days.

    Genevieve2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing, exactly how it was advertised, clean cosy and like a home from home! Loved every minute here and didnt want to leave. The shepherd's hut was well equipped and the decor was very modern and stylish! It was like being in your own private space and you would have never known there was anyone around! Felt very relaxed in the hot tub without being overlooked. I would 100% recommend adding the hot tub onto your stay. One thing I would say is that the Wifi doesnt reach inside of the shepherd's hut but it does while in garden area, however this didnt affect our stay. I always had quick responses from the host whenever i had a question to ask. I will be recommending Piano Forte to everyone and will be returning.

    Gemma2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely little cabin. My girlfriend and I enjoyed celebrating our anniversary at Piano Forté. Great hot tub, quiet, peaceful, clean, private and cosy. Highly recommend it!

    Sam2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Very romantic little spot. Although there are two other properties on the site Piano Forte was very private and exclusive. We felt very comfortable and hidden away-which was lovely. Hot tub is perfect and very clean! The seating areas and ‘hut’ outside are a lovely touch too. We couldn’t get the WiFi to connect inside the cabin at all unfortunately, however 4G (provider EE) worked fine throughout the cabin, and WiFi worked OK outside in certain spots. Unless your avid walkers you definitely need a car/taxis to get around. Closet town was around a 5/10 minute drive but very easy to get to. We were provided with a bottle of wine in the cabin on arrival which was a very kind extra touch! It’s a small cosy space which we throughly enjoyed.

    Summer2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • It was the perfect retreat for a relaxing few days away! Definitely book the hot tub too! Perfect beyond belief xx

We are close to Bury St Edmunds and an ideal semi-rural base for exploring East Anglia and the cities of Norwich and Cambridge. Our comfortable and quiet cottage annexe provides a well-equipped place to stay for a self-catering short break or longer, with wi-fi included. The comfortable sitting room looks out onto the private garden where there is a small patio containing outdoor chairs and table. The ensuite bedroom (double-bed) has a vaulted ceiling and ample storage.
An attractive conservatory is where you will find the comfortable living room, with 2-seater settee, coffee table and lamp. The TV and radio is here also. The bedroom has a high ceiling with exposed beams, and contains a free-standing wardrobe plus a large built-in cupboard which combined have plenty of space for clothing and baggage. The en-suite bathroom has a pedestal wash-basin, toilet and modern shower. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering and includes dining table and two dining chairs.
We are a short drive from the centre of Stanton village, which can be walked in about 20 minutes. In the village centre you will find a village pub, a convenience store, bakers and a post-office. On the other side of the village on the Barningham road there is an excellent farm-shop at Hillcrest Nurseries, with deli counter and cafe.
  • A delightful and secluded cottage hideaway. Ian and Debbie were delightful hosts. Communication was superb. Many thoughtful touches which Debbie provided, clearly demonstrating the qualities of a Super Host. Highly recommend.

    Allan2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We were given very clear directions to the accommodation, and information about the area, shops, local places to eat, etc. The annexe feels like a cottage, self contained, everything you need was provided, it was sparkling clean, and lovely and warm when we arrived on a wet dismal December evening. There were fresh flowers in the bedroom, and a welcome pack with locally produced fruit juices and chocolates. Also a lovely patio area outside which would be a good place for breakfast in warm weather. Thank you Debbie.

    Angela2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great space with everything you could possibly need in the annex. Quiet & peaceful area ..... we slept well every night. We had little or no service on our mobiles but that was a nice change to be uncontactable ! But if you rely on yours you may want to check with Ian & Debbie which service providers are better.

    Debra2019-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • Debbie and Ian were absolutely lovely and so was the place! The space was really well used and the garden setting was gorgeous. Amenities were great too! We had more than enough kitchen supplies and the internet was decent enough to watch Netflix too. If we were really being picky then the lack of soap in the shower or the jittery TV was unexpected but we never addressed this so it's unfair to hold that out on its own. It was a mobile phone black spot too so I found that amazing as I got to switch off from the world when I wanted. Absolutely recommend this spot and most certainly aim to come back soon

    Ehab2019-11-03T00:00:00Z

Welcoming basic accommodation within walking distance of Bury St Edmunds town centre (about 20 minutes) and train station (about 10 minutes). Plenty of parking, pub that does food, 24 hour petrol station/mini shop and supermarkets nearby. Happy to advise on places to visit, and chat if that's what you want and I'm around.
Bury St Edmunds is a lovely historic town, with plenty to do and see. The Abbey Gardens are stunning, there is a good market twice a week, and some interesting historic buildings. Good range of shops, both independent and chain, and variety of eating places. Easy access to Cambridge and London.

