  • Anita was a lovely hostess! She was flexible on her check-in and out times, which was super helpful (though I do believe this is dependent on whether someone is there before/after you, so do double check!) …Her puppy, Rio, is friendly and delightful. He will love you and while he enjoys attention, he will leave you be if that's what you prefer. Accommodations were great, comfy bed, wifi, use of the dining room if you need more work space... and Anita even made me breakfast! A great stay that I would definitely recommend for anyone traveling in Berkeley.

  • It was a very pleasant stay. My friend came to visit me and we needed a place to stay for a short time. The host Anita was very friendly and considerate. Her house is adorable and clean. We could use the kitchen and laundry room freely and we sometimes used dining room for our office to check the emails and chat. We felt like our own home. She even made coffee and oatmeal for us every morning and buy whatever we need for breakfast.

The house is in very convenient location , walking distance to shops and restaurant. Sometimes we just walk few minutes to eat in these lovely restaurant. It is also very quite and safe. I definitely will go again if i need a short stay. . Loved the place.
    Highly recommended.

  • Anita was a very attentive host and saw to fixing any concern that arose immediately. The one issue we did come up with that wasn't fixable while we were there was no (central) heat in one of the rooms we stayed in. And it can get pretty darn cold there on a Berkeley night! I know Anita has since fixed this- so shouldn't be an issue the next time we stay! There is also some light that comes into one of the rooms from the front porch, but we were able to remedy that by using a styrofoam strip (found in the room) to block it out. Otherwise, she looked out for us with regards to knowing the bus system, gave us a ride once, and made sure the heater was on in the other room so when we got back, it was toasty! Anita is very concerned for her guests' comfort- and a neat lady too.

I have lived with Anita one week. Was a good stay with a very comfortable bed and a hearty breakfast. A large, very friendly dog and the noise from the Amtrak train guard your sleep. The area is great: 4th Street has everything from good Peet's coffee to the Apple store .... and is just around the corner. Sitting in the sun and watch people let you down well here. Anita even let me use their bicycles. Your house is an experience: very clean and full of many beautiful photos and memories. A highly recommended place to stay!

  • First of all; I need to start with a disclaimer : I love dogs and music. And to be more specific (more of a disclaimer now) I love Labrador Retrievers and Classic Rock and Folk Music. OK; that being said; this Home could not have been more perfect for me. Also, almost forgot : I love to cook. Anyway ; I had the most fabulous time enjoying everything this Inn has to offer my entire visit. The house is literally like a small version of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Wonder Woman and Rio (the amazing Black Wonder Dog) thrown in. I have stayed in countless Inns, Homes, Resorts all over the world for 33 years and this is my favorite. I know that sounds untrue but it is the honest truth. I loved cooking in the great kitchen, spending great time with Rio, and just the overall atmosphere of Anita's wonderful little 'retreat' in the heart of the coolest neighborhood in Berkeley. Ooops, forgot one thing - I love bicycling too and I used her bike to visit the North Face Outlet (just down the street) to stock up for my cold upcoming winter in Chicago.

  • The location could not be better. It is exactly on the corner of the gentrified Berkeley Marina Oceanview bistro/boutique district, less than half mile from the marina and beautiful, busy marina park, 3 blocks from the Berkeley Aquatic Park and new foot/bike path that crosses the freeway, as well an easy bike to the new Bay Bridge foot/bike path. The trains and night lighting take a quick adjustment, but if you want some real Cal history, Anita's is the place to be. Anita is socially conscious and politically active without being the least bit presumptuous. She knows Berkeley and Cal Berkeley history and every photo, every piece of art, every knickknack in her home has a great story. Her beautiful Lab-mix Rio is friendly, civilized, and soft as silk. The bathroom and kitchen are large and clean. Not once in 2 weeks was there a lineup or conflict of shared use. Twice there were guest spouses who joined the household and both felt perfectly welcome and comfortable. I highly recommend staying with Anita.

  • I stayed here for a week with my partner and it was a dream trip! We had both lived in Berkeley for a while some time ago, and we found the house to be an excellent and fitting example of what living in Berkeley is like. Anita is one of the best hosts I've ever known and made this experience rich and unique by accepting to share some of her passions and interests of hers with us. Her dog Rio is a huge yet adorable dog that has been very well educated: although his size might be impressive, he is just the cutest attention-seeker.
On top of that, the house is very well situated, no need to drive in order to find nice shops and restaurants!
The trip was definitely worth it, and the conversations with Anita, who is very knowledgeable about the area, turned it into the perfect Berkeley experience!
