Places to stay in Hacketstown
Self check in, taking extra measures to clean our space. Perfect place to hide away from all that's going on in the world. No TV, no wifi, no human interaction. Inside the Treehouse you will find luxury combined with nature. The treehouse has a bbq with an attached gas hob for outdoor cooking only, a bathroom with walk in shower plus a flushing WC, including constant hot-water and a gas fire, it is fully waterproof and insulated.
The living and dining area is open plan with a balcony mezzanine as the sleeping area with a double bed. Through the French doors you walk on to a large deck overlooking the large garden area. The decking area is equipped with a barbeque for outdoor cooking and outdoor furniture for dining outdoors on the decking overlooking the garden and part of our 40 acre working farm below. We have no indoor cooking facilities. Prosecco in ice bucket available at extra cost. We have fantastic natural deciduous woodland nearby to enjoy, with high mix of wildlife including red squirrel, rabbit, foxes, deer etc. The property has a number of farm animals, a pony, a donkey, cows, hens, peacocks. There is a large wood area and walks attached to the farm, great for walkers. The farm is connected to great walks including walks to the some archaeological and historical sites. The land is connected to Baltinglass Hill and The Pinnacle: Neolithic passage grave on the summit of Baltinglass Hill, from the Stone Age.
  • A very quirky cosy treehouse. Perfect place to chill out. Everything there we needed. Great recommendations for eating out from Niamh. Will definitely go back

    Felicity2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The treehouse and host were both brilliant! We were booked in the night of a storm so Niamh offered to reschedule but we were happy to stay and the treehouse was sturdy in the wind. The only downfall was the taxi service which is to no fault of Niamhs, she provided his number and was quick to respond when I messaged her. The taxi brought us in and said to call back when we wanted to leave but wouldn't answer his phone after several missed calls and voicemails left so we had to walk home in the dark. Thankfully the rain held off and the road was mainly lit with street lights but it is a country road so can be dangerous. I'd say it's a nice walk in the summer or even when you're prepared with a high vis or torch. That was the only downfall and not the hosts fault so would definitely recommend 🙂

  • The perfect place to stay after a long day of hiking the wocklow mountains

    Sean2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing experience, even in the middle of winter we were able to fully enjoy it. The tree house is super warm and cozy and it has all the commodities you could possible need while staying literally at the top of a tree! Being able to cook a full Irish breakfast on the bbq/hob that's on top of the tree was just awesome! We loved every minute and will definitively come back. We enjoyed total privacy, amazing views and great location. Best weekend ever. Thank you so much to Niamh and husband :-D

    Patricia2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Niamh and Owen are very open and supportive. The tree house is amazing and I will definitely book it again soon. I strongly recommend it.

    Diego2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • The treehouse is an absolute gem. Only thing we found an issue with was having to cook outside in the stormy weather as there is nothing to cook with inside. If you were to visit during the summer it would be no issue.

  • Such an experience! Everyone should stay here at least once. Rang in the New Year here and it was the perfect getaway! Very cozy, warm and clean! The treehouse itself is absolutely beautiful and it is obvious to see it was designed and made with love. Thanks for the best New Years ever🥳🥂

    Andrea2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • The treehouse was lovely, the pictures do not do it justice! Niamh was responsive to any questions we had during our stay. Perfect, quaint place for a weekend getaway. I will definitely be back to book again! Thanks for having us at your lovely treehouse.

Set in a traditional farm courtyard, this converted Wicklow stable offers a contemporary, spacious, open-plan living space with all mod cons. We are a seven-minute drive from Rathsallagh - perfect for guests attending weddings there!
Set in an authentic farmyard, the Stable has a fresh and contemporary feel. Perfect for a romantic get away to enjoy the Wicklow countryside. The bedroom is on a mezzanine level at the top of a custom built spiral staircase, so best suited to able-bodied adults. I converted the stables myself and lived there for five years while I renovated the main house, which I now live in. The restoration is ongoing, and our low prices reflect the fact that the driveway and garden are still 'works in progress'! All our guests love Ballyhook, but I do ask guests to please be aware that this is a working farm (I run a brewery business and I will leave you a sample in the fridge if you're lucky!). If you want five star wall-to-wall luxury this is not the place for you, if you want a fantastic fun experience of real irish life I believe you will be delighted!
The accessability to the Wicklow Mountains, Russborough House,Punchestown, The Curragh, Rathsallagh House Hotel, Burtown House and Gardens, Baltinglass, Blessington lakes, Glendalough, Kildare Village all with in 30 minutes drive. Finished off by the infamous Moores Pub and casa tapas restraunt in the local village of Grangecon 5 mins drive.
  • Overall we had a lovely stay at Angus’ place. We stayed there for 11 nights and during this time the house became a kind of home after our journeys in Ireland. We arrived quite late and had no problems checking in. In the fridge we found everything we need for the breakfast, which was a real lifesaver as we arrived so late the evening before and couldn’t go groceries shopping. The bed is absolute gorgeous - feels like you sleep in clouds. As someone else wrote, the furniture might not be as new as it was on the pictures, but it’s still in good condition. Angus was a great host, we felt very welcomed and he had good tips what we should visit as well. He made it easy to feel comfortable and always made sure we have everything we need. If you get the chance you should definitely try his beer, it tastes really good. You get the chance to order it in Grangecons pub, which you should visit. Apart from that we can recommend visiting Glendalough, Bray and Blessington. In Blessington (20mins drive) you have also the chance to go to Dublin by Bus. Since you can enjoy a quit location you need a car for mostly everything. Overall we really enjoyed the stay and would come back when we visit Ireland again.

