Places to stay in Isle of Harris
Min. 7 nights stay May-Aug. Our traditional cottage is one of the oldest inhabited buildings in Tarbert. It sleeps 4 people in 2 bedrooms (1 double, 1 twin) with a camp bed available upon request. We have a shower room, well-equipped kitchen, picnic area, lounge, parking, and of course free WiFi! Located in West Tarbert, minutes walk from ferry so great for those without a car. Very handy for sports centre, play area, village shops and amenities, public transport etc.
2 bed cottage in West Tarbert close to ferry and local village amenities. Free WiFi. Facilities in the cottage include: Living Room: Wood burning stove, two large comfy sofas, coffee table, bluetooth speaker, selection of books and games, x-box (serves as DVD player too) and TV with Netflix. Kitchen: fridge freezer, double oven with grill, toaster, microwave, kettle, nespresso coffee maker, usual pots and pans, cutlery and crockery. Extendable dining table Shower Room: Shower room. Has small sink with under sink storage, toilet and electric shower. Towels provided. Bedrooms. Bed 1: room with double bed, chest of drawers, wardrobe bedside tables and bedside lights. linen provided Bed 2: Twin bedded room with chest of drawers, clothes rail and bedside cabinets. Linen provided. Stick on blackout blinds also provided Outside. There is an old storage porch at the front of the house (we hope to rebuild as a larger porch with sitting area in late 2020!) Old, but still suitable for hanging your coats and shoes. there is a whirligig to the side of the property. There is a picnic area at the bottom of the garden (new 2019) as well. There is a children’s play area opposite the end of the garden and a small soft play area only a few doors along the road towards the village. For the grownups, another few steps will take you to the village where a variety of watering holes can be found, the closest of which is the excellent whisky bar in the Harris Hotel. Parking is available in the gravel area at the front of the house. There are electrical vehicle charging points in the village, though we don’t have one at the house-yet!
The cottage is ideally situated for local amenities, walking distance from Tarbert and the ferry terminal. Leisure centre is in the school just across the way, and Tarbert's amenities include a garage, range of bars and hotels (Hotel Hebrides' Mote Bar and Harris Hotel often have live music events), day to day grocery, tweed shop, Essence of Harris candle, soap and gift outlet, ferry terminal, tea room, post office, bus station, soft play, playpark, leisure centre and distillery are only a short walk away. Lewis and Harris occupy the same landmass, so it is possible to drive to Stornoway (37 miles) where a wide range of facilities, including two supermarkets for the 'big shop' are to be found. There is also an arts centre with cinema, larger soft play centre, garden centre, and a considerable variety of places to eat. Stornoway provides another ferry option too, via Ullapool. Things to visit on both Islands include Rodel Church, the beaches ( obviously!), Callanish Stones and Dun Carloway (undergoing conservation 2019). There are distilleries in Tarbert itself (offering excellent gin, as well as producing whisky for future sale) which does regular tours, and another at Abhainn Dearg, near Uig, Lewis. Phone ahead for appointment to visit. Tweed is a major local industry, and we have an excellent shop in Tarbert. There are other producers throughout the islands and it is often possible to see weaving taking place by arrangement. We have regular craft fayres in the village throughout the season, and Tarbert and the immediate area has a number of art, photography, craft, and glass producers that are well worth a visit. I’m more than happy to help you make arrangements to visit studios etc if this is of interest. Eating and drinking opportunities are ever increasing, and the standard is very high. As well as the excellent offer in Tarbert itself, there are some wonderful cafes and restaurants throughout the isles. We love the North Harbour Bistro (Scalpay) for special occasions, though advance booking is recommended. There is also a cafe there, as well as the excellent Temple Cafe (open Sundays) at Northton. Other favourite stops for us are Talla na Mara, which is home to the Machair kitchen restaurant (stunning views), and a number of local producers, including ‘Flavour’ chocolatier who sells ice creams that my own child begs for from the minute we get off the ferry! Even our snack vans are a cut above the usual. There’s a great van in the village beside AD’s shop run by our friends Tinnie and Russell, Taste and Sea on the road to Stornoway, and Blas bhon Iar at Horgabost beach, as well as a seafood shack at Rodel and a chippie in Tarbert on Main Street. Some of these take orders in advance, and Hotel Hebrides also offers takeaway. If you can stretch to it, consider pushing the boat out (geddit?) taking a sea trip to St Kilda. Kilda cruises have an office in Tarbert and Sea Harris is online and run by a friend of ours who sometimes offers good last minute discounts. Booking in advance advised and bookings are weather dependent. Shorter trips to the Shiants etc are also available. Various companies run scenic tours and adventure type activities, again I am very happy to help arrange this.
  • Lovely cottage, great location, comfy beds, clean, homely.

  • Great host, nice cottage in good location in Tarbert. Very nice touches and very helpful host

    Frances2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is slightly outside Tarbert on the road to Stornaway so a great location. Well equipped, good parking and fast response to requests prior to arrival. It was a great experience and one I would happily repeat. The only downside was missing the whale on the last day but there’s always next year!

    Si2019-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Kelpie cottage is perfectly located to explore the islands. It’s just 25 minutes to the absolutely stunning Luskentyre beach and only three minutes from the ferry, meaning those needing to catch the very early boat can do so with ease. The cottage itself is very cosy and has everything you need, including the all-important Nespresso machine! Highly recommended.

  • Brilliant place for visiting Harris. Walking distance from practically everything in Tarbert and a lovely home to spend time in.

  • Kelpie Cottage is just lovely and perfectly located. Emma is a great host, and quick to respond with any questions. Would thoroughly recommend.

  • We spent a week on this wonderful island of Harris in this lovely cottage. Ideally located to visit both Harris and Lewis, we particularly appreciated its location. Both Tarbet hotels offer delicious menus and we enjoyed the typical whiskey bar of one of the two located 5 minutes walk from the rental. The arrival with a key box is very convenient. The nice basket of welcome that we found on our arrival and very appreciable. We had no worries, everything is clean and the beds are very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped and although the bathroom is a little small there is everything you need. We also appreciated the electric heaters for drying clothes and shoes after rainy rides. I highly recommend this rental that combines charm, comfort and functionality. And we hope to have the opportunity to come back to continue to discover the wonders of the Hebrides ...

Self-catering 1850s blackhouse set in the North Harris hills. Lovely remote area close to Loch Seaforth on a working croft with hens at your door and eagles in the sky! Kitchen/sitting room, one double bedroom and shower room. All linen, towels, electricity and gas for cooking is provided. Eggs from the hens will be in the cottage for you and more can be bought if wanted. Peace and quiet plus walking tracks out the hills from the door.
An ideal self-catering getaway to relax and enjoy the islands of Lewis and Harris. All amenities are at the cottage except WiFi but there is limited Vodafone access. Being a traditional, original Blackhouse type building, the accommodation is compact and can only sleep two people in the double bedroom. Heating at present is by electric heaters and a log-effect electric fire.
The hills in this area are known as the most likely place you will see Golden Eagles and Sea Eagles. Indeed, during the summer months, the RSPB in conjunction with the North Harris Trust, conduct an Eagle Walk every Wednesday morning from the car park at Bowglass. If you do not want to cook your own meal, the Loch Erisort Inn, 10 miles north from Bowglass, has excellent home-cooked food including local seafood. The shores of Loch Seaforth are just a walk away across the fields where mussels can be picked from the rocks at low tide.
  • We loved this cosy little blackhouse which despite being small has everything you need. Harris is like another world and in the blackhouse you really feel part of it. It is just off the main Stornoway to Tarbet road which helps with getting around but is still in a remote location. The lack of mobile signal or WiFi further enhances the feeling of being away from it all.

