Ben's Hut is a lovely place to stay at, very clean and handy! The landscape around is amazing with lots of sheep (including Jacob sheep!) and horses. We enjoyed our stay here, and that is also thanks to Andrew who was a great host. Thanks! It is also very well located between Durham and Hadrian's wall, and therefore a perfect place to visit the region.

spent three nights there last week and we just loved Ben's Hut. This is top quality (EMAIL HIDDEN)fy bed, awesome shower, kettle/toaster/microwave/fridge and an incredible custom-built hut in a lovely scenic location. You definitely need a car (or bicycle!) and if you are touring around the area, like us, this is just a wonderful place to be based. Thanks SO much to the Elliots - our hosts could not have been nicer - we cannot wait to visit again.

Ben's Hut is the perfect place to relax and get away from it all, really cosy, comfortable and clean in a gorgeous spot on a working farm, we'd definitely come again.

Perfect little space in peaceful countryside. We utilised the 3rd bed for our 5 year old who loved sleeping in the top bunk. All the beds were very comfortable and the linen was high quality. Upon advice from a previous occupant we took a small camping stove with us and cooked our breakfast outside on the lovely terrace.

The location is easy to find and remote yet central. The hut was cute but very cosy and functional. Would definitley visit again!

Amazing how much has been packed into such a small space. Great communication from Andrew in the lead up and he went above and beyond checking if taxis would pick us and our small dog up from the pub. Downside, not really walkable to a pub (hour and a half on an A road) and the toilet blocked due to a previous guest putting a baby wipe down it - please guys - toilet roll only down there

Ben's Hut is brilliant, perfect if you want to actually stay somewhere surrounded by fields and valleys and sheep when you're away, rather than in a village. Accessed down a pretty winding road you immediately get that feeling where town life disappears entirely and peace and beauty are what's left. The hut is small but comfortable and with views out over fields, and it has everything you need for a few days, including a very good shower. You can walk from the site with several footpaths close by. Andrew was friendly and making arrangements with him was easy. I'd really recommend Ben's Hut if you really want to get some quiet and enjoy beautiful rural surroundings.

Great little cottage for a trip up to Durham and the surrounding areas. Easy drive into Durham city centre itself so a great base to go exploring from. The cottage is really well laid out, clean, tidy and has everything that you need. The log burner in the lounge is a great addition for some extra warmth and very satisfying to have a real fire going! Great garden to the rear which with good weather would be lovely for eating al fresco. David was an excellent host, no complaints at all and would definitely recommend!

A lovely cozy cottage in a quiet village, very clean, very fresh. It has an enclosed back garden that turns into a lovely outdoor dinning room on sunny warm days. There is a grocery store, a couple of take out places, two pubs, all within easy walking distance. The Sun Inn, less than 10 minutes drive, has very good food.

Lovely cottage that is exactly what you get from the picture, I would even say it feel more spacious than the photos show. Ideal location in a quiet village but near enough to everything be it walking, shopping, relaxing. We had a great time and will defintely return. I would recommend to all for a relaxing break. David was a fantastic host.

This is a lovely cottage in a small village just outside barnard castle. The directions given from the hosts were easy to follow. There are 2 pubs and a newsagent in the village but the pubs don't do food we can recommend the sun inn a couple of miles down the road - amazing

Although only staying for a night we had a lovely stay. The cottage is beautifully decorated and has all the facilities for a longer term in a desirable location. Communication both before and after was first class and I would recommend the cottage. Many thanks Emma and family

Garden Cottage is a wonderful, peaceful and tranquil place to stay if you enjoy the great outdoors. The cottage was spacious and homely and the beautiful enclosed garden was a haven for our little puppy to enjoy. It is clean and very well equipped and we could have easily stayed another week. The surrounding area is rolling country side with sheep's and horses for neighbours but places like Durham, the peninnes and Hadrians wall plus much much more is easily reached. Jane and Hugh were super friendly and helpful with anything we needed plus advise on where to walk/visit etc. We would absolutely stay at the Garden cottage again and would definitely recommend it.

We stayed as a couple for two nights at Jane's place and wish we could've stayed longer. The place is light, bright, clean, and spacious. Great for sitting and reading a book / staring out of the window to the views. Despite us staying in February the place was easily warm enough. Overall fully recommended, hoping to go back one day.

