  • Kelly and John’s studio is an absolute delight. Light filled, private and warm. Bedding so comfortable could have stayed for a week! Kelly was very gracious with unexpected people arriving on my daughter’s wedding day. Would highly recommend this lovely space and hosts for anyone wanting a tucked away sanctuary.

It is a traditional Bruny Shack built in the 1930's with heaps of character, perfect for a relaxed beach holiday with an open fire for those cold winter days.
Dennis Point is a small quite beachside town. While there is a good Cafe and Art Gallery, their is no petrol station and few grocery supplies are available.
  • A character cottage in a wonderful location.

  • Spectacular location right on the beachfront. Views to die for. Richard’s cottage is cosy and comfortable with lots of thoughtful extras.

    Mandy2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a beautiful, peaceful, relaxing time in this gorgeous beach cottage! It just has such authentic character. Irregardless of the weather being bright & sunny... or the howling gale we experienced for 24hrs, it was so snug and comfortable. We loved the thoughtful personal touches - the full woodshed, and the availability of cooking necessities. The outlook, that changed so many times during the day, was stunning. The ever-changing view was mesmerising.

    Madeleine2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fabulous week at Red Gate Cottage. Such a peaceful hideaway, with the beach literally on your doorstep. An authentic beach shack, but with all the comforts of home and super cosy. The bed, with its luxurious doona & quality linen made for some beautiful, restorative nights’ sleeps. And then to wake up in the morning, pull back the curtains & enjoy the views from the comfort of bed! Heavenly!! We especially loved our daily visits from 2 cute little eastern quolls - extinct on mainland Australia, but these two were very cheeky & we felt really lucky to experience wildlife at our doorstep! Can’t recommend Redgate Cottage enough!

    Pam2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second stay at Red Gate Cottage so that tells you something. If you love being able to walk right into the sand from the house as well as enjoy the best view from a bedroom you’ll ever have, this comfy little cottage is for you. We love its location and its cosiness and the fact that the basics are provided. This visit won’t be our last.

    Penny2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • The location is amazing and the cottage comfortable and very well equipped. We had everything we needed, and were lucky with great weather. The view is amazing, the area quiet with a gorgeous beach just steps away.

  • A slice of magic. This is your place on Bruny.

  • A gorgeous traditional shack with the beach literally out the front door. Richard’s place is perfect for a relaxing beach getaway and had everything we needed to kick back and unwind. Naturally, it was very hard to leave.

Beautiful, light, newly decorated cottage located on owner's land with chooks and two friendly dogs. Log fire, air con. Views of bush and sea and wildlife in abundance . Our place is a haven for birds and wallabies. Fifteen minute walk to Snug Beach. Local amenities ten minute walk. Snug Falls close by. Tranquility in abundance. Huon Valley and the beautiful town of Cygnet both within easy reach by car and the Bruny Island ferry port only ten minutes away.
Cottage is equipped with games, cards and books. We endeavour to make sure there are basic condiments along with tea and coffee of course. Fresh towels and linen provided.
We are lucky to have Snug Beach so close. A beautiful and generally, very quiet bay and only a fifteen-minute walk away. Alternatively, Coningham Beach is a five or six minute drive. Also within walking distance is a local IGA that sells everything, the Snug Tavern and bottle shop and a lovely Chinese restaurant that is open for lunch and dinner. They also sell delicious ice creams. Check out the Lavender flavour, made direct from the beautiful lavender farm at Margate. We have our very own Butcher who is famous in the region and 8 minutes in the car, the Margate train is a must, with the best antiques, pancakes, ice-creams and lolly shop. If chocolate is your thing, travel 7 minutes in the car (on the way to the Bruny Island ferry) and stop at the Woodbridge chocolate shop. Chocolates to die for. Further afield is Huonville and Cygnet, both very much worth a visit for museums and art and fresh produce. You’ll be spoilt for choice for vineyards on in the Huon Valley and don't forget to check out Willy Smith's apple shed that boasts every type of cider. For something naughty, try the famous woodfired bakehouse in Cygnet. Although there is plenty of walking, (maps and directions provided), a scenic drive will take you past some spectacular scenery and out of the way cafes. Head towards Egg and Bacon bay and have a cheeky gin tasting session at Grandvewe or stop for a coffee or dinner at Peppermint Bay.

