My work: Marsha & Eleazar were longtime business partners in Texas owning a successful real estate practice. Prior to Real Estate Marsha was a Flight Attendant with American Airlines. Eleazar was an Electrician working in management for a Tower Construction Comp

Vista Canyon Inn is the culmination of the plans and dreams of two couples from Texas, Eleazar & Mayra Hernandez and Dave & Marsha Waddelow.
Tired of the long hours and stress involved in managing their successful real estate practice. Longtime friends and business partners, Marsha & Eleazar decided they were definitely ready for a change and new challenge. With full support from Mayra, Dave and their families, Vista Canyon Inn was born and has quickly become one of the top Boutique Inns in Costa Rica’s Central Valley.
Experts in their field, Eleazar and Marsha thought they had seen it all when it came to difficult transactions. But, after the fact they both are quick to explain to anyone who ask? They had no idea how much time, stress and all the frustration they went through while negotiating the purchase of the pre-foreclosure property. The practice of Real Estate in Costa Rica was quiet an adventure in itself they now laughingly agree. Thanks to a very honest and professional attorney. His knowledge and experience in addition to kind words and reassurance got them through the long ordeal.
Seven months, four trips, numerous phone calls, emails, express mail packages and many sleepless nights later their dream finally became a reality. " Our closing was definitely the nightmare of all closings." he explains while Marsha smiles shaking her head. It took over five hours.
The conference room was packed and it looked more like a corporate board meeting than a real estate closing.
Two weeks after closing, Dave & Mayra returned to the states. Dave continues to handle their investment properties and Mayra to tie up loose ends, lease the house and prepare the kids then 4 and 6 for their December move, new adventure and life in Costa Rica.
Their 30 day renovation turned into 90 days. The two joke about the times they asked each other. "What have we done?. Have we lost our minds? Will this renovation ever end? The renovation did end. However, they both admit a property this size is always a work in progress.
They welcomed their first guest on October 1st and officially opened for business November 1st 2011 and have never looked back.
The two base their success on their special relationship, support from their amazing spouses and most of all from God's continued blessings on them and the business. Often questioned about their relationship they say its goes back along time. Before Eleazar was married or even thought of having kids. " Other than Dave, he is the only one that knows how to read me." says Marsha. " And, vice versa" chimes in Eleazar. He is the son we never had. Vista Canyon Inn is our baby and we love what we are doing. We have the most supportive and understanding and loving spouses in the world. Our marriages had to be strong to withstand this major life changing experience. Plus, we are more than close friends we are family.
Both can handle the operation alone. However, it just isn't the same when one of them is gone. We compliment each other and our philosophies with the hotel are the same as they were in their Real Estate practice. Treat your clients/guests the way you would want to be treated. Provide a concierge type service and exceed their expectations. This creates happy clients/guests which equals referrals and return business.
TripAdvisor and other travel sites confirm they know their business. The reviews are 5 star and guests love the VCI experience. Many have returned and the referrals are priceless. When you love people and love what you do it just comes naturally.
Eleazar, is the President and spends much of his time dealing with the financial and business end of the company. He loves building things around the property. His background as an electrician has been priceless. He has basically rewired the whole property and added some great lighting effects.
In his free time loves spending time with the family, trips to the beach and exploring Costa Rica.
He is a fabulous cook and has become quite the baker. If your lucky, you may get to enjoy his cinnamon roles or his famous barbque ribs during your visit. He is active in the neighborhood association for which he helped establish. He enjoys meeting new people and is a fabulous host. He also plays a mean game of checkers. He and Dave enjoy playing golf as often as the time allows.
Marsha, who is quick to announce she is no longer the boss. Titles herself as the Queen of Fluff. She also handles all the marketing and tour booking for Vista Canyon Inn. She is also active in the Women's Club of Costa Rica. She is a Past President of the Costa Rica Newcomer's Club and still serves on the Board of Directors. She has a great social life and knows everyone. explains Eleazar. She spends most Thursdays with her friends "The Crazy Ladies" playing Mah Jong. A name the group was given by Eleazar's son Xzavian because they have too much fun. Marsha has learned to play bridge, is a member of a wine tasting and gourmet cooking group. When asked what's next? she says, Salsa dance lessons are on her list for 2017.
Dave & Marsha have a daughter in the states and 4 beautiful grandchildren. Leaving them was the hardest part about the move. Being only a 4 hour flight makes it easy for visits. We try to make the birthdays and major events.
Not only are Marsha & Eleazar great hosts, they love sharing their story.
They love visiting with guests who are considering moving to Costa Rica.
It has definitely been an adventure for them. They hope by sharing it will make things easier for others wanting to do the same.
However, they are the first to tell you. There is going to be good and bad things about anywhere you live. But, the good things about living in this wonderful country definitely outweigh the bad. The Pura Vida lifestyle agrees with them and is contagious to all their guests.
They are extremely knowledgeable about Costa Rica and are experts at helping you plan the tours and activities for your vacation.