  • We love staying at Miranda’s cottage. The place is in a lovely and very convenient location and easy to get to as well. The cottage has everything that you can possibly need! The hens and sheep are around and you can enjoy tranquility and lovely loch views. There few good hill walks not far away and drive to Tarbert is not long. You have a take away van with great selection and quality food about 10 minutes walking from the cottage. Would be recommending Miranda’s place to family and friends as well. Thanks for having us!

  • Lovely house. Very comfortable. Perfectly located in the border of Lewis and Harris. Beautiful garden. Friendly chickens.

    Rebecca2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Living in an original Blackhouse is definitely the way to visit these beautiful islands.

    Glenda2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Really cosy cottage, perfect size for two. Miranda left us some eggs from the chickens just outside on arrival, and popped over to make sure we were OK on the evening we arrived. We had a great stay

    Georgina2019-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great cottage to explore the Harris hills and beaches. Surrounded by animals and a great welcome from the chickens!

  • The Blackhouse is a great central location for exploring both Harris and Lewis. Just off the main road, it is quiet and private with a lovely garden and views over Loch Seaforth. The Blackhouse is cosy and well equipped, and Miranda is a very friendly host whose hens supply delicious eggs. We had a great few days here - thank you Miranda!

It is Ideally placed to explore all the beaches and scenery that Harris and Lewis has to offer and then return home to relax with a glass. This apartment is excellent for disabled travellers.
Tarbert is a fantastic seaside village with all amenities on your doorstep. It has as its centre piece the famous harris gin distillery with its visitor centre and cafe. The Tourist hub is the centrall prime location in harris to explore the Hebrides.
  • What a gem! Malcolm was very responsive to messages and very helpful. The apartment looked lovely from the description, but was even more of a beauty to stay in, our only regret was that we hadn't booked for longer. Cosy and characterful, yet with more than enough space for two, a well equipped kitchen and very comfy. Can't wait to return!

    Katharine2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had another wonderful stay at Malcom’s place. When we stayed in Easter last year, my boyfriend proposed and this time we were visiting for our wedding meal menu tasting and for my hair trial. It was so lovely to be welcomed with the usual cereal, milk, fruit, flowers etc. but an added touch of a box of chocolates and a ‘welcome back’ note was just lovely. We know we’ll be back. Kirsty and Ross xox

    Kirsty2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was well equipped, very clean and in a fab location. A perfect studio for singles or couples. I would definitely stay again, thanks Malcolm and Rhoda

  • Excellent location, very clean & tidy and good value. I would have no hesitation in recommending this to anyone.

  • We loved our stay at Malcolms place. 10/10 for location - central Tarbert just opposite the gin distillery and 1min to the Ferry. A few minutes from a few little shops, bank, eating places so ideal base for exploring Harris. Great value for money, bigger than we expected. Spotlessly clean. Lovely little touches of breakfast stuff, fresh flowers and chocolates. Easy check-in and private parking outside front door.

    Claire2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Again another perfect visit. Cozy wee apartment with nice finishing touches by Malcolm. Well stocked fridge, biccies and chocolates. Great location for touring Harris and Lewis and only a stones through from the ferry, although this time we came in from Stornoway as route from home proved much more straightforward. But still arrived within an hour from the ferry in Stornoway.

A conversion of one of the few surviving Black Houses built by the last family to leave St. Kilda. Steeped in history and natural beauty the cottage is ideal for beach lovers, walkers, cyclists, bird watchers, fishermen and families looking for the perfect relaxing holiday.
Atmospheric cottage to appreciate the peace and tranquility of the islands with no wifi tv or phone.
Fabulous views across Ardhasaig bay towards the Clisham which is the highest mountain on Harris.
  • Great location on Harris in Ardhaisaig. Very cozy, charming place to stay no matter the weather. We enjoyed our time here and loved having a fireplace.

    Mary2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fantastic place to stay in The Western Isles. It has a historic feel to it being an updated version of one of the old black houses which puts you in immediate touch with the rich and accessible heritage of these amazing islands. The location is quite perfect between the rugged, rocky hills and pristine beaches of Harris and perhaps the better known locations of Lewis to the north. The house has a lovely little fireplace, a cosy living room, a very well equipped kitchen and an amazing collection of books related to the islands. The good weather provided us the opportunity for long walks and discovering the wonderful places on offer, but equally, the compulsory “bad” weather gave us the chance to relax and decompress in a calm, peaceful (TV and internet free) environment. Christian is a great host - very responsive and welcoming. All in all, a highly recommended place to visit Harris and Lewis.

    Andrew2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Very comfortable, thoughtfully furnished house with loads of character; well situated for exploring Lewis and Harris. We enjoyed walking, beach combing, 'sea watching' (coast near Scalpay Lighthouse a favourite), sightseeing and even a swim!

    Sophieke2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • The Old Croft house is in a brilliant location in Ardhaisaig to see the whole island (and Christian sends great instructions to get you there). The house is lovely and filled with games and books to wile away evenings and any rainy days. The house is a converted traditional blackhouse, which is brilliant to be in.

    Jonathan2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a great week at the Croft House. Beautiful place with a good library, a good chimney... everything you need to go and discover this magical island.

    Maud2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful relaxing week stay - no internet or tv which really makes for a relaxing holiday ( internet connection is not reliable and sometimes not available on Harris so make sure you have mobile data ) beautiful finishing touches and amazingly clean

    Shelagh2019-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, well-loved cottage with history. It’s so comfortable to come back to after a day in the islands. Thank you!

    Katherine2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • We couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. The Old Croft House is an incredibly atmospheric and wonderfully located croft, perfectly placed to explore both Harris and Lewis. Very comfortable - and with only sheep for neighbours a quiet and restful haven from a more frantic world. Christian was an excellent, communicative host. Highly recommended and we're already longing to be back! Many thanks for a memorable holiday and our début in the Hebrides!

The Wee Wooden Yurt at Caolas Gallery is a unique amazing space, a green roofed, original wooden round house with picture windows giving an uninterrupted view of the sea across to the Isle of Scalpay and South East Harris. Features include a central dome roof window, separate shower room, a kitchen, comfortable chairs and wood burning stove, and of course a double bed. The property enjoys a southerly aspect with masses of natural light. Is well insulated, warm and cosy
The property is just 5 miles from the village and ferry port of Tarbert with shops, restaurants, Dr's surgery etc. There are many lovely walks in the area and the Isle of Scalpay with locally renowned seafood bistro, and walk to the lighthouse just across the bridge. The property is ideal for a longer stay exploring the rest of Harris or a night or two of unique living before boarding the ferry. The yurt is sited next to my Gallery and Tea Room, which is open during the week from 10.30am - 17.30
The Wee Wooden Yurt is in the centre of the tiny village of Caolas Scalpaigh on the coast looking out across the little islands to The Isle of Scalpay and down the East Coast of the Isle of Harris to the mountain Rhoineabhal. We are just 5 miles from the ferry port and larger village of Tarbert with shops, restaurants, take away, and retail outlets. The Isle of Scalpay is just over the bridge with a locally renowned seafood Bistro.
  • A fabulous little place to recharge and watch the changing skies through the large windows next to the cosy wood burner.

    Louise2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great location and great place to stay. Would highly recommend. Stefan was very friendly and helpful.

