Places to stay in Gunnerside
Make yourself at home in this spacious en-suite double room with stunning views of Swaledale. Nestled in the peaceful picturesque village of Gunnerside, you can start many beautiful walks (from gentle strolls to hikes) from the doorstep. Guests are welcome to use the kitchen and to enjoy the beautiful scenery from the garden. There is a cosy café and friendly local pub with good food just a few minutes by foot. Within a short drive are Reeth and Hawes (to visit the Wensleydale Creamery).
This is a quite rural village with a pub called the Kings Head (which is closed for now on a Monday night). There and two cafes with friendly staff. I like living here because you can step out the door for a lovely scenic with out bothering with the car. Unfortunately the Kings Head has closed, nearest pub is at Muker
  • Comfortable room with good view, I had no agenda except to rest and I definitely had a good rest this visit. The shower is very powerful! Only a few steps from the pub and access to lovely parts of Yorkshire, I was very happy here.

  • Amazing and very friendly host with a lovely house, plenty of room and very hospitable. Incredible views of the rolling hills too, which is a bonus to wake up to! The house is very clean, tidy and quiet. Vivien is very helpful with local information, especially if you don't know too much about the area. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would definitely stop there again!

  • Vivien's place was just what we needed to explore the Dales. The room itself was private, clean, roomy and we were free to come and go as we pleased. Vivien herself was very friendly and easy to contact for recommendations. Fantastic stay.

  • We've enjoyed our stay at Vivien's. it was very clean and spacious room with an amazing private shower and comfy bed.

  • Is in remote place, with good view.

  • Vivien's home is in a lovely little village, situated close to all sorts of sights to see including plenty of waterfalls. Muker, another nearby village, is only a 15 minute drive down the road where we stopped to eat in the Farmers Arms pub (highly recommend). Vivien was friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much hassle. The room was clean and cosy. She even put a heated blanket on our bed, because we were chilly! We had a Scrabble board in the room which was a nice little bonus! The breakfast was nice too, simple continental breakfast; cereal, toast and tea/coffee which we could help ourselves to. I would highly recommend!

    Joe2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Vivien is a very lovely lady who made us feel like being at home. The village is very sweet and the walks and landscape around are just stunning!

  • It is a cosy cottage in a beautiful setting. Very chilled and it certainly feels a bit off the grid if that’s what you are after. Lots of lovely walks, fresh air and pubs .

  • Great little cottage. Has lots of amenities with a small but well stocked kitchen. Loved the fire on the cold December days. Ideal location for exploring the Yorkshire Dales. We had a great few days at Lupin Cottage and really felt relaxed. We will be back.

  • If you want a cosy place with a good fire in a peaceful location surrounded by beautiful walking country then this is the place. Ruth was super helpful and attended to everything quickly. The house has guidebooks and games, good wifi and a small but perfectly functional kitchen. Ideal for us (family of four). Slept like logs. The village has no pub or shop (in case you arrive late) but there are good places in the surrounding villages. A good big walk is up Gunnerside Beck. A good smaller one is from Hawes to Hardraw Force. Thanks Ruth, we had a great time!

    Matthew2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage (with the cutest kitchen) in an exceptional location. So many options for walks/runs/cycles just outside the front door - highly recommended.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the location was beautiful. We hope to be back in the future.

    Cathryn2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • We have had such a lovely, peaceful stay. We walked miles out in beautiful countryside starting from our front door, ate a hearty pub lunch just down the road in Reeth, enjoyed the coal burning stove on crisp Autumn evenings and got away from it all being out of WiFi and mobile reception range - EXACTLY what we needed! Lots of thoughtful touches including books, dvds and CDs, games for the kids and grown ups and a very well equipped kitchen. Many thanks and hope to come again!

    Felicia2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Ideal cottage for a waking and mountain biking holiday. The walks and bike rides in the area are fantastic. The scenery is breathtaking combined with the mining landscape makes it a perfect place to explore. Sitting room has a stone floor and coal fire and was invaluable for drying out wet clothes and boots. Local amenities in the village good. However slightly disappointed that the the village pub is closed and for sale. The one in Mucker is not far and the food is very tasty. Would recommend this cottage and area.