We had such a lovely stay here, Jane was a fantastic host and the cottage was beautiful. It had everything we needed and more and was super comfortable! We had a great time walking and exploring the local area and Jane had some great recommendations on where to visit! We loved getting to meet the dogs too. The cottage is very well equipped with an excellent kitchen space and a beautiful bedroom that gives stunning views across the rural landscape. We felt extremely welcome and wished we could have stayed for a much longer period of time.

We had a wonderful stay at Jane and Hugh's cottage. It was just as idyllic as the pictures portray it. The cottage itself is very cosy and comfortable with everything you need provided, plus lots of lovely little extra touches too including the scones and milk left for us. The setting is picture perfect and tranquil, with the beautiful gardens and open views over the rolling countryside. The only slight fault we could mention would be the toilet/ wet room which some people might find difficult to negotiate especially if being on the tall side. But that in no way distracted from our wonderful experience and was a very small inconvenience to pay to stay in such a beautiful cottage and setting. In fact we couldn't recommend it highly enough. Jane and Hugh were great hosts and always on hand if assistance was required. It was a bit of a wrench to leave it behind but have taken away many happy memories from our stay there and would happily return there again.

What a little gem of a place this is. Jane and Hugh are great hosts and Ted a wee little pup was made to feel so welcome. He had a ball,as we did . Would love to return at some point ...maybe when Ted is a little larger ha ha . Property clean and comfy with lovely views, driving distance to local towns and pubs . 5 stars x

A lovely place to stay. We had such a warm welcome (complete with gorgeous cheese scones). The living room and bedroom are particularly lovely spaces, with stunning views across the pretty garden and surrounding hills. Perfect.

I stayed at Sarah's while I was working in the area. Sarah was a good host and welcomed me into her family home. Overall the experience was good and would stay there again.

The hosts were very friendly and helpfull, they picked us up at the train-station. The room is small but provides enough storage for your clothes. You have to be aware that the accomodation is quite far away from the next City (1h Bus drive from Durham), but a supermarket and Pubs can be reached within 5-10 min. walk. In Addition you can reach Edinburgh by Train within 2h.

Sarah and her family were great hosts and we were made to feel very welcome and comfortable. The room was clean and tidy and the house is located about 20 minutes drive from Durham (a very nice drive). Sarah is an animal lover with six cats, two guinea pigs and a lovely friendly dog. She is experienced in hosting guests having had students stay with her regularly in the past. It was a lovely stay and very convenient for visiting beautiful Durham or the wonderful countryside all around. Recommended and thank you Sarah, Kevin and Ben.

From the moment i made the initial enquiry just 48 hours earlier, nothing was too much trouble and in the end it was a shame I was only in the area 1 night as by this morning I felt like I'd known the family all my life, not just 14 hours.

The location is great for Durham as well as exploring the coast and the North Pennines. Good pub near by serving reasonably priced home cooked food. Local shops in Crook which is a short drive away.

Lovely farm cottage and lovely hosts

Emma's flat is very spacious, beds comfortable and kitchen has every thing you need. A great, cheap way to stay in the North East and visit a lovely little town allowing you to easily explore the surrounding area.

Emma's place is wonderful. The place is so well equipped with everything you could need for a comfortable stay. The addition of basic food provisions in the kitchen meant that all I needed to buy was milk for our breakfast. The bedrooms are huge and very comfortable with luxury mattresses and bedding. My 2 boys age 6 and 7 had no problems sharing a bed as it was so huge! A pillow in between them was enough to separate them. The lounge area was very comfortable with a cozy fire and candles provided to make a quiet evening in watching Netflix/TV and drinking complementary Prosecco very enjoyable. Compared to staying locally in a hotel or B&B, Emma's place provides accommodation as good as or far better at a fraction of the price. Thank you very much Emma.

A great location to visit Durham and the surrounding areas. Lovely pub in the Market Place and great walk along the river. Would recommend it to anybody visiting the area.

We were met at the cottage by Kevin, who was very welcoming. He showed us around and gave us tips on where to eat and what to see, which was lovely being in an area we didn't know. The cottage was delightful, very old and full of character. We spent most of time hanging out in the comfy sitting/ dining kitchen. There were 4 adults and 2 dogs and we were all very comfy. Thanks for a lovely stay!

