Where you’ll be

Willemstad, Curaçao, Curaçao

Otrobanda is a special place on Curaçao. Narrow streets, many monumental buildings, a working-class neighborhood interspersed with very large houses, sometimes up to 200 years old.

It is not a party area for interns. That is, you don't walk from one party to the next. There is of course plenty of sun, sea and beach in Curaçao and parties too, by the way, but most parties take place on the other side of the city, more towards Saliña, Jan Thiel and Bapor Kibra.

Otrobanda, on the other hand, is relatively quiet, but certainly not boring, and although many people still think that Otrobanda is a 'bad neighbourhood'... it has become a very nice neighborhood in the last 15 years. I have been living there myself since 2005 and my wife Rianne since 1998. The experiences of the tenants who have lived there for the past two years are very positive, both about the apartments and about the neighborhood. It is important that you make contact with the neighborhood, and not just drive quickly through the streets without greeting anyone.

As for transport, within the city (both Otrobanda and Punda) you can easily get around on foot. You can also walk to Pietermaai. Almost all other places are also easily accessible by public transport, but a number of places (including the parties, but also some beaches, and the supermarket) are better done by car. So I do recommend that you consider renting a car, at least for a few weeks. If you haven't found a car yet, we have 3 contacts for you, on request.

My work: "something with computers and the Internet"
I'm Ace Suares. I program web applications and organize projects for children who do not have access to the benefits that Internet offers. Together with Rianne, I live in Otrobanda, the most beautiful part of Willemstad, in a monument of more than 100 years old. In addition, I run the Life Foundation in Otrobanda, which hosts a monument for vacation, internship but also for long-term occupancy. So if you want to stay or live in Otrobanda, and enjoy the actual, not tourist Curacao, you have come to the right place!