    Sarah2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Had a very comfortable stay at Pretoria Cottage and enjoyed some glorious weather to explore the surrounding countryside.

    Julie2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • A very nice place with a nice feeling to it. The accommodation is compact and has all the things you’ll need for a few days stay. I would highly recommend it! The village itself is beautiful with much walking to be had. The pub is friendly and the beer is well kept. They do a very nice fish and chips too! If, like us, you want to get away from all the rush and noice of the world then this is an excellent place to be. We had no internet and no 3G at all and it was lovely. Though they tell me that ee does work in the area, so pick up a SIM card if you need to before arriving.

    Pete2019-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • The location is very peaceful and the cottage is a lovely get away. It is just right for two people. There are 2 mini walks right close to the cottage we did in the evenings. There are lots of longer walks within 40 minutes drive away. On the practical side, we followed the advice from other people's reviews and bought an EE Sim to get some mobile coverage, which turned out to be a little patchy with a 'G' at the cottage. The local cafe has wifi and is good for sitting out when it is open. We went to Hawes for food shopping which is about 30 mins drive and there is a SPAR with basic necessities and nice bread.

    Shui2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage in a gorgeous scenic and peaceful location, cosy log burner and a comfy bed, would love to return!

    Fran2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • A comfy, warm, cozy cottage. Great to come back to after wet and windy walks

    Elaine2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • This is our second stay in Burnside Cottage and it didn’t disappoint. We love the cottage - plenty big enough for our family of five and each room very cozy. Everything about the stay was great. Can’t wait to visit Burnside Cottage and Swaledale again soon.

    Don2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, spacious cottage with all the mod cons needed. Bed was comfy, the area nice and quiet and it was a great base for exploring the Dales. Most likely due to the time of year but there were a significant number of spiders lurking. There were a couple staples in the cupboard but no significant welcome pack, which would have added a nice touch after a long drive. The shower was lovely, hot and powerful and there was a deep bath to soak in. Overall we were very pleased with our stay and would stay again.

    Anneliese2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Burnside is the perfect cosy cottage for a holiday in Swaledale. Beautiful old stone cottage in a beautiful village. Heaps of character. Very clean. Heating warms the whole place up within minutes. The log burning stove also lovely to keep cosy. Kitchen and bathroom modern and well fitted. Wifi worked well to make up for the general lack of mobile signal in Swaledale. Well worth a visit.

    James2019-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly as per the description. The cottage is very comfortable and excellent shower and bath facilities. A well fitted and sit in kitchen. Sparkling clean and firewood provided. The locals are so friendly and the cottage is directly opposite the pub which serves great beer and good food.

  • Great location for photographers, walkers and wildlife watchers.

  • The photos don’t do this place justice really. It was perfect for our New Years get away and Graeme was very helpful and communicative. There were 5 of us and it felt both cosy and spacious, loved getting the stove going.

  • Christmas Cottage was a brilliant base for exploring the area. Plenty of room, especially nice to have a big kitchen in a holiday cottage. The kitchen had everything you could need for cooking or baking, but there is also a great pub across the road that does huge traditional pub meals! There are plenty of walks straight out the front door so no need to drive elsewhere to walk. The only thing I would say is to make sure you bring an extra jumper to sleep in if staying in winter as it can get very chilly, but the wood burner downstairs made the sitting room very cosy! Will definitely be coming back in summer sometime, and would really recommmend.

    Eleanor2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • A great cosy well equiped cottage centrally located in village with a handy pub and set within beautiful countryside .

  • A very clean cosy cottage with all the basics needed for a stay away from home - washing up liquid, dish washer tablets, washing machine soap, paper towels, loo rolls, oil, salt and pepper, tea, coffee and sugar! The fire starter pack was more generous than other cottages we've stayed on and wood burner was really effective. Lovely comfortable settee and chairs in the lounge and comfortable beds upstairs. We would really recommend a stay at this cottage.

    Vicki2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Christmas Cottage is comfortable, warm, clean and well equipped. The hosts are close by kind and helpful. Ideally situated for exploring Swaledale (direct from the doorstep) and further afield - so worth a visit!

