We are thrilled to host guests at the newly renovated Water's Edge Cottage -- a serene oasis offering what may be the best views on the Potomac. The rural charm of St. Mary’s County is among Maryland’s best kept secrets -- 90 minutes but a world away from Washington DC (with no Bay Bridge traffic!). We are near historic Leonardtown, boasting one of Maryland’s few remaining town squares (we affectionately call it “Mayberry”).
The space
The cottage’s interior has been redesigned to maximize its space and take full advantage of its stunning views. It has two bedrooms and two baths and vaulted ceilings throughout. The primary bedroom contains a king bed with a flatscreen TV and large closet for storage; the second smaller bedroom has a queen size bed, closet, and an office nook.
The open concept living area faces the water and features a seating area with a large flatscreen TV and gas indoor/outdoor fireplace, a dining area, and a fully stocked kitchen with custom cabinetry and European appliances. A door from the living area leads to a spacious outdoor deck with a sectional sofa and two rocking chairs where you can enjoy nature and the indoor/outdoor fireplace. Stairs from the deck lead to the backyard, which has a wood burning fire pit and Adirondack chairs for a more rustic waterside experience.
Guest access
You'll have access to the whole property except for one small supply closet in the primary bedroom.

We love Water's Edge Cottage and hope you will too -- but please consider the following before you book:
The house sleeps four, but the second bedroom is cozy. The focus will surely be on the water views, so if you are a party of three or four willing to share a relatively small (but airy and well designed) footprint, we think you’ll love it!
The house is in a quiet rural setting with friendly neighbors on either side of the house, a farm in the front, and the Potomac in the back. We've screened the outdoor deck for privacy.
The cottage is squarely within a critical environmental area given its location right on water that leads to the Chesapeake Bay. It has a (new) well and septic system. You will need to be careful about what gets put into the septic system (no grease, coffee grounds, etc.) and be mindful of water usage.
Riprap (large rocks) separates the backyard from the water, making water access difficult.

The cottage, located in St. Mary's County, MD, is surrounded by farms and water; our street contains roughly 15 to 20 small homes, many of which (ours included!) were built as fishing cabins in the 1930s and 1940s.
