Places to stay in Bonawe

Places to stay in Bonawe
We look forward to warmly welcoming you to The Byre, a lovely renovated and historic farm cottage nestled in the countryside near the west coast town of Oban. Immerse yourself in the experience of living like a local on this traditional highland farm, run by a Scottish family from one of the ancient highland clans. You have the entire use of the cosy cottage with its exposed roof timbers and original stone walls. Relax, unwind and soak up the beauty in this special, peaceful cottage.
A living space with a fully kitted out kitchen and dining table; a bathroom with shower cubicle, toilet and sink; and two twin bedrooms are all yours to enjoy. Breakfast cereal, jam, marmalade, milk, tea, coffee and fresh farm eggs are provided for you to make your own breakfast. The cottage was once the old byre (barn) for the farm. Now fully renovated, underfloor heating and double glazing ensures you'll have a cosy stay any time of the year.
The cottage is only a short distance from the village of Taynuilt. The village has a pub, restaurant, post office, grocers, butcher, craft shop, hair dresser and tea room. There are lots of nice walks in the area, including directly from the cottage. You can go for a stroll along the edge of a sea loch, a wander through a forest or climb a mountain. There are several open gardens in the area worth a visit, as well as castles, the Cruachan hydro electric visitors centre and the Inverawe Smokery.
  • The Byre is a cozy cottage full of all the mod cons needed to make your stay very comfortable. Spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated, Niall has turned this once black house into a perfect holiday accomodation. The views of Ben Cruachan are tremendous as is the situation on the whole. Niall's father introduced us to the sheep, goats, hens and various ducks on the farm, which was a lovely experience. The Byre is a perfect spot if you enjoy 'The good life'. Highly recommended.

  • We had an amazing time at Niall's place. From the moment we arrived to feeding the sheep the next morning. We loved the stories about the house, the farm and the sheep. A beautiful place to stay, with beautiful people. We will be back!

  • This is one of the best places we have had the pleasure of staying in. The location is ideal for exploring the area and both Niall and his father have some wonderful tips for things to do. Upon arrival, the house was perfectly clean and very cosy and comfortably set up. There were lots of lovely homely touches - which we very much appreciated. The hospitality was superb, we loved learning about the history of the building and being able to experience part of the farm, by feeding the animals, just topped off an already brilliant time. We would whole heartedly recommend Niall's place to anyone, and we are very keen to return.

  • This is a lovely cottage. With lots of little touches that we wasn’t expecting. With great hosts. Would recommend this cottage as it’s located near lots of destinations to visit and the scenery is beautiful. If you decide to stay here. You must go and visit the farm animals and help feed them. As it’s a lovely experience. Specially if you have children. Also the farms sheep dog is very friendly and likes to fetch the stick.

  • Very beautiful place, clean and silent. Niall gave us good tips and it was a pleasure to stay at his farm.

  • This is the spot to stay. cozy, friendly down to earth people serving up a scottish experience. Not too far from town and great walks and views.

    Steven2019-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • Niall's accomodation is clean and very well furnished. In the morning we could feed sheep and have received much information about the region. Especially for children certainly an experience

Built for the maid of the house The Maids Hut @ Cnocrannach is traditionally Scottish, made from corrugated iron, windows of varying size and lined with wood. The original high level toilet is still there as well as the wooden sash windows adding to the rustic charm of this wee hut. The wee log burning stove will keep you cosy. A 5minute walk from Taynuilt Station with daily trains to Glasgow and 2 stops from the Gateway to the Isles, Oban. We are dog and child friendly and so is our Maids Hut.
There are bunk beds and a single bed in the bedroom with the option of a cot. The bedding provided consists of 15 Tog anti-allergy goose feather duvets, pillows, plus blankets and hot water bottles. It has a petite fitted kitchen with 2 ring hob (no oven), kettle, toaster, fridge and all crockery and equipment. Heat is provided by the small log burning stove if you choose to use it. Please note there are NO showering facilities at the hut but there is a private traditional high level toilet original to the hut. The Hut is situated behind our Victorian family home in our garden so you can't see it from the road but we have a sign for the hut at the bottom of the drive to make us easier to spot. There is parking available in the driveway.
Just off the main road (A85) but surrounded by farmland with views to Beinn Cruachan and 2 minutes walk to the village (Taynuilt) centre. Within the village there is a grocers, Post Office, cafe, butcher, hair dressers and Inn, plus the train station. Walk a further few minutes and reach the play park, sports field and the challenging 9 hole parkland golf course. Continue walking and you will reach the shores of Loch Etive.
  • Helen's hut was a unique and interesting Airbnb. Really cosy once you get the little stove going (even in Feb). Very handy if you just want somewhere to stay for one night.

    Audrey2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at the Maids Hut for a night on our way to Glasgow. We immediately got the wood burner going which got the hut really cosy, and we went on to spend the evening playing Cluedo and Monopoly, sheltering from the lighting, thunder, rain and snow! We had a lot of fun staying here! Helen and her family are really hospitable and their dog (who just had puppies!) is adorable. Thanks for the lovely stay and the amazing eggs!

  • Took my daughter off to the West coast for a wee half-term adventure and this turned out perfect for us. It’s pretty tiny but that added to the fun especially when the fire got going. I got slightly carried away adding fuel and the hut was like a sauna by 10pm - the stove really works! The location is fantastic for public transport - the train is cheap and wonderfully scenic from Glasgow, and it’s five minutes’ walk from the station at Taynuilt.