  • I was very impressed and had a fantastic weekend walking the beautiful dales by day and enjoying the log fire in the evening (plenty of wood provided, one of many thoughtful touches) - it really is bliss. The cottage is very well set up for guests with various board games, books & DVD’s, it was sparkling clean and very cozy in a lovely village with lots of walks in all directions (plus cafes and soon to be open pub!) Ruth has put a lot of thought and effort into creating a fantastic Airbnb, you’ll feel right at home!

Built in 1800, Corner Cottage is in Carperby in the heart of Wensleydale. It is decorated in muted tones and retains key period features, including flagstone and wooden floors; deep window recesses; window seats; a traditional stone larder (which serves as the utility and boot room); and a large stone fireplace with wood burning stove.
An internal porch leads into the kitchen, including a dining area, and to the pantry, then to the living room. Most rooms have wooden shuttered windows. Upstairs, the house bathroom has a roll-top bath and separate shower. The master bedroom is en-suite, with a king-sized bed; and the double bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe. Both rooms and the en-suite have lovely views across to Penhill. The third bedroom – small but beautifully appointed – is ideal for a child or an adult up to 5’ 4” tall. There is a small lobby at the bottom of the stairs, with a back door to the walled garden. The garden – at its most spectacular in June and July – has outdoor seating and a table on the patio, a lawn and two further seating areas. You’re welcome to pick flowers and herbs. A garage, useful for storing bikes, houses a parasol and two barbecues. The cottage is very well-equipped, especially for cooks, including a dishwasher and food processor. Finally, Corner Cottage is an old house. It has 200 year-old features that include a flagstone staircase, so may not be suitable for unsupervised tinies. It also fronts straight onto the road through Carperby, so care must be taken when leaving and entering the house.
Carperby’s existence pre-dates the Norman Conquest. It’s a quiet and friendly village, which hosts concerts and gigs in the Village Institute and an ‘open gardens’ event in July. The pub – The Wheatsheaf Inn – is a real hub of village life which offers great food and friendly service. It also hosted the author of the James Herriot series of novels (on which the television series was based) during his honeymoon.

  • Briar Mede is an extremely well equipped, cosy cottage located in Gunnerside, within walking distance of the village pub (recently re-opened) where we had a pint and a good meal. The local walks are wonderful, and the cottage is warm and cosy to return to, which was especially welcome as we had chosen a very wet weekend for our short break. Overall, a great cottage which I'd hugely recommend to anyone who loves a peaceful, village retreat.

    Daniele2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Briar Mede surpassed our expectations. Very well equipped, warm, cosy and extremely comfortable. Well suited to walkers and dog owners with the footpath steps from the door. Lots of local walks and beautiful countryside. There was nothing more we could have wanted. Thanks for a great stay and we'll be back to do the remaining walks!

  • What a great cottage - the area is stunning, the views are stunning, the garden is great (even at the start of October!). I grew up around 40 minutes from the area and following our wedding my partner and I wanted an escape with our dogs for a few days - this was just perfect. Loads of great walks on the doorstep, great food at many locations within 10 minutes and the cottage itself is very well appointed. We would not hesitate in returning in the future!

  • Well equipped and a great place for exploring swaledale

    John2019-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • I can recommend both Gunnerside and Briar Mede. The property is very quiet being at the end of a short lane and the private south facing walled garden with its lovely views is a real selling point in the summer. If you like walking there are lots of circular walks you can take from the door.

    Dawn2019-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely mid week break at the cottage. It is in a pretty village, literally a minute to the pub which had decent food and we were made to feel very welcome! The cottage itself had everything we needed and the most wonderful views from the front door. Also lots of really good walks right from the doorstep. We would highly recommended this cottage!

  • Country cottage in the middle of a small village up in the moores. Has everything you need and loads of little touches (Wine, store cupboard, fire wood etc.) Perfect little quirky cottage, the log burner was ideal after a freezing swim in the river.

  • A delightful and cosy miner's cottage in a lovely situation above the village. We had a great week with lots of walks. Parking on the green is very easy. The local pub has recently shut and is up for sale. And the local Bistro no longer serves in the evening so the Farmers Arms in Muker is the nearest place to eat out now. Hopefully the pub will reopen. Our dogs loved the week and we will be back!