Set in the middle of Bruny Island this up-cycled Hut set on a small hobby farm right next to Bruny Island Cheese and Beer Co, a short walk to Get Shucked Oyster Farm and directly opposite spectacular Great Bay Beach. This space is set up for one or two people to relax and enjoy the highlights of Bruny Island. It offers simple clean amenities and a well equipped kitchen. It is a warm private space with beautiful views across the paddocks and out to Great Bay.
Hut#4 is based on a small operational farm that overlooks the water. The farm produces lambs for meat and vegetables for sale at a small roadside stall. There is plenty of room for guest parking, an outdoor fire space and a pot belly stove that warms the space and creates ambience. The bathroom has a flushing toilet, running hot water, full sized shower, quality towels, shampoos and soaps. The Kitchen has all you need to be self sufficient for your stay, a full sized fridge, gas cook top and small on bench oven. Breakfast can be provided at additional cost of $20 and consists of cereal, milk, coffee, tea, eggs, bread, fruit and other fresh in season produce, enough for 2 people. Please advise if you have any dietary requirements. A double bed with fresh quality linen, lounge, small dining table, tv's and small stereo that is compatible with most smart phones will have you feeling at home at Hut#4.
Great Bay is a quiet settlement on the water. There is a mixture of full time residents, shack owners and in peak times a few tourists. It is mostly low density sheep farming on the land but Great Bay has many oyster farms located within it's waters. The beach at Great Bay is on the channel side of Bruny Island making the waters calm and still most of the time. There is long shallow sand flats running out for 100m or so creating a wonderful swimming spot in summer. Next door to our property is the Bruny Island Cheese and Beer Co which is a great spot to grab a nice coffee or something to eat. A short walk north takes you to Get Shucked where you can watch the oysters being farmed, harvested and split fresh for one of the most authentic paddock (or ocean) to plate experiences you will find. There is also a great deal to explore on Bruny Island, all of which is not too far away.
  • Charming, quirky and rustic, with everything you need, plus a great view. Hosts were welcoming and helpful. Highly recommended.

  • We loved our stay in hut#4. A fabulous hut and base to explore bruny island from. A great location on a farm but right beside some of Brunys best attreactions. So quiet and a chance to enjoy the natural setting. Very cosy and comfortable in the cool weather.

  • This simple accommodation was in an ideal, very quiet location. Although small it worked very well with a good bed, shower and good cooking facilities. The rural outlook was lovely to wake up to and suited us well.

  • Hut4 was such a clean and cozy place, it provided all we needed for our stay. We in particular enjoyed sitting outside around the fire admiring the view. It is in an excellent location on the island, we would definitely stay again and recommend it to others.

AERIE retreat. A private designer apartment in the bush by the water. Walk down to the private Wilderness Deck for exclusive use of the Timber Hot Tub, Sauna and fire pit. Access to the waterfront marine reserve is also exclusively available for our guests. A brilliant spot to stay summer or winter. Watch the winter full moon rise over the ocean from the hot tub and sauna.
AERIE private wilderness retreat is a bespoke designer apartment with all the quality and none of the nonsense. Enjoy the wood fired sauna, Sea Water Timber Hot Tub or just relaxing in front of the fire pit overlooking the ocean and Bruny Island. The experience staying at AERIE is all about relaxation, wilderness and water. Situated on the waterfront amongst the tree tops, AERIE overlooks Bruny Island, Storm Bay, D’Entrecasteaux Channel and the Iron Pot lighthouse at the mouth of the Derwent River. Down a path and around 50 steps is the wilderness deck, perched amongst the trees above the cove. Here you have a large purpose built timber deck, fire pit, sauna, and timber hot tub, all heated by fire, and all built for the best wilderness health and relaxation experience you can find. The hot tub is filled fresh with sea water for each guest and is pre lit and ready for you to use. The sauna can be fired up as you wish, it is pre set and ready to go. From the wilderness deck there are more steps down to the private little Pilot Cove and Tinderbox Marine Reserve, this is the only way other than by boat to reach this part of the reserve. A brilliant spot for a spot of morning yoga and some of the best snorkelling in Tasmania. Sea Eagles are a regular visitor that hunt in the marine reserve, so keep an eye and an ear out. The apartment was architect designed and purpose built. The interior, the furniture, the artwork was all hand crafted just for this one apartment. Solid timber and leather features with some funky but easy to live with lighting that makes this the most unique and relaxing place to stay. Parking is right outside the apartment the kitchen is self contained with a microwave, stove top, sink, fridge and dishwasher. In the bathroom, the bath, shower and toilet have one of the best views you can get. No TV or internet (although sadly your phone will work) just relax on the hand made leather couches, soak up the view, watch the boats and the birds go by. A few hundred meters up the road is a free public tennis court and Piersons Point lookout. A further two kilometers down the road is Tinderbox beach, vineyard, boat ramp and moorings with a small BBQ shelter. Don’t come here if you don’t want to walk up and down a few steps (quite a few!), cant light a fire and you don’t like spending some time relaxing. You can’t fish from this property as it’s in a Marine Reserve, Parties or other guests visiting you will need permission. We live on the property so if you have any questions or require assistance with the sauna or hot tub we can help you out. Our house is 100m away from the apartment and the wilderness deck so you have plenty of privacy, the entire wilderness deck, sauna, hot tub, and cove track are exclusively yours. People find this an ideal place to stay after the day at MONA, spend the evening in the tub and sauna before an early morning snorkel in the marine reserve. 30 minutes form Hobart, 10 minutes up the road is the Blackmans Bay “Hill Street Grocer” a brilliant spot to stock up for a few days. Also at the same Bayview Shopping Centre is a bottleshop baker, newsagent, sushi, hairdresser, pharmacy.
  • Amazing, stunning property, great hospitality, best BNB we have been to, to date. Will be staying again.