    Helene2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation at Angus offers almost everything you could wish for. To make excursions, it is necessary to have a car with you. We can only recommend Angus as a host !!

    Chris2019-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • Angus's place is a sensational experience on a working farm. The cottage is beautifully renovated with all mod cons and comforts. Angus is such a generous host supplying a range of delicious local produce and ideas of what to do in the local area. Its a special experience staying here and I would absolutely recommend it if you are wanting some rural downtime.

  • Thanks again for a great stay! It was easy to live there for a month. I enjoyed the peace and quiet. Thank you for the great hospitality.

    Danielle2019-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay here, the place is so beautifully decorated with lots of nice touches, perfectly clean and in a lovely scenic location. Best bit though has to be the piglets! We would definitely stay again

    Amy2019-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely, clean and light home in a beautiful and quiet setting, with good links to get to all the attractions. The spiral staircase took a little getting used to but we were soon comfortable getting up and down. Angus is a welcoming and relaxed host and it was great to meet him. We had a great holiday and hope to come back.

    Chdel2019-05-08T00:00:00Z
  • Talk about a place to recharge. With the wood stove burning, and a book in every part of the house, you’ll appreciate every part of being out in the country to reflect and relax. Angus was absolutely delightful as a host. Will miss your place so much! Stay here guys. You’ll absolutely love it.

The barn is a long vernacular stone building nestled in a quiet valley near the Wicklow border with a wood floored huge interior space (about 20 x 5metres) and a large open fireplace. It sleeps up to 17 people comfortably and is mainly used for yoga retreats and low key family gatherings so not suitable for parties or boozy events.
The sensitively renovated barn is ideal for large groups. Its stunning large vernacular space is used mainly for yoga retreats, meditation groups and family reunions. The space fits about 25 people on yoga mats and we provide mats, bricks, blocks belts and blankets for up to 17 practitioners. At night the 18th century stone walls sparkle with candles and the big fire is central to the gatherings. With Ireland's inclement weather the spacious interior can absorb people of all ages and interests even if it's pouring outside. Dry logs for the big fire can be picked up from the local grocery store. There is a well equipped kitchen with a new large electric cooker, an American style fridge , another smaller fridge and microwave. There are two dishwashers to facilitate food prep and clean up for big groups. There are benches and chairs and enough big pots, serving platters and cutlery to seat over 20 people. Bedrooms: In the long barn there are three bedrooms and three bathrooms. The ground floor bedroom has a double bed and a bunk bed with the bathroom beside it. (This bathroom is also for general use for the barn during the day). It sleeps up to three people There is a bedroom above this with two single beds and an ensuite bathroom with shower. The third bedroom is on the far side above the kitchen and has a double bed plus a single bed. There is a shower in one enclosure and sink/wc in the other - this one has no blinds or curtains so it's bright on summer mornings! The extension has four bedrooms: One twin ensuite room with a nice view to the zen garden. One ensuite bedroom with two bunks (sleeping four). There is a divide between the beds so it feels quite separate. Then two further smaller bedrooms. Both with two beds and a divider to keep the beds separate. They share a large bathroom with bath and shower. Farmhouse The farmhouse has a further two bedrooms, one with a double bed (the master) The other bedroom has a bunk bed and a single bed so it can sleep three. They share a bathroom . There's a basic kitchen downstairs and sitting room. The sitting room has a small day bed. It's a house full of character built in 1770, a bit bockity and ancient but full of charm. The farmhouse issn't included in the price fo the barn so if you need extra accommodation let me know and I can send you a quote.
Monalea is situated on the side of a beautiful hill on an ancient road that crosses the Wicklow mountains, This is a quiet road in an agricultural valley with not many cars and only the odd tractor. There are some houses nearby, but not visible from the house so it's not completely isolated but when night falls there is the pure dark quiet of the countryside. There's a hike behind the house up towards Croghan mountain and you can do an hour's walk ending up beside the Gap pub where you can have refreshments and either walk home on the road or avail of the shuttle bus service Sean offers day and night - he knows the barn well! There's a small river running at the bottom of the hill and plenty of cows and sheep in the fields. There is fly fishing in a lake 3km away, archery about 5km away and a holistic centre nearby.
  • Monalea Barn is such a beautiful place to stay, and it has everything you need from lovely layout to every practicle thing you might need. Had a lovely stay and Ruth was a great host.

