Step into the quiet rhythm of our century-old farmhouse in Bow, Washington. This historic home blends original character with thoughtful comforts, including four inviting bedrooms designed for true rest. Sip coffee on the porch, wander the orchard, or watch eagles and snow geese pass overhead. Peaceful yet close to Edison’s shops and restaurants, it’s a place for retreats, gatherings, and time that feels gently set apart from the everyday.
The space
The Big House is our historic farmhouse in the Skagit Valley, our home, which we now share with guests. It isn’t meant to feel new, but to remain true to itself, a place with history, gently made comfortable over time.
Over the past two years of welcoming guests, across more than 120 stays, we’ve heard a few things consistently. People sleep deeply here. They notice the details. And many describe the feeling of stepping into a quieter rhythm, almost like a time outside of time. So we’ve decided to let our guests, in a sense, describe the experience of the home.
Inside, the house is calm and lived-in. The main floor holds the rhythm of daily life, with one bedroom, a full bathroom, a comfortable living room, and a large dining room designed for gathering. A mud room, kitchen, and laundry space add to the ease of longer stays, making the home feel both functional and settled.
Upstairs, there are three additional bedrooms and one and a half baths, offering space to spread out while still feeling connected. Altogether, the bedrooms are generous and restful, with linen bedding and blackout curtains for uninterrupted sleep.
The kitchen is well suited to shared cooking, whether that’s a retreat meal, a simple holiday gathering, or a slow morning with coffee and bread from a nearby bakery. Antiques, vintage rugs, and natural textures are layered throughout the home in a way that reflects its age without feeling precious. Guests often note the balance between historic character and modern comfort, along with the care taken in cleanliness and the ease of arriving and settling in.
The Big House is often chosen for time together, women’s retreats, milestone birthdays, wedding weekends, holidays, birding retreats, and family visits, especially during tulip season. There’s space to spread out, while still allowing for connection.
Outside, the land becomes part of the stay. The front porch welcomes early morning coffee. Adirondack chairs offer a place for evening conversation. A quiet walk through the orchard to the chestnut trees has become a favorite nighttime ritual. Depending on the season, guests often spot bald eagles overhead, flocks of snow geese, owls at dusk, rabbits in the grass, and songbirds moving through the trees. In spring, the scent of lilacs carries across the property, and the changing light at sunset tends to draw people outdoors.
Though peaceful and rural in feel, the house sits close to Edison, Bow, Bay View, Chuckanut, and Bellingham, with easy access to farmstands, restaurants, Taylor Shellfish, and local shops. Many return season after season, for gathering, celebration, or simply for a slower stay. Pets are welcome here as well.
Location & Attractions
Centrally located in the Skagit Valley, the cottage offers easy access to local highlights such as Samish Bay, Deception Pass, Oyster Dome Trail, Chuckanut Drive, and Larrabee State Park. The San Juan Ferry in Anacortes is just 25 minutes west, while Mount Vernon, Burlington, and the North Cascades Highway lie to the east. Bellingham is 35 minutes away, and Mount Baker Ski Resort is under two hours for skiing, snowboarding, and hiking.
Seasonal highlights include the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in April, farmer's markets from spring to fall, and community events like Race Week, the Highland Games, and Ski to Sea.

Welcome. We’re delighted to have you as our guest and want your stay to be as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. Here’s everything you need to know to make the most of your time here.
As our guest, you’ll have full access to the entire home, providing plenty of space to unwind and enjoy. Please note, however, that the owner's closet, located off the laundry room, will be locked and is not accessible during your stay.
Feel free to explore the front and side yards, where you can immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the surroundings. To maintain a peaceful experience for everyone, we kindly request that the backyard behind the cottage remain exclusively for the use of our cottage guests.
For quiet walks or reflective moments, the breezeway between the cottage and the Big House serves as a shared communal space. To respect the privacy of all guests, we ask that time spent in the breezeway is kept brief and quiet hours are observed.
When arriving or leaving, please use the front door for entry and exit. Parking is conveniently located down the drive and to the left, next to the barn. The two parking spaces directly in front of the cottage, under the rose arbor, are reserved specifically for cottage guests. To ensure everyone’s convenience, please leave these spaces unblocked during your stay.
