  • If you want a quiet rural getaway, then this is the place. The surrounding areas make for some excellent walks if you wish to go off and explore. The accommodation was fantastic, quirky and clean. The bed was the most comfortable we've had whilst using an Airbnb and we couldn't hear a sound from the bedroom. Excellent value and we plan to return when the weather is better to some more exploring. Definitely 5 star

  • The Butterfly Cottage is the perfect place for a few nights away, with some nice walks nearby and lovely views. The bed is the comfiest thing I’ve ever slept on, it was like lying on marshmallows, and Anita and Bruce were very nice and extra helpful - we used their local guidebook to decide what we were doing throughout the day. Would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

    Ben2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed at Anita's and Bruce place for couple of nights. Unbelievably beautiful views and amazing cottage, most romantic place for couple I could ever imagine. My girlfriend was almost crying when we had to leave. Definitely coming back.

  • Very comfortable and cosy stay, garden is secure for dogs and hosts very friendly, lovely area.

    Morgan2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place to stay, very cosy with everything you could need. The cottage has amazing views, and we loved watching Anita and Bruce's dogs playing outside. Bruce was very helpful when it snowed the morning we were due to leave, dug our car out and advised us on the safest road to take to the main road. We will definitely be back in the better weather!

    Katherine2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was extremely cosy and clean, and provided a wonderful base for our trip to the Pennines. Lots of great walks nearby, and Anita and Bruce were available if we had any questions. Homemade bread on arrival was a lovely touch - would highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice, quiet retreat.

    Erin2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I had an absolutely fantastic stay at Butterfly Cottage. We were visiting during Storm Dennis but it was still stunning in the snow! Anita and Bruce gave us tips on walks we could do near by and we were happy enough to sit and enjoy the cottage when the weather was really nasty! Perfect location, perfect hosts, perfect place to stay! Thanks both :)

    Alicia2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Another visit to the beautiful Butterfly Cottage. Perfect in every way. Snug and cosy for our snowy stay. Thank you both for being perfect hosts and thanks to Bruce for providing a spade to help dig our car out of the snow...although we did not want to leave. See you again.

Great location situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Walks and cycling on the doorstep. Leisure facilities 1/2 mile away. Pub/ shops / restaurants 2 miles. Quarry Cottage is ideal for two adults ( no children ) visiting Northumberland and Durham. One small pet welcome. Please note....We also have the Barn next door, new for 2018. Property reference..... "Quarry Barn is a Luxury Barn Conversion" great views and super location. Both Cottage and Barn are just inside Northumberland.
Our cottage is detached from the main residence. One small well behaved dog welcome. Not suitable for infants only two adults. No WiFi through modem but 3g and 4g work well on your phone. The stairs are steep but manageable.
360 degree views overlooking beautiful country side.
  • Had a lovely stay in this beautiful cottage. Took the day to travel around Durham, and spent two nights at the cottage. Would definitely stay again.

  • This is the first time staying here and we couldn’t of asked for anything better. Michael was very warm welcoming and gave plenty of information on where we could go to visit. The cottage itself was sparkling clean and the log burner was a brilliant extra. Would definitely recommend to friends and family. Thank you for a brilliant weekend

    Daniel2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely hideaway in the countryside. The wood burner was fantastic after returning home from a walk in a blizzard! Very nicely furnished and a lovely cosy cottage feel about it. Top Tip: Take slippers. The floors can be cold on your feet in winter.

    Ben2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Michael was very welcoming, he provided us with lots of recommendations regarding where to walk / eat and drink. Cannot fault the cleanliness of the cottage. Perfect location just off of the A68 with plenty to do in the surrounding area. You won't be dissapointed.

    Joshua2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Just home from a two night stay with my friend. Despite the weather we’ve had a lovely couple of days in the cottage; the log burner and alpacas were a particular highlight for us! Hope to come back 😊

    Ashley2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • A very cosy cottage with all you need for a relaxing getaway in the countryside. A couple of maintenance issues were dealt with promptly so that our stay was not affected. Would stay again.

    Eve2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the cottage - a very warm welcome from Michael and great tips for local pubs and walks. Just what we needed.

  • Really warm, cosy, clean and charming

  • A very well made and insulated shepherds hut with a stylish interior. Even in Storm Dennis we felt warm & cosy. A lovely little get away in the countryside and andrew made us very welcome. He even let us feed the sheep and see his workshop where he builds his Shepherd Huts.

    Clare2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, small and compact but has everything you need. Great host and even let my boy hand feed the sheep. We stayed during the last storm, was still nice and warm. Defo recommend, and we’ll more than likely re visit.

    Samantha2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Little Blue Hut was a fantastic get away, Andrew was brilliant left us to have our own space but was there to help when we needed it. He let us check out later on the Sunday as he had no one else arriving and there was a bad storm which was really nice of him. The Hut is really well designed myself my partner and our dog Bodhi enjoyed every minute of our stay. Definitely recommend staying here.

    Zoe2020-02-09T00:00:00Z

  • Julia's cottage is really lovely and she is a brilliant host. We walked her dogs with her on our first day, showing us which walks to go on and we met and stroked the animals she has around the place which pleased my 10 year old very much! The cottage is cute with comfy beds and lots of charm. The best bit is the location - very remote and beautiful views from every window. Absolutely lovely.

    Vicky2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • It was a lovely cottage which was very comfortable, cosy and homely. Julia was also really helpful. We would definitely go back.

    david2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Julia is a wonderful host - just right in terms of checking everything is ok, and open offer to help with anything we’d forgotten. The cottage is utterly charming and a haven in the countryside. Cosy and rustic, but full of modern amenities.