Nettlebed has stunning views overlooking Swaledale, in the Yorkshire Dales and is a charming old cottage with plenty of atmosphere, charm and comfort. A large enclosed garden is perfect for dogs (welcome at no extra charge) and the house is a detached cottage with no neighbours, reached along a single track road, welcoming 6 people, with extra beds for kids. Nettlebed is ideal for guests wanting a holiday to get away from the cares of working life and an ideal place to recharge your batteries!
With stunning views over the River Swale and down the dale, Nettlebed is a homely cottage with a quirky old-fashioned atmosphere (and Grade 2 listed). A detached house in a rural countryside setting, the house is nevertheless not far from the villages of Low Row and Gunnerside. Wonderfully comfortable, with an open fire in a feature fireplace (all coal included), it oozes character and charm with its flagged floors and 300-year-old beams (and lovely piano!). The cottage is tastefully decorated, with many paintings and artefacts, and perches on the hillside above Swaledale, with a panoramic vista spread out below. The kitchen is newly revamped (Jan 2018), while retaining its Dales character. Approach Nettlebed with a spirit of adventure and you won't be disappointed! Spend your days out on the surrounding hills, soak up the sun in the lovely south-facing garden or snuggle up inside relaxing in front of the fire. Nettlebed is the perfect cottage for a holiday in beautiful Swaledale!
Nettlebed is found in absolutely amazing scenery, in upper Swaledale, the most northerly of the Yorkshire Dales, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The walking is superb, with many footpaths nearby, including a great walk up Gunnerside Ghyll, past the old lead mine workings, and both the Pennine Way and the Coast to Coast walk. Cyclists are also well served, as the route of the 2014 Tour de France Grand Depart came over the Buttertubs, near Thwaite and down through Swaledale. Or you can just relax and explore the tiny villages and market towns, or even just sit in the garden and admire the grand views. Whatever you want to do, Nettlebed is perfect.
  • A brilliantly cosy cottage - from the traditional fireplaces, to the Rayburn oven, to the stacks of board games and books, Nettlebed is a perfect place to get away from it all. The views outside the front door are stunning, and from the cottage you can walk straight out for a hike around Swaledale. It’s remote - which is exactly what we were looking for (though worth noting that the track up to the cottage itself is a little tricky in damp weather!) but there are pubs and shops around 15 minutes’ drive away, and a range of sights and attractions about half an hour away. With the heating on and a fire going it was perfectly cosy for January (though a pair of warm slippers is highly recommended - and make sure to close the internal doors and curtains to keep the heat in). Don’t expect high end luxury - but do expect all the amenities you could need in the kitchen and around the house, making it a very easy place to stay.

    Katie2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely old cottage in a tranquil location with stunning views down into the Swale valley. Comfortable stylish rooms and a fantastic roaring log fire. Great for walking holidays or just relaxing, enjoying the scenery and visiting local villages and towns. We went for Christmas and bought some local produce from a butcher in Richmond, haven't tasted meat that good for ages. Home cured bacon was delicious. The dales are spectacular to drive through, with waterfalls, steep hills and remote cottages.

    Justin2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Nettlebed is out of the ordinary. Its vantage point is high up and exposed (it gives you a king of the castle – or cottage – feeling). We looked down in winter onto the wide, silvery river below and it took our breath away. It is a completely magnificent view. And while it is true that because it is on a hill, the house is exposed to the elements, you are – even when the winds are whistling outside – absolutely snug within thanks to a log fire, good heating and windows that miraculously do not rattle. The house is sympathetically decorated, personal and idiosyncratic with none of the horrid neutrality of many a rental property. There is art on the walls, mixed china in the cupboards, sheepskin rugs on the armchairs. And don't be put off by the idea that it might be too old fashioned, its kitchen is newly vamped with good ceramic hob as a jaunty companion piece to the Rayburn. We loved our stay in every possible way.

    Kate2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • A gorgeous cosy house in a spectacular setting. Lots of home touches like sheepskin rugs, lamps, pretty duck egg blue paintwork, a cheerful Rayburn and lots of lovely books . Dog friendly . Heaven .