    Gordon2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • What a place! My girlfriend and I had a beautiful couple of days in the yurt - perfect for a short stay. Stunning views, great place to watch the islands go from day to night. Could spend all day there - cosy and warm!

    Tom2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • This is our second time at this particular location. The pictures can’t do it justice. It’s cosy and perfect. Lovely view to stare at with a wee wood fire at your feet.

    Keith2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The yurt was unlike anywhere I have ever stayed before. We were worried about being cold but the fire kept us warm all night. The view was stunning and the yurt was so cosy. Would definitely recommend.

    James2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful wee space to stay. Thoughtfully furnished and equipped. Really cosy and relaxing. Will be back highly recommended.

    Ruth2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • If you want to waken up to an amazing view and wind down in the evenings to a beautiful sun set, this is your place. The yurt is a high standard of ‘glamping’ (I’ve stayed in far worse hotels) with a comfortable bed, great shower, a range of cooking utilities. It’s surprisingly spacious. It’s clean, dry and super cozy when you get the fire on. A hidden little gem that I’d most definitely return to. It was an ideal island getaway.

    Leah2020-02-08T00:00:00Z

The deck adds a new outdoor-living facility . In airbnb tradition of guest interaction, the space is sensitively but not intrusively personalized as our own winter quarters, so you will know a little of us from afar...
Harris is famous for its spectacular West coast dunes and beaches (20 mins drive) and rocky secluded coastal inlets to the east where we are.
  • Absolutely amazing home with a beautiful view and everything we needed for a cosy and peaceful off-season getaway. Thank you! Sophia and Rupert :)

    Sophia2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • I felt at home straight away! Super cosy, original, spacious cottage. Great communication from the host. Had a brilliant stay. Thank you. My faith in Airbnb has also been restored.

  • A lovely property in a great location. Situated in a remote spot on Isle of Harris with a view of sea loch. The property is open plan, nice for a relaxing holiday. Nicely decorated with a variety of interesting decorations and plenty of appliances and utensils for self catering. You can drive to many nice locations on Harris or just stay at the location and relax in the hot tub.

    Kevin2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a gloriously situated, well equipped, nice and neat place to stay in tye beautiful Isle of Harris. It was perfect for our purposes, enjoying the area and have a nice place to come back to. Pictures cannot possibly do this place justice, it is super nice. It actually is a lot roomier than we had expected!

    Lex2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful accommodation in a beautiful spot on Harris. Easy to access the main sites of the island (both Harris and Lewis) whilst also enjoying a tranquil setting. Even the road to the house has lovely views. The house itself has everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. It is more roomy than the pictures suggest. We would definitely recommend paying extra for the hot tub. There were also nice touches such as fresh robes in the bathroom and hotel style toiletries. Communication was also very good with Tony and Eva. Highly recommend staying here and we hope to return again in the future. Xoxo

    Daniel2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second visit to Anthony and Eva's place. I came back for the comfortable space and the beautiful location. This time, in the space of ten minutes, I saw an otter swimming in the bay from the from the French Windows, and then, as I was boiling a kettle, I saw a very large bird of prey. It could have been an eagle of a buzzard. I don't care. It was beautiful. This was about 7.00am so it pays to get up early. There is a good sound system and plenty of CDs to choose from. Also a good library. You won't get bored!

    Edward2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • A true stylish gem with fab a fab view. Lovely walks in the most extraordinary and beautiful place we have visited in the UK

Alasdair's home, Aird Druim an Tolla, is located on the east coast of Harris in a secluded location. It is an ideal place to 'escape' from the pressures of modern urban living.
Alasdair's Siberian larch clad home has a twin bedroom with its adjacent toilet /shower room available only for guests.
Alasdair's 'simple' home is in a remote, secluded location with ever-changing views over the Minch to the Isle of Skye and the Scottish mainland and inland to the hills and moorlands of south Harris.
  • If you fancy sitting on the edge of the rocky hills overlooking the sea with a warm cuppa and a fiery hot peat fire. Well then look no further. Add to this lovely conversation, and well, my only regret is we couldn't stay longer.

    Lyndsey2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Alasdair is a fabulous host and has a lovely house. We would totally recommend this Airbnb to everyone!

    Karen2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Terrific home, so much to see and do and read and enjoy. Alasdair's knowledge of geography, geology, history and building is remarkable. It was a joy to spend days and nights there, already longing to return.

    Lindy2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Forget the amazing home with incredible views in a stunning remote location! It was Alasdair that truly made our one night stay a memorable one - my favorite Airbnb experience to date. To start with, Alasdair accommodated our request for early checkin. After settling into our room Alasdair took us on a short hike around his property, showed us how he dyes wool using lichengathered from his property, and pretty much entertained us all afternoon. We even shared a home cooked meal together- I cooked up the main meal and Alasdair whipped up dessert for us. The next morning, Alasdair treated us to his home made croissants for breakfast along with eggs, cereal, juice, tea, coffee etc. It was amazing! Alasdair is an exceptional host all around and I would highly recommend a stay with him!

    Julee2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Best part of our Scottish road trip by far! Definitely book an extra day, we wish we had! Stunning location, comfy home, and Alasdair is a fantastic host who took us on a walk and made us a lovely evening meal, Harris is a stunning island we will be back!

    Louise2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Alasdair's place offers stunning views of the rugged shores for which Harris is famous. Friendly and hospitable, Alasdair provides a delicious homemade breakfast and he is happy to share all the local information you'll need for a perfect holiday.

    Michelle2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • If anyone deserves the term “superhost” it’s Alasdair. His laid back, kind and warm manner made our stay at Aird Druim An Tolla extra special. The view from his house is spectacular in all weathers. Alasdair made fresh delicious breakfast each morning and shared local tips and knowledge with us. We will definitely be back!

    Rachel2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed with Alasdair and Ross for two nights recently. Alasdair was a fantastic host, going out of his way to answer questions about the people and history of the area. His breakfast meals where prepared fresh every morning from his well stocked larder and fresh farm eggs from his chickens on site. Views were incredible and his location is very quiet. Ross, the four y/o Border Collie was fantastic and our best friend while we were in his castle. We really enjoyed our time visiting Alasdair's and Ross's warm home. Everything was perfect.

Sleeps 4 adults in one double and a twin room, with 2 childrens beds and a further sofa bed downstairs if needed.
The house is our own family holiday home so it is furnished as such. It has a friendly family atmosphere with every possible utility you might expect of a family home. It is centrally heated and has a Rayburn stove and a woodburner too. There is a full bathroom with Roll Top bath and power shower. We also have a Piano, Guitars and and easel for the creative.
Our neighbourhood is unique as we are at the end of a small road away from the main roads and yet next to one of the few working harbours in South Harris so the boats can be seen coming to a fro each day. We are within 10 minutes of the west coast beaches while also being situated within the beautiful bays area of the east coast and only 10 minutes from Tarbert for local amenities.
  • Great Accommodation

  • The crofthouse really is a very special place - a stunning house in a beautiful part of Harris. The scenery is spectacular, like mini fjords set in a rocky moonscape with incredible white, sandy beaches just down the road. Jonny has done up the house to a very high standard with lots of thoughtful touches - great record collection and library, plus guitars and a piano. Kitchen is fully equipped to cook the abundant seafood available to buy all over the island. After 2 weeks me and my husband (and dog) feel entirely rejuvenated!