  • I can’t imagine a better reflection of Tasmania. The outlook, architecture and unobtrusive approach to guests being able to enjoy the location is brilliant. We’ve already suggested friends come to Tasmania just for this. Thanks so much mate!

    Allison2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, what a gorgeous space! As a fellow Tasmanian I was so excited to see this place and it was even better than I had anticipated. Enjoying the beautiful views and sounds of birds in the hot tub, the adventures of exploring the property and its architecture, and watching the sunrise from bed in the morning we’re just some of the highlights! I’d definitely come again- thank you so much!

  • An absolutely amazing property, didn't want to leave!! Thank you for sharing it with us! Would highly recommend!

    Kate2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay. Braye gave us our privacy but answered any messages promptly. The indoor space was super comfortable with some really good design ideas, but it's the outdoor deck with cedar hot tub, fire pit and sauna down amongst the gum trees overlooking the water where we spent most of our time. Just pick up some groceries at Hill Street Grocer at Blackmans Bay on the way from Hobart, settle in and enjoy the peace.

    Susan2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing house all you could have imagined and more. Thoroughly recommend it. Braye was a fantastic host

    Mark2020-02-29T00:00:00Z

    Hanna2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • This place is paradise! A beautiful location, stunning views, with stylish architecture that respects the landscape. The sauna and hot tub were sublime. The steps down to the water front are a nice touch! Perfect hosts who have thought of everything to make your stay comfy and chilled. A very hard place to leave. We hope to come back again!

A private getaway just 30 minutes from downtown Hobart, with views over Oyster Cove to Bruny Island. Ideal for a peaceful family getaway, or a romantic retreat. Stay in a modern architect-designed home that is very comfortably furnished and has everything you need provided. Every bedroom has picturesque views over the surrounding bushland and water, a built-in or walk-in robe and, most importantly, an incredibly comfortable bed to guarantee a wonderful night’s sleep.
The house has ducted heating with a separate fire, and the bathrooms have underfloor heating. In the summer, you can eat on the NE-facing deck (outside table/benches and Weber BBQ provided, as well as separate chairs and sun lounger), and in the winter, in the large open-plan kitchen and dining area overlooking Oyster Cove. The well-appointed kitchen has quality appliances including induction cooktop, microwave, and a butler's pantry, and has plenty of utensils provided. And if you do need to get some work done, there’s a separate study. There are some great places to eat and drink nearby, including on Bruny Island. The ferry wharf is a few minutes’ drive away. When you need supplies, the Oyster Cove Fruit & Vegetable (and much more) store is back on the main road, or you can drive a few minutes more into Kettering. For a full supermarket shop, the big supermarkets in Kingston are just 15 minutes away. From the property, there are numerous local walking options. You'll often see wallabies and echidnas wandering around enjoying the peace and quiet. You can venture further afield using the two bikes provided as well… but you might be happiest just chilling out at the house. If you have a young family, we have two campbeds (comfortable ones) for young kids, and a portacot, high chair, and baby bath for even younger ones. All those beds are additional to those listed under specific bedrooms on this listing. The campbeds would need to be set up in a bedroom, though, as the living area does not have curtains or blinds. Please do come and visit our little piece of tranquillity just half an hour from Hobart.
  • What a place to unwind! Definitely would visit again. Shucked delicious oysters off the rocks. Hiked up Hartz peak (highly recommend) and say by the fire with 6 women and chatted. It was blissful! Thank you!!

    Amy2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous views of Oyster Cove from all through the house. Large house with all the amenities you will need for a relaxing weekend off the beaten track. The house is in a great spot if you want to go across to Bruny Island for a day trip. Also recommend Peppermint Bay hotel for lunch or dinner.

    Chrissy2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • The views during daytime and the stars at night are just fantastic! The house itself is very comfortable, especially the huge couches. There is a great small grocery store very close by (where you turn off from Channel Hwy) and wallabies jumping in the garden.

  • We found Shuckers Retreat to be everything we expected and more. We were a family of 6 adults and we were delighted with the location and amenities. Everything was clean and of a high quality and with extras like pantry food items in case you ran out. The house was well designed for privacy if needed and with great views from every room. We give Shuckers Retreat our highest score. Alan + Val

    Belinda2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • This place will blow you away! It’s your accommodation and destination wrapped up in one. Great cottage, great location, great view. Our hostess Kim was very helpful and incredibly accommodating. We spent both nights with cute little wallabies and pademelons surrounding our cottage and we enjoyed rainforest walks on the property.. short drive to Bruny Island Ferry and beautiful Cygnet/Huon Valley. Extremely special!