    Fiona2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • A comfy property, extremely remote, lots of animals around you, definately off the beaten track, fabulous walking area, very picturesque, a lovely get away.

    Helen2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage, stunning area, cosy interiors, a great place to hideaway and switch off!

    Rosemary Kate2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • A absolute gem of a cottage in the middle of nowhere, perfect for that weekend getaway with country walks & the log burner on the go. Everything was amazing.

    Tim2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely countryside cottage with comfy beds, great views and a sweet little town just down the road. Would recommend

    Samantha2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Knockburn cottage was an absolutely wonderful break away, the cottage is super cosy and comfortable especially at this time of year. Having the fire lit in the evening was a really nice treat. The bed is extremely comfortable and we slept like babies! There are lovely little touches like fluffy dressing gowns, slippers and an honesty box of local goodies (we unfortunately didn't bring any cash for it but there were some delicious looking things in there!). We didn't have much trouble finding the place as Julia sent extensive directions. There isn't any wifi and phone signal is touch and go but that was part of the charm. The kitchen had every appliance and utensil we needed for cooking & baking as well as basic necessities like oil, salt & pepper. We had an amazing time and are definitely planning on coming back!

  • The Glass House is spectacular! It’s a cosy, beautiful space. The location is pretty epic and quite secluded. It is a little off the beaten track - that’s why we chose it. Some of the local roads in winter aren’t the best. We visited at the end of February in a small car, after three consecutive storms but we did find a route there that was easy enough. It’s well worth fully reading Julia’s directions to figure the best route for you to take. The underfloor heating keeps the place cosy even without the log burner. There are great local walks. Plenty of things to keep you busy in Allendale (1.5hr walk) and Hadrians Wall is just a short drive away. Julia is great, her farm is lovely - fully recommend and would happily visit again!

    Nick2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great location. First time away with our dog who also had a good time. Lots of good walks, short car journey to Allendale where pubs serve good food and even better pints.

    Lewis2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely funky little place, beautiful scenery, was a shame we had rain! There are chickens roaming about outside of the house and sheep in the fields nearby. Julia and her husband were so friendly and welcoming and have local recommendations. The place is very cosy with a huge log fire, we had a lovely time ☺️

    Rebecca2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Glass House is a stunning space I a stunning landscape. Perfect escape to the country with our black lab who loved the countless walks from the front door. Highly recommend and hope to be back one day!

    Laura2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We went away for a couple of nights and it was great. A cute little barn with everything we needed. And very very cosy. Enjoyed the fact that there was no WiFi and poor signal, made us appreciate the time together more and the lush views rather than being distracted. Very muddy in the wet as you'd expect but didn't let it put us off. Some lovely walks to be had.

    Aaron2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing space! Beautifully furnished and heated floor was lovely on a cold, wet evening.

    Liam2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at the Glass House! We did a bit of Isaac Tea Trail walk and it was just beautiful. Would love to stay again. Thank you!

    Alanna2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Had the most amazing stay. So tranquil and secluded. The house is so impressive, spotlessly clean and comfortable. Anything you need - it’s there. We used the log burner and the underfloor heating made it so warm and cosy on a windy, winters night. The whole place is just really special. 10 minutes in the car to nice little pubs and great food at the golden lion in Allendale. Julia is so quick to respond and leaves you to your own devices but you know she’s around should you need anything. A really unique place and beautiful surroundings. Can imagine it’s gorgeous in summer with the BBQ and lovely little garden. Thank you Julia!!!

  • Quarry Barn is a lovely getaway in the perfect location! Michael & June were very responsive to messages and Michael greeted us upon arrival with some great tips and dog friendly recommendations for the local area! The Derwent Manor Hotel was within walking distance (great for a few drinks) and Derwent Reservoir was just 10 mins in the car. The barn was spotlessly clean and decorated throughout to a high standard. We hope to stay again in future!

    Azrael2020-03-09T00:00:00Z

  • This was a second stay at Quarry Barn, this time for a romantic hideaway for Valentines. Cosy and relaxing with an opportunity to walk from the front door and also to the nearby hotel across the fields for a beer or two. I’m sure we will go back again...hopefully when the sun is shining!

  • A beautiful cabin with a wonderful view. We had the most relaxing stay, the pod was sparkling clean and beautifully designed, the log burner was cosy and the decking and hot tub is lovely and private. Our host Sue even got in touch to say we could stay longer than the usual check out to shelter from the miserable weather! We will definitely book again.

  • Just had three amazing nights in the countryman... it did not disappoint! Fantastic views, perfectly private hot tub and deck area. The pods are beautifully furnished with homely touches. Brilliant location for exploring the local areas such as Kielder park and hadrians wall!! We will definitely visit again

  • Beautiful location and accommodation with friendly hosts. Loved getting out the city and into the middle of the country and the hot tub was a great wee bonus even in the middle of a storm! Hosts were so accommodating of our toddler and dog, providing a cot and high chair and making us all feel very welcome. Would definitely recommend!

  • This was truly one of our most memorable and amazing weekend breaks, one that won't be forgotten. Neil, thank you so so much for the hospitality you was amazing. We will definitely be back again soon. Can't speak highly enough about the experience. We will definitely be recommending you to others. Only thing I would say is the pictures you have online for the pods and the surrounding area do not do it justice at all. The pods are stunning, brilliantly designed and built and the perfect size. You truly feel like you're the only people there. And even though all the pods were occupied we didn't hear or see anyone else. Secluded and truly beautiful. Can't wait to come back

  • AMAZING! Perfect for couples, really lovely local town with nice pubs! We loved it and can’t wait to return. Really easy going, friendly hosts who were more than happy to help with any problems. Can tell the hosts have worked really hard to create an amazing experience, highly recommend.