    Emily2019-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our week in the crofthouse, such a peaceful spot but still good access for Tarbert and heading north and west for beaches and hills. Hushinish, Bosta and seafood on Scalpay were highlights! The downstairs living space in the cottage is fab and ideal for families, and we really appreciated having the enclosed garden for our dogs. Jonny was a great host and always easy to get in touch with. Thank you!

    Martin2019-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • Jonny’s place is great value for money, beautiful location, well equipped with many thoughtful touches. We really enjoyed our stay on the Isle of Harris. Perfect

    Julie2019-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • The Crofthouse suited our family needs beautifully. The open plan space downstairs allowed us all to be together in the evenings in comfort and style after a day’s adventures. The bedrooms were very generous and beautifully decorated. The location was very peaceful and also a great starting point for walks if you don’t want to get into your car that day. We hope to return to Harris soon and would not look to any property but this one.

    Grace2019-04-06T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved staying at the Croft House - it is such a beautiful place and we were so glad we booked. The house is stylish, comfortable and really relaxing. Loved spending the evenings playing piano, cooking and sitting in front of the log burner. The enclosed garden was great for dogs too. Would definitely recommend to anyone and hope to go back and stay again!

  • A great cottage to spend time at. Cosy and homely. Also loved the fact it’s on the interesting, desolate and hauntingly beautiful south Harris. Superb base for stunning beach hunting and wild walk explorations.

Converted crofthouse perched 50m above seashore in prime location: offering incredible views across East Loch Tarbert, to Scalpay and Skye. Perfectly situated for exploring the Islands. Comprising downstairs: 2 sitting rooms, dining kitchen, double bedroom (en suite shower/WC). Offering upstairs: a double, a twin, a single bedroom and bathroom with bath. Secluded garden, enclosed parking. Close to Tarbert (Skye ferry, shops, cafes, distillery). Only a short drive to famous sandy beaches.
Our spacious cottage is perfect either for a couple (kitchen, sitting rooms, master bedroom with en suite shower/WC on ground floor), families or groups of up to 7 people ( 3 further bedrooms and one bathroom with bath upstairs). Two sitting rooms are available, one with solid fuel stove. WiFi, TVs, DVDs , library and board games provided. Furnishings are traditional with wooden floors downstairs and coir upstairs. The cottage is set within a mature enclosed garden with open seaviews to the south. For coffee lovers there is a Tassimo coffee machine and French presses. USB-phone charger and printer provided.
The neighborhood is ideally suited for nature lovers, birdwatchers, anglers, cyclists and hillwalkers. Moreover, Harris is emerging as a gastrohub: e.g. couple of miles away over the bridge to Scalpay, lies the North-Harbour-Bistro where 10-or-more different seafoods may be tried - prepared by an award-winning chef. While Harris beaches are now world famous, the rest is equally worth visiting: HS3 has just been voted the UK's most beautiful postcode (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/lists/britains-best-postal-routes/).
  • What a perfect spot nestled along the rugged coastline of Harris. This stylish cottage is incredibly cosy with all the amenities that you could possibly want or use. As an architect, I found the interior aesthetic is perfect and very cosy, like a private lived-in residence. We made it our own and could have stayed forever! The location feels very remote and isolated but is actually fairly close to town and other attractions around the island. A ideal base for exploring or to just escape! The owner and local hosts are extremely friendly, helpful and attentive. I can’t wait to return. Absolutely loved this place!

    Susan2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great location for getting around Harris and Lewis. Great hosts, wonderful cottage that is very well equipped and cottage felt very welcoming.

  • A charming Old Croft house with plenty of character. Rod and Katrins house is very well equipped, spacious and warm. Not too far from Tarbert, it’s well positioned for exploring Harris and a great place to relax. We would highly recommend and will be certain to return.

    Alice2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • This spacious house provides a great base for exploring Harris and beyond. It is spotlessly clean, well equipped and loaded with charm. Communication was easy with the warm and welcoming hosts who have thought of everything.

    Bob2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a very nice time in the house of Rod & Katrin. The house is much larger than it appears in the pictures, very thoughtfully and lovingly furnished. We felt very welcome, a basket of wine and oatcakes was ready. Many little things made the stay special: well-equipped, quaint kitchen, bathroom with selection of toiletries ... The neighbors Alex and Roddy are extremely friendly and helpful, we had regular visits from their chickens and the cats. We quickly felt at home and would definitely come back when we return to Harris. Many thanks!!

Crook Cottage is over 100 years old and is a traditional, hand-built, Hebridean stone cottage. The accommodation overlooks Loch Beacravik (a sea loch), so fishing is just stone's throw away; or perhaps a spot of mussel picking in one of the nearby inlets. Wildlife enthusiasts will find themselves spoiled for choice, with otters, seals, oyster catchers, and the occasional bottle-nosed dolphin all on view from the comfort of the cottage windows (bring some binoculars!).
Crook Cottage dates back to the early 1900s and is a traditionally built Hebridean stone croft house. Its name derives from the hand-crafted shepherd's crook which was recently discovered within the walls of the kitchen. Tradition has it that such charms, hidden within a building's structure, deter evil spirits from the family home. The ground floor comprises a large lounge and recently fitted open plan kitchen-diner. The lounge, with two large 3-seater sofas, is centred around an oak-framed wrought iron, open fireplace. The window seat, finished with Harris Tweed curtains, also offers beautiful views of Loch Beacravik. TV, DVD player, WiFi and Hi-fi with a small selection of DVDs and CDs are available. The quintessential country style kitchen-diner is fitted with solid oak worktops and houses a range cooker, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. There is also a large dresser with telephone and information resources. Windows to the front aspect offer stunning views across the bay. FIRST FLOOR Upstairs are two spacious double bedrooms, both with uninterrupted views across the loch. Two further, single, fold-out beds make accommodation more flexible. A travel cot is also available for infants. The bathroom houses a shower over a long and deep tub; perfect for soaking after a day's walk. There is also an electric shaving point, separate toilet, and wash-basin across the landing.
  • Crook Cottage is wonderfully isolated, in a picturesque location. It's really comfortable, and a great place to be if the weather isn't so hot!

    Phil2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Such a relaxing and peaceful week on Harris in the lovely Crook Cottage! Cottage had everything we needed and was in a gorgeous spot- most of the time all you could hear were a few birds and the sea lapping against the rocks! Great base for exploring Harris and Lewis!

    Frances2019-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • A great cottage located in the most scenic of areas. The views are stunning and offer lots of opportunity to view the local wildlife. The cottage itself is very well equiped and catered for all our needs. Loved the large dinning kitchen in particular. Highly recommend the cottage and would not hesitate to return.

    Colin2019-04-06T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely time at Crooks cottage, everything was as described and it was a perfect location on Harris for our walking holiday. We saw a lot of wildlife over the week, but seeing seals and a sea otter from the kitchen window was prefect.

    Laura2019-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • We spend a wonderful and Relaxing week in Gemmas cottage on the beautiful Isle of Harris. The cottage is about 20 Minutes from Tarbert on a quiet single track road - the drive there is stunning, through wonderful Harris-typical landscapes along the coast and the bays. Although the road leads right past the back of the house, it's incredible quiet (And after a few days you wonder more about the very rarely passing cars than about the frequent sheep in the front Yard ;) ) The views from every single window are staggering. You can watch otters, the landscape in the changing light during the day, the tides and wunderful sunrises. The cottage itself offers everything you might ask for: a cozy and comfortable lounge room with a fireplace and a huge kitchen, equipped with a dish washer and a washing machine in the ground floor and two big and comfortable bedrooms in the upper floor. It also has a bathtub, perfect after a rainy day :) Gemma was a perfect host - very accomodating and fair and fast reacting. When we were not able to find the hair dryer, she quickly organized one for us. We will definitely come back! :) Thank you, Gemma.