    Conor2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • An exceptional location for teams. The location for visiting Dublin for some days is quite good as you can use the way along the coast (brittas bay) or through the wickley mountains. The interiors is great, a bathroom for all sleeping rooms and an big fireplace is something that all iof our team enjoyed.

    Thomas2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • The barn is a wonderful space. It easily fits 20 people with almost all rooms being en-suite. The communal living area is enormous allowing for everyone to hang out comfortably. The kitchen is really well stocked with plates, glasses, cutlery and cooking utensils. Outdoors there's a fire pit which you can sit around if the weather permits and enjoy the lovely gardens. You can walk from the house to the local pub and go on a nice forest track for a good hike. I would highly recommend staying there.

  • Best place to stay with friends, we all had a great time and loved the house so much

    Marta2019-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Thirteen of us stayed for 3 nights for my dad’s 70th birthday celebrations. We flew to Dublin and got hire cars and drove down to Monalea Barn. It was perfect for a big family do, loads of bedrooms/beds/en suites and space. It felt like a retreat, even though we had a full itinerary. Two dishwashers are the most wonderful idea in a place this size, so it’s easy to keep on top of the inevitable pile of dishes. The kids absolutely loved it, so much space to play and run around. Felt lucky to be able to use this property for our special occasion..

    Annie2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • The home is stunning. The space is greater than expected for a household of guests. Ruth has a very clean and spacious space with great amenities and beautiful decor. Our guests traveled very far and finding a home to fit a large group was very difficult, however Ruth made every step of the stay much easier. She was very accommodating and responds quickly to messages. She is a great host and the space is remarkable. We are very thankful for a lovely place to stay while we traveled to Ireland for our wedding blessing. Lindsey

    Lindsey2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • The location and house are fantastic but the real stand out for me was the grounds. We were fortunate with the weather and we ate out side every-night. We had lots of small kids with us and they loved playing the orchards and grass, it was a real hit and allowed us to sit back and relax whilst keeping the kiddos entertained. Lastly the fire pit was a real bonus too as we chilled out with a glass of wine after finally getting the kids in bed. Really a great house to spend time with a big a group!

    Stephen2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Top Five Things I Loved About Monalea Barn: 5. The location was BEAUTIFUL! 4. The kitchen had enough table settings and pots and pans to cook for a large group. 3. The main room of the barn is open and airy, yet cosy. 2. Many of the bedrooms had an ensuite. 1. It sets the stage so nicely for a retreat or family gathering!

  • Wow, what an amazing stay! Easily one of our favorite Airbnbs we've every stayed in. The space was cozy and stylish, with a comfortable bed and many amenities. Jennifer has clearly put so much thought and care into every little detail of the pod. She graciously greeted us when we arrived and made sure we knew where everything was. The views of the countryside around the pod are spectacular, and we loved being greeted by the hens and friendly dogs in the morning. If we ever find ourselves in Ireland again, we'll go out of our way to stay at the Laurel Pod!

  • A lovely, quiet, quaint spot. The pod looks even better in person than it does in the pics. Sparkling clean, comfy bed and furnishings, and lovely details such as the hens eggs and little snacks Jennifer left out for us. The bathroom being outside doesn’t take anything away from the experience, lovely hot water, towels and soap provided. Would highly recommend the place.

We had a great weekend celebrating my mother’s 60th with the gang of Aunties and Nieces. The house has everything you need. Stunning.

  • We were a group of 8 women looking for a relaxed, self contained weekend away to celebrate a 'big' birthday for one of our group and 'The Lodge' exceeded our expectations. Loved the house, the pool table was great fun but the outdoor hot tub was by far our favourite thing, magical! The house was spotlessly clean, there were lovely open fires, we had tons of hot water ... the bath was very relaxing after a days walking. Our host was exceptional

  • Lovely, spacious cottage within easy distance of the Wicklow mountains. Pádraig is a very attentive host, always on hand if needed, but not intrusive. We went in February, well out of season, but had a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

  • Made our weekend very special Especially when we snowed in. Got out in the end Host very nice said we could stay as long as we needed

  • Me and my boyfriend were looking for somewhere quiet for a weekend away and we stayed in Padraigs cottage for 2 days. We arrived at 7pm and Padraig had the fire already lighting for us. The cottage is beautiful and so clean. We cooked all our own meals there over the weekend with pots, pans and everything there to hand. We went for a lovely hike up the mountains on Sunday, came back, had dinner in front of the fire and watched a movie. It was just bliss away from the hectic week we both had. There was any amount of fire wood, also heating and WiFi. The bed was so comfy. Also Padraig messaged to make sure we were okay for everything. Would definitely go back and will highly recommend to all my friends 😊 5 stars 🖐

  • Wonderful wonderful host. Although the pictures are stunning you have to see this cottage to believe how beautiful it is. Pádraig made himself available to us the entire weekend and was kind enough to give us a lift to our venue. Fantastic local knowledge which we used for an unprompted (6hr) walk on our way home. While the location and the house our amazing, it's Pádraig who really makes it special. I can't thank him enough for his kindness over the weekend.