The Shepherd's Hut is a really unique place to stay and a fantastic experience. It's clean, beautifully decorated and well kitted out. It's surroundings of a private patio and pond are idyllic - Grant (August '18) Hut in the Hollow provided a sweet little slice of tranquility, among the wildlife. High quality and comfortable in the hut. The patio/garden area with the pond is great for eating out on at breakfast and sitting looking at the stars at night. Very impressed - Kerry (August '18)
#HutintheHollow has all mod cons. You have a extra long super comfy double bed in a self contained bedroom/lounge/kitchen. You have a wood burning stove and logs for those chilly nights. We will set the fire for you should you wish to use it. Extra logs are available free of charge. There is also a portable radiator to take the chill off. There is a comfy chair and a cracket stool and a fold up table for eating. Whilst it is a Shepherd's Hut there are plenty of electric points and wi fi. The Shepherd and his flock would be well impressed #HutLife There is a separate bathroom with flushing toilet, sink and full shower. There is a beautiful secluded garden and pond. The garden is a great little sun trap.
15 minute walk into the historical City of Durham. You can do this through North End and down Western Hill or through the beautiful Flass Vale a stunning wooded area in the centre of Durham City. It is 20 minutes on your return and it’s quite hilly. You are a 7 minute walk to the nearest Sainsbury's.
  • The hut really is a peaceful escape with all the advantages of the city and beaches near. We took advantage of both, we bought our dog with us and she tucked perfectly under the bed! Durham city was really dog friendly. The facilities and special touches that Richard had added to the hut were just gorgeous, it is warm, cute and homely. Thank you Richard.

  • A lovely charming little hut. We didn't miss a thing, and had a great time. Very recommended.

  • The Hut in the Hollow is a very beautiful place to stay, it is full of character and cosy but has everything you need-we even had milk left for us and some snacks were provided. Richard is a fantastic host who responds very quickly to messages and my partner and I would be very happy to stay again.

  • It’s not surprising to see so many good reviews for the hut. It is a fantastic place, decorated so stylishly and thoughtfully. Location wise was excellent, we had no bother walking in and out of the city centre. Icing on the cake was the flawless communication. Cannot recommend highly enough!

  • Peters place is a wonderful, cosy home from home. With a modern style you relax as soon as you enter. It is a 15 minute drive from town centre of Durham, half hour from Newcastle and in between for so many other places. The building of the estate still continues however when windows are closed you can't really hear it so it doesn't bother you much. We spent a week at Peters place, it was accessible, well decorated, clean and thoughtfully prepared. We'll be exploring more of Durham in the future, so will definitely stay again.

Stay in the very streets where BILLY ELLIOT was filmed COLLECT BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE SEAGLASS off Easington beach on the STUNNING DURHAM HERITAGE COASTLINE steeped in mineing history, fabulous walks bring your dog, easy reach Hartlepool,Durham,Sunderland
Complete house well behaved dogs welcome
Easington colliery was in the past a great mineing community, although the colliery streets are now privatly owned and rented out many of the miners still live there, you can feel the nostalgia of days gone bye mostly on the old pit site next to the beach which has been made into a nature reserve and is part of the beautiful Durham heritage coastline with the original pit shaft on display absolutly beautiful walks with your dog through the dene right next to the sea where you can freely collect as much SEAGLASS as you can find which gets washed up daily from an old factory in Seaham that closed many many years ago this little village is amazing, lots of filming takes place here ,the programme VERA is often here for itv and of course the BILLY ELLIOT movie shows exactly as it was !
  • Sweet little house, spotlessly clean and perfect for exploring local beaches. Would love to return one day x

    Dianna2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, clean house, very warm and cosy. Ideally situated to the North East beaches and lovely coastal walks. We have visited several times and keep returning. Ellen is a great host.

    Tracy2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great value place with everything you need for your stay provided and a full range of local amenities close by : )

    Ray2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our four night stay at Ellen's place. The house was spotlessly clean and the kitchen very well equipped. It was a warm and cosy environment to return to each day, after spending time with our family in the North East. Ellen was very hospitable and helpful and provides everything you could need. The DVD collection is large and we enjoyed watching some of the local history ones that portray the mining heritage of this region. When the first storm of 2020 hit the area on Monday 13th Jan, it was a real godsend to have a good Thai/Chinese takeaway just around the corner. Our Brittany Spaniel had a wonderful time. As many others have said, this coastline is great for dog walkers and the reclamation and improvements to the landscape are to be commended. Like so many other places in the North East, this former mining colliery has seen better days, but the people are friendly and helpful and Ellen has done a fantastic job of making this place so inviting, relaxing and comfortable. We do intend to return.

  • A grand place to stay for new years with plenty of walks and local amenities nearby. The locals are lovely, the area is indeed under improvement but it was still a very pleasant stay. We came so our dog didn't have to suffer through fireworks and he slept the whole night and didn't want to leave the property when we had to go home! Ellen is full of local knowledge and very caring, she's one of the nicest hosts we've had!

    Lucy2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place, sparkling clean and a simple base for wandering the local area. Ellen was so hospitable and knowledgeable about the area. Will definitely stay again when we come visit the area.

