Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • A really special place to escape the hustle. Very close to the park and close enough to the town. Highly recommended for those looking for an escape. Doran was also a great host.

  • I booked this house for a relaxing hiking getaway with my husband and can say this house was perfect! The location is in between Joshua Tree's main drag and the park, so it was a convenient pitstop going between hiking and heading out on the town for dinner and activities.

It's incredibly well-decorated and modernized while still maintaining a rustic feel. There's so many great touches like board games, the sound system, and a kitchen and bathroom stocked with tons of natural products. Plus, all of the candles around the house make it smell like a spa. The bedroom faces a massive rock pile that was beautiful to wake up to. Cell reception can be weak at the house, but there is a good wifi signal if you need to be connected. I didn't mind forgetting about my phone for a couple days.

Doran was a very attentive host, and sent us a ton of great info about the area and events happening while we were in town. We ended up hiking, going to the Second Saturday Art Crawl and came home to the fire pit and smores. The neighbors down the street were hosting a performance after the art crawl, so we had the added bonus of hearing some local music in the distance while sitting outside at the fire! I would definitely love to come back! Thank you Doran!

    Response from Doran:

In retrospect I would have left the guest cancel her reservation on-line via the site.
This cancellation was made on the phone with Amber at airbnb, I did not know that she clicked it as a host cancellation.
The guest and I mutually agreed on the cancellation upon her request via email.
I thought in order for the guest to get fully refunded, and over-ride my cancellation policy, the phone call to airbnb would cancel this and refund the guest in full.
Instead, I was given a link to refund the guest, and apparently it was listed as a host cancellation as per that link.

  • We had a great time at Dorian's place. The house is perfectly located to visit Joshua Tree Nationalpark.
Also, the house is well equipped for cooking and has a lot of outdoor seating, which is nice!
I would definitely recommend the place and Dorian as a host!

  • Doran's place was just what we were looking for. I was traveling with my parents, so they took the bedroom while I slept in the detached studio. Studio is a bit unfinished, but I was totally comfortable and the privacy was nice to have. The house is so close to the park and to town, so we were able to come and go easily, making little trips during the day. I love the hammock and the outdoor areas. Some of the interior lighting was a bit dim for my aging parents, but overall a super stylish, comfortable, clean and serene place to stay! Thanks, Doran.

  • My family stayed at Doran's pad for a weekend and loved our visit to Joshua Tree. Doran has obviously put a lot of work into making his home comfortable and conducive to a pleasant stay for guests.

We rented the main house and the guest room, both beds were extremely comfortable. Doran has quality bedding and bath supplies and comfortable furniture inside and out. We definitely felt completely at home and like we had everything we needed for our weekend get-away.

We hesitated a bit to book the place because it was our first time using airbnb, and the price seemed a little high but in the end it definitely wasn't- you get to be much closer to the park than local hotels or motels, and have your own private space, a full kitchen with all the cookware you need for meals, outdoor fire pits, a wood stove, and much more that you wouldn't in a motel.

If you're afraid of the dark it might not be the place for you - but if you want to get away from everything, and enjoy some incredible stargazing at night, this is definitely the place to stay.

We were just about a mile from Joshua Tree National Park and drove into the park two days to take short hikes, look for wildlife, and take in the views. We saw a coyote one afternoon, plenty of birds and some other small animals. We went to one of the watering holes one morning just after sunrise to look for bighorn sheep but didn't get to see them. On Doran's property, we did see a lot of lizards and I think some desert iguanas- but don't worry, they weren't near the house and there didn't seem to be any way they could get inside.

  • I had a great 3 night stay at Doran’s place. The vibe inside and and out is welcoming with a retro-modern flair. His close proximity to the park was a major plus (I’ve stayed at more remote JT properties, which I like, but this was definitely convenient). My favorite memory was sitting on the couch, listening to Beck’s latest album through his iPhone friendly old-school speakers, while a fire burned to my left and the sun set through the window to my right. Drinking a beer of course. Good times.

  • My friend and I had never been to Joshua tree. We found the perfect spot to spend time there. Doran's place has everything you need and he is very communicative. We unfortunately arrived very late and he was kind enough to make sure we got there safely. Can't wait to go back!

  • Dorayme has a cute place in Joshua Tree. If you're looking for a place to stay to go hiking in the desert this is it! Literally at the edge of the park, your only a minute away from great hikes.

    February 2014
  • Dorian's place was amazing, we just wanted to hang out there rather than Joshua Tree park! We had everything we needed there, it's got some really cool features and you can tell they have put a lot of love into it. and it's so close to the west park entrance. Great!