    Henry2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful small home beautifully appointed with loads of thoughtful touches and freebies ( Kim’s home made brownies, some food basics etc). Kevin was really helpful and even posted our forgotten water bottle back home to Sydney. Seeing the wildlife surround the place at night was great and no light pollution made the night sky mind blowing

    Howard2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Kim and Kev’s cottage is stunning. Super well appointed with luxury at every turn. Everything has been thought of so you can have a cosy and relaxing experience. Kim was great with her communication and introduced us to her wildlife family (the wallabies) that drop by around dusk each day. They are friendly enough to feed from your hands. Note that the wallabies and Pademelons do have a tendency to enjoy the balcony and porch as much as you will, so you might hear a few noises during the evening as they hop from one side to the other. That however is all part of the charm of this beautiful bush setting. With signposted walks on the property and food & drink provisions for a hearty breakfast provided, it was tempting to just stay in and forget about visiting the surrounding area. Next time I think we will book an extra couple of days.

    Brendan2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Misty Ridge is a peaceful cottage perched high up on the hill with views over the channel to Bruny Island. We stayed for 5 nights and recharged ourselves in the natural surroundings. The location could not be better for us, so peaceful and Kim went above and beyond with all her tasty cottage supplies :) Its great base to explore the Huon Valley.. We can not recommend highly enough!!!!

  • We spent 4 days at Christiane’s Snug retreat and we loved it. The house is located near Snug Falls and is secluded and peaceful with gorgeous views across the Channel. It is clean, spacious and very comfortable. Christiane has thought of everything around the kitchen so it is really easy to cook your own meals. Every tool or gadget, spice or condiment is on hand, and she has a “mini” shop with every essential ingredient you might forget to purchase, including delicious Tassie wines, available to purchase. Close to all major attractions and towns in this part of Tassie and highly recommended.

  • The Snug Falls B&B is incredible value! We stayed last week to visit family in Hobart. The views are picturesque, it was a beautiful place to wake and enjoy the calm surroundings. Huge efforts have been made to ensure you feel at home here, from fresh food, a stocked pantry, to lux bathroom products, and slippers and throws to rug up, it was a truely relaxing and great value. No doubt we will be back again

  • If you are after some peace and mindfulness and just read your book or so COME AND STAY here..... I promise you LOVE.

    Melanie2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Everything about this bnb is outstanding. The location, lodgings and the hosts. Location is just lovely, set in the hills surrounded by nature with views to just sit and savor. Lodgings have to be experienced to believe, everything you could possibly want is supplied. Hosts just lovely. Christiane is friendly, generous yet respecting of your privacy. This is a must stay. Thank you Christiane and family

    Fran2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • What a gem of a place. Christiane was there to greet us when we arrived and helped us plan for our outings. The place is super clean and the surroundings are stunning with magnificent views of the bay. To be honest, I would plan my next trip based on the availability of this place.

    Nikhil2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Christiane's house is above and beyond our expectations. It locates in rural bushland overseeing sea in distance. The view is stunning. If you are looking for a quiet holiday away from busy city life and at the same time enjoying a high standard of living style and quality this is the right place. The house is stylish and all electrical appliances are modern and sophisticated. Consuming products are of high quality and environmental friendly. It is a home away from home indeed. We even canceled our outing plan just to spend a lazy day in the house. It worths every cent.

Dennes Point offers a gentle beauty with stunning mountain views across Nebraska Beach featuring ‘must see' sandstone cliffs, a short walk from BBH. The sea offers up a constant supply of oysters and mussels and good fishing, if that is your fancy. At the rear of the house is an oval and tennis court for leisure activity and bush views. • No photo can do justice for the views. This is the place to unwind

  • A hop, skip and a jump to the beach! Beautiful space, awesome views out of all windows, comfortable and cosy. Very practical, everything you could possibly need for a trip away. Highly recommend this Airbnb.

  • The photos do not do this place justice. Amazing views, gorgeous little house that has everything you could possibly need. We are already plotting our next trip here.

    Kate2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Bruny Beach House in early March. The accommodation is the perfect beach house, with incredible access to the beautiful coastline just seconds away. Internally, it’s light and spacious with everything you could need for a short or long term visit.

    Duncan & Kathy2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful place. Sun, sea, beach and wildlife.

    Katharina2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Bill’s place is exactly as described, if not better. The view is spectacular and we were visited by wallabies and even a quoll! The kitchen is well equipped, the beds comfortable and the house warm. Denny’s Point is very quiet. It takes about 30-45 mins to drive to most of the recommended walks, and about 1.25 hours to drive to the lighthouse. Bring all your food as there is very limited supplies on the island.

    Katherine2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Bruny Beach House is everything you could want in a beach shack. Simple, tasteful beauty, privacy, a stone's throw from a stunning swimming beach, and a view to die for. Simply pack your beach things, food and drink and prepare to have the perfect break.

    Andy2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • If you want to 'get away from it all', look no further. The Bruny Beach House is the perfect quiet little oasis. It's exactly what we wanted to enjoy our overnight stay on Bruny. Don't miss the sunsets, incredible! Thanks Bill, we'll be back.

  • Tara's place is a real gem. We have stayed in many Airbnb's all over the world and this would have to be one of the best we have stayed in. Everything is fresh and spotlessly clean and Tara has clearly thought about guest comfort when fitting out the place. The bed was very comfortable, the linens and towels were excellent quality. The kitchen has everything you would need to be able to cook a meal. There is a pub and supermarket a short walking distance away. A fabulous stay.

