A luxurious restored Dutch Javanese Joglo set amidst the rice fields of Ubud, with Pool, Wi-fi and organic garden. The Master Suite has a King sized bed and single daybed converted for sleeping. Perfect for couples or family with up to 2 children.

The Space

The Rice Joglo is 20 minutes walk along the famous Rice Field walk into Sok Wayah Rice Field 200 m past Sari Organik. There is no car access in the rice field, ensuring tranquility and fresh, unspoiled air.

The Joglo is divided into two Suites, each with King sized bed and daybed.

This listing is for the Master Suite - top 2 floors. Check availability for the downstairs Lotus Suite as well. Guests can rent either Suite, or the whole property.

The Joglo was built in Java by a Dutch architect and is the only one of its kind. The restoration was true to the original, retaining the features of high cathedral/loft style ceilings, attic style doors and detailed fretwork.

Bathrooms were added to include open air showers and terazzo baths, and a separate outdoor kitchen and dining area which has 360 degree views of the rice fields, overlooking the river.

Guests also have access to the pool and wi-fi.

Guest Access

Our housekeeper will collect you with the scooter from the main road (Jalan Raya) and transport your luggage to the joglo. There's plenty to do nearby - the beautiful rice walk, Sari Organik's organic vegetable garden, Cantika spa, Pomegranate restaurant. Check with us for activities in and around Ubud.

The Neighborhood

Our little street is host to some beautiful restaurants, the most famous being Sari Organik a few minutes walk away. Enjoy any of the many day spas in our street or Ubud Centre. The centre of ubud is also host to a myriad of temples, museums, art and craft markets, restaurants and cafes.

Getting around

You can walk into the rice field, or hire a bicycle or scooter. Getting around Ubud is easy by foot. We recommend bringing a torch for the way back into the rice field at night.

Other Things to Note

While the Joglo is easy to get to by walking or scooter, at night the walk into the rice field can get dark in places. You'll need a torch. It's the price we pay for enjoying the open space and tranquility away from the hustle and bustle of the main centre.

  • We stayed with friends for 4 nights and loved the experience - highly recommended. The booking process, transport arrangements, accommodation and staff were faultless. Ketut and Made made us feel totally welcome, including finding organic fruit and vegetables from the garden for us to cook. Loved the Joglo, rice fields, ducks, and interaction with the locals on the daily walk to Ubud. Thank you Kristine - we hope to be back one day.

  • What a spectacular building and setting! We loved being out of the business of town and in such a special setting. It's a bit of a walk from the main drag but through stunning ricefields and past a comfortable neighborhood of organic restaurants, artists, and a yoga house. Quite a sight to see the scooters go by on the path.

Ketut and Mate were amazing and took fantastic care of us. They were enthusiastic about making sure we were comfortable, and also in sharing their culture. They checked in on us frequently and always were quick to help us, with enthusiasm and big smiles!! The gardens and landscaping are immaculate and it's clear that Mate takes great pride in his work. The pool was wonderful -- clean and refreshing. Can't say enough wonderful things about this amazing property!!

  • Kristine - who was not on site - was amazing anyway:)... She helped out in such a great way. Swiftly answering all questions by mail. Acting fast when asked... Coming up with great suggestions and solutions... An amazing host indeed. On the ground there was Sonu. A gentle soul smiling all the time... and doing everything he could to make the stay amazing for me and my daughter! Ofcourse there was also the gardener Ketut. Always in for a talk... always sharing his work in the garden with us in such a gentle way!

The Rice Field Joglo is truly a hidden gem. I have not encountered in Ubud such an amazing place to stay in. And there's a lot of competition I can tell you! Anyhow... the place is secluded in the ricefields, though only 10 minutes by motorbike and you're in the heart of Ubud. It is peaceful, amazing views of the ricefields, close to Sari Organic (one of the many great restaurants Ubud has to offer)... The swimmingpool was a great additon for my daughter... She loved it! The way everything is decorated, the luscious garden, ah.... well... you catch my drift! We had a great time! Best is to rent a motorbike so you can come and leave as you please. Ubud has so much to offer. It is my absolute favorite place on earth... and now my daughter feels the same... All in all! If you like peace, beauty, love and good, healthy food... Rice Field Joglo is the place to be! I hope that I can return one day, because this is such a place that could be booked all the time. Go for it, when it is available...

I've lived in Sydney for a long time, though I was born in Norway. I seem to have both the sea and mountain cabins in my blood, because I'm now living between the two! I met my partner Sonu in my travels a few years ago, and we now divide our time between our home at Bronte Beach, and the Javanese teak Joglo cabin we help manage in the mountains of Bali. Sonu is Indian Hindu, who spent 10 years running an Indian restaurant in Israel, so between us we are a bit of a multicultural stew. We also have multi cultural children who love water - beaches, pools, and the fish that swim in the ponds in Bali.