  • Jen has been a wonderful host who is very warm and welcoming. She has been very attentive to any of my needs and I had an absolutely wonderful time staying there. Although regrettably only for one night. If I am at that area again I would most definitely stay with her again.

    Irena2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Greeted with a warm welcome, Jen showed me to my room (which looks even better and spacious in person). The room was clean, a kettle is placed in the corner with choices of hot beverages. You can even use the kitchen facilities, cooked my dinner and had a lovely chat with Jen and her friend. Good company! And I travel to university which is convenient for me as the accommodation is closer to the train station. Will definitely visit Jen again.

    Criszel2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, super comfy bed and warm! Jen is very welcoming and relaxed so I didn't feel in the way and I could come and go as I pleased (which really suited me as I was working). Breakfast was great and all the various hot chocolates and teas in the room were a great touch. Also Lynne who is staying there temporarily in another room is really friendly and great company. Set in the bountiful countryside on the Suffolk/Norfolk border, there is ample opportunity for wonderful walks straight from the door and table tennis awaits those who want a little fun.
  • Nice place. Both owners are very welcoming and there are lots of lovely personal touches. Be aware that this house is very hard to find in the dark, due to the nature of the location.

Bridewell Cottage sleeps 4 people and is located in the very heart of Bury St Edmunds Suffolk. This enchanting spot is home to the famous Abbey Gardens, Cathedral and buzzing market. Surrounded by traditional pubs, fabulous restaurants, independent shops, it is a truly captivating place to explore. All guests will receive a welcome hamper which will include tea, coffee, crumpets, milk, port and gin and tonics. Hope you enjoy :-) Parking is available for £10 a day a few minutes walk away.
Guests have access to the whole property and a sunny charming courtyard garden. I keep the cellar locked for my own cleaning products. There are two out buildings in the garden. One holds the general waste and recycling bins and the other is used for my personal DIY storage. I would recommend keeping children and infants out of both the out buildings.
The cottage is set in the sought after area of the medieval grid. Close by you have the beautiful Abbey Gardens and Cathedral. Around the corner you have the award winning restaurant Maison Bleu. I highly recommend you book in advance. If your looking to be in the central hub of Bury St Edmunds look no further.

Our home is set in eight acres of extensive gardens and paddocks. We are hidden away in the village of Stanton, conveniently just 3 minutes walk from the local pub and shops and 20 minutes drive from Bury St Edmunds. We offer disabled friendly (wheelchair) access throughout, and can accommodate well behaved dogs, children, bigger parties (2 other rooms available with private use shared bathroom), and even horses. We were featured on BBC1 programme "I Escaped To The Country" in January 2018.
If there are more than 2 people in your party please ask if we can accommodate them as we have additional rooms available, subject to specific arrangements and an additional charge. Whilst we offer a private living area to guests if required, and we respect your space, we really like meeting new people and we are gregarious, so you are quite likely to be invited into our own living areas.
Stanton is a well served village with a Pub ("The Cock" which is open, and serving food all but Mondays), a corner shop, Post Office, fish & chip shop and bakers just a couple of minutes walk away. A short distance away is the Hillcrest Garden Centre with coffee shop and farm / delicatessen foods for sale. Plus a mile down the road you will find Wyken Vinyard. It has a lovely country shop and the Leaping Hare restaurant is reputedly one of the best in East Anglia.
  • Mick and Sue made us so welcome. The house grounds abd cleaniness was first class. We so enjoyed our stay and we will be back with out dogs who were also made so welcome.

  • Mick and Sue are great hosts. We really enjoyed staying with them. The room is lovely, bright and very comfortable. Breakfast was a great - try the homemade jam - with a beautiful outlook. They clearly enjoy hosting and if you have the time, spend some time talking to them about their home and extraordinary lives - they have some great stories. The flag is a great touch, and adds to the warm welcome.

