About This Listing
Located in England's largest National Park, above Lake Windermere with it’s sweeping views of the Lake Districts grand peaks and valleys, you will find Priory Manor. A spacious historical 4 story, 4 bedroom apartment, located in the historic manor known as "The Priory".
Dripping in Gothic Architecture, The Priory is a sight to behold. Built in 1869, as a private residence for William Carver, a local businessman, The Priory became his masterpiece. The location he chose for his Manor was on a hill with breathtaking views of Lake Windermere. To fully enjoy this magical location, William added a Tower Room, giving him a 360* view of the grand peaks and valleys of the area.
The Priory has since been divided into two private luxurious residences, 1 Priory Manor is our home. The main entrance, with its gorgeous front door, beloved tower room and grand staircase with the priceless stained glass windows, are all private and only available to our guests.
From the minute you drive up to The Priory and absorb the history and beauty of the architecture, you know you have made the right decision in choosing Priory Manor as your getaway. Entering the residence through the Gothic Doors, you will notice to your right, the original staircase and surrounding arches, follow the staircase up and you will see, 6 gorgeous original stained windows featuring the ladies of Priory Manor; Peace, Love, Charity, Industry, Hope and Faith. The staircase will take you up to a lovely sitting area and a long hallway to 2 of the bedrooms, to the right the Master Bedroom and to your left the Guest Bedroom. Both of these bedrooms are en-suite, have king size beds and incredible views of Lake Windermere.
Follow the stairs up to the 3rd level and you will find 2 charming, smaller bedrooms, each with a single bed. Follow the next staircase up to the tower room with it's 360* views of The Lake District, it's a great place to escape and have a cup a tea and/or a glass of wine or two.

Priory Manor was a wonderful base to explore Cumbria from, especially without a car. It was easy to get to the property from Windermere station, picking up the keys on the way. And it's on major bus routes that take you into Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside & Grasmere, so easy to shop and get to great places to start walking the rugged landscape from. There are two supermarkets around 10-15 minutes walk away, which was perfect as I mostly self-catered.
Mick & Kelly were great hosts and easy to get in touch with. They made sure I had all the information I needed and a contact point for immediate needs during my stay.
The Manor is a truly stunning property with lots of character and tastefully decorated along with all the modern equipment you need to be comfortable. On the one very wet day I had, it was a pleasure to stay indoors and relax, whilst on the outdoorsy days it was delightful to come back to a luxurious place and make dinner. I can't recommend staying here enough... go on treat yourself!
We travelled with friends to the Lake District (group of six adults) and had an amazing time here. There is a beautiful walk down to Lake Windermere that starts very close by, and the turret room is absolutely wonderful in the evening to watch the sunset from. The whole house was incredibly decorated and we loved the gargoyles that gave it a real touch of charm. We couldn't believe we were able to stay somewhere so nice over a Bank Holiday weekend - most rentals in the area expect a full week's commitment so this was perfect for us, as we only wanted to stay for three nights.
Fantastic place an fantastic house! We found everything we need and we spend 3 unforgottabke days. All was perfect the only notice for the future clients is to ask to worm the house one day before the arrival.: we had to wait one day to obtain a good temperature inside. Good the assistence by the owner.