  • Plum Cottage is a wonderful place to stay. The location is stunning - quiet and peaceful and over looking the river wear, it is a true slice of heaven. The cottage itself is gorgeous, combining the charm of a cottage with all mod cons - the Wi-Fi was the best we had experienced in a holiday let and the kitchen and bathrooms were fantastic - loads of hot water. The wood burning stove was the icing on the cake. Bev was the perfect host, friendly, welcoming and helpful while also leaving you to enjoy your time there - knowing she was a phone call away if you needed anything. A truly five star experience.

  • We really enjoyed our stay in Lanchester. Our hosts were so nice and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble and had recommendations for all sorts of activities and restaurants. The accommodation is superb, and has everything you need for a comfortable stay - including the all important bottle opener! The lodge is spacious and has a lovely good sized wet room. Comfortable armchairs have been provided so you have options should you choose to have a cozy night in as we did. Our hosts even went to the trouble of stocking books and board games. Lots of little extras such as shampoo, body wash, body cream etc were provided in the bathroom. And the kitchen was stocked with bread and milk for our arrival - which is always a lovely touch. Next time we are in the North East we will be staying here again.

One possible thing that would have helped, a stronger hoover. This is only because our collie is very hairy and I was paranoid re the hairs. Not complaining in any way re this. • Katrinas place is outstanding. It has a very comprehensive range of kitchen utensils/plates/glassware etc and the cooking facilities were excellent. Rooms are immaculately clean. They are also spacious and comfortable. I really can't think of anything that was less than a high standard and I will certainly be adding this to my list of "stay agains" In addition, Katrina is the perfect host. Excellent communication. Very helpful. definitely 5 stars.

    Anthony2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Katrina’s cottage was everything I hoped it would be. It had the look of an old farm house but the amenities of modern day. I loved getting to see all of the cows and sheep in the pasture. Very relaxing place and not too far from civilization. Would definitely stay again and would recommend to anyone that wants some quiet time in the country. Was a little sad that the hot tub died before my stay, but Katrina made up for it by reducing the rate and providing a great place to stay with some nice little touches.

    Joanne2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Katrina's cottage. We stayed with our 2 daughters and they loved it. They were fascinated with the working farm around the cottage, watching the cows and sheep being moved from field to field kept them amused. This was our second time staying and we would stay again in a heartbeat, very clean and homely. Katrina is a great host who goes out of her way to make you feel welcome and adds little surprise home comforts to make your stay even better. Would highly recommend.

    Erin2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is an excellent cottage, sparkling clean, has everything you need. The views from the garden are splendid and the flock of sheep kept us entertained for hours. Katrina has supplied some lovely supplies and the cottage is very comfortable and cosy. Katrina and the family are very welcoming. Would highly recommend this cottage.

  • Fantastic place for families! We traveled there with our two little girls ages 4 and 2. She set up the cottage with baby gates, toys, a pack n play and more. Our kids loved being able to see the sheep and cows. The views are stunning. It’s a great location to see the English countryside and we were able to drive to several castles from this location. I would highly recommend this place!!! Trust me, you will not be disappointed.

    Sergio2019-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • I’d like to recommend to anyone who is looking for castle-living. That is amazing stay and my kids love it very much. The little one can play at the toy room for a whole day. The castle is close to the Lake District. It is totally fine if you want to go and back at the same day. There is some miss understanding when we booked the room. Wendy give us two beds with a reasonable price, which is really nice. We will surely come and visit next time.

  • It was an absolutely fantastic experience staying at Augill Castle and we will definitely come back. Everything was spot on and the food was excellent! The rooms and the exterior are even nicer than in the pictures. We highly recommend this accommodation.

    Patrick2019-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • Augill Castle is truly special. The history of the place, the way Simon and Wendy have restored it, and the way they run it today were all exceptional. I loved the informal nature of our stay--it really feels like you're with family when you're at Augill. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone traveling to the Lake District. And the rooms (and linens!) are incredible to boot.

Simple, clean, comfortable single bedroom. Town centre is about a half hour walk or 5 minutes on regular bus routes for a small fair. There is a bus stop two minutes walk away. Local shops and amenities are all a very short walk away, located on front street. I live alone and am pretty laid back. I'll try to accomodate you if i can. • Gutted that we only stayed here for one night whilst on the way to Scotland. A lovely place in a unique setting that we would go back to so that can we can explore more of the area. Loved all of the little touches throughout and was more than suitable for our 1 and a 1/2 year old. Thank you and hopefully will be back again one day!

  • The cottage has a lot of rustic charm with exposed beams and an open fire. It has all the facilities you would need as well as nice touches like fuel for the fire (which was alight when arrived !) and breakfast items for you first morning. The village is very quiet with just a pub (good beer and good food) a couple of minutes walk away.

  • Lovely little one bed cottage in a lovely little village. Local pub close by and dog friendly. Having a lit fire when we arrived was amazing, thank you. Added extras were great also, like breakfast items and bathroom essentials like wipes etc. We had a great 2 night break away with our daughter and dogs. Host very responsive and helpful.

  • Dani’s cottage is the perfect location for a peaceful break. It definitely saved us from the Christmas madness. Everything about this place eludes charm. From start to finish Dani couldn’t have been more helpful. From walking in to a lit open fire helping warm us on a cold day, to exploring the quaint cottage to find more thoughtful touches like fresh milk and bread and the Christmas decorations; everything was perfect. The ideal setting for walkers and dog owners.

  • Beautiful cosy cottage, 4 of us and dog stayed, plenty of room for us all. There were thoughtful touches like a ready made fire and basket of items for our dog to use. Immaculately clean and everything needed was there for a self cater weekend. The host was super friendly and made check in nice and simple, which we like after a long drive. The Moss Inn just round the corner is a must, great staff and great atmosphere. The cottage is a good base to see lots of the local area which is stunning. We highly recommend and will definitely book again.