The room was spacious and clean with a very comfortable bed . On a Saturday night , Sue very kindly drove us to a local restaurant and arranged a taxi firm for our return journey . We had a lovely breakfast the next morning with a view across the grounds and paddocks . Overall we had a really relaxing and peaceful stay with a extremely hospitable couple . Many thanks to you both. Ean and Maria

  • The place is really well set up. Recommended. An annex to a modern house on a recently built estate just outside central Bury St Edmunds. Spotless, looks like very recently decorated, plenty of space and nice touches like microwave, fresh milk, breakfast things. Completely self contained and private. I had a comfortable night's sleep and will book again if I need to stay over in Bury. Same price as Dragonfly hotel but a much nicer experience.

    Paul2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • I had to quickly book accommodation from outside the UK as my father was admitted to the local hospital as an emergency. It's the first time that I've used Air b&b. The Nest Box was very cozy and comfortable and Amanda was helpful, quickly answering any questions I had .

A pretty Victorian cottage with wood burning stove and many original features. Placed well away from the hustle and bustle, the cottage serves as a peaceful rural retreat, just twenty minute's drive from Bury St Edmunds and 4 miles from the Suffolk/Norfolk border, making it a perfect touring base. Luxurious Egyptian cotton bedding, feather pillows & duvets and white Turkish cotton towels are provided.
Built in 1861 this former estate worker's cottage enjoys a tranquil rural location and there are lawned gardens with a small pond to the front (unfenced so small children need to be supervised) and a private courtyard area with seating at the rear of the property. The garden is visited by a wide variety of birds such as robins, greenfinches, collared doves, long tailed tits, goldfinches to name but a few. The shaker-style kitchen with breakfast bar (seats 4 people) includes: Electric oven Microwave Brita filter kettle Toaster Fridge freezer Washing machine Tumble dryer The cosy sitting room has a wood burner (logs are provided), 42" flat screen TV and DVD player. There is a selection of children's DVDs. The shingled courtyard area with seating at the rear of the property is perfect for alfresco dining.
Bowbeck is a charming little hamlet which lies within the parish of Bardwell (shortlisted for 2017 Village of the Year). The Royal George pub in Barningham and Six Bells pub in Bardwell are merely a mile and a half away and the nearest shops are SPAR in Barningham which sells freshly baked bread and Hillcrest Farm Shop in Stanton (3 miles). Golfing, horse riding, segway and kayaking are a short drive away. The area offers great opportunities for walkers with the Peddar's Way and Icknield Way just 4 miles down the road at the Suffolk/Norfolk border. Food at the Norton Dog pub is highly recommended (popular so booking is advisable).
  • Ellen's place was beyond our expectations. The place is so cosy we had an amazing chilled weekend away and the fire made it extra comfortable. Ellen added lots of thoughtful touches and communication was quick and efficient. 100% recommended! Thank you very much Ellen!

    Diana2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Ellen's cottage is just as described, large enough but also cosy. We really appreciated the thoughtful touches of fresh milk and biscuits for that much needed cuppa on arrival. You wont be disappointed with the characterful charm and position of the cottage

    Lesley2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage in a very rural location . The garden is full of birds visiting the feeders in the garden. Very well equipped kitchen and nice to have hand wash, good quality towels and cosy duvet. Interesting places to visit a short drive away, we especially recommend Wyken vineyard shop and restaurant.

    Angela2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Ellen’s place is a quiet and lovely cottage. It has all that was needed for short or long stays. Lots of information and nice little touches. Ideal location to stay and enjoy the area.

    Chloe2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is probably my favourite Air b&b so far. Suffolk is a much under-rated County for walking and days out. We loved the house and the surrounding countryside. I cannot find anything negative to say, apart from the landlady in the Royal George is in the wrong business, she has no social skills. I am sure we will be back if we are welcome. Thank you and Happy New Year.

My place is in the heart of rural Suffolk, close to good London / Cambridge rail links and within a 20 min drive from historic Bury St Edmunds with its famous Abbey gardens and recently restored cathedral. You’ll love my place due to its 'get away from it all' location, a base from where you can cycle quiet country roads, explore our beautiful Suffolk villages or maybe relax in one of our good local pubs. Tea / coffee and various breakfast items are provided along with cooking facilities.
The Annexe, although joined to our property is private with its own entrance and patio area, it has a fully equipped kitchen including dishwasher, fridge, oven and hob. The bed is a large double that folds out from a corner sofa in the spacious living area that includes an ensuite with shower cubicle. We also have free wifi.