    Florian2019-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • This was our fifth stay at Crook Cottage in as many years. The cottage is warm, cosy, and comes with all the modern comforts you need. But more than that, it sits on the most beautiful sea loch, filled with wildlife an ideal location for touring Harris. If you're looking for peace and quiet and a place to get away from the business of life, Crook cottage is ideal. And our 8 year old boy loves it too!

    Matthew2018-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • If you are after cosy, homely accommodation in beautiful, tranquil surroundings with views from every window (from where you can often spot otters in the loch)... then Crook Cottage is the place to stay! As the listing says, bring your binoculars. Very comfy beds, well equipped kitchen, coal fire, cosy sofas & window seats, hot & powerful shower.. Although the road runs behind the cottage this is not a problem at all as there is very little traffic. The area is extremely peaceful. Bear in mind that you may well not have a phone signal or network coverage - but consider this a bonus! It takes about 25mins to drive to Tarbert (nearest shops - although there are 2 cafes on route). You can take a lovely stroll straight from the cottage, with views back over the Loch and out over the sea. Gemma was very helpful with answering my questions beforehand and there was lots of useful literature in the property. Would definitely recommend.

    Anne2018-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • At Crook Cottage, we found peace. Perfect peace. A wonderful little haven, well appointed ( beautiful and spacious kitchen) cosy, and clean. The visiting sheep and geese were a bonus, and the antics of the otters could be enjoyed from the living room window. Magical. We will return.

Taigh Iomhair was originally a stone built thatched 'blackhouse'. It first appears on local historical records in 1814, but it is likely it was built in the latter half of the 18th century. The main structure of the house has not changed in over 200 years, but the property was internally refurbished in 2019, including new bathroom, kitchen, flooring and furnishings. The thatched roof was replaced many years ago, but the house still retains a character from a bygone crofting era.
Thick stone walls from a traditional croft house form the exterior of the cottage. Inside the cottage has been fully modernised. There is a new fitted kitchen with integrated dishwasher, washing machine/tumble dryer and fridge freezer. Double oven & grill, microwave, toaster and kettle are provided, as well as a range of cooking utensils and other essentials. The living room area includes a remote control LED fireplace and 43 inch smart TV. This provides access to a variety of apps such as BBC iPlayer, Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube. Guests will need their own login details to access these. A wifi router is situated in the living room and internet is available in every room. The TV includes a bluetooth connection facility for guests to connect devices for playing music. A portable bluetooth speaker also allows guests to play music, stream radio, etc, anywhere in the cottage. The bathroom features a new bathroom suite, with quadrant shower enclosure. The floor is tiled with underfloor heating. The bedroom comes complete with premium memory foam mattress to ensure guests are well rested throughout their stay at Taigh Iomhair. A 32 inch wall mounted TV is also located in the bedroom. Set up and controls on this TV are identical to those on the living room TV for simplicity of use.
The house is situated on a traditional island croft. This is a 5 to 10 minute drive from the village of Tarbert where shops, cafes, hotels, fuel, etc can be found. From Tarbert guests can easily access beaches to the south, mountains to the north, and explore further afield.
  • Beautiful cottage with an amazing view!

  • We really enjoyed our stay, the cottage was cosy and had all you could really need. The views were spectacular. Location was perfect for us getting around to see everything we wanted to in and around Harris and also a stop off in Lewis. Overall we were really happy with our stay and hope to visit again.

    Holly2019-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful modern cottage which exceeded our expectations, we have both stayed in many places but this so far has been the best. Location and local beaches, walks were fantastic. The hosts were very helpful when needed. We are already looking into a return trip. Thanks again. Matthew and Heidi

  • Beautiful and stylishly appointed cottage finished to a very high standard. Lovely and warm to come back to in the evenings and lots of nice touches. Really pretty setting and still close to Tarbert for ferry and amenities. Would definitely book again.

  • Taigh Iomhair is the perfect mixture of old and new. The traditional blackhouse has been updated beautifully, providing a really lovely place to stay and return to after a day of exploring the incredible Isles of Harris and Lewis. The home's location is simply stunning and only 10 mins from Tarbert with local amenities. We felt really privileged to have Taigh Iomhair as our home, even if only for a few days. Thanks to Shona and Donnie for their hospitality.

    Anna2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • The Taigh Iomhair shoreside cottage was absolutely lovely. It had everything we needed for our three-night stay and there was ample space for the two of us. Its been completely renovated and Shona's taste is impeccable. The bed was very comfortable, the kitchen is well laid out and the living room inviting. The views of the water from each room are outstanding. I recommend getting home before the sun sets so you can sit outside with a cup of tea or gin and tonic from the local distillery and enjoy the view. The place is very close to the local road which only sees limited traffic at around 8:30 am and 5:30 pm. It is also close to numerous hikes that are all outstanding. I highly recommend staying at this seaside cottage.

  • If you are thinking of visiting Harris you will love this cottage.

    Kim2019-09-16T00:00:00Z

  • Small but well equipped accommodation just a few minutes drive from Tarbert. The hosts live in the house next door and are extremely friendly and helpful. The location overlooking the sea is very nice. Directly in front of the accommodation there is a whirlpool for exclusive use, which we renounced due to the at the time of our stay extremely aggressive mosquitoes. We can highly recommend the Smithy!

  • We had a lovely stay at Braemore Chalet and really appreciated the gorgeous view and how cosy the place was. Everything was clean and well planned and so it made being there really easy. Handy for the ferry too as it’s only about a ten minute drive to Tarbert. Unfortunately, my husband was taken ill with a migraine which meant we needed to check out a wee bit later - Hazel was so kind and caring and said we could stay until our ferry time. We’d definitely stay here again if we come back to Harris.

  • Hazel’s chalet is the perfect place to base yourself for your island adventure. The chalet is comfortable and cosy with everything you need and the welcome basket with homemade pancakes is a lovely gesture. Hazel was quick to respond and very helpful when I asked about places to visit.

  • A really great place to stay and perfectly located for adventures by bike and on foot. The hut was very clean and comfortable. Also, it was really well stocked with everything you might need for a weeks stay (including games and maps). Communication with the host was great. If your cycling, there is a storage for bikes in the Loom shed and a bike wash facility. The hut is also situated between two great MTB loops. Highly recommended stay !

  • My wife and I stayed at the Fisherman's hut on Harris for our mini honeymoon. Julia was a very friendly and welcoming host providing lots of information about the local area. The hut was very cosy and comfortable (just what we needed after some rather driech days on Harris) and everything was easy to use. Space is utilised well to make the hut feel spacious and functional. On top of this, the hut is situated right on the shore of the loch with amazing views of An Cliseam, and was the perfect base for exploring Harris. This and no phone reception (O2) made for an incredibly relaxing week. Highly recommend!!

  • Great accommodation with a very sweet hostess and gentleman. The hostess knows a lot about the island and is happy to help you make your stay on Harris / Lewis unforgettable. We enjoyed it and will definitely be back. Two nights is just not enough to discover everything. Book at least 3!

  • This is a truly lovely place to stay in the Hebrides. Our room was well appointed, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom spacious and modern. However the biggest asset is the view... The house is located directly on the shore of Loch Seaforth. Both our room as well a the lounge we shared with the other room overlook the garden and the Loch; the views are magnificent. Amanda is a great hostess very friendly, helpful and well organised. She took very good care of us and cooked us tasty and filling breakfast. We would highly recommend Mulag House!