We cooked a Sunday lunch easily as the kitchen provided lots of utility. The beds were very comfortable. The area is surrounded by stunning countryside and lots to do. John provided love Christmas touches in the cottage which were lovely. We would highly recommend this cottage. Thanks John.

Our house, Whispering Waters, contains a private, contemporary two-room apartment suite, with its own private access via an exclusive south-facing deck, 21 mtrs above the tree-lined River Tees. Lying in bed, it's as if you’re in a treehouse with the treetops visible outside the window. Situated in Lower Teesdale (on the A67, between Barnard Castle and Darlington - around 7 miles/11km from each), Whispering Waters is a house without neighbours, immediately adjacent to, and above the River Tees.
The suite comprises a double bedroom with king-sized double bed, a modern shower room, and a living room. The latter has tea and coffee making facilities, a small fridge containing fresh milk, water, juice, and light continental-style breakfast (please let us know if you have any specific dietary requirements). The lounge area can be provided with a foldout single bed. If you need that, let us know and we'll see what we can arrange. There is a TV and free WIFI.
The village of Gainford is a five minute walk away with a general shop, a butcher, post office, hairdressers, cafe, fish and chip shop and a pub. There's also a pretty village green and other beautiful walks along the river. There are a number of quality restaurants less than ten minutes drive, including the only 2* Michelin restaurant in the North East, The Raby Hunt. Other local attractions (all within a fifteen minute drive) include the independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants in the Teesdale town of Barnard Castle, which also houses the amazing Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle (a full-sized French chateau in a medieval English market town). The remarkable Raby Castle is also close by. Darlington town centre (with its main-line railway station) is a twenty minute drive away, as is the North Yorkshire market town of Richmond. Ten minutes beyond Barnard Castle, into upper Teesdale, you enter an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and what is known as England's Last Wilderness, which includes one of Britain’s highest waterfalls, High Force. There are wonderful walks all over Teesdale, with some spectacular views.
  • Beautiful and tranquil. Lovely comfy space with the most thoughtful touches and sound of the river outside. Arrived on a clear night and the view of the stars here was magnificent :)

The Chapel on the Hill is a boutique conversion of a Methodist Chapel close to Middleton-in-Teesdale. It occupies a stunning position with beautiful views across Upper Teesdale close to the Pennine Way and the famous High Force Waterfall.
This holiday cottage consists of a large and fully equipped kitchen, a spacious and cosy living room, four comfortable bedrooms and three modern bathrooms and is available for short stays (minimum of 3 nights) and weekly bookings. For short stays, check-in is from 2 pm and check out by 11 am. For weekly bookings, changeover day is Saturday with check-in from 4 pm and check-out by 11 am. The Chapel accommodates up to 7 people. On the ground floor you will find: - A spacious and beautifully designed living room with a wood burning stove for cosy evenings - A large and fully equipped kitchen with a stunning dining area - A spacious bedroom with a day bed (extendable to double), which suits either a single guest or a couple - A luxuriously designed bathroom with a roll top bath and shower On the first floor you will find: - Two comfortable and elegantly decorated master bedrooms with separate en-suits - A single bedroom (more suitable for children)
The Chapel on the Hill occupies a stunning position with beautiful views across Upper Teesdale, a declared Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The property is located in an isolated position and is accessed by a cul-de-sac that also leads to a nearby farmhouse. The Chapel is ideally located for exploring the beautiful Teesdale valley, with it’s abundance of amazing walks like the Pennine Way or natural landmarks, such as the High Force Waterfall, which can be reached within 20 minutes walking. In terms of climate, Teesdale is as remote, rugged and windswept as you can get in England. Middleton-in-Teesdale’s climate is classified as warm and temperate, yet it has a significant amount of rainfall during the year. This is true even for the driest months of March and April.
  • Such a great social space to spend New Years Eve with friends and family. The beds were super comfy and there are some picturesque walks very close to the Chapel - low force was a particular highlight. The selection of board games to suit all ages was a bonus too.

    Katy2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed at the Chapel on the Hill over Christmas for 5 nights and enjoyed every single minute there. All the rooms were well equipped and stylishly decorated, no stone had been unturned when this chapel was renovated. The designer and architect obviously took their time on the Chapel, WOW it’s an amazing place to stay. Then you have the spectacular views from all the windows, and your bedroom. We left our bedroom blind up so we could look at the stars at night (unfortunately all nights were overcast) we had the best neighbours ever (Sheep) perfect. The little village of Middleton-in-Teesdale was quaint and Bernard Castle had all the shops you needed. We would definitely come back, again and again. Thank you Anna for being so prompt with our questions.

  • The Chapel on the Hill is fantastic! We had a great time celebrating a birthday here and I would definitely recommend booking it for a trip. The place is clean, comfy and finished to a very high standard. It’s located in a great area for fresh air and walking. Anna was also very helpful and we can’t thank her enough for a great trip!

    Indee2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • The Chapel is an outstandingly beautiful place to escape to. Not only is the whole place decorated with style and flair, but the 360 views around the North Pennines are simply stunning. We had a fantastic stay with a 10 month old and a very excited 3.5 year old. It is our favourite AirBnB destination we have been to so far and we will definitely be back again next time we need to get away from the madness of city life.