    Ron2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing few days at The Lodge. Firstly, our hosts: Louise and Martin. What a lovely couple. Nothing was too much trouble. They could not do enough for us. It is clearly really important to them both that their guests have a great experience; from giving us local knowledge about parking, showing us around, and sharing where to eat - they really could not do enough for us. Thank you Louise and Martin. You made our stay that extra bit special. You left us some amazing extras that show you are hosts that clearly go above and beyond. You thought of every little extra that might be needed and it was there! Thank you. Regarding the property, if we could give 6 stars we would. It was perfectly clean and so beautiful. It was stylish, cosy and quiet. It was everything we could need and more! We will be back xx. The only issue we have is that we think it will be impossible to beat the standard and experience given by our hosts. What a great couple of days. Thank you. X

  • A beautifully and tastefully decorated little hideaway. Perfect for us as a one night stop-over - we slept really well and felt fully recharged for continuing our trip. Great value for money compared with similar places that we’ve stayed.

You can also be immersed in beautiful Suffolk countryside a short walk from your accommodation, one of our favourite country walks is along the River Gipping to Needham Market.
  • A lovely one night stopover (sadly only for business), but Hermione couldn't have been any more welcoming and helpful. The annexe is well-eqipped and great value for such a central location.

  • You will enjoy the large space and great kitchen complete with a washer. It definitely has a homey feel. The location is ideal if you travel by train. There are several local pubs. A short walk to Asdas Grocery Store. They close early but there's a corner store close by. The host is great and will help when needed.

  • I had a brilliant couple of days staying in Hermione's Annex, I was comfy, cosy and warm. A nice peaceful place but very close to the town and perfect for travelling by train.

  • I’ve reviewed it ‘same as I expected’ BUT this is hugely positive as this was the 2nd time my parents had stayed - therefore there was a level of expectation which was met. They’ve already booked again...

Modern barn conversion in grade 2 listed building. Occupies one corner of a large gated, enclosed courtyard garden at Lackford Lakes Barns. We are located within The Lackford Lakes Nature Reserve. Well Cottage has a large self contained garden at the back which is for the exclusive use of Well Cottage.
Situated in Lackford Lakes Nature reserve this grade 2 listed barn conversion has all the advantages of a modern conversion and character of the old. Only 5 miles from historic Bury St Edmunds we are also close to Newmarket, Cambridge and the Suffolk coast.
We are surrounded by Lackford Lakes Nature reserve but only 5 miles from historic Bury St Edmunds where there’s lots to see an do. Market day is Saturday and Wednesday. Bury has a Georgian theatre, cathedral and a brewery which are all worth a visit.
  • An idyllic, off-the-beaten-path, retreat smack in the middle of the Suffolk countryside made for a relaxing vacation for our family. There was activities aplenty in the area, from the reserve with its bird watching walks, to the beaches along the coastline, and the lovely villages dotting the neighbouring regions. We'll be sure to return...

  • An excellent hideaway in the heart of nature. The place was clean, warm and well stocked with equipment for cooking. Lackford Lakes is a real gem. I would thoroughly recommend!

  • Well cottage was a beautiful place to escape to and enjoy the peaceful Suffolk countryside. The barn was much more spacious than I had anticipated and was excellently furnished with everything we could possibly need. The underfloor heating kept us lovely and warm even on a rainy day! The location is so peaceful and private but also fantastic for young children as it is just a quick walk down the driveway to get to Lackford Lakes (splashing in puddles along the way!) where we spent many an hour simply exploring the woodlands (including the mud kitchen and playing on the wooden climbing area) and warming up in the cafe afterwards. My daughters (4&2) also loved visiting the Anglo Saxon village (West Stow) for the morning - only a 5 minute drive up the road and v cheap - and Undley farm for Halloween festivities. The games room was a fantastic bonus to fill a rainy hour and the laundry room meant we came home with minimal jobs to do upon our return! We will definitely consider returning to Lackford Lakes Barns when visiting my grandmother who lives in Bury again. Thank you for a lovely half term week.