  • Nettlebed is an absolute delight with the most amazing views over Swaledale. We loved the open fire and Rayburn - the cottage was so cosy. A great base for a walking holiday. Our only wish is that we could have stayed longer.

  • Such lovely accommodation with stunning views over the dale. The decor was tastefully done with very comfortable seating area by the cosy wood burner. The bedroom and shower room both gave a 5 star feeling, especially with the bath at the bottom of the bed - loved it! Everything was sparkling clean and well appointed with everything you could need to make your stay complete. Louise was a very welcoming host and also left a basket of some local goodies, along with supplies of tea/coffee/milk etc. I would definitely recommend a stay here, it's perfect base to return to after exploring the Dales. Thank you Louise for a wonderful stay.

  • We had a lovely (if a little wet) weekend at Billy Gills. Very clean, lovely little welcoming touches and a good location to explore part of the Yorkshire Dales. Storm Dennis tried to get in the way but the cottage was a lovely place to hunker down in with the wood burner and the guidebook was useful for ideas when the weather turned. (And Lousie was very helpful negotiating the flooded roads!) Would love to return when the weather is brighter.

The working fireplace makes the barn cosy in the evenings and the shower is amazing after a long walk! Terri was a super host, quick to respond and even left us fresh eggs and homemade bread when we arrived. Would definitely recommend the 2 mile walk across the fields to the local pub the Rose and Crown for a true Yorkshire experience!

The barn is gorgeous, we really enjoyed the snooker table and having a glass of wine in front of the roaring fire. Terri was a fantastic host, very accommodating and quick to reply. • What a lovely place for some respite from the Christmas festivities. The accommodation was beautiful and in such a striking part of Yorkshire which is great for R&R and walking. Good advice given by Terri on walking , things the do and places to eat. Terri was a great host and nothing was too much trouble for her, her kind personality shone through which made our stay away from home even better. The bread, eggs and milk are a great touch that was appreciated by ourselves and the cosy fire was just what was needed after a days walking, our dog appreciated the heat also !! Thanks again and we wouldn’t hesitate to book next time we visit Yorkshire, it was like a home from home .

  • Ow do? The Owl Barn is an outstanding place to stay, to unwind completely, and in my case, to also produce some original writing... which was very easy since the property is located in the most amazing, and peaceful Yorkshire Dales countryside. It snowed in the late afternoon when I arrived at the property. As soon as I unpacked my things I had to have the first of many walks from the Owl Barn, even though the Dales were darkening under the heavy snow shower, with night falling around me. There were large snowflakes floating past me as I tramped through the mud, but the landscape scenes around me at twilight were to die for - absolutely breathtaking and memorable! Which also describes Terri, the owner - not breathtaking, but memorable! Her welcome makes you feel you've known her for years, and she will do everything to make sure your stay is magical. You will devour the loaf of bread and her own hens' eggs she leaves you - they are absolutely delicious! Basically, what I am asking you to do... is definitely stay there! Enjoy the properties unique atmosphere, Terri's outstanding welcome, and have a wonderful, unforgettable time in the Yorkshire Dales. Peter

  • Fantastic stay. We were only there for a weekend but felt like home.

  • Superbly located within hiking range of more waterfalls than you can shake a stick at - a great position for walkers, with lots of room for boots and coats. An excellent little flat conversion, really warm and comfortable and very neatly put together. Great to come back to after a chilly winter's day walking. We filled out the 2020 RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch sat on the floor peering out the windows and got lots of sightings! Penny was an excellent host, very welcoming and helpful in every way. The local pub is three minutes walk and does very good food and drink.

    Jaimie2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Penny's place is perfect for exploring the Dale's. Everything we could have needed was provided (including her lovely home made bread), and the place was lovely and warm throughout our stay, as well as absolutely spotless. Very easy to find and Penny was always quick to reply to any messages. Couldn't recommend it more!