    David2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • For peace, tranquility and spectacular rural beauty, you will never find a better place then the Chapel on the Hill. I cannot begin to describe the absolute “perfectness” of this one-time Methodist Chapel. Not only is the Chapel the perfect place to relax and unwind, it is also within easy driving distance of quaint English villages with surprisingly good restaurants and amazing natural beauty. This is one of the most wonderful places we have ever visited. It is spotlessly clean and wonderfully appointed. I cannot thank Anna enough.

  • What a lovely hideaway Carlene's place is! We were house hunting around Lanchester and Wolsingham and it was perfectly located for us. We had snow, sleet and the very windy Storm Jorge during our short stay but The Annexe was super cosy! We loved it so much that after a long day of house viewings we opted for a bottle of wine and a takeaway for night 2. We didnt use the kitchen but can say that it was really well equipped. Bed is super comfy (we only used the one in the upper open plan area) - it is just a great place all round. Carlene was a lovely host and responded to all my questions and enquiries really quickly, we met and had a chat, she's lovely. If she'll have us, we will be back!

The Stables is a spacious barn conversion with separate large fenced garden, outdoor spaces and BBQ area. Surrounded by open countryside, on the working farm of Raygill near Barnard Castle on the river Tees. The accommodation can sleep up to 20 persons with 4 bedrooms including a master en-suite family room. Set in beautiful Teesdale near Lartington hall, minutes from the historic town of Barnard Castle on the river Tees. We mainly cater for large self catering groups.
Fantastic large space ideal for large groups of friends and family. Plenty of outdoor space in the countryside but only a short walk in to the centre of town. The large fenced guest garden overlooking open countryside with picnic benches is separate from the main building at the bottom of the courtyard and not the garden pictured at the front of the Farmhouse and Adjoining Stables cottage.
Barnard Castle & Lartington in Teesdale is a picturesque rural setting with great outdoor space for walking, cycling, Canoeing, Kayaking and all other outdoor pursuits. Close to a busy historic market town with castle on the River Tees & a French style Chateau called the Bowes Museum. Plenty of great places to eat and drink with lots of boutique style shopping.
  • The host is trying really hard to upgrade the property to a high standard. This will be completed soon. The Pool table was full size and good quality. The kitchen table allowed 8 of us to play Monopoly. House was warm. This is a good house for families. Toilet lights came on automatically. Small item, but great at night. The house easily holds 8. It can hold 16, but the extras are put in a dormitory room which is basic. Bernard Castle is the friendliest town I have come across. Bowes Museum and Loco museum in Shildon great.

  • The stables were great for our party of 15 staying for the weekend. The kitchen is large and well equipped, with enough dining space for everyone too! Perfect location, on a scenic farm and only 10 mins drive from Barnard Castle, Peter was a brilliant host! Everyone had a great stay, fantastic spacious house that I would highly recommend!

    Nick2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Raygill Farm for my hen do. The cottage was very spacious, plenty of room for all of us, including in the kitchen and living room. Peter was very friendly and helpful on arrival and when we left. The cottage is in a lovely scenic area and it was nice to be able to walk around the farm and see the lambs and horses. Great place for a nice relaxing visit. Thanks Peter!

    Helen2017-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic weekend. The Stables are huge ! Our party was made up of 16 across all ages, we had plenty of room and didn't feel as though we were on top of each other. The facilities were good, everything you need really. The location of the stables is on a farm, which is brilliant, with plenty of horses and a couple of friendly pigs. One of the farmers even brought a baby lamb over to show to the children in our group, they loved it. The Stables are about 20 minutes easy walking through pretty woodland to Barnard Castle, well worth a look. Throughout, Peter communicated really well with us. He made it clear that if we needed anything we only had to give him a call. We'll definitely be back in the future. Good luck Peter

  • Lovely, comfortable and spacious house ideal for large parties. Lots of great walks in the local area and a very welcoming host.

    Bettina2017-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great place for a large group, the house is well provisioned for cooking with big fridge freezer and plenty of space to cook and eat. Pool table is a nice addition and we were able to catch the rugby on the big screen before heading out for the evening. Peter's communication is fantastic, we spoke multiple times during booking and I knew exactly what to expect. He even helped us book some activities and check-in was easy. Would stay again.