    Victoria2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The maids hut is small, perfectly formed and cosy! The fire is a great feature! it had everything we wanted from our stay no tv, put phones away put radio on lovely view of Ben cruachan. trip round to the pub then back made some food had some wine! Brilliant stay will definitely be returning

    Brian2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Helen, the host, is probably the friendliest person you'd ever meet! The hut was cozy (super warm duvets!), great for 2 people, and had everything for a comfortable stay, including board games necessary for long and rainy Scottish winter nights! We've also got some lovely eggs from the hens that were roaming in the garden - definitely the best eggs I've had since my childhood. Great place, lovely surroundings, and dog friendly, definitely recommended.

  • Loved our stay ! perfect location for some lovely walks . Great value for money quirky rustic and super cozy, excacly what we were looking for . Free coal and wood for the log burner which warmed the whole place up very quickly . Helen had cards and board games also came in handy of an evening over a glass of wine! Thank you for a lovely stay xx

    Elaine2020-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stopover at the Maid’s Hut. It was a bitterly cold January night, but once we had the wood burner going it was cosy in no time. There were even hot water bottles and lots of blankets in case we got cold! Thanks for a lovely stay.

The Kestrel is on Loch Etive, 14 miles from Oban - 9 miles are a lochside, single track road. The scenery is stunning - a beautiful loch and the surrounding magnificent mountains - and tranquil. It's perfect for bikers, walkers, cyclists, anglers and other like-minded people on a touring holiday. The accommodation is a stand-alone mobile home with 2 bedrooms, bathroom, fitted kitchen and living room.
This is a rural and remote location with stunning views over Loch Etive. We regularly see deer, otters, seals & sea eagles!
  • This is a beautiful place to stay. The caravan was beautifully clean, homely and well kitted out. The location is just stunning. Hazel was a great host, friendly and helpful and respectful. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend staying here and we’ll definitely be back for another beautiful holiday.

  • Very nice place to stay

    Hemachandhar2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Larger than we expected for a mobile home. Comfortable beds and really clean, with excellent heating. A really long one-track road to get there, but great views if you get there before dark. Shower area was compact but good water pressure and temperature. Hazel was very responsive to any questions I had and Ian was there to show us around when we arrived. Overall great hosts and a very pleasant stay!

    Samantha2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great fishing location, great hosts

    Gary2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed with Hazel for one night, as a stopover on our way further south. The accommodations were clean and well described in the listing, and Hazel was very flexible when we arrived late for check-in, though it meant we missed the chance of actually meeting her. Despite being a 'mobile home,' this Airbnb was about the same size as my apartment (a hazard of living in New York, I guess) and quite comfortable. Hazel's property is also quite far off the main road, making it an excellent escape into nature if that's what you're looking for.

    Jesse2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful location and fantastic hosts. Worth every penny! Fishing just round the back with stunning scenery, seals, stags and more!

    Melody2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Hazel and Ian's spot is exactly as described, scenic and remote. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and only wish we could have stayed longer.

    Alan & Rosalie2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • If you want complete rest away from life's stress, Hazels place offers this. It's in a great location with fantastic views. Very peaceful with lots of wildlife around. Hazel and Ian are very helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Thanks for a great stay.

  • We had an absolutely lovely time at Susan's made all the better by her hospitality, thoughtful touches and great communication. Would stay again in a heartbeat. Such a cosy wee getaway!

    Kevin2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Susan and Angela's little apartment was the perfect spot for me as I traveled to Scotland for the first time to learn about where my grandparents came from. I really enjoyed the perfect touches of area photos and art work that gave a sense of the area as well as th nice decorations that made me feel at home. The views from the apartment are spectacular. The wee dram of scotch and bread and eggs were a much appreciated welcome to Loch Etive Apartment treat (odd, and the chocolate marshmallow puddings!) I look forward to a return visit!

  • Absolutely perfect for a late autumn weekend getaway. Cosy, wonderful views and conveniently placed for day trips to Oban, Glencoe and surrounds (assuming you have a car!) or for walks around the loch.

WELCOME to TAYNUILT, we feel sure that you will find lots to interest you during your stay. For local history, why not visit Bonawe furnace. Built in 1753, it processed iron ore from the English lake district for 120 years. It is said that cannon balls were made here for the British navy and were fired in the battle of Trafalgar. Indeed , it was in Taynuilt that the first monument was raised by the furnace workers to the memory of Lord Nelson, who fell in the battle. The monument can be seen today on a hill just off the main street. Inverawe Country Park, Fishery and Smokery is only a 15 minute drive away. Here you can fish in their well stocked lochans , explore the nature trails or just enjoy the produce on sale in the shop and tearoom. On a wet day take a trip along to Lochawe to visit Cruachan Power Station and St. Conans Kirk. Cruachan Power Station or "Tha Hollow Mountain" as it is known was the worlds first high head reversible pumped storage hydro scheme. Here you will be driven 1Km into the mountain to witness the large turbine hall. Alternatively, on a dry day and if you are feeling fit, why not walk up the service road to the dam where magnificent views can be had over Loch Awe and the Pass of Brander. St. Conans Kirk is of unique architecture and design and is visited by people from all over the world and is well worth a visit. If Golf is your thing,Taynuilt has a fine 9 hole course and for a change there is also a course in Oban and Dalmally. For local fare, drop into the "Robins Nest" tearoom on the main street for some fine home baking. Or take a trip along to Connel, cross over the bridge and enjoy a meal in the Lochnell Hotel's conservatory dining room overlooking the bridge and Falls of Lora. In the summer months a traditional highland ceilidh is held every week in the village hall. The village store stocks most items and is open from early till late every day. If Iain hasn't got it, he can get it.
  • This is a great flat with a wonderful view and all the amenities necessary. The host Anne makes you feel very much at home and the surroundings are fantastic. I can highly recommend this place for a couple if you’re looking for a getaway in the Scottish nature. It’s located on a supposedly busy connecting road but I didn’t find that there was much traffic (although we stayed in winter, in summer this might be different). Extremely good value for money, highly recommend.