The breakfast was a typical scottish roundup and very delicious. We'll drop by most certainly the next time we'll visit the outer hebrides!

  • Alex House is a few miles from Tarbert. Although we were there with the bikes, we really enjoyed the stay on Scalpay. The room and bathroom were clean and Alex was very attentive. He opened his whole house for us, had a delicious breakfast and even charging cable with all connections. When we forgot our water bottle at 6 o'clock in the morning, he drove us by car and brought it to us. We like to come back to Alex and can highly recommend him.

This is a recently refurbished ground floor property, situated close to all the local amenities in the village of Tarbert, including the ferry terminal, distillery, Harris Tweed shop, local shops and eating places. It is an ideal base from which to explore the Isles of Harris and Lewis, with their amazing beaches, wildlife, and places of historical interest. The property provides comfortable accommodation, suitable for use all year, with a wood burning stove for extra comfort in winter.
Suitable for couples or single people. No smoking.
Gaelic language is spoken in Harris, although all residents speak English. Gaelic can be heard spoken in the local community. The local area has some spectacular scenery, boasting some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and the natural environment is relatively unpolluted. Residents on the Islands of Harris and Lewis are generally very hospitable and friendly, and it is one of the safest areas of Europe to live, as crime rates are very low. If you are looking for a relaxing, friendly place to visit, which boasts an incredible natural environment, then this is the place for you.
  • Lena's place is ideally located as a base to explore both Harris and Lewis. Sparkling clean, and equipped with every thoughtful little touch you could wish for. Great log burner for those colder nights, but The apartment is toasty warm anyway with Hive controlled central heating. Really comfy bed, and the kitchen has every gadget you could ever need. Would highly recommend and will be back again when we're next up that way.

  • This flat is a great wee place. Good sized rooms, plenty of utensils in the kitchen, lovely living room, good size bedroom and a nice bathroom. A great place to stay. The only thing it lacked was a space to secure our bikes, but apart from that we had a wonderful stay. We would recommend this accommodation to anyone.

    Bill2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • We found the flat to be an excellent base for our stay on Harris and would recommend and return to if staying on the island again. Many thanks Lena :)

Seaspray bothy is one of two unique chalets inspired by the traditional Scottish bothy. Located in the crofting village of Arivruaich, Seaspray is set in stunning scenery on the shores of Loch Seaforth. It is conveniently positioned midway between the ferry terminals of Stornoway and Tarbert. Although Seaspray is a stone's throw from the loch shore with no one to overlook you, the A859 is at the end of the croft and a bus stop 5 minutes walk away allowing easy access to the rest of the Island.
A continental style breakfast can be provided each morning if required. This includes orange juice, crusty bread rolls, muffins, fresh fruit, cheese, porridge pots, cereal selection and milk. This is charged at £7 per person per day. Please let me know in your booking communication if you would like to book breakfast. Seaspray Bothy has a bedroom and a bathroom. It is furnished with a luxurious super king-sized bed, bed linen and towels. The bathroom contains a large walk-in shower and is large enough to hang any wet clothing. Seaspray has underfloor heating to create a comfortable warmth in the tiled floor and a wood burning stove to heat the room. The wood burner is supplied with firelighters, kindling and fuel and guests are encouraged to light the fire and experience the stunning atmosphere of this location. Seaspray and Driftwood Bothies are linked by the shared space of a covered courtyard. Outdoor seating is provided for guests to enjoy the ever changing scenery. Cooking facilities are only provided beneath the covered courtyard. There is a traditional BBQ and a portable electric hob, both of which are free to use. Plates, cutlery, utensils and cookware are all provided. We only ask you bring your own charcoal. An area to cook using your own cooking stoves is also provided. There is also a central firepit called an OFYR in the courtyard, which can be used as a BBQ and grill for groups. Please tell me if you are interested in using this and I can give you further information. In the courtyard there is also a Belfast sink with hot water for any washing up required, along with outdoor seating and table. A family-sized fridge is also provided to store your food. The floor of Seaspray is tiled and level to allow unrestricted access to all areas including the shower. There is a small step into the bothy from the courtyard.
Seaspray bothy is in the middle of the island and is surrounded by the beautiful scenery of Loch Seaforth. The stunning beaches of Lewis and Harris can all be reached in around an hour or less by car. The largest town, Stornoway, is 18 miles away and has two supermarkets.

Single room for one person, in a traditional crofthouse renovated to a Guest House offering private rooms with ensuite and guest lounge and kitchen with access to all facilities (washing, drying, cooking, lunch prep). Generous continental breakfast provided for guests to help themselves to, with full cooked at a small charge on request. This listing is for one of 3 bedrooms available - a family room (Machair), a double room (Beach) and a single room (Mountain).
Vigadale Guest House sits at the foot of the largest 'mountain range' in the Western Isles, on the border between Lewis & Harris. It is set on a working croft by Loch Seaforth, with the hills as a backdrop. Within 5 minutes guests can walk into the hills and feel a real sense of wilderness. Great location for exploring the island by car, on bike or on foot, with the Hebridean Way passing the door. From the house you have a high chance of seeing both Golden and White Tailed Eagles, among other birds of prey. And if you're lucky, you may see the otters on the shore.
Ardvourlie is a small crofting community, where neighbours help one another. Tarbert is the nearest village, approx 12 miles over the Clisham. Stornoway is 34 miles to the North. PLEASE NOTE, when finding us, we are on the main A859 route between Lewis & Harris, approx one mile south of the border into Harris and 2nd entrance on right after the Scaladale Centre heading north. We are right by road, with a sign at top of driveway. If you’re struggling to find us, call the landline (mobile signal is not available within the house).

  • Very friendly family, good to find, everything you need is available.

    Jane2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Cristina's guesthouse is perfectly located on Isle of Harris to explore both Harris and Lewis! My mountain view room was just the right size for a single traveler and had coffee/tea making facilities, which made it easier to wake up every morning. The reason the guesthouse really shines is the guest lounge and the kitchen. The kitchen is super well stocked with everything you need for breakfast - bread, jam, eggs, butter, cereal, milk, juices and it is all included as part of your booking. They even have beers in the cooler for turning down in the evening and Cristina offers many frozen meals for purchase if you need them. Overall, perfectly comfortable and high value stay! I'll go back here if ever in Harris again :)

  • Great location for a base to explore both Lewis and Harris. The washing machine/dryer was a Godsend because the weather was very disappointing during my stay ... rain and more rain. Cristina, her brother and his wife were great hosts giving me advice on hiking recommendations and I enjoyed chatting with Cristina's kids, Rosie and Archie. A very homely atmosphere and I was made to feel very welcome. Not the easiest place to find when I first arrived as satnav does not recognize the precise address. I loved the food wagon called "Taste n' Sea" parked about a mile north of Cristina's place, great food and very friendly people :-)

  • Clean and beautiful house in a beautiful setting. Comfortable and tastefully decorated with every ammentity possible. Superb stay with great sleep and a welcoming reception. Was like staying with family. Introduced to other guests for a comforting relaxed atmosphere and allowed to meet the animals. Got to play with the cats and stoked the chickens. Awesome. Parking was available for my minibus with space for other vehicles too and very safe. Superb stay and will be back. Thanks Cristina Frank and his BusyBus

  • Super cosy yurt even when the weather was howling outside. Greig was a great host!