Farmendon is a lovely spacious cottage in Gunnerside, with a big, private rear garden (south-facing) and lovely views towards surrounding hills. The house has three bedrooms, a double, a single and the master bedroom can be superking or twin, with the same great views. All the rooms have antique furniture, lovingly polished by the owners and the living room is light and bright with a bay window. There is a dining room, downstairs cloakroom and upstairs bath/shower room. Dog-friendly, free wifi.
Farmendon has its own parking space for one car, with other free public parking 30m away. The kitchen is very well-equipped, with dishwasher and fridge/freezer and in the little outhouse there is a washing machine and tumble dryer, as well as a rotary airer for the patio. The dining room seats 5 people comfortably round the oak table and the living room has comfortable sofas and a rocking chair. The bedrooms are all good sizes, again with antique furniture and the bathroom has a separate large shower enclosure, and there is a separate WC, as well as downstairs cloakroom. The garden faces south and is private, with terrific views past the chapel to the hills. Ideal for walkers, Farmendon has lots of walks direct from the door, including up Gunnerside Ghyll, perfect for walking the dog. The King's Head pub is open again, welcomes dogs and is a stone's throw from the house. Farmendon welcomes dogs, has free wifi and is a fantastic house for a holiday in upper Swaledale, the most beautiful of the Yorkshire Dales.
Swaledale is the most northerly of the Yorkshire Dales, and possibly the most attractive. There are plenty of tearooms, pubs and little shops in charming market villages and towns such as Reeth, Hawes, Richmond and Leyburn. Swaledale was on the route of the 2014 Tour de France, so is great for serious cyclists, as well as walkers.

  • We had a lovely stay in beebole cottage, very cosy with a lovely log fire in a really picturesque setting. Anna could not have been more helpful too

    Martin2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Anna's place is a small cosy cottage in a tiny hamlet in the beautiful Yorkshire dales. The place is perfect for 2 and has everything you need. It's a 5 minute drive from wensleydale where you can go for some beautiful walks and visit the creamery. I'd highly recommend the green dragon pub next to the waterfall in Hardraw

    Ross2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is beautiful and has everything we could’ve needed. Anna’s visitor book has so many suggestions of things to do nearby and further away. The location is in a quiet area and very close to some fantastic views. We loved our stay and would highly recommend for those looking for a relaxing, quiet getaway!

    Nerkena2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy cottage with centuries of fascinating history and a great log burner. It is extreemly quiet and tranquil but not too far to drive to Hawes - a town where we found everyone we met to be friendly.

    John2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Beebole Cottage was everything we were hoping for and more. it was a little safe and comfortable haven, even when storm Ciara arrived. The living room is small but perfect and cosy and the log fire was such a treat. The kitchen is super well equipped and the bedroom is lovely with an excellent bed and mattress. It was so quiet as its on the ground floor so we couldn't even hear the rain. It's a beautiful location, a few minutes walk from Lake Semerwater and 10 minutes drive from Hawes. Anna was very reactive and answered us so quickly and helped us during the storm on Sunday. We were so grateful that Anna was so considerate and offered for us to stay over when the weather was dangerous. what a perfect host!

    Amanda2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Beebole Cottage is a wonderful couples’ hide-away in a particularly stunning area of England. It’s a great base for going walking - we loved going on the walks suggested in the books provided in the cottage - and also a great place to nest and relax with books, by the fire. The cottage had everything that we could possibly need too, making it the perfect accommodation for a mini-break for two!

    Sarah2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cottage perfect for two people. Set in a rural location with excellent walks and amenities close by in Hawes. Great communication from the owner. Everything was as we expected and cottage was very clean. If you're looking for a romantic getaway, cost nights in front of the log fire after looking around the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, this is definitely worth a stay.

There are some lovely little touches, and would highly recommend a breakfast (we had the cold option). We felt instantly welcome and the hit was already toastie warm from the log burner, which was welcome given the cold outside! Many thanks Melanie, hope to see you again some time soon, Chris and Rona.

  • Mike and Angela were fabulous hosts. The room and bathroom were beautiful and clean and well laid out. They offered lots of local tips and nothing was too much trouble. They lit the log burner in 'the snug' so it was warm for when I returned from my evening meal at the local pub. I loved the quirky bottles my fresh milk and fruit juice arrived in. A fantastic place to which I shall hope to return. Thank you.

Eating Emanuela's delicious homemade pizza with wine and those views was spetacular. They gave great suggestions for hiking in the area as well! We would love to stay with them again.