    Peter2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Anne's apartment is lovely. It has all the things you might need to feel comfortable. Well equipped kitchen, games, TV, comfy bed, extra blankets etc. It really is a home from home and we enjoyed our stay a lot. The view from the kitchen is absolutely outstanding and makes washing up a special treat! Would highly recommend for a couple. (might be a bit cramped with more people). Very well located for day trips around the area and a lot less touristy than other areas like loch Lomond. Handy tips and welcoming hosts.

  • Nice cosy place to stay. Close for a day trip to Oban, Fort William. Some nice restaurants in Oban but you can't go past the fresh seafood from the food shack by the ferry terminal.

    Richard2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Anne has a lovely apartment, about an 18 minutes drive from Oban. The place has everything you’ll need: a spacious kitchen and bathroom, a living room and a great (!) bed, and she even put effort in combining local tips and collecting DVDs and books for you to enjoy.

    Bart2019-09-27T00:00:00Z

We loved Taynuilt and the local pub was such a bonus! We visited the Cruachan Mountain and had a tour inside, Angus Gardens (beautiful, tranquil and peaceful) and Conans Church was such an amazing find too! Morven is a great host, she was very kind and helpful right from the start of our initial enquiries to meeting her during our stay.

    Amber Louise2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed here with my husband and 7 month old son in July 2019, and had the best time! Everything was very clean, and there were thoughtful touches like some teacakes and milk. Morven responded to messages very quickly, and she kindly provided a high chair which was great. The place is located in a peaceful little field that’s set away from the main road so it was lovely and quiet. Morven popped by to say hi and made us feel very welcome. I highly recommend staying here and we would definitely come back to stay!

Clachacharra House is an old Victorian house in a quiet part of the village of Taynuilt (12 miles from Oban) nestled at the foot of Ben Cruachan between Loch Etive and Loch Awe. I have two more rooms in the house I let out on airbnb (on different listings) Each room is offered a continental breakfast. Although I live here the rooms are very separate from my living quarters. I have a friendly dog called Benny and a cat called Fluffy. I do hope you decide to visit this part of the world.
  • Set in a quaint little village close to Oban and other major sites, Clachacharra House was the perfect place to stay on our road trip through the Highlands. Pebble was a generous host, with lots of information about the surrounding area. The room was clean and beautiful. Breakfast was delicious in the morning. Our stay here was one of the highlights of our trip.

This delightful 2 room flat, with its own little patio onto the garden, makes the perfect base to explore the surrounding countryside. Adjoining the house, this cosy compact flat, faces southwest and enjoys the most spectacular sunsets. The Patio has its own picnic bench and barbecue.
What I love about Inverawe is that you can open the front door and go straight for a walk in the most wonderful scenery. I love the fact that the surrounding woods are teaming with wildlife and birds. Often you catch a glimpse of a red deer or roe deer, red squirrels and even sometimes the very shy pole cat, while above the buzzards soar higher and higher. Down by the loch there is a whole other life – seals, otters, oyster catchers, cormorants, ducks – wild flowers and fauna everywhere.
Fifteen miles inland from Oban, Inverawe is very central for touring Argyll, be it south to Crinan Canal, Mull of Kintyre and Kilmartin, north to Glencoe and Fort William or west to Oban, the gateway to the islands. A day trip to Mull and Iona is a must. There is so much to see and do. Argyll is a gardeners paradise, along with castles, walks, beaches, magnificent scenery and a Highland welcome.

We look forward to warmly welcoming you to The Farmhouse, a traditional Scottish farmhouse that has nestled in the beautiful countryside near the west coast town of Oban for hundreds of years. Immerse yourself in the experience of living like a local on this authentic highland farm, run by a Scottish family from one of the ancient highland clans. You have the entire use of the farmhouse with its myriad of original features. Relax, unwind and soak up the beauty in this special, peaceful home.
A rustic oil fired range provides you with central heating and hot water, while a wood burning stove provides for a warm and atmospheric lounge. Prepare your meals in a fully kitted out kitchen that includes an electric oven, hob and microwave. Then enjoy time with your friends or family round the dining table. You have a choice to sit and unwind in the lounge or in the conservatory, taking in the lovely views over the fields and hills. A freesat TV is available in the lounge, along with a DVD player. Exposed stone walls and timbers in the living areas downstairs, give a sense of the age and history of the farmhouse. Upstairs, the bedrooms feel warm and cosy with their low ceilings. The master bedroom is ensuite with a toilet, sink and bath. The other two bedrooms share a downstairs bathroom that has a shower, toilet and sink. One of the beds in one of the twin rooms is higher than a standard bed and is not suitable for those with restricted mobility. A large porch provides ample space for boots, shoes and jackets.
The farmhouse is only a short distance from the village of Taynuilt. The village has a pub, restaurant, post office, grocers, butcher, craft shop, hair dresser and tea room. There are lots of nice walks in the area, including directly from the farmhouse. You can go for a stroll along the edge of a sea loch, a wander through a forest or climb a mountain. There are several open gardens in the area worth a visit, as well as castles, the Cruachan hydro electric visitors centre and the Inverawe Smokery.
  • Perhaps the nicest AirBnb we’ve stayed at! The location is lovely, nestled in the hills with nice views over the farmlands to the mountains. The accommodation itself is wonderful; Niall has managed to maintain the traditional rustic feel of the farm yet with all the modern comforts to make it a very cosy and comfy place to stay. Niall’s parents met us and made us feel very welcome, as well as providing some very entertaining conversation and stories! To top it all off we got the chance to meet and feed the sheep, goats, chickens and ducks - who were all very friendly and gentle. If life permits then we’ll certainly be back one day!

