For surfers beginners and also for swimming you'll find also there Sandy Beach. During low tide kids and families like to lay in the sandy natural pools of Playa Negra.

To have fun in the waves, sharing a beer for the sunset with the local community, observe the birds, iguanas, monos monkeys and nature, canopy, riding horses, bike trekking or fishing. Also a good base for visiting the Nicoya Peninsula and its many beaches and mountains.
2 to 3 people, 50$ a night for 2 people. Outdoor kitchen to share with BBQ! Breakfast on demand (before arrival).
Tour advices and good plans, where to rent a car, hire a surf teacher, a horse or doing a bike trekking, and more hidden places as the good places to eat and have a drink.
Inconveniences: Roads are bad in costa Rica and especially around Tamarindo. It can take you at least one hour to do Playa Negra-Tamarindo in case of rains, our district has only dirt roads, from Paraiso to Tamarindo. We strongly recommend to rent a car to be free of moving to not depend of some expensive taxis. After Paraiso and Tamarindo, public transport is non-existent. If you're looking for the crowd and for nightlife, this is not the place. Even if the place has all modern conveniences, it is surrounded with the wild, and more recommended for people looking for this kind of tourism.
I absolutely LOVED my stay at Yvan's cabina!! Yvan had business elsewhere so I spent more time with Luciano and Francoise, Yvan's parents, who were delightful. The outdoor kitchen was perfect and my favorite spot. The cabina was comfortable and clean and had everything I needed. Los Pargos is definitely off the beaten path and exactly what I was looking for, if it's action and nightlife, maybe this isn't the place for you. I felt safe at the property, loved the strange night sounds, enjoyed the birds and other wildlife that were around and Playa Negra which was a few minutes away. Playa Avellana was close by which I also visited and enjoyed it for the shade it offered as well as a great restaurant/bar. I would stay here again and hope the opportunity arises. Thanks Yvan, for having cool parents and a unique place to visit. OH, and how can I forget the "tropical cow" which marks the entrance to the drive....if you want to know more, you will just have to go for a visit.....
The house was absolutely gorgeous and the host family was darling. It is perfect for the family or couple that wants to 'get away from it all'. I was very dismayed by the distance (it says 12 miles from Tamarindo but does not mention that it is a horrific dirt road that takes 45 min-1hr to get there) and the cost ($90 round trip taxi, after hassling in Spanish) to and from the action of Tamarindo. Expect to stay in Playa Negra until you have to leave. Good luck finding 'a ride' from a local out of there. Plan early as it takes a full day to really get out of Playa Negra and to Liberia. Playa Negra is an absolute ghost town and if it is rainy season you better have an SUV to get to the beach. Don't expect to walk to the beach and if you do, I highly suggest you don't get stuck there after sundown, with the rain, dark, and mud. It is a beautiful property, just don't expect to see much life off the property. I wish I had read a review like this before I booked it for a week and literally was 'stuck'.