    Gail2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Tara and Micah's place is lovely. It was super clean, the beds are comfy, there were extra touches... it really had everything you could need plus more. Thanks for having us.

  • Tara and Micah's place is perfect. The location is great for getting to see beautiful parts of Tasmania, and the house itself is wonderful. Tara and Micah were both so welcoming, with very thoughtful touches in the house for the guests, and they were very respectful. Make no hesitation to book if you are looking for a place in this part of Tasmania, we would have loved to stay for so much longer! Thanks again!

Chris and Sue welcome you to their home, nestled in the secluded & peaceful surrounds of the Kettering hills, with views to Bruny Island, Mt Wellington & North West Bay. Your modern, split-level & fully self-contained cottage is the best location to explore the Bruny Island, D'Entrecasteaux Channel & Huon Valley regions. A few minutes drive to the Bruny Island ferry & only a 30 minute drive to Hobart city. Enjoy your tranquil garden setting, where bird song & wildlife abound.
You will find a stylish, modern & very well equipped cottage with full kitchen facilities, separate laundry and en-suite bathroom. The cottage is very cosy, with double-glazed doors and windows, full insulation, air conditioning and an electric blanket (main bed). Extra bedding is provided for the sofa-bed, if requested prior to arrival. The cottage features its own private courtyard garden, carport, undercover deck area and BBQ facilities.
The Channel, Bruny Island & Huon Valley region is chock full of things to do, see, eat and drink. Around Kettering, we have the Seawall, Steam House and Bruny Gateway Cafes, Pashas Indian Restaurant, the Peppermint Bay Restaurant in Woodbridge and of course the famous Nutpatch Chocolatier. For a local fine dining experience, we recommend Howden Villa in Howden, near Margate (15 minutes drive). Our Bruny Island favourites include Bruny Island Cheeses, Get Shucked Oysters, Bruny Island Premium Wines (ie. dining, tastings, sales), the South Bruny Lighthouse, the House of Whiskey and of course the 'must do' Bruny Island Cruises run by Pennicott Adventures. The Huon Valley boasts a range of wineries and ciders, as well as many bush and coastal activities and a fantastic selection of eateries and local produce. Please make sure you check out our online Guidebook for all our recommendations. A paper copy is also provided in your Welcome Package.

  • We loved our 5 night stay. A perfect respite from NSW fires and smoke. Didn’t see Chris or Sue, but had good communication with them. Very thoughtful interactions. Fabulous cottage and location; as shown in the pictures (better in fact). Great space. Quiet, secluded, private. Lovely furnishings. Comfortable bed & pillows. Great array of kitchen implements. Lots of resources to help make a meal (eg. Rice, sauces, etc). Washing machine and rack were great assets to those who have been travelling a while. Lots of little, thoughtful extras eg. torch, DVDs, magazines & books, bug spray, hose, tissues, scissors. This is definitely a five star, super establishment. Can’t recommend it highly enough!

It has a cosy log fire, large parking area, private deck off the bedroom, outdoor BBQ, TV and ipod dock, books and magazines, movies and games, WiFi internet access and your own kitchen and bathroom. Couples and singles only - we do not accommodate babies, children, pets or additional guests sorry. The bathroom has a shower over the bath, toilet, vanity and a washing machine. There are various options if your prefer to eat out, including pub meals at the Oyster Cove Marina (no meals on Sunday nights), Bruny Island Gateway Cafe at the ferry terminal, Steamhouse Cafe, or go to the local sheep cheesery (Grandvewe) and cook yourselves up a storm in the fully equipped kitchen (basic condiments provided - salt/pepper/milk/oil, etc). A cash only pizza trailer (Zeps) is currently operating in Kettering Friday and Sat nights (details on the fridge). Alternatively it's only 10mins drive south to the award winning Peppermint Bay for drinks/meals on the waterfront in nearby Woodbridge (check hours). The townships of Kingston, Cygnet and Huonville are only a short drive and there is also a local store with basic groceries and fuel at the end of our road and a small grocer at oyster cove (typically open until around 7pm). It is a pleasant but longish walk from the house). Kettering is what you might call comfortable bush living, with a large marina down the road and is the jumping off point for gourmet and beach travelling on Bruny Island. Golfing guests with your own clubs - there is a very well maintained and scenic (overlooking North West Bay) 18 hole golf course only 15 mins drive away. For public access times check with North West Bay Golf Club.
Rural community living at its best, just half an hour out of the capital city and 2 minutes drive to the water. Sharing our home with an abundance of wildlife.
  • We stayed in this wonderful cottage only for a couple of nights, but after heading off to Hobart we regretted not having stayed longer there. It felt so cosy inside with the wood burner and the beautifully decorated interior. The jacuzzi outside was unquestionably the icing on the cake. What’s more, our hosts responded quickly to all our enquiries and therefore we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. We would definitely come back again!

