Facilities and Accommodation

The THH is not a hotel, rooms are simple but functional. Each bedroom comes with clean bedding, mosquito net, table for storage and towels. In total we have 3 private double bedrooms in the main tree house complex, which can sleep two people per room. We also have a large private family room that can sleep a maximum of 8 people, unlike the private double bedrooms where each bed is raised above the floor, beds in the large family room are placed on the bamboo floor. The family room is often recommended for families with young children (1-5 yrs old) as it is very spacious and easy to take care of your children, should they wake in the night. We have one other tree house that is located a short walk from the main tree house. Again this can sleep two people and is recommended for guests who want complete privacy during their stay. Bedding is laid out on the floor and there (email hidden) as well as small table to store your belongings. This tree house has its own bathroom as well as sitting area and fire pit. Toilets in the main tree house structure are shared and have 1 hot shower and two cold. Although not common the water pressure at the THH can sometimes drop, due to problems with the piping system. During this period we ask guests to use our back up showering facilities, which are located a short walk from the tree house complex.

There are occasional power cuts, but they are usually rectified within a few hours. At the moment we do not have a back-up generator. There are torches at the Tree house, but please bring your own too should the power go out at night.

Tree House Terrace
The tree house terrace is where you will spend most of your time during your stay. It is a very spacious living area and is located on the lower level of the tree house, just below the sleeping area. There is a steep staircase leading down to the tree house, so those with young children will have to watch their children don’t try to navigate the stairs on their own. The terrace comes complete with two large dining tables, hammocks, fire pit and communal seating area.
The Tree House is very popular with families from toddlers to teenagers, we have hosted them all. Of course for toddlers who like to wander, you will need to keep a close eye on them as there are some gaps in the main wrap around terrace barricade. For trekking it is advised to bring a back-pack for young children. Treks take between 2-3hrs on average.

Trekking is one of the main activities at the THH, if you are not much of a trekker or have problems walking on uneven surfaces, then we either suggest only visiting the local school and village and then returning to the TH (walking time 30mins). If you really dislike walking then maybe the Tree House Tour is not for you. Treks are usually 2-3hrs in length and are medium to difficult in parts. Should you need them, we provide all guests with walking sticks. To a certain degree we can tailor the treks to suit your ability from ‘moderate’ to ‘tough’. The shortest trek usually takes at least 2hrs (not including time at waterfall). During the trek you will have to cross a few low level river crossings, you can either choose to take your shoes off and wade through the river or try to navigate the rocky stepping stones! If you have them, we highly recommend neoprene or amphibious shoes for the trekking.

Food and Beverage
All meals during your stay at the tree house are included in the price of the tour. All food is freshly prepared. We can cater to vegetarian and vegan guests.
There (email hidden) at the Tree House, which sells beer and soft drinks as well as snacks, e.g. crisps, peanuts and dried fruits. Fresh Thai Arabica coffee and tea are available for purchase throughout your stay at the THH. For breakfast, one cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate is included with the breakfast. Any extra drinks are to be purchased. Drinking water is provided for free throughout your stay at the THH.
The bar operates on an honesty system, in which you write down what you take and then pay on the day of your departure.

  • Six of us went away to celebrate my girlfriends birthday. We were looking for solitude, a city escape, and opportunity to hike and be outdoors.

Alex and Oppy's Treehouse exeeded our expectations ten-fold.

The treehouse itself is spectacular with amazing views, surrounded by a lovely community of people, and has access to some great hiking.

The fact that everything was included in the amount we paid helped us just sit back and relax the experience.

The team catered to us being vegetarian with great skill, and they really went the extra mile to make a birthday really special.

Perfect for big groups or just as a couple; you can plan as much or as little as you like; and what an amazing break from the big city!
    Thanks Alex and Oppy!

  • Alex had been an extremely wonderful house and the treehouse he has listed had been one of the most amazing place I've been in a long while. It is every bit as the picture has shown and the trek up to the waterfall was a good refresher to start running around among the trees again. The trek up with Alex, some people we adopted out of the blue and lungsuk who's our local guide had been great. It isn't a tough trek but so come equipped! You might not always be as lucky to get a shoe that fits you from the treehouse like me.

I must stress the highlight of the treehouse really is with the family that's taking care of it. Food was simple but crazily scrumptions. They cater well for vegetarian and ladies - do come with a full purse, there's some wonderful handmade beaded jewellery from Lungsuk's niece.

Thank you Alex and see you again in a couple of months to head up to Chiang Dao!

  • Tree House Tour is a part of my boyfriend's birthday trip in Chiang Mai. We experienced memorable days at this place. It is a good experience for city people like us. Alex and Oppy are so nice! Thanks Shuk's family too! They guided us with enthusiasm and let us know more about Chiang Mai!

Originally, I had many concerns about this, e.g. level of difficulties, accommodation, accessibility, activities, etc. However, Alex answered my questions one by one and made me feel more confidence on it.