    Polly2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Greig’s place was absolutely wonderful. The Yurt was beautifully located overlooking the loch. Greig showed us around and pointed out where we could potentially see otters, seals and eagles. We would definitely stay here again next time we are in the area.

    Heather2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a magical place! Superb location and view. Wish we could have stayed longer. Fabulous host who showed us where to spot the local otters and seals.

    Nicola2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Unfortunately, we were unable to stay with Greig due to complications with the ferry back to the mainland, however, Greig was a pleasure to deal with and hopefully we will be able to stay in the future.

    Allan2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in a yurt for two nights. Completely new experience, very interesting. The yurt is well equipped and the stormy weather was no problem. The shared facilities are sufficiently clean. The location is absolutely great to explore the stunning southern part of Harris.

    Benedict2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • I would recommend everyone who are new to Hebrides like me. Greig with his warm welcome , give you right destination to spot what are you looking for. His son took me for fishing at coast which is the climax moment in my trip. The place is really good for landscape photography and in good weather you might get otters and seal captures. Staying at the tent in this heavenly beautiful place will definitely lifetime experience. Thank you Grieg for everything

There is a small garden to the back of the cabin where you can sit and relax and enjoy the peace of the village.

Rodel is a very quiet and peaceful village based in South Harris with 13 crofts set within lush green pastures. There are many great walks to do from the cabin take a stroll down to St Clements church or hike over the hill towards Borrisdale.

  • Rebecca’s place is spotlessly clean and amazingly furnished. Describing it as a log cabin doesn’t do justice to how stunning and luxurious the accommodation is. Rebecca is an attentive host answering messages promptly and providing lovely touches. I can’t wait to return to the Isle of Harris and stay again. I would recommend anyone to stay.

  • Cosy cabin. Spotlessly clean. A warm welcome from Rebecca and a real treat to see Stevie weaving Harris Tweed. Rodel has s a lovely village. Away from the motorhome madness of the west but still an easy drive away. Lots of great walks on the doorstep. Highly recommended. The sauna was a great treat on a stormy day!

  • A truly special place for those seeking beauty and peaceful surroundings. Such warmth and genuine love abound with the landscape and scenery simply breathtaking and the local Harris and Lewis people so helpful and engaging.

  • Lovely cozy house in a beautiful location, this was truly a home from home. We loved sitting in the sun room in the mornings and the evenings until it got dark and we moved to the cozy lounge. Good sized bedrooms with very comfortable beds. An excellent place for a nice relaxing stay. We would definitely stay here again.

    Alison2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our week at the anchorage. Our family (from age 3 to 71!) all had a great time. We especially loved the comfy beds, big well equipped kitchen and space to chill out. Best of all was the sun room when we watched the tide come and go and the sun set over the water. It was renamed the ‘relaxing room’ by my little daughter! Thanks for a lovely stay.

  • We had an amazing time . The house is very nice and big. Situated on a beautiful place.

  • You will not be disappointed. The house is in a great location. It's within walking distance of the North Harbour Bistro which is a brilliant place for a special night out. Scalpay is a lovely wee island and people are quietly friendly. The house itself is warm (important). There's plenty of cutlery, dishes and other kitchen items. There's also a cupboard with basics such as salt, pepper, etc. There's plenty of towels, tea towels, toiletries, etc. The wee conservatory is bright, cheerful. The woodburning stove is very efficient. All-in-all, it's excellent value for money.

  • Just great! Great hosts, you are fast on the beach and as a starting point for excursions, the house is also great. The area is fantastic. The house has everything you need. :)

    Barbara2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Scarista Beach House has direct access to a fantastic beach with lovely rock pools to explore and a huge sand dune to climb. This was also a great place to watch the stars on a clear night. Although I could easily spend a week and not have to venture far from the beach house, it's location makes it ideal for exploring West Harris. You need to see Luskentyre. The house is very comfortable for relaxing in the evening. It was fab to have a separate sitting room upstairs where our teenagers could watch their own TV. We ate in most nights, enjoying a Harris gin, but did treat ourselves to an elegant dinner at the Scarista House Hotel (adults only). Even when the weather is dull, the scenery is still dramatic and I would recommend booking a table for lunch at the North Harbour bistro on Scalpay.

  • Great house just mins for the beach. Callum’s Dad popped out to see us when we arrived to make sure we knew where he was if we needed anything which was lovely. Very clean with everything you need, kitchen very well equipped. Liked the added touch of supplying dishwater tablets and washing machine tablets. We had a lovely relaxing time waking on beaches and enjoying the island. The beach near the house is lovely but should point out not suitable for swimming or any type of water sport. All in all my family and I had a fantastic stay and would recommend to anyone.

  • A beautiful spot on an island full of incredible views and amazing turquoise waters. The house is lovely and it is just a short walk to what feel like a private beach. Gorgeous white sands and so relaxing watching the waves roll in. Just a short drive to the newly opened Machair Kitchen where the food is great - also not to far to the new Co-Op in Leverburgh to stock up on supplies if needed. Amazing for kids, my wee niece and nephew ran about the beach non stop. Ideal for tiring them out at the end of the day meaning that you can relax with a nice glass of wine once they have crashed out! Would highly recommend and hope to return again.

Seaforth offers accommodation for max. 3 adults, spread over one bedroom and one living room/kitchen which includes a pull-out couch. There is also one full bath (bath tub/shower in one) Both rooms take full advantage of the surrounding scenery, and have a cosy, rustic feel.
The kitchen is equipped with microwave, fridge, coffee machine and cooker/oven. A washing machine and drier are located in a small building next to the cottage. Bed linen and towels are included in the rent. The cottage is offered on a self-catered basis, preferably from Saturday to Saturday.
Seaforth Cottage possesses one of the finest views on the estate. Set on an isolated promontory overlooking Loch Seaforth, its view encompasses Mount Clisham, the tallest mountain in the Outer Hebrides, to the south and the Eishken hills to the north.
  • Sandra was very helpful and gave us plenty information before we arrived. We’ve stayed at the cottage before and just love it there.

  • A week of storms and low pressure fronts didnt spoil this trip in the slightest. Cottage is in a stunning position with good central access to Harris and Lewis. The access road is steep and loose in places. I had a van and it managed it without to much trouble. A car may struggle. Lots of local info provided to help you get the most from your stay. Real fireplace in the living room and bedroom. Ah, the bedroom...so comfortable. Perfection.

  • Amazing view from a well positioned cottage

  • Idyllic place to unwind for 2 persons on the Loch shore. Very cosy, warm and comfortable.

    Rodney2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • We were staying one week mid of August in this stunning place. Everything poitive which was said in the previous comments is simply true. The place is situated perfectly and the surrounding is just amazing. Although we didn't see any otters we nevertheless enjoyed the view on the Loch and the minutely changing clouds, weather and light. We can simply recommend this place if you are looking for something secluded. The cottage is well equipped for daily needs and communication with Sandra was always perfect. We'd definately love to come back!

    Simon2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely cottage right on the Lochside, miles from anywhere, but still a great location for visits to places of interest in both Lewis and Harris. Great walking tracks on the doorstep, and (when the cloud lifts!) great views from the cottage windows and terrace. We saw eagles, red deer and seals without travelling far at all.

    Nick2019-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • Wow!!! Absolutely loved staying here, it was private with an amazing view. The accommodation, Island, views, wildlife, a hidden jewel around every corner - just amazing.