  • RathBan Cottage is a lovely place to escape to. Its clean, comfortable and spacious and has everything you need to make it a home away from home. Padraig (and his dad) are on hand and very helpful to answer any questions and give local tips for walking in the area. Its about 10min drive to Tinahely so great for all the walking routes in the area and food and drinks. Would definitely recommend the cottage and cant wait to visit again!

  • Loved our stay at Margaret’s BnB! She has a quick response time and it was a breeze to check in. She Pointed us to some local restaurants, and provides a generous breakfast (extra charge- worth it). Excellent place to stay!!

  • A lovely place to stay when walking the Wicklow Way. Margaret picked us up from Tinahely which was superb as we were quite tired.

  • Excellent location; most beautiful views. We enjoyed witnessing the milking (and the cows walking past the cottage!). Margaret was very helpful and recommended places in nearby town for dinner. Breakfast available for extra. Would definitely return!

  • Margaret’s cottage is a beautiful place. Views are magical! Margaret is a very warm person and we felt very welcome. We could ask her anything and she was always there to help. There were fresh muffins and cake awaiting us in the cottage ;-) Walking route starts right at the premises. We can really recommend this cottage!

  • Great hideaway.... lovely welcome and great stove... Will defo be back...

    Leesa2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Thomas and Rita’s cottage is lovely and cosy and just what the doctor ordered. Surrounded by rolling pastures and beautiful scenery, it’s a great escape to the country while being less than an hour and a half from Dublin. We loved the stylish but cosy decor and the stove, which had been set for us before we arrived. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking, and the beds are very comfortable. Towels and bed linens were all provided, and Thomas and Rita also left us plenty of firewood. Check in and out was very simple, with the keys in a lock box when we arrived, and there’s plenty of space for parking. A lovely trip, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

    Jenny2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is lovely and cosy (a little smaller than it looks in the photos but very comfortable). Check in was really easy and our host Thomas was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. Location is beautiful and very peaceful but you need to have a car as it is rural. Lots of lovely walks nearby, we spent a couple of hours in Tomnafinnoge Woods which is nearby. Great stay!

    Lucy2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage, can't fault it at all.

  • What a lovely stay at Thomas and Ritas - check in and out was really simple, Rita sent us on the details for the lock box. House is beautiful - we were provided with plenty of logs to keep the fire going which was needed as the weather was extremely cold!

    Mikey2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage. We really enjoyed our stay. As a family with a dog and an 11month old baby the cottage was well equipped. Just a short drive from local pubs and shops with plenty to see and do. Rita & Thomas are exceptional hosts and are always available. Would definitely return.

  • We had such a cosy 2 nights in the Cloch Cottage. Thomas and Rita were great in providing directions and instructions for us which was helpful on the country roads. They made sure to have the fire lighting when we got there, which was a lovely touch. The kitchen is pretty well stocked with pots, pans, dish etc. We had no plans for what to do over the weekend but the little guide left for us gave us everything we needed, listing the local sights on offer and how far away they are.

  • This house is just the most loving space ever. From all the details of the interior to the fantastic view, we couldn't have chosen a better home. Julia is extremely friendly and very attentive. He gave us tips to go to the Pub that was in the small village and have breakfast in an existing café there, and it could not have been more satisfactory. If I get the chance, I will definitely be back !!

  • The perfect escape! My trip was a last minute decision to escape the city. The last minute nature of my trip was met with vey quick responses from Linda, which was so helpful. I wanted a quiet, relaxing space with nice scenery in which to work and write. Kilpipe Cottage delivered on all of the above. Surrounded by beautiful scenery, the space was warm, very well presented, with all of the facilities you could want for your stay. For me, it was the perfect working space, with reliable WiFi and a space to work. Unfortunately, I did not have much opportunity to get out and explore the area, but am very much looking forward to returning to Kilpipe Cottage for leisure purposes. Highly recommend this place!

  • Wow. This place is just wonderful! We booked at last minute when our other accom fell through, on our New Years holiday from Aus. Ed is a great host and is responsive to all questions, even giving us tips on the villages we travel through on the way to the property. We arrived and were very warmly greeted by a local who gave us a great run down of the house and the local village. This was a highlight, Karen was so wonderful! The location - wow. This village is fantastic. It is the perfect base for exploring county Carlow and Wicklow. We spend a lot of time hiking the region and this village was a perfect base! Especially if you’re hiking in Wicklow. The house is centrally located in the village - literally 30 second walk to a supermarket, takeaways and two great pubs. This is a huge plus. The beds were comfortable, the linen smelled homely and fresh, and the house was cosy and warm. Big kitchen that’s fully equipped, central heating, big loungeroom, and plenty of info on the surrounding area. Great place and will happily come back to stay, and bring my family! Thanks for having us, Ed.