The Regent's Chambers is a marvellous and comfortable place to stay, with super king beds, Netflix & Amazon Video, board games, self check-in and breakfast ingredients (except for milk!). There's a garden for relaxing in during nice weather (it happens!) and a real home-from-home feeling. There's free parking just outside the flat and it's a five minute walk into town (explore the castle and new gallery spaces), ten min to the station and ten min to Kynren. Durham is just a half hour away.
The kitchen is country style, with oak worktop and cream cabinets. It's fully stocked with basic necessities (tea selection, real coffee, olive oil, salt, pepper, spices and herbs). There is also bread, spreads and cereals on offer (though you need to bring milk). The bathroom has a separate shower and bath. Don't worry if you forget your shampoo, conditioner or shower gel as it's all provided for you. There are two big bedrooms with super king size beds and pillowtop mattresses, very soft 400 thread count sheets and feather pillows. The living room has a 49" Smart TV with freeview. You can watch Super HD Netflix, Amazon Video and BBC iPlayer too - the flat has its own Netflix and Amazon accounts so no need for a subscription. There's a large double sofabed (14cm full double memory foam mattress) and a single daybed (3000 pocket pillowtop mattress). Both beds are super comfy and have lots of pillows and cushions for maximum cosiness. There are double curtains in the bedrooms and living room, which all look out onto the street - the voile is to ensure privacy (but still lets in the light) plus lined blackout curtains on top. The flat is on the ground floor so it's more accessible for people with limited mobility, but note there are three shallow steps up to the front door so it's not suitable for wheelchairs. Parking is easy - there's lots available on Etherley Lane and though there are single yellow lines around the corners there are no other restrictions (except don't park in front of other people's houses as it annoys the neighbours!). It's best to park just outside the side gate on Etherley Lane, where you first check in. During Kynren days there is parking enforcement on the street but parking permits are provided in the flat for you to use. You can use smart check in to get into the flat with a code I give you at booking, so you can arrive whenever is convenient, even in the small hours of the morning. Have a lovely stay!
Known as the gateway to Weardale, Bishop Auckland is a bustling market town in the Vale of Durham, standing high above a meander in the River Wear with commanding views of the surrounding countryside. Walk fifteen minutes from the flat straight into the beautiful grounds of the magnificent Auckland Castle, the country residence of the Prince Bishops for more than 900 years. And don't miss the annual Bishop Auckland Food Festival which takes place in the castle grounds every April. It's AMAZING. Surrounding the Castle are the 800 acres of the Bishop's Deer Park - a great place for a summer picnic or an autumnal stroll through vividly coloured parkland. It's open all year round and is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. The town is set for major developments over the next few years, with a new welcome building at Auckland Castle, a new Museum extension, an institute of Spanish art and culture, and the redevelopment of the 17th Century Walled Garden which will feature stunning new glasshouses providing 'garden rooms' restaurant and event spaces. The town burst into life in 2016 as Eleven Arches presented the first season of ‘Kynren – an epic tale of England’ - the £31 million open-air live action night show that attracted more than 100,000 visitors during the summer. Kynren returns in 2017 to take audiences on an epic storytelling journey through 2,000 years. Bishop Auckland's historic town centre has a thriving arts and cultural offering, with the Bishop Auckland Town Hall home to a superb library, cinema, theatre and arts complex. Plus, the town has more than 200 shops - head for Bondgate for boutiques and specialist shops that you won’t find on the high street. A mile from the town are the remains of Binchester Roman Fort, home to the best preserved Roman military bath house in Britain. And at Escomb, you can see one of the finest examples of early Christian architecture in Northern Europe at the restored 7th Century Escomb Saxon Church. It's one of the first churches in the whole of the UK, so not really one to miss. Don't forget also the National Shildon Railway Museum for train enthusiasts. Shildon was pretty much the birthplace of railways so do please go and check out an engine or two. Bishop Auckland is very well placed for trips to lots of local castles, the North Pennines and day trips to Durham (half hour drive).
  • I only stayed at Emma’s for one night, in preparation for an Exam I had in Bishop Auckland. It was the perfect place to stay to relax and get myself ready. I can see that this apartment would be great for larger groups too, including families, looking to get away and have some quality time.

    Lydia2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • The Regent's Chambers was a lovely flat and had all the amenities we needed. Emma was a fantastic host with great communication and a very handy check in video! The flat is about a 5min walk from the main high street and there's two big supermarkets a few minutes further. The town was lovely though it was just a shame we couldn't get out and about much because of the storm. If you're eating in Bishop Auckland I definitely recommend Beedles Chippy and Panda Panda. We managed to make a quick stop (40mins away) in the North Pennines on our drive back home. If you only have a little bit of time, I highly recommend the High Force falls. It was absolutely stunning and feels like you've been transported to somewhere in North America! I wish we could have spent a lot longer there!

    Sarah2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to stay if you’re in the area. All we needed and more. Will definitely stay here again next time we visit.

  • Lovely accommodation plenty of space for a large family. Very comfortable beds.

    Julia2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for an evening for a work trip, it was in an ideal location for us. It is quite a big space and could have definitely stayed for more than one day. Garden is secure if you have a dog, cannot hear much noise from the flat above. Nice little touches like cereals, butter, bread which you dont get from many air b and b's. Thanks Emma

(Dogs must be pre agreed and is an additional £20 per pet, per stay). Garden Cottage is a quaint and tranquil barn conversion, located in the heart of the beautiful Northumberland Countryside. The cottage boasts beautiful views near and far. The cottage has many windows which takes great advantage of the beautiful surroundings, looking on to the peaceful country views, court yard and paddocks. We also have an occasional barn owl.
WE ARE VERY RURAL WITH NO COVID-19 REPORTS IN THE AREA. Due to the low price I do not offer tea and coffee however, I do supply bare essentials and a few additional extras such as: shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, toilet roll, washing liquid as well as towels etc. I don’t supply oil in the kitchen. Garden Cottage offers something for everyone, whether it is a romantic break, business or for walking/cycling. The living, landing area and sleeping areas are very spacious and clean as well as a large garden to relax in on those sunny days. There is a sofa bed in the bedroom upstairs, which will sleep 2 people. Note: the sofa bed is a little smaller than a double bed. A small warning: The bathroom is very small, consisting of a toilet, sink and walk in shower (wet room). There is no bath. The bathroom has a glass door, which has an opaque covering and is to the side of the kitchen. The heating is turned off in the cottage during May - October. The heating will be turned on in circumstances where it is unusually cold. It's important that guests are comfortable at all times. The garden is shared. With the garden to the left belonging to the cottage and the garden on the right (containing the summer house) belonging to the farm house. As a rule and for optimum privacy, it is rare that we use the garden when we have guests, but we may use the double gates to the side of the farm house, from time to time. Whilst I allow children and infants, I don’t have any specific supplies for children and infants. For example; baby gate, changing area, cot, high chair etc
Garden Cottage is situated in the middle of country side, but within easy reach of the A68 for anyone wanting to go on any expeditions by car! There are many public footpaths to take advantage of, as well as the beautiful garden and stunning views at the Cottage itself. There are many places to visit in the surrounding areas so it is advised that guests wanting to explore should spend more than one night at our cottage. Discovering the historical landmarks at Beamish Hexham Hadrians Wall Northumberlandia Derwent walk Derwent reservoir Slaley forest Blanchland medieval village Corbridge A secure store can be provided for anyone who would like to bring a bike however, guests use our storage facilities at their own risk. The owners of Garden Cottage take no responsibility for any losses or damage whilst using our storage facilities. There are also some lovely local pubs, including the Manor House Inn, which is only 2 miles from the Cottage. This can also be accessed on foot. Travelling further afield, the Anchor Inn is also a good quality, local pub. The Manor House Inn is popular so be sure to book in advance if you’re planning to eat at the Manor House Inn. Visiting Wheelbirks ice cream parlour is also a must for some traditional pub grub as well as freshly made, decadent ice cream! The farm is approximately 15 minutes away from Garden Cottage. If you are wanting a spa day to fully relax, you can visit Slaley hall where you can book yourself In to a spa day! They also have golf!

