Come stay on a 19 acre, private wooded property in the heart of the Sourlands-a rolling ridge of ancient forests, boulder fields, and crystal-clear streams in Hopewell, NJ. Enjoy the trickle of brooks, hiking, birdsong, constellations from the fire pit or venture out to Needlecreek Brewery, Hopewell Valley Vinyards, Unionville Winery, Princeton, New Hope or Lambertville. Plus luxuriate in cotton sheets, fluffy towels, upscale bedding/bath products & a fully stocked kitchen.

The space
The 1890 at Huntland Farm is a 1,500-square-foot guesthouse situated on 19 mostly wooded, bucolic acres on Sourland Mountain. Perfect for one person or up to six.

Enjoy the serenity of a bygone era as you walk onto the charming rocking chair front porch. Upon entering the home (keyless entry) you’ll find a comfortable dining room with seating for six. It’s the perfect place to share a meal with family or friends and play games late into the night. A quaint bar cabinet provides a space to set up coffee in the morning or cocktails in the evening. In the adjacent family room, you’ll find a comfortable sectional and wood-burning stove. Firewood is available outside during your stay. With walls flanked with original rough-sewn wood and nails, this room exudes character. The well-appointed farmhouse kitchen is in the rear of the home and overlooks the forest. Fully stocked with all the necessary accouterments to make a gourmet meal with your local, organic farmer's market-procured produce, cooking is most enjoyable in this space. The first floor also has a powder room and a laundry room with a rear entrance to the home.

Upstairs you’ll find three bedrooms each having a television with WIFI streaming. There’s also a full bathroom with a shower. Bedroom one is the largest and has a king-size bed. Here you can retreat through sliding glass doors to the quaint balcony overlooking trickling brooks and the forest. The sun rises behind the home making morning coffee in this spot extra special. Bedroom two has a lower ceiling height typical in historic homes. This comfortable room has a queen-sized bed and a desk for remote work. Cozy and warm describe the third bedroom. It has two twin beds and lower ceiling heights as it was part of the original home as well. This room is the smallest and has no dresser or closet.

In the backyard, you can gaze upon the constellations while seated around the locally sourced Sourland Mountain stone firepit in any season. Firewood is provided. Please note, there is a Ring doorbell camera next to the front door that records video and sound for security purposes.

Guest access
The 1890 at Huntland Farm is the guesthouse on the property. We’re delighted for guests to experience the joys of Sourland Mountain and the surrounding area. You'll have access to the guesthouse and immediate yard, except for the basement and the right side of the queen bedroom owner’s closet. This was a working horse farm and there is a stable and barn on the property, as well as the main home which are all off-limits to guests. You can access D&R Greenway’s Hopewell Sourlands Trail through the property to the right of the guest house. These trails are on private land, so please stay on the trail and be respectful to our neighbors. Please be advised the land is extremely rocky (Sourland Mountain) and can be very difficult to navigate for those unsteady on their feet. We’ve also experienced a ton of deadfall due to the Emerald Ash Borer killing the Ash trees and the recent wind storms. All outdoor activities on the property are at your own risk.

Other things to note
This is a historic, rural property on a single-lane country road, which is what we love about it. It was built in the late 1800s and may not have modern code allowances for disability compliance or modern ceiling clearances (the queen and twin bedrooms). There are also different floor elevations on the second story. There is a step up to the bathroom and a step down to the king bedroom.

As hosts, we live in the main house on the property, along with a friendly dog and chickens. We also enjoy the land, and the barns and utilize utility sport/utility vehicles for recreation and maintenance of the property. We do our best to give guests privacy to enjoy their space. The lawn is cut once a week, usually Wednesday morning around 8 am. Please be sure the lawn is picked up at that time.

Care must be taken regarding what gets flushed into the septic system. Only the provided toilet paper is to be flushed down the toilets. Guests will be responsible for any damage to the septic system during their stay.

At times there are flowing brooks/streams right behind the guest house and a pond on the property. Please be advised that minors should have parental supervision at all times. Depending upon the season and weather the brooks can be dry, trickling, or like rapids during heaving rainstorms and snow melt.