This was our first air bnb experience and could not have picked better, cottage is like a tardis as so much bigger inside then it looks from the outside, in a good location and had no problem with parking, amenties inside were good and nice seating area in small garden. Eileen provided us with some areas to visit beforehand and theres a bumper pack of info in cottage, locally we used the black bull pub, mrs peggotys tea rooms and buen appetito italian restaurant all very friendly and good value, there are some walking leaflets and we did a couple these and loved them. Eileen met us at the cottage and showed us round gave us some insight and popped back later with a wifi top up. All in all would defo stay here if up this way again.

We were met by Kevin and he made us feel very welcome. Would recommend this as a great base to go exploring, we really should have booked a longer stay! A great location and Wolsingham has everything you need (local shops open till 10pm, pubs, restaurants, chinese takeaway to make your stay easy if cooking is way too much and everyone we met were friendly. Highly recommended.

A great 3 night stay in this cottage in pretty Wolsingham. We found house facilities, location and cleanliness all excellent. It was a very good break for us and particularly our Golden Retriever Daisy who had a great time exploring the local walks !

We had a fantastic time; the accommodation was perfect and had everything we needed; slight shame the weather did not encourage lounging on the patio but not much one can do about that! Wolsingham was lovely, it has everything one can need and the swimming pool was a bonus, especially as the weather was not always dry. We would definitely return, preferably for a longer stay.

Lovely cottage. Much bigger than it looks on the outside! Good bathroom, large kitchen. Village is cute. Got some good recommendations from Kevin who gave me the keys. We went to the Italian restaurant and did the walk around the reservoir. Both highly recommended. Would definitely stay here again!

We spent an absolutely lovely weekend with Michael and June, the only terrible thing was that it was so short. The cottage is incredibly cozy - Michael had the fire going when we arrived - and everything we needed for our stay was there. We would definitely love to return and as soon as possible!

Wow, what a beautiful cottage that was perfect for our mini-moon. The cottage was perfect and exactly what we wanted. Michael was a great, friendly host who ensured our stay was fabulous. He had great knowledge of local walks and places to eat. The walks in the countryside were just beautiful and started right on the doorstep. The Punch Bowl Inn pub that Michael recommended was just amazing. You have to stay at this cottage, it's wonderful!

A beautifully done up cottage in a beautiful part of the country! My boyfriend and I spent three days here and we didn't want to go home. From a warm welcome to the warm fire at night we felt at home the whole stay. A very cosy cottage that is just perfect for 2 people. Modern amenities are easy to use straight away and we found everything spotless. The area is great so we had a great choice of activities. Our highlight was definitely the Go Ape centre near Maften - a great adventure high ropes course. Thankyou so much for having us!

Lovely place to stay! The pod was very cosy and we had the luxury of an upgrade to a larger pod when we arrived. Ed was very informative and showed us where everything was and recommended some nice places to eat. The pod had the luxury of a heater aswell which was nice and the views were amazing!

We very much enjoyed our 2 night stay in the camping pod. The site had lovely views and was very peaceful. All the amenities were very clean and we were made to feel very welcome by Kate and Ed. Fantastic glamping pod! First time glamping for us and we loved it, we had the camp to ourselves for out whole stay so didn't have to queue for showers or kitchen use! Everything we needed was on the camp, lovely location too. Will definitely return.

I must say that it was an absolute delight to stay at Annie's lovely home. So far, it's been my best AirBnB experience and, I am sure, will continue to be way up there with other quality places that I may have the luck to stay at. Annie is such a friendly and warm person who went beyond "her call of duty" to make my three-day stay comfortable. I'd highly recommend her for anyone planning to visit Durham for pleasure or business. Durham City is a short ten minutes away by bus or way shorter than that if you are driving yourself.

What a wonderful weekend a Katrina's place. The house was spotless and with such an excellent finish. Katrina went above and beyond for us welcoming us with lovely drinks and food, sorting out a taxi for our Saturday evening dinner and even offering to pick us on the return! Would definitely recommend!!

We were looking for somewhere special to stay for our mother's 60th birthday and not only did the cottage tick all the boxes, but Katrina even put up birthday decor (banners, bunting, balloons!) and provided us with a gorgeous chocolate cake! The property was a true delight. Our host supplied us with complimentary tea and coffee, juices and bottled water, which we were most grateful for! The little selection of board games and deck of cards kept us all entertained in the evenings, as did the DVDs. And we definitely made the most of the gorgeous hot tub, come rain or shine! The environment is private and peaceful which was perfect for us. We all had such a great time, especially mum, and would definitely stay again in the future!