Situated on the quieter more intimate end of Bruny Island this charming, eclectic beach house was built with an artists eye using many recycled materials . It is a relaxed, romantic, light filled sea side home and peaceful retreat. Perched amidst the privacy of the tree tops, wander down thru its rambling bush garden and cross the road onto a gorgeous gentle swimming beach. The panoramic outlook and wonderful water views invite you to sit back, unwind and watch the clouds roll by.
This lovely sea side home set in a coastal bush garden at Dennes Point offers relaxation, peace and comfort, with wonderful all round views, expansive sunny decks and great access to the beach, walks and swimming just a stones throw away. Cloud garden has a timeless quality, owner- built by an artist using a mix of new and recycled materials and fitted out with interesting finds , paintings and a few old world treasures. It has a few quirks and plenty of character but most of all it has a lovely feeling. The large open plan living space has vaulted ceilings, a wood fire heater that amply heats the whole space, a grand old chandelier that twinkles above the dining table, french doors leading into a separate bedroom, a spacious bathroom and separate laundry. There are two decks. A large north facing deck has oversized chairs where you can curl up with a book, as well as a BBQ and a dining table with views across the water. From here you may also spot an array of native birds and the occasional wallaby, quoll and resident echidna that regularly visit the rambling bush garden . The smaller west facing deck is a great place to catch in the late afternoon sun , enjoy arvo tea or an evening drink and watch the sunset across the D’Entrecasteaux Channel. The home made ( but very well equip) kitchen has ample prep space, a good sized fridge for all your supplies and Champagne glasses - the essentials in life! Ideally suited for couples, small families , solo travelers or friends traveling together Cloud garden has two beds- a double and a single , both with comfortable, supportive mattresses. The sheets may not necessarily match,in fact very little matches in this house, but all fresh 100% cotton linens are supplied along with some nice feather pillows. There are mosquito nets above the beds and wire screens on windows where the sound of gentle lapping waves flow in on a warm summers night. Cloud Garden also has a washing machine, TV/ DVD, CD player, books, DVDs, straw hats, wet-suits, fishing bucket/ oyster knife, day pack, thermos etc... all the homey touches of a well loved beach house that you are welcome to use during your stay. As a relatively recent build Cloud Garden is extremely ergonomic, very well insulated and solar passive . Winter sun fills the main living area for most of the day but less so in summer because of the overhanging eaves. In the summer months there are shade blinds for the decks , a large ceiling fan in the central living space and most often a sea breeze will flow through the house. Cloud Garden has solar panels, rainwater tanks, compost bins and we aim to recycle, re-use and repurposed as much as possible. Like all homes on this island, Cloud garden relies solely on the heavens for its water supply. Our rainwater is pure, clean and excellent for drinking but also finite so I would be most grateful if guests are mindful of this precious resource and are water wise during their stay. The combination of wonderful views, sense of peace and tranquility, access to the water, personal touches , individual character and beautiful surrounding environment make it a special place to spend time. Sorry no WiFi but we get excellent mobile reception( we are not in one of the island's black spots*) . * Good reception with Telstra and Optus networks. Things may have changed but when a friend visited a couple of years ago she got no reception at all, on any part of Bruny with Vodaphone network!.
Local Area On foot: If you make your way down through the bush garden path you will cross the road onto a lovely swimming beach ( child friendly) which is also great for kayaking and snorkeling around the rocks. There are several other nice beaches within walking distance. Head north along the beach front and in 5-6 minutes you will see steps leading up to the local café and gallery (The Jetty Cafe) that keeps seasonal hours so check the website. It serves espresso coffee, breakfast and lunch. You can book for Friday night fish and chips and it has some very basic supplies such as milk and newspapers. If you keep walking an extra minute you will see our local jetty where you can fish for squid or flat-head . You will find a fishing bucket and rod in the laundry, oyster knife and fish scale tool in the kitchen (BYO own squid jig). If you keep walking another couple of minutes north along the beach you will see a gate leading into a paddock (it’s okay to enter) and follow the path and history trail signs . Make your way around the tip of the island to ocean cliffs on the eastern side of the island (wonderful at sunrise!). Suggest you wear long pants walking through this grassy area in the summer months. Alternatively you can head south at the bottom of Cloud garden : turn left and walk along the beach front road or around the rocks at low tide and you will reach the very beautiful Nebraska beach- an exceptionally long beach dotted with Shacks, where there are sandstone caves at its southernmost end ( this is a good 40 minute walk there and back) . You might find a few oysters on the rocks at low tide. Further afield- Beyond Dennes Point North Bruny is the less touristic end of the island, so it is generally quieter, and many travelers prefer this, but it can also serve as a good base for exploring the rest of Bruny Island. Jump in the car and head around the point along Killora Road to cruise around the back roads of nearby Barnes Bay. OR for a longer outing, head to the South Island along Main Road back to the Dennes point turn off, and turn left . You will pass an Oyster Bar ‘Get Shucked’ at Great Bay (they make a good Bloody Mary). Bruny Island Honey supplies are located on your way to The Neck. Climb the stairs at the Neck for a spectacular lookout over north and south Bruny. There are many lovely day walks in the national parks (through bush, rain forest and coastal trails) on South Bruny Island. I recommend Cape Queen Elizabeth at low tide or Fluted Cape (steeper but spectacular). * Feel free to borrow the Thermos under the kitchen sink and the small back pack in the laundry for your excursions. There is a good surf beach for swimming at Adventure Bay. There is a surf break at Cloudy Bay but be prepared to be fully wet suited and it is best suited to experienced surfers. The lighthouse on South Bruny is quite a drive but there can be spectacular sunsets in winter around 4.30pm with snow-capped mountains in the distance on a clear evening. On South Bruny there are several tourist facilities if you feel like a bit more worldlier interaction. There is a pub, shop, pharmacy and health center at Alonnaha and a winery further south. Pennicott Wilderness boat tours ( need to book ) , a chocolate factory and tiny local museum are in the vicinity of Adventure Bay where you will also find a well-stocked general store with take away food and petrol pump.