  • My parents and I had such a wonderful time here on our long weekend away celebrating a belated birthday. We were very grateful for the Rayburn oil cooker and boiler which kept the house super warm and cosy, alongside the large wood-burner which is a centrepiece in the living room and dining area. The exposed brickwork gave the place a real feeling of authenticity and history and Niall also provided us with fresh duck eggs alongside all the basics that you might need after a long journey. Would highly recommend to anyone who might be considering exploring the local surroundings!

  • Niall's place was one of the highlights of our 2 weeks in Scotland. Exceptional hospitality, beautiful scenery and amazung accommidations

    Betty2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • Truly wonderful stay. Appreciated Niall's hospitality to show us around the house, explained her rich history and even taught us how to lit the fireplace. We woke up next morning refreshed and greeted with rolling green pastures dotted with grazing sheep. The children helped out Grandpa Jim in the farm feeding sheep, chicken and ducks - priceless experience indeed.

    Alan2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place. Wish our plans would have let us stay more than one nite.

    Paul2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • Niall’s home is wonderful! So comfortable and clean, with really thoughtful touches throughout. Out of the 8 different Air BnB’s I’ve stayed in throughout Scotland, this was the best. Interacting with the animals on the farm was definitely a high point. Niall was very responsive and helpful and an excellent host overall. Would love to come back again someday!

Cedarwood Cottage is a small wooden cottage surrounded by croftland, woodland and just a 2 minute walk from the shore of Loch Etive where you can see seals, herons and other wildlife as well as the views up Glen Etive. The cottage has two comfortable bedrooms; a dining kitchen; bathroom and a cosy sitting room with open fire. The cottage sits within a small garden where you can sit and enjoy the rhododendrons in spring and a BBQ in the summer.
The open fire is lovely and cosy and heats the whole house, in addition to the electric central heating. We provide a big bag of Scottish peat, kindling and firelighters. If you wish to purchase more peat during your stay, please let us know. Dog are welcome at Cedarwood Cottage. We do require an additional £40 fee per dog. We provide dog towels and sheets to go over the furniture. We regret that pets are not allowed in the bedrooms.
Cedarwood Cottage lies in the Airds Bay area of Taynuilt village. The village boasts a 9 hole golf course; train station (on the Glasgow to Oban line); play park; Post Office; butchers; grocers; craft shop, delightful cafe (The Robins Nest) and hair salon. Taynuilt is also home to Bonawe Iron Furnace an Historic Scotland property. It is the most complete charcoal-fuelled ironworks in Britain. Founded in 1753, it ceased firing only in the 1870s. Today, displays show every stage of how pig iron was made – as well as cannonballs for use in the Napoleonic Wars. The cottage is just off the shores of Loch Etive where Deirdre of the Sorrows and her lover, Naoise, fled to from Ireland. Maybe you will see them, forever swimming on the Loch as a pair of devoted swans. In the summer of 2018 a monument to their story was erected on the hills behind Taynuilt among the wind turbines. It's well worth the hike. Across the Loch lies Ardchattan Priory founded in 1230 by Sir Duncan MacDougall, of the family of the Lords of Lorn. It was here in 1308 when King Robert the Bruce held what is said to be the last Scottish Parliament ever conducted in Gaelic. Today the ruins of the priory church, now in the care of Historic Scotland, can be seen by accessing them through the Priory gardens. When wandering through the old grave stones, keep a look out for the grave of Scotland's most famous murder victim, the Red Fox!
  • We booked this cottage last minute in order to escape from the rain. The cottage is cozy, well equipped and very clean. You can see horses and chicken from the kitchen window and the shore of Loch Etive is just a 1 min walk from the cottage. There is a nice walk to Taynuilt town, the Taynuilt Inn is also worth a visit. We loved the fireplace in the cottage, especially after a day out in the rain. Communication was great, Helen was very helpful.

  • Spent 3 nights at Cedarwood Cottage and it was a perfect base for unwinding and exploring the surrounding area. Loved the view of the loch down the lane and the ponies next door! Extremely good value for the experience.

    Alison2019-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful stay! From the vase of flowers on the table to the view of horses in the field- everything was perfect. We loved the peat fireplace and the cozy comforters. Helen was so helpful making sure we had everything we need. I would definitely recommend this place to our friends and family and would love to stay here again.

    Kate2019-06-08T00:00:00Z
  • Helen was very responsive with any questions I had and provided excellent directions and recommendations. She was also very flexible with our later arrival. The house was lovely, well appointed, and spotless. Beds were extremely comfortable. Kitchen had all we needed and everything worked perfectly. Hot water worked just as explained and the shower was great. Sitting room was very comfortable with room for all four of us as well as space for laying out luggage that didn't fit in the one smaller bedroom. Definitely walk down the drive to the Loch in the morning for a breathtaking view and relaxing start to your day. At 6:00 am, no sounds but birds and lambs as you look across at spectacular mountains.