Katrina was so accommodating with great communication, and the cottage is immaculate, comfy and well equipped with everything you need for a short break. We loved our 3 night stay in this beautiful cottage! There are gorgeous views from all around. Katrina took extra care to show us around and answer questions, always being available and friendly while also giving us privacy. The building itself is very beautiful and rustic while also expertly renovated - despite chilly weather, it was always perfectly warm and cozy inside. It is very well organized, spotlessly clean and thoughtfully decorated and equipped with everything. The countryside in this area really surprised me as I didn't realize it would be so very beautiful and picturesque. And the hot tub was amazing! We definitely recommend it 100% and hope to come back someday.

Bishop's Rest is an immaculately clean, modern, aesthetically pleasing, very comfortable, well-equipped, thoughtfully planned and spacious rental. Jennifer has literally thought of everything that any rental could possibly need - from toiletries to soft towels; cosy bed linen and comfortable beds; 'water speakers' and wifi/netflix/tablet and tv; powerful showers and well-equipped kitchen space. We visited with my parents and younger daughter - and it met our mixed needs perfectly. The house is centrally located - and within easy travelling for Durham and the lovely Barnard Castle. Check in was easy. Although this was a short leisure break for us - I'd be really happy renting for business travel. Facilities were as good as any reputable hotel chain - but with privacy, space and freedom you don't get with a hotel. I can fully and unreservedly recommend this rental!

This was honestly the best place me and my partner have stayed in, we didn't want to leave! Perfect location, spotlessly clean and equipped with everything you need and more! We planned days out but ended up staying in watching movies and playing card games. Nothing to fault, Jennifer was amazing, made sure we arrived okay and kept in contact in case we had any issues. We will definitely be returning in the future ☺

The cottage is quaint and well kept, and has gorgeous views both front and rear. Communication from Sarah was perfect and the ease of rental made the whole trip effortless. Little touches like the wine and coffee left for our arrival was welcome after a snow journey to the cottage which is in a quite, but central area. The location is perfect for exploring the North Pennines and we visited, Durham, Hexham, Hadrian's wall, high force waterfall walk and loads of other local villages. There is a coop 2 minutes drive from the property and a pub 5 minutes away too. I live near the West Pennine moors, but the vastness and untouchness of the north pennies just need to be seen in any season and i would highly recommend this property to make the trip perfect.

Just back from a week in Daddry Shields staying in Sarah's lovely little cottage. The cottage has everything you need to relax whilst on holiday and the arrival wine, milk and eggs were a welcome sight.. and consumed in that order. We didn't get to meet Sarah but had contact details if required but after reading previous comments we knew that everything would be in order. The cottage is very cosy, especially with the open fire blazing and has glorious views out the front and it literally backs onto a field at the back. The resident horse must be used to carrot wielding visitors and would readily appear at the window to await his daily feed, a very novel experience and good fun too. The area has some wonderful views and great scenery, don't forget your walking boots cos there are some decent walks to be had in the local area, topped off with a stop in the nearby local for a quick pint(or two) on the way home. All in all, would definitely recommend the cottage and is a great place to stay for a get away from it all holiday.. and we may be back to see some of the places we missed and keep the horse in carrots of course ;).

Just back from a week stay and we have had a great week , the cottage was just what we wanted everything we needed and very clean and tidy . Towels and bed linen all provided 'perfect' . I would definitely stay here again we met some of the locals who are all very friendly and it has the added bonus of the horses in the field behind ,and we went prepared with carrots and even bought more ( my children named the horse Kevin ) . Absolutely perfect stay

This is a great find. Good communication with host, very easy to find and a good welcome. We were a party of four adults so a little tight around the dinner table. Good for walking and visiting local attractions. The Hare and Hounds in westgate is excellent for food and it's own beer. I would really recommend this place. Good value. Down points would be some furniture a little tired, no garden so missed sitting out especially after a day out.

Very comfortable, quiet and peaceful with lovely outlook on both sides. Very convenient for both ends of the Dale, Stanhope and Alston, and within ten minutes walk of a shop, cafe, post office and (EMAIL HIDDEN)fortable beds, very well equipped, an open fire and plenty of space for a small cottage. Highly recommended.

Lovely place to stay and ideal for the wedding we were attending. Margaret was a great host and left us some essentials for breakfast. The house had everything we needed.

