About this listing
The house is located in the Unesco Heritage neighborhood of Mangalem. It's the only house with a proper balcony in the neighborhood from which you have amazing views of Mt. Tomorr, the hills around, the river and a bit of Gorica. The house has 3 rooms, from which one is a bedroom, and two sitting areas. The bedroom is small and has 2 single beds. There is a sofa that turns into a double bed in the living room. The house was recently renovated with new ceilings, fresh paint, and new furniture. Please respect the furniture as they are brand new (sitting rooms furniture), the wooden floors, especially in the balcony as it's also brand new, and the neighborhood.
The kitchen has up to date appliances (fridge and stove). There is one bathroom attached to the balcony. The house has a lot of character and is perfect for couples or families who wish to spend a few days in Berat. The wireless internet has recently been updated and works inside and outside in the balcony.
I don't live in Albania, but my brother takes great care of the house as he lives nearby. Upon confirmation of reservation you will receive more information about Berat and what we have to offer during your stay.
The house is located up Mangalem hill. Due to it being part of Unesco Heritage, cars are not allowed inside the neighborhood. The walk up the house is a very good exercise :)
Other Things to Note
The bathroom is quite small. Due to limited space the shower has no curtain and gets the floor really wet. Please be careful. The tiles might get slippery. There is a flight of stairs to walk up when entering the main gate.
Please don't smoke inside the house. You can smoke outside in the balcony.
Most of the furniture is brand new, so please don't ruin it.
Please take your shoes off at the bottom of the stairs. The house has hardwood floors and rugs.
Please turn OFF the air conditioning and heaters when you leave the house and turn them back on when you come back. Appliances like that break down easily in Albania when left on for an extended period of time.
Last but not least, please understand that if the house is booked back to back, please adhere to the check in/check out policy.
We had a great time at Kristi's. Her brother collected us and we were able to contact him and he collected us. Her brother and father made us welcome. The house is really lovely, and as a shelter fom the heat. The balcony must be one of the best places to sit in Berat.
Spacious, comfortable, well-equipped historic house with fabulous balcony and views. a little bit special! Kristi was a friendly and responsive host. Kristi's brother Dorian did everything he could to help us. We stayed quite a few days so we were able to explore the locality around Berat as well as the town itself. If you have time we recommend this. In addition to the information In the other reviews we recommend the Saturday market and a walk along the ridge from local village of Drobonik to the Gorica castle remains.
We had a nice one night stay at Kristi's apartment. Communication with was prompt, thoughtful and professional. Her brother met us and was available if we needed help; he was lovely and very helpful. It was nice to stay in the old style unit and the modern touches made the stay very comfortable.
I've stayed in many Airbnbs in my time and this one was my absolute favourite. What a find! You absolutely have to stay here. Worth it for the balcony alone - the photos do not do it justice. My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time enjoying the view (and the local wine) for hours. The apartment is huge, beautifully decked out, and in a gorgeous Ottoman building in the old town. It's lovely to find your way to your apartment by winding through tiny cobbled streets (though not great for wheely suitcases!).
Communication with Kristi was great - she was able to be really flexible with our ever-changing plans, and her brother Dorian was a wonderful local host. We decided to check out earlier than planned, and he kindly came round at very short notice to make sure we had everything we needed.
Berat itself is a stunning town, and we had a great time wandering about, eating ice cream, exploring the castle and eating wonderful food in local restaurants. We happened to be there during the prime minister's visit, so it was quite something to see thousands of people watching his rallying speech from the comfort of our balcony! Sadly we were visiting at a time when the river was quite low - we'd have liked to have a go at rafting or kayaking, but that's probably an activity for February-March.
Overall, highly recommended in every way.
Very special, atmospheric place with fantastic view over a beautiful city. Clean. Kristi and family were very helpful and welcoming. Traveled with two small kids. Highly recommended.
I can't emphasize how wonderful this place is. These houses are one of the primary things people come to Berat to see and you're staying in one. Kristi has done a great job of fixing the place up and it's very comfortable. The downsides (such as the need to walk up very narrow, cobbled streets to get there and a cramped bathroom) are simply a function of the kind of place it is. The views are spectacular. Kristi and her brother were very helpful and made us feel welcome. We had a great experience. Berat is a beautiful place and I can't imagine a better place to stay while there.