  • A lovely apartment for one or two. Very cosy, well equipped and a beautiful setting. The hosts Damon & Renate are lovely; really friendly, helpful people who have a vast knowledge of the area. The village has a great little shop, post office, butchers, train station & hotel - can't ask for much more. I'd love to keep it a secret to be honest, but that wouldn't be fair. Thoroughly recommend.

  • An absolutely gorgeous house and superb view! We loved it! Bright, very stylish but cosy and had everything we needed....once we found the 'hidden' drawer with the bottle opener! The only downside was that it was close to the busy main road (although not on it) which u could hear from outside and no enclosed garden. However, everything else more than made up for it! Lots to do from the door and lovely dog friendly pub a 10min walk away. We would return!

  • This lovely home is perfect in every way. From the minute you walk in, you will feel at home. You will find everything you need in this beautifully designed house with a gorgeous open-plan kitchen sitting/dining-room, comfortable bedrooms and modern bathrooms. The stunning panoramic view over the loch and hills exceeded all our expectations. We had no problem finding the property or using the lockbox as Jess had contacted us earlier to give us clear instructions. We were pleased to meet Jess later and appreciated her helpful advice on using various things in the house and the tips she gave us on local attractions. She had also left us a folder with lots of extra information. The house is in a perfect position with amazing scenery and wonderful tourist attractions in every direction. The village of Taynuilt is also attractive with pretty little local shops, a great hotel and a nearby walk to Loch Etive.

Beautiful 250 yr old cottage, completely modernised. Set in courtyard as part of Scottish Country house. View down Loch Etive to the front.
  • Cottage is great in a small village near Oban, in middle of farms. Damon was always prompt in replying what ever queries and requests we had. It's fully equipped, there is a guide book/suggestions for nearby areas. We enjoyed our stay there. Thanks a lot.

  • I had a great stay at this property. It was clean and comfortable. The host was friendly and provided us with everything that we needed. Thank you!

  • Our few nights at Clematis Cottage was the perfect ended to a wonderful Scottish escape. Although there a few cottages behind the main house we felt peaceful and had plenty of space and were very much left alone to our own devices. The cottage had the perfect amount of space and we felt immediately at home. One warning would be to avoid if you're driving a low riding sports car as the short drive on the property is a bug rough but nothing a standard car etc couldn't handle. The house's location, which we didn't have chance to enjoy, is set in some beautiful hillside grounds with wonderful views and within easy hitting distance of Loch Awe etc.

  • Lovely stay in secluded location with breathtaking views of the loch. Well equipped house for our stay and had a generous hamper on arrival which was a lovely touch. Would highly recommend!

    Melissa2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous house with breathtaking view of the loch. We had a lovely welcome hamper which was handy on the first day when shops are not easily accessible (about 20mins drive away). The house is very private and you have to drive about 5mins off-road which I expected from the previous reviews. There is also Inverawe smokehouse nearby so you can actually smell the salmon being smoked on the way to the house! The house is well heated with plenty of bathrooms to have for oneself! We had barbecue too (beware of midges! Use Avon soft skin oil) I would love to come back to this house, my only regret is having booked three nights and not longer.

    Ji-Ye2019-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic house in a very secluded location. Very well appointed and sparkling clean, with a generous did hamper one arrival. Extensive grounds with private access to the loch. Just be aware that the track to the house is quite long and bumpy.

  • Beautiful house in a peaceful location with fabulous views over Loch Etive. Full of lovely touches such as a marvellous hamper and some great fun games to play. A perfect choice for an extended family get-together.

  • Incredible! Bigger than what the pics show. This was the highlight of our Scottish tour Airbnbs. Bonus: piano

    Andy2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • We wanted to see the island of mull and find this to be a great location. We were only 20 minutes away from the ferry terminal in Oban. Beautiful house tucked in the Scottish countryside.

    Josh2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at the Edwardian Wing! We came in the evening when it was pitch black - an hour later than we expected due to weather conditions and closed roads, but the host was very accommodating and had arranged an easy check-in. The place was a lot bigger than we thought and we loved all the details. Comfy beds and very clean. It was especially fun to play on the piano. In the morning we woke up to discover the surroundings - beautiful scenery and lovely chickens outside. We would definitely come back and maybe stay a bit longer. Thank you for having us!

    Heidi2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Unique place and house, we really enjoyed our stay. Lovely kitchen and living room was absolutely exceptional! The commodity of the rooms are outstanding and the location even better. Same we couldn't spend more time the surroundings but we will difenetly come back. Thank you so much for giving us to live the dream of staying at your place. Regards

  • Beautiful property in a perfect location. Surrounded by lochs, woods and historical sites.

    Niki2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Photos of this place don’t do it justice, it is a very beautiful space with wonderful views of the loch. Because it is an older place the rooms were large and spacious but it never felt too cold and we all had a comfortable nights sleep. The host Damon was also super responsive to our messages and accomodated our needs to help us better take our time to enjoy more of the Scottish Highlands. The only disappointment is that we didn’t book this place for longer we wanted to spend more time here.

    Kieran2019-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • This was a terrific home base for our trip to the Highlands. The Edwardian Wing was incredibly spacious and the property amazing - we fell asleep listening to the noises of sheep and cows, enjoyed eggs from the chickens on-site, soaked in the views, and my kids loved running around and playing on the swings and in the yard. Everything about our stay was comfortable and we would have loved to spend a few more nights here.