Due to government recommendations to “socially isolate” you might want to look for a nice place where to runaway from the stress and stay safe. Located on Killora Road, North Bruny, our cottage is the perfect option. We have great discounts for long stays, just contact us! Built in the 1860's but newly-renovated, the cottage has 1 Bedroom, dining room / kitchen, living room and bathroom/laundry/WC, with shower and claw foot bath. Minimum two days staying, suitable for couples.
This is a quiet, cosy and beautiful clean English style character cottage located in a secluded paddock. If you are looking for a great place to stay for a few quiet relaxing days in a great part of Tasmania then this is the place. It is just perfect for a country getaway for two.
The cottage is located in 10 acres natural bushland resounded by country houses, farms and beautiful landscape. Bruny Island is the perfect destination for those who appreciate outdoor activities amidst the rugged beauty of unspoilt bushland and beaches. Cliffs and sea surfing (Cloudy Bay is approximately 30 mins drive from cottage. Bruny Island is also a popular destination for fishing (cast a line from the rocks or jetty, or launch your tinny from Alonnah or Adventure Bay boat ramps) and swimming (choose from the many surf and sheltered beaches around the island).
  • My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our time on Bruny Island in no small part thanks to the generous hospitality of Edwin and his team. The location is truly stunning and the funishings beautiful and antique to suit the style of the place. If you looking for peace and quiet away from the pace of modern life, look no further.

Breakaway is a beautifully located holiday home above Nebraska Beach at Dennes Point, on the sunny northern tip of Bruny Island. The property sits on a bush block, home to many bird species and the occasional quoll or echidna. Open-plan living areas and vaulted ceilings create an appealing sense of space and light. Double-glazed doors open out to a west-facing covered deck, providing panoramic views of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel. The water and sunset views from here are impressive.
Enjoy the warmth from the free-standing wood heater during the cooler days or evenings. The building is well insulated with double glazing, so is quite cosy during winter months. The kitchen is well-equipped for self-catering with some pantry basics and a dining table that seats six. The barbecue and deck are perfect for outdoor dining. The home has three bedrooms, two with queen beds and the third with two singles, so there’s plenty of space for family and friends to stay. Bed linen and towels are provided. There’s a light and bright bathroom, separate toilet, and a washing machine.
  • Clean and stylish place surrounded by lovely trees. An easy 2 minute walk to the beach. 15-20 minute walk to the cafe. A great deck overlooks the water, perfect for eating dinner on while watching the sun set.

    Alex2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place in the north of Bruny Island. Robs house is clean and spacious and well fitted out with everything you would need. Especially liked the kids stuff - bowls and cups. games, books, beach toys, textas and paper - I wish more houses went to this effort. There is a path directly down to the lovely Nebraska beach - literally only 2 minutes walk. Enjoy the sunsets from the deck!

    Jonathan2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • What an epic experience, beautiful home, everything you need provided! My family so loved this beautiful, clean & well equipped space!! Couldn’t recommend it more!!

    Sara2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great getaway house, walking distance to the beautiful beach, a lot of really thoughtful touches, everthing is well designed and its definitely a home away from home. Look forward to going back there again.

    Jason2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • The house and location are just great - the quiet part of the quiet part of Bruny Island. The facilities inside - kitchen, living, bathroom and extra toilet all great. We loved the little things like coloring stuff for the kids, beach toys, pegs for the line - felt like a functional home rather than an austere accommodation - just lovely. The trees around the property bring birds close to the deck which is great - we saw parrots and cockatoos and lots of blue wrens. It’s a great beach house for a family or a couple.