Margaret's house is super cosy and nice. Margaret is a great friendly host. Me and my friends staid one night to go to the show kynren and we absolutely loved the house. It is a bit far from the city and I would only advise you to go if you have a car but I would recommend everyone to stay here. Thank you Margaret!

What a friendly and accommodating host. Margaret greeted us upon arrival and showed us through the house and explained everything, she even left milk and essentials PLUS she spoilt us by bringing her puppy German Shepard Zues to come say hallo. The house is situated in a very quiet little village and is perfect if you need a break from the busy life. There is a lovely play park for the kids right across the street and a pub about 4 mins drive away. (Very reasonably priced :-)! ) Great butcher,baker and co-op in the next town up - Esh winning. We stayed there because we are looking to buy in the area, got around very easy and quickly, with Durham only being 20 min drive away. Will definitely stay there again if in the area.

Lovely well appointed cottage. The photos don't do justice to it. It was quite a chilly evening and the heating was very efficient. We hope to be able to use it again another time.

Lovely cottage in a tranquil location, Margaret was an excellent host providing some useful local traffic information which helped our late night journey. The breakfast bit were a lovely touch, and her comfortable, cosy home was perfect for our needs as a stop over before heading into Durham for a Uni open day. Would stay again.

All as advertised, very brief stay but Adrian was welcoming and helpful.

After our hardest day on the c2c cycle tour, we were so pleased to arrive at Adrian's home. He provided secure storage for our bikes before showing us to our lovely room. The ensuite and self contained kitchen were a very welcome inclusion. A more than adequate breakfast was provided before we continued our journey. All in all, top marks! Thank you Adrian.

This was a great location for us, we are travelling around Cumbria and Northumberland so this offered easy access to most locations. Great to have a pub within walking distance serving good food, The Oak Tree Inn was friendly and good portions. The accommodation was spacious and great to have own kitchen. Thanks for bread and milk, fruit and jams, after a long day it was good to have breakfast supplies. Happy with our stay and would come again if we were in the area.

We stayed for a weekend at Tantobie, and were pleased with the service provided. Although we were surprised to find that the rooms are actually in Adrian's house rather than self- contained, we felt very private and would not have known there was anyone else in the house. It is well equipped, with a comfortable bed, a lovely big bath and an efficient electric shower. We did not need to buy anything at all for breakfast while we were there, as a generous supply of essentials were provided. Extremely good value for money

An excellent, quiet and friendly place to stay. The facilities were excellent and the fact there is a kitchen area to use with catering available was outstanding. A great find!

My partner and I had a lovely stay at Adrian's. Lovely house in a nice quiet location. They were great hosts and made us feel very welcome. Great added bonus is the private kitchen area to use. Very comfy bedroom. Would definitely recommend.

Rachel is absolutely lovely and so is her home. We were given a very warm welcome. We had lovely food too, including home-made cheese scones on arrival, and delicious scrambled eggs for breakfast, from Rachel's own chickens. Rachel herself is down-to-earth, very friendly, and very relaxed, which suits us perfectly. The cottage is full of character and has wonderful views over the fields and of the pretty garden. Cotherstone is beautiful and the two village pubs are close by, both very good in different ways. Rachel also gave us some useful tips for walking in the area, and for eating out in Barnard Castle.

Rachel is a very welcoming host and her cottage is perfectly located for exploring Teesdale. We enjoyed several lovely walks in the area, straight from the front door. Perfect for animal lovers as Rachel has two dogs, hens and a cockerel. We were spoilt for choice with the vegetarian breakfast, and a good choice of nearby pubs and restaurants for dinner.

We stayed at Rachels for 6 nights in September. We were made to feel welcome as soon as we walked in and continued to feel welcome throughout our stay. The room was a very good size and we had our own bathroom and sitting room. The breakfasts were excellent and we highly recommend asking Rachel to cook your evening meal if you get chance. Cotherstone is a beautiful village not far from many attractions and places of interest, including Beemish and the Lake District. It is well worth a visit.

Rachel met us at the car, helped carry our luggage, took us to the kitchen and made us a cup of tea and scones. She then showed us round the property, we had our own cosy lounge, very comfy bed with bathroom next door to the bedroom. The village of Cotherstone is beautiful, with a bus service and a small shop with the river Tees a five minute walk away. In short it was like staying with friends.