For activities, we join trekking, waterfall, visiting villager, massage, hot spring and elephant riding. Extra fees were needed for add on activities but the cost were acceptable. Through this tour, we saw the custom of local village. The villagers work together with heart for the village. Their similes impressed me a lot.

Next, food is delicious more than I expected in the rural area. Bedroom was big enough with fan and mosquito net. The fan was powerful enough and we didn't feel hot during sleeping. Additionally, we had a private washroom with hot shower facilities which were in good condition. If you want to have a shower next morning, I suggest request hot water service earlier.

The natural environment is beautiful and I love the sky day and night. Honestly, I felt itchy while sleeping but my boyfriend didn't have this problem. Anyway, I do like sleeping with the sound from the nature.

Surely, “Mosquito repellents” was very important, not only in the tree house, but also anywhere in Chiang Mai. I would recommend buy one in Chiang Mai!

It is a good and special way to refresh ourselves. We built up a friendship with Alex and Oppy. I encourage city people join the tour like this and experience different life of living here.

  • We were on the fence about booking the treehouse because of time constraints, but were so glad we did! We had an absolutely wonderful day and night, and Alex went out of his way to make our plans fit. The treehouse itself is stunning, and after trekking to the waterfall, followed by a candlelit massage then dinner, we were all as relaxed as we have been in ages! Would definitely recommend and hope we can make it to stay again sometime!

  • Thank you Alex for beeing a great host - showing us around the area (you even took me into the caves which were beautiful) and showing us a wonderful temple on the mountain with no other tourists around ;-)
The treehouse is fabulous and the village is great. Where do you get the village chief to welcome you and the village women giving you a thai-massage during the sunset (with great live nature sounds)?
The food was perfect and the coffee in the morning very good! Thank you for everything.
If we would have expected such a great stay, we would have stayed 2 nights! We hope to come back. Best Annina & Thierry

  • My fiancee and I had a great time staying at the Tree House. The hiking was great - remote, adventurous, with lots of great views of the surrounding mountains. The food was good, and we had a great time getting to know the young family staying the same night as us.

  • If you are the kind of traveler that wants to explore remote places and live with village people, the tree house is the kind of experience you dream of. Without divulging too much, I will share that you basically move into the most incredible tree house you have every seen. It is seated high in the canyon with breathtaking views and the sounds of birds above and a rushing river below. A family of 3 generations lives in a tree house next door and caters to your every need. The food was incredible… the best I tasted in Thailand. And the trekking tours and massages were next level. I can’t speak highly enough of this experience. Thank you Alex for being an exceptional host! You were such a treat just to hang out with let alone your endless guidance and invaluable ability to translate! I hope to see you in the tree house again very soon!!! BIG hugs! Nicola

  • I cannot adequately express how incredible our experience was at the Tree House Hideaway, but I’ll do my best.

The Hideaway is located deep in a beautiful rural mountain village at the foothills of the Himalayas. The Hideaway is unreal and the views are breathtaking.

But this is beyond a lodging, it’s a truly unique opportunity to explore the mountain village and interact with the wonderful small community there. Alex was a phenomenal host, introducing us to the welcoming village, guiding us on an intense deep trek through the jungly mountain, teaching us about the rich culture and history of the land, and even helping us plan the remainder of our trip in Thailand. We tasted mouthwatering local snacks like sweet sticky rice in bamboo and banana chips, and savored unreal meals made from locally grown food including vegetables we picked on our hike through the mountain.

Long Sook, the owner, had a grand vision when he built this hideaway.
We were honored to have a chance to share his home and his village. Hope to see you all again soon!

  • The Tree House is quite the unique experience. It is located about an hour and a half north of Chiang Mai in the rural jungle of Northern Thailand. On our first night there we were greeted by travelers from around the world, had an herbal steam and fed a wonderful home cooked Thai dinner around an open fire; all very welcome after a few intense days in Bangkok. Good conversation with fellow travelers as well as Alex the host well into the night. Alex is very knowledgable about the surrounding landscape and Thai culture. We were ready for a little adventure and this place was perfect!

Myself and my partner (Oppy) run a tour company in Chiang Mai, North Thailand. We operate a unique set of tours that take you out into the surrounding mountains of Chiang Mai and allow you to interact with local culture and explore there surrounding nature. We have both travelled throughout Asia, Europe and North America, always seeking out adventure and authentic travel experiences our last memorable trip was to Yosemite National Park in California, where we were amazed at the stunning beauty of the park. The thundering waterfalls and the largest trees in the world make it a must see destination for any nature lover. It is these same experiences that we bring to our tours, big trees, waterfalls, trekking and many more cultural and nature based experiences. As well as Chiang Mai's surrounding mountains the city itself offers visitors a unique travel experiences that you won't find elsewhere in Thailand, the mix of traditional culture combined with modern services and an eclectic bunch of international expats, creates a city full of creative ventures, including a burgeoning arts scene, a plethora of live music venues and a food culture that caters to all tastes from high-end 'Gastro' restaurants to an abundance of street stalls and shacks serving super tasty Thai food. A trip to Chiang Mai won't dissapoint, who knows you might even end up extending your trip and settling down for the long term :)