  • This is a gem of a property. The owners are very welcoming and have added many lovely touches to enhance your experience of staying there. The cabin is warm and cosy with a deck to sit on providing views across the valley of Swaledale. We accepted the offer of home made pizza in the evening which was well worth the extra charge and was delivered to our door with a glass of red wine. The passive showers work perfectly well as does the composting loo. We thoroughly recommend this place.

The village of Bainbridge is located on the A684 between Leyburn and Hawes, near the meeting of the river Bain with the River Ure. At around two and a half miles in length the River Bain is said to be the shortest river in England. Bainbridge is known for its expansive village green which has some fine examples of stocks. Stocks were abolished as a form of punishment in the United Kingdom in 1872. The Roman name for Bainbridge was Virosidum and the remains of a Roman Forte are located just east of Bainbridge, on the other side of the river, on Brough Hill, where various Roman remains have been found A local custom in Bainbridge is the sounding of an ancient horn which was once used to guide foresters and travellers safely to the village from the surrounding Wensleydale forests. The horn is still located at the Rose and Crown public house and is sounded every night at 10 pm from the Feast of Holy Rood (27 September) to Shove Tuesday. Bainbridge has a local inn (the Rose and Crown), a small village shop with post office, a local butcher, a garage selling logs, sweets and newspapers, and a café (Mill house Tea room). There are other small shops, tea rooms and places to eat in just over a mile away in Askrigg. An equestrian centre offering riding lessons and local trekking can be found a short distance away at Gill Edge.

  • An excellent little place to stay, Bainbridge is a very good start for many wonderful hikes, and very easy access to these walks. You can forget your car, the cottage is very quiet, the bedroom very cosy & a superb bathroom. A wood burner too which was perfect in our freezing temperatures this weekend.

  • Beautiful cottage perfect for a couple. Bainbridge is a pretty little village with a nice local pub and is a great base for exploring the Dales. We had a fantastic few days staying there - wouldn’t hesitate to fully recommend Nikki’s place.

Hillcrest Cottage stands quietly on the edge of the village with the local pub a pleasant 5 minute stroll away. Ideally situated to explore the dales. It's elevated position affords wonderful views of meadows & pastures and the fell beyond with miles of dry stone walls snaking their way over the hillside. Guest comfort is our priority at Hillcrest with emphasis on quality beds & furnishings to ensure your stay is a happy & relaxing one. Out of season short breaks available. Please enquire.
Hillcrest, in its idyllic setting, is the perfect place to relax and unwind at any time of year. All the principle rooms look over the garden and over the valley. The views from the upstairs sitting room are mesmerising. Many of my guests say, 'Who needs a television with views from the window like that!' Watch the swallows swooping and the clouds roll. Take tea in the cottage garden, catch a glimpse of a distant tractor or follow the sheep. The cottage has two log burning stoves and full central heating making it so cosy from autumn through to spring. Curl up on the sofa with a book & a glass of whatever takes your fancy and leave the pressures of everyday life behind. Low Row is well placed to easily access all of the Yorkshire Dales. Reeth is the nearest large village (5 minute drive) for a paper, a few provisions or an ice-cream on the green. Hawes in Wensleydale, home of the famous Wensleydale cheese, is the next dale south and to the north discover Teesdale and the beautiful Bowes Museum and High Force (the highest waterfall in England). Or stay in beautiful Swaledale and visit Richmond to the east and the quaint villages of Muker, Thwaite and Keld to the west. So much to do - so many lovely places to explore, dozens of quiet walking trails and many good pubs & cafes to find. Visit the Punchbowl Inn in Low Row itself for excellent food and a well stocked cellar and the Farmers Arms in Muker; a true Dales pub with great pub food and a lovely atmosphere. The Overton cafe on Reeth green is a favourite as is the Muker Teashop (gorgeous Yorkshire Rarebit!). There is so much that makes Hillcrest and the Yorkshire Dales special - come and find out for yourself!

  • Cosy cottage that has everything you will need in addition to amazing views from every window. Lots of thoughtful touches throughout and everything is clearly explained. The bed is also very comfortable. Overall, it’s a 5 star Airbnb experience!!

  • Sheila and Steve's cottage in Crackpot is a fantastic place to stay. We enjoyed walking from the cottage as well as cycling along The Swale Trail. The cottage had wonderful views down the Swale Valley. It was really clean with everything one could need.