The Little White Bothy is very central - offering the best choice to explore both Lewis and Harris. With views of Loch Erisort and the surrounding hills, it's a perfect place to go and relax. The Erisort Inn is only one mile along the road, serving locally caught seafood - booking essential. The bothy is very suitable for those looking to pursue walking, photography, or a quiet place to unwind, sit in the porch read a book watch out for eagles soaring by.
    It's relaxing!!!
Balallan is one of the longest villages in Scotland, almost 4 miles long. The bothy sits at the end of the village onto the Loch Erisort road. Although the bothy is on the roadside it still offers a sense of peace and quiet, seclusion without isolation. The village does not have any shops for supplies - there is a post office, and further up, a small cafe within the community building.
  • This is a lovely little place to stay; small but perfectly formed, and in the right spot to experience Lewis&Harris properly

  • We had an amazing stay and felt so at home at the Bothy. It had everything we needed in the kitchen the place was spotless. It was perfectly placed for us to explore Lewis and Harris. It is off the main road so very peaceful (although I think everywhere is peaceful!) with stunning views out of every window. A great place to stay and a fantastic host! Fiona checked in on us a couple of times and we really felt that she wanted us to enjoy our stay. We hope to be back.

Aird Villa with its south facing decking is said to be one of the nicest houses on the Isle of Scalpay. It sits overlooking Scalpay’s gentle north harbour where the local fishing boats are moored . The house was recently renovated to a very high standard and so is comfortable and warm. It has a modern clean feeling coupled with the charm of a traditional Scalpay island home. We invite you to come and explore the wildness of magnificent Harris and to unwind, relax and just be.
Aird Villa is in a quiet and peaceful location. The property is ideal for a family, or 1 or 2 couples, and their dogs too. There are 2 ensuite bedrooms: the one downstairs has a large double, and the one upstairs has 2 single beds, sofa bed (117 cm wide), and portable babies cot. The ensuite bathroom upstairs includes a walk in shower. The ensuite bathroom downstairs includes a walk in shower and a bath. There is a living area, a very well equipped open plan kitchen, separate downstairs toilet, utility room and spacious hall area. The front door leads outside onto the large decking area that looks out across the quiet fishing boat harbour. We provide child safety gates for the stairs and a high chair. We have endeavoured to make the house comfortable and cosy with little luxuries that add to your stay such as good books, gorgeous Essence of Harris bathroom treats….and more. There'll probably be some groceries too, for example muesli, pasta and olive oil, in case you're short of essentials when you first arrive. We ask that you replenish the foodstuffs you use as appropriate. We request no smoking, and our furry friends must please stay off the furniture.
Na h-Eileanan an Iar is Scottish Gaelic for the Western Isles, also known as the Outer Hebrides. One of these islands is the Isle of Harris. Aird Villa is on the Isle of Scalpay, connected to Harris by a bridge. Nearby, on the Isle of Harris, Tarbert is the port where the car ferries from Uig in Skye arrive. It also has the conveniences of the Hebridean Hotel with its atmospheric Mote Bar serving rustic bar food plus its Pierhouse Restaurant, the Harris Hotel Restaurant, 2 local grocery stores, Harris Garage where you can buy petrol, and the excellent North Harris Medical Practice. A few must-see visits in Tarbert are the Isle of Harris Whisky and Gin Distillery, the Harris Tweed Shop, and Essence of Harris. There are wonderful walks on the islands and the hike out to Scalpay's Eilean Glas lighthouse is not to be missed. The local fishing boats provide some of the fabulous fresh seafood for the renowned North Harbour Bistro in Scalpay's main settlement near the bridge. Top tip : booking ahead is essential. The white sand beaches on Western Harris are breathtaking, our favourite being at Huisinis, partly because the road out to it is so stunningly scenic. Top tip : always keep a look out for soaring Golden Eagles. The drive down the Golden Road to St Clement's Church at Rodel is out of this world.....and of course try to see the mystical Callanish Stones on Lewis. Top tip : also include in your visit the nearby Callanish Stones II and III.
  • Extremely comfortable house, would recommend anyone to stay here!!

  • Very clean and cosy, with lovely views from the garden in the morning. Jules was very friendly and made it clear that she was there if we needed anything, but mostly left us to our own devices. We didn't opt for the breakfast, but were pleasantly surprised by the tea and coffee available! Great base for exploring Harris, or a place to spend the night before catching the ferry from Tarbert.

    Catriona2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Mike and Jules were wonderful - friendly, helpful and attentive but not intrusive. The tasteful and immaculate accommodation had its own (shared with other guests) kitchen and breakfast was served by/with the hosts. It was great to chat about their journey to this wonderful part of the world and also about the local area over fresh porridge, fruit, croissants and coffee. The Harris Gin Distillery has tours that are packed out so make sure you book that into your stay too. Coming back!

  • Beautiful accommodation in a beautiful island. Mike and Jules are great hosts and next time we are back in Harris we will 100% be staying back with them. Clearly love hosting and it showed. I’d recommend getting breakfast as well, Jules wips up a mean porridge to start your day. Thanks guys 👍🏻👍🏻

  • Very much enjoyed our stay. Accomodation was clean, warm and comfortable. Wonderful views of Scalpay and Scalpay bridge. Hosts very pleasant and helpful.

  • Mike and Jules go that extra mile to make your stay as welcoming as possible. The guest area includes access to a small kitchen shared by other guests if any are there. Our bedroom had 2 single beds with lovely cosy duvets and plenty of storage space in drawers. We would highly recommend this place to other island hoppers, although you will need a car to get to it.

Traditional, spacious croft house in the beautiful Isle of Harris. An ideal base for exploring this stunning corner of the Western Isles. A holiday here is perfect for those wishing to get away from it all and who appreciate the outdoors. The island offers a range of activities including hill-walking, bird-watching and mountain biking, or the opportunity to take it easy and soak up the stunning scenery.
Former family home in a small crofting community on the western edge of North Harris. This large, quaint house is perfect for families or groups of friends who want to experience a unique Hebridean adventure.
Govig is a small hamlet of 7 houses. There are working crofts in the village so expect to see Highland cattle and sheep in and around the vicinity and on the hills. The house overlooks a small loch which feeds a stream to the Atlantic - a mere 2 minute walk from the front door. There are several walks in and around the village which can be accessed without travel, in addition to many well-known outdoor beauty spots all over the island. The beach at Tamana is a short 20 minute walk from the house. The going is quite hilly and requires a moderate level of fitness but is well worth the seclusion of a beach to yourself. For a larger (and well photographed) beach, Huisinis is one of the jewels in Harris's crown. This is a 5 minute drive west from Govig and affords stunning waves, sand and views.
  • Listen to the wind and take in the beauty of the sea and the moors. Wonderful spot. Remote and incredibly relaxing. Everything you need.

  • If you want to get away from it all, then there are few better places to do it than the rugged wilds of Harris and few better places to stay when in said wilds than the home Shona hosts on AirBNB. The home is roomy and welcoming. Shona's mother is near at hand in the event you should require assistance. Bathroom is on the ground floor and the bedrooms are on the first floor. Access to the first floor is by way of a steep flight of stairs with narrow treads so the elderly and infirm should be aware. The home is comfortable and a good base from which to explore the Outer Hebrides. I would both stay here again and highly recommend it.

  • The cottage was wonderful. Very spacious and cozy at the same time. 4 big bedrooms plus a comfortable lounge and big kitchen. During our week we saw a lot of wildlife - deer, gannet, seals, plus a lot of sheep, highland cows and Shetland ponies. The beaches are incredible and every turn is breathtaking.