  • The cottage was lovely and homely. Location is perfect for those looking to get out and about walking with the Wicklow way on your doorstep. Peter was a welcoming host and even had homemade bread and marmalade ready for our arrival. Peter recommend a lovely restaurant in the nearby town of Clonegal called Sha-Roe and it did not disappoint.

  • My sister and I booked Peter's cottage for a weekend retreat from the city and left after two nights feeling completely relaxed and rejuvenated! My dog accompanied us and became fast friends with Peter's cocker spaniel, Borris. The cottage is a delight, wonderfully cosy and atmospheric with a wood-burning stove, exposed rafters and lots of homey touches. Peter's home-baked brown bread, home-made maramalade and farm-fresh eggs made for a delicious breakfast. He met us for check-in and was available to us via phone or in person for any questions that we had. He provided us with fantastic local recommendations for walks and the house is well kitted out with maps, books and DVDs. We loved our weekend here and would recommend a visit to anyone looking for a quiet and relaxing country retreat.

  • Peter’s cottage was charming, historical and peaceful. Everything about our stay was relaxing and laidback - we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful or serene location. The wood burning stove was especially lovely, as was the freshly baked bread that Peter made for us shortly after our arrival. Peter took care to give us some tips about the local area which was much appreciated. Wish we could have stayed longer.

  • Fabulous old property in a pretty setting. We appreciated the thoughtful extras like fresh flowers and the stocked drinks trolley. Lovely warming fire lit to welcome us which, our Spaniel very much enjoyed lazing in front of. Peter recommend some lovely walks and a super restaurant. He also made a delicious dinner for us when we arrived - a real treat. Would not hesitate to recommend

  • From the moment we made contact with the host, we were made to feel more than welcome to spend time at the beautiful cottage. To say Peter is a super host is an understatement. Set high in the Wicklow Mountains on the edge of the National Park, Far Pavilion is a romantic studio space with panoramic views overlooking Glenmalure, the longest glacial valley in Ireland. This is a wonderful place to unwind and relax, to watch how the light falls on the landscape or stare at the unpolluted starry sky and then, refreshed, to explore and meet the unexpected.
The Space The accommodation is a handcrafted log-style studio, open plan with a fully equipped kitchen, dining table, living space, sleeping area and separate bathroom (shower and bath). Guests can lie in the king size bed and gaze at the mountain on the opposite side of the valley. Heating is from infrared wall panels fitted with thermostat and timer. Guest Access Far Pavilion is adjacent to the host's house but entirely separate and guests have full private access apart from, maybe, a nosy horse, daring deer at dusk and dawn, a fox or an Irish hare if you are lucky and occasionally a herd of marauding wild goats! A car is essential and the cabin is approached up a rough track from the steep tarmacked laneway off the Greenane to Glenmalure road. Parking outside. Outdoor shoes/boots a must. Binoculars a good idea.
The area is renowned for hill-walking. The Wicklow Way passes by the Glenmalure Lodge: the hub of the community and local pub with its friendly welcome, good food and great atmosphere. Glendalough with its monastic site and lake is 15 mins by car. Rathdrum (7km) has a supermarket, Post Office and train station. Wooded walks in Avondale Forest Park, Clara Vale & Deputy's Pass. On the coast, Wicklow Town and Arklow are each 30/35 mins drive with the fabulous sandy beach of Brittas Bay in between. Wicklow Gaol, Avoca Handweavers & Mill, Greenane Maze, Mount Usher Gardens and Kilmacurragh are popular too with many more interesting places to explore within easy reach. At certain times of the year, the treat that is Bosca Beatha, the mobile sauna on the banks of the Avonbeg river in the field below the Glenmalure Lodge, is quite an experience with the brave plunging into the river afterwards followed by a restorative pint in the pub!
  • This property is unbelievable. Stylish, cosy and fully equipped. Amazing views, waking up to the mountains and wandering sheep was so cool :) Anne was very attentive, easy to contact and helpful. Would 100% recommend this property to explore Wicklow 😃

  • The Far Pavillion is just magical! Such a wonderful little retreat and Anne really has thought of everything! There's loads of fantastic little touches and the design and amenities are fab. We booked our stay on the same weekend as Storm Ciara and we saw all 4 seasons in one wknd, we were treated to a blanket of snow on our last morning, the scenery is stunning! The cabin is so comfy, cozy and welcoming, we loved it! Thank you, Anne!

  • What's not to love about Far Pavilion! It is exactly as described and better in reality. Such a unique setting with beautiful views and easy access to the Wicklow mountains. Our host Anne was an excellent communicator, went above and beyond with hospitality leaving breakfast bits, wine and snacks for us as well as offering us local walking tips at our request. We really had to tear ourselves away at the end of our trip. Highly recommend!