  • Rachael's place is a great way to explore the surrounding area! It's warm and cosy, there's plenty of room, and the little kitchen was well-stocked with pans and utensils, which we found really useful. The surroundings are beautiful, and there's a great local pub within easy walking distance. Communication was super-swift and friendly. Thanks for a great stay!

    Vicky2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • I cannot recommend enough and will certainly return! Rachael was super helpful from the moment we booked, giving us lots of great recommendations of things to do and welcoming us on arrival. The cottage itself is sparkling clean with plenty of space, cosy and in a lovely location. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, particularly relaxing and watching the horses from the window in the evenings - we couldn't have asked for a better trip! Thank you again!

    Emily2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great host, beautiful place close enough to amenities but far enough to enjoy the peace and quiet. Quirky spacious cottage with everything you need. Comfy sofas and bed. A gorgeous spot to watch the sun rise too - the perks of traveling with a toddler! We'll definitely be back and hopefully get to see the horses next time! Xxx

Millstream Lodge is a modern, classic cottage set in a picturesque village setting with all the amenities within easy reach.
  • Great location in the village. Excellent facilities. Very clean and comfortable.

    Ruth2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was absolutely perfect, ideal for a long weekend. Have fond memories of living in Wolsingham as a young child, loved being able to visit again. Would recommend the Italian as well as both pubs in the village. Very likely to return in future.

    James2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy little place - clean, comfortable, warm and quiet. Good value for money. Just be aware, you need to be reasonably agile to negotiate the spiral staircase.

    Anne2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • First time using airbnb and very happy with Millstream lodge, quiet, spotlessly clean and had everything you needed for a short stay. A great base for exploring Co. Durham Off street parking a bonus plus at the end of the lane was a great Italian restaurant which we used both nights.

    Phil2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet location off the main road but close to the shop and Italian Restaurant. The flat was self contained, on two levels and had everything you needed. It looked new and bright and clean.

    Margaret2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is a delightful apartment. Quiet and peaceful and equipped with all the amenities you need. The internal staircase is quite steep but charming nevertheless.

    Peter2019-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had an excellent stay in Millstream Lodge. It's location is excellent in the centre of Wolsingham close to pubs, shops cafes and restaurants. The beautiful Hamsterley Forest is nearby where we spent a day cycling. There are lots of other attractions in the area. The lodge was very well appointed and the decor is modern and stylish, but still has a country feel to it. The kitchen was well equipped to cook, and had an added bonus of a dishwasher which we weren't expecting. Janette was a great welcoming host. We will certainly be staying here again.

    Marc2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Really nice stay for a couple of nights and the property had everything we could need. It is located in a beautiful area. We did a stunning local 4-mile walk from one of the leaflets left in the property for local events/days out. We also dined at the local Italian restaurant which was great value for money (we went to the happy hour) and just a couple of minutes walk away from the property. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again if we were back in the area.

We are coming back in the summer with more friends for sure! ❤️ Thanks very much!

Everything from a picturesque views of the country to the cozy and homely touches and decor inside and of course the hot tub was honestly just amazing. • We spent one night at Nigel’s en route to Newcastle Airport. Very comfortable and clean accommodation and Nigel’s hospitality was 5 stars. Brilliant value for money. Thank you!

  • Nigel is the perfect host, I only wish the star rating was higher than 5!! Nigel was thoughtful, helpful and made my stay (which was for a course) wonderful. The breakfasts were so lovely, little touches like flowers, bottled water and fruit in the room were just amazing. Fantastic value for money, such a lovely clean house. Nigel even let me do my clothes washing there. All in all it was a much better stay than any hotel I have been in. If I need to stay up in consett again I will definitely be booking with nigel.

  • Nigel was very nice and helpful. He cooked me breakfast every morning and even cooked me lunch and dinner once. He was very helpful in giving me information about the area.

  • Without a doubt, the best stay I have ever booked. Nigel is an incredible host who goes above and beyond to make your time at his wonderful property amazing. His place is spotless, warm and cozy. The location is perfect for public transport and local amenities, which Nigel cheerfully directed me to. There is so many lovely points, I could go on and on, therefore I couldn't recommend this booking highly enough. This place is home from home and a real diamond of a stay. Would definitely book again.

  • Nigel was very welcoming and we had a lovely hot drink and sandwiches on arrival. He is a fount of information on Durham and we had a wonderful tour of the cathedral by Nigel. Lovely stay.