Wildlife that you may see includes red deer, roe dear, seals, otters, golden eagles, foxes, red squirrels, pheasants, grouse, wood cock and many others. It barely gets dark in the summer but in the darker months the night sky can be very clear and, if you are lucky, you may see the Northern Lights (install the 'AuroraWatch UK' app for alerts).
There are mountains and hills to climb, tracks to cycle, woods to explore and the sea loch to navigate and fish. There are many local attractions and events within driving distance, including Oban, trips to the islands, beaches, Highland games in the summer, skiing in the winter and many other outdoor pursuits at specialist centres throughout Argyll and the Highlands.

  • This holiday is perfect for friends & families to spend quality time together in the seclusion of the forest, with a stunning view over Loch Etive, but still with the essential access to the internet that some family members cannot do without. The peace & quiet is amazing, the sky at night is spectacular & all within easy reach of the rest of the world! Highly recommended.

  • What a great find - superb location, neat and tidy little cottage with everything anyone could need, and friendly hosts. My 10 y/o daughter loved playing in the woodland outside, and watching the hens. We loved the comfortable beds and the artwork on the walls by Renate. Lovely stay!

    Adam2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • This property is by far the most beautiful stay we had in Scotland. Tucked in an old beech forest, the cottages are comfortable and have everything one needs for a short or long stay. The surrounding area is beautiful: a short walk to a loch, river, and quaint town with a lovely tea shop that has scrumptious baked goodies. Damon is a wonderful host, caring, attentive and readily available, and he’s supplied the cottages with binders full of helpful information for what to do in the surrounding area.

  • Taynuilt is secluded and serene, the perfect place out of the hustle of the day-to-day. Hydrangea cottage is comfortable and lovely and the grounds are so fun to explore! The neighboring farms, loch, and surrounding town are some of the most charming parts of the country we’ve seen! Expect a retreat in its truest sense!

    Maria2019-08-19T00:00:00Z

  • The best place we’ve stayed at in Scotland. An exceptional landscape. A great place to visit Oban and the islands nearby.

    Thomas2019-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the Hydrangea Cottage was a dream! The views from the property are stunning. The access to the gardens and forest from the cottage made our family feel like we were taken back in time. We could hear the sheep in the field and our boys loved the chickens that roam about the property. The game room and DVD library had the kids not wanting to leave Bonawe House. We would absolutely recommend a memorable stay at this property.

This property has a lovely view of the loch as well as the stunning mountain scenery. Loch View has its own private garden area, grassed and with a patio. The beach is just 150 metres away down the owner’s private track.
You have a large livining room, dining area, kitchen, shower room with toilet, twin room and double room with king sized bed and ensuite. Outside there is a enclosed garden with patio area and furniture. A large outside shed with washing machine and room to hang wet clothes and extra storage.
Staying in any one of our properties you will have chosen one of the most stunning areas to visit in the West of Scotland, if not in the whole of Scotland. Choosing Taynuilt (12 miles east of Oban) as your base will be one of the best decisions you make for your Scottish holiday of a lifetime. You have the choice of a cottage style apartment, 3 bedroomed cottage, 3 new log cabins, static caravan or mobile home. Your holiday home has with its own garden, patio and parking area. It is situated on a slightly elevated position 150m from the shores of Loch Etive, the fabulous views from all windows and the garden are just quite simply stunning. There is a seemingly endless list of things for you and your family to do in the area. This whole area is of outstanding natural beauty. The wildlife is probably second to none, eagles, ospreys, otters, basking sharks and deer to name but a few. Not only that, your ways of accessing the wildlife and landscape are endless. Oban or as it's known "The Gateway to the Isles" is just 12 miles away, where you can catch a ferry to numerous locations. Hire kayaks or small boats to explore the coastline yourselves or go one of the many varied boat trips to see seals and puffins. Go walking in the hills, bag a Munro! Or if you fancy doing something different from normal go diving, horse riding, climbing, archery, wind surfing, cycling, gliding, golfing or sailing. Almost every outdoor activity can be done in this area. Or just have a relaxing stroll round one of the many gardens open to the public. The area has many fine restaurants, tea rooms and pubs to enjoy our local produce in. Oban is rightly named the "Seafood Capital of Scotland". This holiday home is ideal for all ages. It is an easy walk to the village which has a Hotel, tea room, Post Office, hairdresser, butcher and grocer (which has a fantastic stock). There is really no need to leave the village if you are needing a peaceful relaxing holiday. The village has bus and train links into Oban or elsewhere. Golf Course, Tennis Court, boat hire, fishing, archery and sports field in the village.
  • Loch view is a beautiful place with spectacular views of Loch Etive. It is a cosy, lovely place situated just about 5 minutes walk from the Loch. When we arrived Ian met us and made us feel welcome and shared some useful local information with us. The place was sparkling clean. Ian & Fiona kindly left a box of essentials (food, toiletries etc) (and some lovely Oban chocolates!) for us which was very convenient until we sorted out our shopping. It was easy to get to Oban and we did a one day trip to Isle of Mull, which I would recommend for anyone visiting. We had a lovely stay in Loch View. We would definitely recommend Loch view to our friends and hope to be back.

  • A wonderful place with lots of room and an amazing view! A nice deck to watch the sunset with friends, an enclosed yard for our dog, and chicken and sheep wandering around the farm on the other side of the fence! We very much enjoyed our time here and Ian and Fiona were great! Highly recommend to anyone wanting to enjoy some quiet, not to far from fun things to do!