Get away from it all ! This is the real thing - an amazing Irish holiday cottage deep in the Wicklow Mountains yet only an hour from Dublin. "Beautifully restored" said the Daily Telegraph newspaper. Ideal for climbing Lugnaquilla mountain this is a perfect way of discovering the real Ireland. The Sunday Business Post said "A beautiful, traditional Irish cottage tucked away in a forested valley in the Wicklow Mountains, the 19th century Aughavannagh Cottage is lovingly restored with all mod cons. Located at the mid-way point of the Wicklow Way, it is an ideal base to explore nearby glens, old military roads, pilgrim trails and remote mountain routes - Glendalough and Brittas Bay beach are only half an hour away'. You have the whole cottage and spacious private grounds to yourself. The cottage comprises 4 bedrooms sleeping up to 7. There are 2 beautiful double bedrooms upstairs both with great views and sharing a pretty shower room and w.c. Downstairs there is a large twin room and a single bedroom both sharing a bathroom with bath, power shower and w.c. The magnificent kitchen is fully equipped with every modern convenience - electric oven and hob, fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher and everything an enthusiastic cook would need. The cosy sitting room comes complete with open fire, TV, iPod docking station, library of books and board games. The entire house is tastefully decorated in cool traditional creams and off-whites and provides a haven for rest and relaxation or a base for an activity break. Tranquility and peace and yet so easily accessible - it's hard to believe that the vibrant city of Dublin is only an hour away! Please bear in mind that this is a remote, rural location without many local facilities. The great pub is 10 minutes drive, the village 15. However - it is very beautiful!
Aughavannagh Cottage is set in a dramatic mountain landscape with fabulous views. Perfect for hiking, mountain climbing, hill walking and enjoying the outdoors. There are pretty villages and welcoming pubs and restaurants nearby including Aughrim - our favourite. Woods and streams, deep glens and high mountains provide the perfect backdrop in which to discover the real Ireland. The beautiful valley of Glendalough is 20 minutes away and the lovely blue flag beach at Brittas Bay is half an hour down the valley. The cottage is situated in a peaceful wooded glen at the foot of Luqnaquilla, Wicklow's highest mountain, which rises to 1000 metres behind the cottage. In the local area there is golf, hill walking, mountain climbing, fishing, sailing and blue flag beaches. The cosmopolitan and vibrant city of Dublin is a little over an hour away.

  • Beautiful quiet location. Wonderful place to get away from it all and explore the amazing Wicklow countryside.

    Gabi2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We have stayed at David's cottage for the weekend. The house is situated in a lovely location, best for a weekend outside the city. There is no network coverage and no noise at all so you can just sit, relax and live... The cottage itself is lovely, furnished with the taste and ready to accommodate few people. Kitchen is fully equipment and there is everything you need. The only thing that has let us down this weekend was the weather, (it was raining all the time and was very windy), but in this house you can just sit and chat with your friends forever :)

  • Beautiful house in quiet area. Close to shops of Baltinglass. Spacious and neat and homely. Highly recommended.

  • We rented Ellen’s home for our family of 5, for a long weekend. The location and views are fantastic. The home is clean, beds super comfortable, and Ellen’s little touches like wine and breakfast were the icing on the cake.

  • We recommend, great ....

  • Ellen's enchanting home on a hill that overlooks a pastoral setting. It is perfect for accessing the Wicklow Mountains. Baltinglass is a beautiful village. Sometimes, it is great just being some place watching people go about their lives, it makes you appreciate how beautiful people are and it makes the world feel smaller. Tell Ellen about your interests, she can really read people: Her suggestions regarding places to visit locally were excellent: "Duckett's Grove", Altamont Gardens and Community Cafe. I wish that I had stayed longer. Ellen's home and the surrounding area were my first experiences with Ireland--I will always cherish this memory.

  • Wow. Absolutely outstanding in every aspect. Ellen is the best host I have ever stayed with!! She gave tons of recommendations on activities and places to go during our stay, each of which was amazing. She even cooked a delicious Irish breakfast one morning! The house is amazing and feels so homey and warm. The space is vibrant with tasteful updates and renovations. If you are looking for a lovely weekend at an affordable price in a cozy home, stay with Ellen!!

  • Ellen's house is beautiful and amazing, set in a scenic and quiet location in the countryside, and her hospitality is generous and warm hearted.

Cosy rustic cottage nestling in Moyne on the Wicklow Way. Stunning views of the majestic Lugnaquilla. Enjoy your own acre of the garden of Ireland. Log fires and that " far from the madding crowd" feeling. This cottage is special. Lovely vibe here and so peaceful. Sleep quality is profound.
Enchanting pond with water cascading feature.
  • Unbelievable cottage, right in the middle of nowhere, that was exactly what we’re looking for! Fantastic weekend there! We brought our babies (dogs) they loved as well! If you’re trying to escape from the city, that’s the right place to go! We’ll be back for sure. We loved!!! ❤️ Jenny & Leo

  • So peaceful and beautiful. We will definetly be back . Loved it.

  • Our stay at Flo's place was great - very relaxing, and lots of nice touches on arrival. The house and surrounding area is beautiful, very isolated but very quiet and exactly what we were looking for.

    Holly2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cosy peaceful cottage in the Mountains, if you like that sort of thing, which you should.