  • If you are looking for quiet and very beautiful environment, this is the place to be. Lovely place with amazing view! We spend our bank holiday weekend and enjoyed our stay so much! Very clean and very well organised - you will find lots of information (i.e. walking paths, restaurants etc). Highly recommended place to stay.

  • Nowt but scenery, but what scenery there is, and such a comfortable, stylish and well equipped cottage to explore it from. Lovely Leyburn is 20 minutes by car, with good food, wine and a heritage railway. The drama of Aysgarth Falls, the Ribblehead viaduct and local walks were highlights of our trip. A combination of thoughtful hosts and fantastic clean and bright living spaces made this a wonderful place to stay.

    Keren2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Sheila and Steve are on site and are very friendly and helpful. The cottage is convenient and comfortable, and well located for visiting the Swaledale Valley (Muker, Keld, Reeth) and for walking. The access roads are very narrow! Sheila and Steve were very friendly and helpful. The cottage is neat and practical with good books on the area and maps for walks. We visited Reeth, Muker, Keld, Askrigg, and Leyburn Bowes museum. There is an organic farm shop near Barnard Castle. The scenery is wonderful! We enjoyed our stay despite the cool weather.

The property briefly comprises a two double bedroom sandstone cottage which has been renovated to exacting standards. On the ground floor is the cosy living/dining room with log burner and luxury fitted kitchen. To the first floor are two double bedrooms and beautifully finished bathroom. The property is complemented externally by off-street parking and a seating area to enjoy the stunning views over Aysgarth Falls.
Bumblebee Cottage is superbly situated next to Aysgarth Falls. Aysgarth is an extremely popular Yorkshire Dales village with a wealth of local amenities. The property is also set behind St Andrews Medieval Church. The three stepped waterfalls at Aysgarth have been a tourist attraction for well over 200 years. Alongside the falls there are several easy paths winding through the woodland area, and in spring the wood is full of wood anemones and primroses. You may even be lucky enough to see roe deer darting away into the shadows. There is a National Park Centre, café and car park at Aysgarth Falls so it easy to visit. A top tip is to remember that the waterfalls are at their most dramatic after heavy rain.
  • Took the family on the Polar Express Christmas train and stayed and the Bumblebee cottage for two nights. Location was perfect just over the road from Aysgarth falls. Cottage was very clean, good communication and will definitely be staying again at this property or one of the other they have in North Yorkshire

Would stay again and highly recommend for 2 couples or a family visit.

  • We had a very enjoyable stay at Intake Cottage. Dorothy was very helpful and friendly. The Cottage is very cosy and the kitchen is well-equipped. There’s also a surprisingly effective coal fire for cold evenings. We had excellent weather for the whole week which meant we walked almost every day though we had planned to spend some time reading and relaxing in the cottage. We would definitely go again as one would never tire of the view.

    James2019-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location

    Annie2019-04-24T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect Dales retreat. Spectacular views across the valley and a cosy little bolthole. Dorothy was a brilliant host and took the time to meet us and make sure we were settled in. Very comfortable bed and exceptionally quiet at night - so we both slept well.

    Ed2019-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • Dorothy’s cottage is in a great location with fantastic views over the valley. The property was very well equipped with everything we needed to make our stay comfortable; there was an open coal fire which we sat around in the evenings and watched TV. The cottage is a great location for walking, we did two walks, one from Muker to Keld via Kisdon and the other from Gunnerside up to the old lead mines. There are loads of places to eat out in local villages and there is The Punchbowl just down the road in Low Row. We had a delicious meal there on our first evening. Dorothy is a great host and was waiting for us when we arrived to show us around and give us loads of useful information. I am sure we will be back!

    John2018-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely, cosy wee cottage! Stunning open fire, everything you could need in the kitchen and a very comfortable bed. The view is stunning and we really enjoyed taking it in with a cuppa in the garden! Dorothy is an excellent host, quick to answer some of my more random questions in the run up to check in. Low row itself is well situated for walking and taking in the various tourist attractions in the surrounding dales. It's a lovely, pleasant walk to the pub in the village, which has a well deserved reputation for its food!