All beds are super-king size and the master bedroom has a 7' x 6'6' bed with luxury en-suite bathroom. The house has 6 bathrooms. There is a TV Room with comfortable seating for 16, with smart TV, DVD Player, and log burner. Outside the 2.4m wide deck surrounds the lower floor and is an idyllic space to sit, there are French doors from both the Master bedroom, TV room and Cottage Sitting room. Nature / Otter spotting: We have seen Otters in Ben Dhuirrnish Bay on many occasions. There is a solitary Otter seen quite regularly and we have also seen the female with her cubs and occasionally the father as well (only once see all three and I don't think the female Otter was that happy with the father being there!) These Otter sightings are tide and weather dependent and can not be guaranteed - but I have loads of video film (many occasions 30 minutes plus of video and also some amazing photographs of the otter close-up). With luck and patience it is just a fantastic experience and has made the holiday for many of our guests. Nature / Bird Watching: Resident common gulls, mallard, eider, herons, we also see mergansers and goosanders, little grebes, kingfishers and many other birds including peregrines, merlins, buzzards, hooded crows and further up the loch we have spotted Golden Eagles. Towards the head of the loch there is a seal colony, which can be seen from the Taynuilt Cruise Boat. Fishing / Sea and Fresh Water: Bonawe is a known fishing mark for sea anglers. The Loch has the Scottish record hake, Skate up to 40 lbs, Spurdog and Dogfish. Thornback Ray, Cod and Pollock into double figures and Mackerel, Whiting, Ling, Haddock, Coalfish and other species available. The spurdog fishing in Loch Etive is excellent. The Scottish shore record of 15lb 3oz was caught here in 1991. Fishing in front of the house can be productive with massive shoals of Mackerel coming into Ben Dhuirrinsh Bay and are easily catchable on light tackle from the shore - brilliant fun. Boats can be hired from Taynuilt boat hire and these can be delivered to the jetty at the end of the island - very handy and great fun. Happy Fishing....
Oban is a 30 Min drive from the house it has all the amenities you will need - there is a Tesco (Groceries store) that will deliver to the house https://www.tesco.com/store-locator/uk/?bID=2989
  • Bonawe is an amazing place. It's a beautiful house located in a serene environment. We were amazed about the size of the house. There are 7 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. Serveral seating areas. All very cosy. The house very suitable for multiple couples or in our case six men. Absolutely recommended.

  • This is a perfect big house to spend a wonderful four days with us, I hope I will return here.

  • This is a great house! We have never seen such a well-equipped kitchen. Everything we needed was there and much more that we have never seen before. All beds were comfortable and big enough. On the weekend before our arrival, the owners have set up another bedroom. This was appreciated by us. The decor is very lovingly designed. The view and location is wonderful. In the morning we were awakened by the birds, in the evening we could see the fish jumping. Really idyllic. The bus stop in front of the house is very convenient, the bus ride takes only 45 minutes and leads right to Oban (the taxi back has cost £ 35.- per car). We can highly recommend the house and would love to come back!

  • Huge place. Incredible, quiet location. Three living rooms and two kitchens. Amazing for a big group. Good amenities and kitchen supplies. Bring your own shower soap & shampoo/conditioner. Bed are relatively comfy. I'm a light sleeper and I slept great. Single track road to get to the house. 20 minutes on that road and difficult if you're not used to driving on the left. House is very hard to find in the dark. Be sure to get directions from the owner ahead of time. You will be required to do extensive cleaning before checkout. Make sure to plan for this. We almost didn't have enough time. If you're looking for a quiet retreat for lots of people. This is your place.

  • This is a stunning house in an incredibly beautiful location... the amenities are great - there’s everything you will need for a ‘home from home’ experience. And the views are out of this world!

  • Totally fantastic house , setting and location made our mixed group stay in Scotland very enjoyable even after managing to climb Ben Nevis , would recommend. Five star

  • Pictures don't do justice to this magnificent house. Situated just far enough from Oban to be in the middle of nature, our three families totally six adults and five kids found the house to be the perfect launching point for numerous hikes, exploration of the nearby historic sites, and evenings of cooking, watching wildlife, and drinking whisky. The only complaint we had was there was too much fun stuff to do and we didn't spend enough time at the house.

Beautiful large 3 bed room apartment occupying whole of top floor of main house with stunning views down Loch Etive. Living room, kitchen, 3 bedrooms and a bathroom with a bath and a shower over the bath. There are 2 flights of (steepish) stairs to get up there.
  • Cosy, well maintained and very clean. Had a great selection of DVDs for the evening, a really lovely garden to walk around with a rope swing! Had good kitchen amenities.

  • Very nice place to stay, the appartment is large and very cosy - The location is fine, in a quiet area close to a nice loch. There is a possibility to eat whenever you arrive by buying food, all is done & thought to spend very good time. We would have liked to stay longer !

  • Amazing place at the end of a quiet lane close to the village. Unfortunately we only had one night as a stopping point on our way to Skye. Will definitely book ahead and spend more time here in the future. Great place with lots of room and amazing views. Very easy check in/out. Thanks Damon!

  • Lovely hosts. A superb and spacious apartment on the 2nd floor (narrow staircase, think of heavy suitcases) with countryside and lake views. The house is in the middle of a large park, right next to the site "Bonawe Furnace". Kitchen equipment on top, everything was perfectly clean, even the lounge chairs were "healthy" (no stains, no dust, impeccable, a real treat). And beds ...! XXXL beds, super comfortable, with sheets, duvets, quality pillows, a real pleasure of sleep! In short, a wonderful "place to be", close to Oban and departures for the island of Mull. An excellent memory. Thank you to our hosts, so nice!