    Patrick2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • We got a very warm welcome at the cottage! Flo showed us around and explained everything, she even took time to let the children fill the bird feeders for in the garden. There is a big garden to explore for kids and to relax for us. The view is wonderful, to be admired as well from the garden as sitting inside at the kitchen table or in the living room. The cottage has a great atmosphere is nicely decorated and really comfortable for a family. With details that make you feel at home (e.g. luxury soap, candles, a refrigerator with some groceries but also a little bench at the entrance to take of your dirty walking boots;) The kitchen has everything you need to prepare meals. The bathroom is spacious with shower and bath. The living room is really a place to relax ("to chill" as the kids said). The cottage has quiet surroundings with cows as neighbors. We enjoyed the peace of the place. It took us at least 20 minutes by car to go to places of our interest. We walked in the woods near Avondale House and at Glendalough (Spinc 9 km, day walk for our family with 4 and 6 year old). Very beautiful! On a rainy day the kids enjoyed themselves at Tinahely Farm.

  • We have been to Flos beautiful cottage a few times in the last two years. Our four dogs absolutely love the huge garden. So quiet here, lovely to switch off from the every day hustle and bustle.

  • #No 1 PET FRIENDLY ACCOMMODATION!! Host Flo warmingly greeted us on Day 1 of our 4-day stay at her charming 2 bedroom cottage. The house came with all amenities and equipment one could want; comfortable & cosy living accommodation, broadband, cable TV & Netflix!, all possible cookware & utensils and comfortable beds! We had our energetic JR terrier with us and she had oceans of space to explore in safety. Thoughtful Flo even had a bowl, towel and dog shampoo there for her! Great location to tour and view Co Wicklow. Lots of places we visited welcomed dogs and offered bowls of water while we dined al fresco. We shall return as 4 days wasn't enough to see all that Wicklow has to offer..

  • A pretty cottage, with a fantastic view. We spent here with 4 adults a wonderful week.

Aughrim, award winning village with country markets, close to Glendalough, Avoca, Wicklow Way, delightful walks, angling, a 70 minute drive to the Dublin. Captivating views, private entrance, car park, out door decking, peaceful garden.
A self contained appartment with private entrance. Kitchen/living area, double bedroom with ensuite. Extra single bed available on request. Beautiful outdoor seating and barbecue area. The kitchen is stocked with basics such as tea, coffee, milk , sugar etc.
Aughrim is nestled in the Wicklow hills with beautiful views. The village has a range of shops, and people are very friendly. There is a local fishing pond, golf course, coast and mountains all within easy reach. Convenient to Brooklodge Hotel and Ballybeg wedding venue. It is a perfect place to enjoy Wicklow and the east coast.
  • We had a fantastic stay in Mary's place. The accommodation was exceptionally clean and comfortable. The bedroom is huge but very cosy. Everything was perfect for our stay. Mary had left us tea, coffee, milk and lots of snacks, which was very welcome as we arrived late. The location is perfect for visiting many scenic places nearby such as Glendalough, Powerscourt Hotel, Avoca etc.

  • Highly recommended, we really enjoyed the stay

  • Communication with Mary was great. The place is in a nice and quiet location. It's clean and cosy. It had everything for my needs.

  • Thank you very much for staying in your home and for all the help received. I definitely recommend this site and if I go back I would love to stay in your home again.

    Stephanie2019-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • Mary is a lovely host. All our needs were met and the house is in a lovely quiet place just outside the village. Cosy bedroom, nice bathroom and the kitchen has all the basics for a few days.

    Mark2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was perfect. Will be back.

    Mohit2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely welcome from Mary & really enjoyed our three nights in the apartment. The kitchen has everything you might need with Mary providing a welcome pack of essentials to see you through the first night. The self-contained apartment was clean & warm; has a private fenced-in decked area with picnic table & lovely views to the mountains; a kitchen with hob & oven, an automatic washing machine, table & two chairs; shower room & spacious bedroom, but no chairs (so you do have to sit on the bed to relax & watch TV), whilst there's plenty of drive space outside to park your car. Aughrim village is approx 10 minute walk away to cafes, bars, shops & small supermarkets. It's a good location to reach Wicklow town, the mountains & coast with Dublin less than an hour away, so perfect for reaching the airport. The apartment is attached to Mary's home so there are the sounds of their life filtering through the walls & from the rooms above, whilst dogs in the next doors garden do bark. However, we certainly have no complaints & would recommend the accommodation as a great value place to stay.

    Nancy2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Absolute great experience at Mary and John’s! Lovely people with a beautiful space and stunning view perfect for exploring the mountains! Lots of great touches to make our stay so much better and easier. Would love to come stay again on our next trip to Ireland from Canada!