    Donald2020-01-08T00:00:00Z

Nestled amongst the trees on a small farm, this cottage is in excellent condition having been fully renovated a few years ago. This waterfront property backs onto the scenic D'Entrecasteaux Channel. Enjoy the new deck and look out to beautiful scenery and wildlife. This accommodation offers the perfect getaway. It has bright, airy and very private...you have the cottage to yourself and no one to bother you. (Except a few Wallabies, Kookaburras and the occasional Tasmanian Devil.)
This building was constructed in the 1960's and now repurposed for an elegant stay for up to four people. The main living area includes a beautiful full kitchen and comfortable lounge and dining.
This wonderful property offers a very relaxed lifestyle within easy commuting distance of Hobart, peaceful rural and bush surroundings within 1.4 km's of the magnificent waters of the D Entrecasteuax Channel, renowned for its sheltered fishing and diving. There is a nearby boat ramp and beach for all to enjoy, and Middleton town has a store for every day convenience. You will be able to take advantage of spectacular sea and rural view encompasses a remarkable range of bird life, including eagles and hawks. An amazing view of the night sky for stargazers. You may even get to enjoy the southern aurora should conditions be right. Historically, the land was farmed for pears. The cottage is connected to tank water and has a fancy filter system which means the water quality perfect for drinking.
  • Katrina and Theo were lovely hosts. The cottage was exactly as pictured. We were very grateful for the toasty fire! Would be happy to stay again.

  • Beautiful bush block! Great place to get away and feel like you’re on holiday. Nice view of the water and the house is well equipped and really comfy. Great shower and kitchen!

  • Griff's house is large and well-equipped to cook and wash clothes. We also prepared a lot of chopped firewood for us in the fireplace and at the door, and taught us how to burn the fireplace for warmth. In particular, you not only have an entire house, but also a virgin forest and a beach with a radius of 5 kilometers. The beach is covered with oysters, which is really a good place for self-cultivation. Highly recommended!

  • Grev's house is a little paradisiac retreat. We spent 2 nights there and couldn't have found a better place! The house is well furnished with everything your need for a comfortable stay. The terrace is looking over a sheltered bay and the view is amazing especially at sunset and sunrise. Grev is really welcoming and will give you all good tips to visit the island and find wild oysters at low tides. I'll recommend this place to friends and family and we will definitely be back!

The variety of cereals and treats provided allowed us to enjoy our breakfasts on the balcony and take in the superb views. John and Lyn were most accommodating to our needs and allowed us to park our motorcycle in their private garage. The Kitchen fairy topped up supplies & the bathroom fairy left fresh towels for our second day. Top class facility & welcoming hosts. Highly recommended.

The apartment sits above the cafe with delicious food and drinks so it's hard to find a reason to leave! We also had a picnic in the field near the sheep which was a big highlight.

  • This is where you must stay if you are coming to Hobart and/or Bruny island. The house is on the top of the hill overlooking the ocean and their flock of sheep! The view from the window is exactly same as in the picture on this posting. Our host runs a cafe and whiskey/gin/cheese tasting downstairs- you should also try them out! The house is very well maintained, has lot of spaces and sunlights. The moment I checked in, I just wanted to stay home whole day! And Diane and her family are great host and it was very pleasant to talk with them.

    Soh2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great location to explore south-east Tassie. Lots of great food and wine in the area, delicious cafe, cheesery and distillery downstairs and wonderful ocean views from a spacious, well equipped, family-friendly space upstairs.

Close to Peppermint Bay restaurant or pop downstairs during day for meal or cheese or spirit tasting. Friendly hosts. Would be very happy to go back.

  • The space is beautifully renovated and contains a lot of thoughtful touches. The view from the balcony is spectacular. This was a great base for us to explore Bruny Island and we enjoyed driving South and around to the Huon area. Make sure you try the cheese and spirits downstairs and have a good chat. Everyone in the family were super friendly and it is really interesting to learn about what is involved in producing all the different products.

  • Very tranquil, naturey, quiet and clean space. Super nice view and lots of interesting surroundings. We loved it! Please do look out at night time. I think there's a resident possum. It's cute, large and fluffy. But open the door with caution, because it is very friendly and wants to get inside and be your pet 😝

  • We stayed here with our 2.5 year old for 2 nights, we had a great time here and the property was excellent. The main bedroom is located as a loft above the Bathroom/Toilet and second bedroom. It looks over the living and dining space downstairs and has amazing views though the front windows. The beds were comfy and the second bedroom had good space even with the 2 beds in it. The bathroom was very clean and good quality toiletries were provided, the composting toilet was no issue. The kitchen had a small oven, microwave, induction cook-top and basic cooking equipment. The breakfast that was provided was delicious and the addition of coffee machine and the oranges was great. The small laundry had a good quality washing machine and dryer. Parking was easy and the place was very quiet, it was extremely relaxing staying here and the hosts had thought of many small details.

Ben was so easy to communicate with, we had to change the date relatively last minute and he accommodated this without any hassles. I would 100% stay there again and recommend it to anyone! Thank you Ben!

  • This property is exactly as advertised - there are stunning views from the massive windows looking down the mountain and over the bay. On our second night there were no clouds and we had a huge view of the starry sky. We were especially impressed by the platter of bacon and eggs supplied for breakfast, and the fresh bread in the bread machine. There were even oranges to squeeze for orange juice.

Barnes Bay is the perfect location - close to the ferry, the penguins and the attractions in South Bruny, but with the peace and quiet of a waterfront accommodation.