The house is beautifully designed and is full of surprises like the sauna which accesses into the birch woodlands. It sleeps eight and our goal has been to make it as family-friendly, comfortable and unique as possible. Sithean is secluded and peaceful, yet is only 2 miles away from Taynuilt, a lovely well-serviced village on the shores of Loch Etive. The West Coast town of Oban, known as 'the Gateway to the Isles', is 8 miles away; from there you can take a ferry to many of the inner and outer Hebridean islands. The location is ideal for walking and cycling for the whole family, and there is an amazing range of wildlife; hen harriers breed in the rough grassland below the house, deer wander down off the heather hill and red squirrels breed in the surrounding oak and birch woodlands. Within walking distance is Angus' Garden, one of the 'Glorious Gardens of Argyll & Bute', which is a beautiful 'wild' garden built around Loch Angus, and like the rest of this glen is a magical unspoilt place. Sithean is self contained and peaceful. It has been designed to sleep six to eight people, and can accommodate two families. This lovely new house has South and West facing dining areas (inside and outside) inluding a new elevated decking area on top of the knoll, and commands spectacular views of Loch Etive and the 'Shepherds of Glencoe' to the North, Ben Cruachan to the East, Morvern to the West and Barguillean Hill to the South. On the entry level there is a porch which is ideally suited for drying wet boots and clothes. This leads on the one side to a shower-room and a double bedroom with a mezzanine and twin beds, and on the other side to the kitchen. The kitchen, dining and living areas are open plan with a vaulted ceiling, and are attractively divided by a split level floor and earth brick walls. The living area has a radio/stereo with ipod, ipod docking station, and a TV and DVD player. Wi-fi is available. There is a wood burning stove in the living area, and under-floor heating throughout the house. Downstairs there is a double bedroom, a twin bedroom and a bathroom with a sauna which has direct access onto a decking area. The design allows an intimate connection with the birch woods from the lower level. The house contains everything you should need for your holiday, including full kitchen facilities (and eggs when available). Sithean meets Category 2 (wheelchair access with assistance) of the VisitScotland Accessibility Scheme for the whole of the entry level. Size: 87 m2. Amenities: TV, Balcony, cooking hob, oven, microwave, toaster, fridge, freezer, internet connection, kettle, Stereo, garden, Fireplace, Sauna, Private parking, Pets are welcome, Lake View, Heating, Wheelchair access possible; Bathroom: toilet, shower; Bedroom: 2 x double bed; Bedroom: 4 x single bed; Bedroom: 2 x double bed; Kitchen
  • We had fantastic time, despite weather challenges. The house perfect for two families. It benefits from plenty of space to relax, admire the view but also socialize. Children can find many interesting board games, toys and books. I would highly recommend it

This property has a lovely view of the loch as well as the stunning mountain scenery. Glen View has its own private garden area, grassed and with a patio. The beach is just 1km away down the owner’s private track.
You have a large living room, dining area, kitchen, shower room with basin and toilet, twin room and double room (king sized bed). Outside there is a enclosed garden with patio area and furniture. A large lockable outside shed with washing machine and room to hang wet clothes and extra storage.
It is situated on a slightly elevated position 1km from the shores of Loch Etive, the fabulous views from all windows and the garden are just quite simply stunning.
  • Nice and clean. Great view of the glen. Very quiet. Short walk to the bay

  • Excellent escape into the countryside that was close to Oban and a short drive for walking in the Trossachs. The caravan was ready for us when we arrived and the views were BREATHTAKING.

  • Fiona's cabin was perfect. The first thing that struck our eye was the lovely view and the quiet surroundings. The structure has all the comforts one might need, is exceptionally clean and modern. It's strategically located, with lots of activities and stores in the nearby area. Perfect to explore the southern highlands or to recharge the batteries. My suggestion is to book it without hesitation.

  • Glen View was lovely. Clean and functional with the most amazing view of the loch and valley from the living area. Ian and Fiona came to visit to make sure all was ok and everything really was ok - couldn't be faulted. Easy commute by car into Oban (about 10 miles) and a perfect place to stay. Will be booking again for my next visit to Taynuilt.

Clachacharra is an old Victorian house in a quiet part of the village of Taynuilt (12 miles from Oban. Nestled at the foot of Ben Cruachan between Loch Etive and Loch Awe. The house has two other rooms (with a shared bathroom) I let out on airbnb. Each room is offered a continental breakfast. Although I live here the rooms are very separate from my living quarters. I have a friendly dog called Benny and a cat called Fluffy. I do hope you decide to visit this part of the world.
The house is in the village centre, where we have a convenience store, butchers, tea room, hairdresser, post office and small golf course. The village pub has just re-opened under new management after being closed for one year. (29/05/19)
  • The stay was absolutely wonderful! The Victorian style house is well decorated and fit with similar furniture - which we absolutely loved! Great breakfast in the morning and the dog and cat on the property were a lot of fun! Pebble was most welcoming and made our stay wonderful.

  • Amazing hidden place. Pebble‘s place was beautiful and she was super helpful. Going to the local Pub was an amazing experience, as we got the real Scottish Pub Culture and met interesting locals. A Must for those who are not into boring touristic stuff.

  • At Pebble's victorian house you'll feel like home. The neighbouring area is stunning with great lake, and peace and quiet. Also the breakfast in the morning was delicious.