At the foot of Lugnaquilla Mountain, Aghavannagh Barracks offers a unique base for walking in the Wicklow hills or relaxing by the fire. The house has been carefully restored over the last seven years, with comforts such as log burners and original style shutters. There are beautiful formal gardens and mountains to look out upon from the six windows in the bedroom. It is the perfect place for a weekend getaway and worth spending two nights here to fully appreciate the quietness and the space.
Aghavannagh Barracks is a unique place to stay being the only Barracks on the Military Road with original layout and features. Once the shooting lodge of Charles Stuart Parnell it is now a comfortable family home. We are 1.5 km from the Iron Bridge on the Wicklow Way. It is worth noting for guests walking the Wicklow Way that there is nowhere to eat within walking distance and they must bring their own ready made food.
Aghavannagh is a very peaceful location, the perfect get away from busy cities. Ideal for relaxing in front of the fire with a good book. We are 25 minutes from Glendalough and a 90 minute drive from Dublin. There are many gardens near us also, Powerscourt, Mount Usher, Kilmacurragh and Altamont to name a few.
  • The most beautiful b & b I have seen in my life, Veronica's welcome and care are perfect, the room is huge with huge windows offering a view of the front and rear courtyard. Homemade lunch is delicious. The fireplace in the bedroom gives a cozy atmosphere, conducive to reading and relaxation. We almost felt like royalty for one night :)

    Maria2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely Airbnb, in a stunning location, beautiful views and very quiet. Had a beautiful breakfast the morning with homemade bread and granola. Would recommend!

    Emma2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • This was the highlight of our weeklong stay in Ireland. This home is an absolute must see thanks to Veronica. If we could go back we would have added much more time to staying here! I kept telling my husband I felt like we were in a dream. You wake up to a beautiful, homemade breakfast overlooking the Wicklow mountains, the bed is so comfortable and while there are modern touches to the home (endless hot water for that amazing tub, towel warmer) you feel it’s history. It’s so romantic and Veronica was so kind and welcoming. She has. great tips for the local area. DO NOT miss this stay!! I am already trying to figure out when we can make it back!

    Julia2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful house in great surroundings with very nice hosts.

    Stephan2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful, two large rooms, one for breakfast, one for sleeping. Scenic views from all windows. Historic location tastefully restored.

    Norman2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Stunning location, beautiful home and outstanding hospitality. Veronicas home is the perfect place to get away from it all whilst being close to lots of great amenities. We had a really special weekend there and cannot recommend more to anyone else thinking of staying. Book here!

This room has two single beds and looks out onto family garden. It is down a flight of stairs as you come in through main entrance. It has hanging space table and chair, there is also a kettle and toaster in your room. Breakfast is served in small breakfast room upstairs and over looks garden and when it's not too misty there's a nice view of Croghan mountain beyond. Breakfast is self service but I'm mostly always on hand if you need any help. You can also take a tray into your room if you so wish. Your breakfast is continental and consists of tea/coffee, cereal toast with preserves. Your bathroom is upstairs and is shared with other house guests. There is also a second toilet downstairs and this one is next to your room and is also shared. We are a 10min walk from the centre of the village from which we have a small hotel a couple of pubs, shops, chemist, there is also a small restaurant, a Chinese takeaway plus Italian takeaway. Aughrim is a small village. We have a selection of good forest walks all within easy access and walking distance from our house. There is also a fishing lake in the village and on sat morning we have a farmers market here from where you can get fresh produce. This is also a good area for cycling and we have famous golfing course. We are 20mins drive from the coast and 30mins drive from Glendalough and National Park, and for the hill walkers we are approx. 3km. From Wicklow way. Unfortunately we don't have any public transport but we do have a good taxi service. We are 5mins drive from Brooklodge and 10mins drive away from Ballybeg wedding venue. We have a family television room and free wifi. We will do all that we can to make your stay as pleasant as possible.
  • Only dubs would recognise the quick wit and authenticity of a northsider. I recognised it immediately.

  • Cleaning, precision and availability. The least, but that is not easy is obvious to find in Ireland

    Francesco2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place.

    Jerzy2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Anne was so friendly and welcoming. Room was spotless clean, beds very comfortable and the house was nice and quiet.

    Philip2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful space, clean and well appointed. Anne does a great job of looking after you.

    Bryan2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • I made a mistake in my travel planning and arrived a day earlier than planned. Anne offered me a room immediately and uncomplicated. The rooms, shower, etc. were very clean and I immediately felt comfortable. There is a great breakfast with great views towards the Wicklow Mountains. For small money one is also driven to the next town and tips for bus trips, there are also hiking tours. Aughrim itself is a nice little town without much tourism and you are a part of life there. The people are friendly and you are in the pub directly into conversation. Tip: On Thursdays traditional Irish live music is always played. Highly recommended! The accommodation at Anne is highly recommended and I will gladly come back on my next trip.

    Sergej2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Anne and her husband were great hosts, giving us a warm stay. The commodities were exactly as expressed, the breakfast was complete with a nice view to the backyard and the surrounding mountains. :)

    Mauro2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • One of the nicest places I have been staying in all my goes and comings. It's a luxury not to be paid with money to meet Anne, her hospitality and feel the real irish taste at Aughrim. Lovely place and even lovely person!
