Welcome to The Understory. Nestled deep in the rhododendron covered woods, this romantic hand-crafted tiny home offers you a peaceful and memorable stay just 15 minutes from both Asheville and Black Mountain. The comfortable living space includes a rain shower, king sized bed in a lofted sleeping area, cozy wood stove and a full kitchen. Surrounding the cabin is a large deck with a table and chairs, a luxurious soaking bathtub, and a patio equipped with a fire pit and propane grill.

The space
SAUNA:
Follow the path near the fire pit to take you to the shared sauna. We will share a link to the Google calendar once you book.
We ask that you leave the space clean and the light off as well as the heat before you leave. If you forget to turn the heat off it’s on a timer Just in case.

SLEEPING:
Inside the cabin, climb up the ladder and you'll find a comfortable king sized bed. The Understory easily sleeps another person on the couch on the bottom level. We provide spare pillows and linens for this purpose.

COOKING:
The kitchen has a double burner stove, a microwave, mini-fridge with a small freezer, and all the other essentials.

CELL SERVICE/ INTERNET:
There is little to no cell reception but we have high speed internet. Once you connect to the internet be sure your WI-FI Calling is on and you will be able to use your phone as normal.

FIRE PIT/ GRILL:
The patio has a fire pit. Wood for the outdoor fire is available for $5/10 pieces or feel free to bring your own wood. Leave cash or vennnnmo us @thehiveasheville. For cooking, we have a propane grill and provide the gas for the grill.

WOOD STOVE: Inside the cabin we have a wood burning stove. The stove is shut down for the warmer months and open October-March. There is also heat and air conditioning all year long. If you use the stove, please be sure to read the directions thoroughly and be very careful.

Guest access
The Understory is very private with your own parking area and you will be the only guests accessing the cabin and outdoor space including the deck, patio, fire pit, and hammock. However, the sauna is a shared space. Please sign up for timeslots once you book we will share a link with you.

Other things to note
BEARS:
We do have bears in the area so be sure to keep all food and trash inside at night and keep an eye out. There is a bear horn under the sink in the kitchen.

Neighborhood highlights

While you are only about 15 minutes from Asheville (west of us) or Black Mountain (east of us), we are out in the woods in Swannanoa. Little Bee Lane is a gravel road into the woods and has only 3 residential houses plus our air bnb cabins. The 4 of us own about 20 acres of land and have built our homes and, of course, The Understory on this gorgeous land of ours. Alyson and Ryan also have 2 rustic cabins available on Air Bnb called The Roost and The Starling.

We are Alyson, Ryan, Christina, and Alex! We are best friends and next door neighbors. Alyson and Ryan have two little girls and live in the wood siding house you see on your way up Little Bee Lane. Christina and Alex live in the next house up the road with their sweet pup Ringo. We fell in love with this land and think you will too!
