NOTE: We welcome traveling nurses, doctors, and other health professionals, and are located near several major hospitals such as Huntington, Arcadia Methodist, USC Keck Verdugo and City of Hope. Our classic 1954 Prairie Schooner trailer called "Nellie" has been lovingly restored. It is a lot of fun and has a huge private yard, so feel free to bring the dogs!

The space
Our classic 1954 Prairie Schooner trailer called "Nellie" ain't the Ritz, but it is just the right combination of classy and trashy. Featuring cowboy and cowgirl chic complete with vintage 50s furniture, it is a lot of fun and has a huge private yard, so feel free to bring the dogs! Nellie has a full kitchen, double bed in the bedroom along with a full closet and cupboards for storage. The bathroom has a full bath (albeit a tiny tub!), and the cowboy futon in the living room can become an extra bed. But don't let the retro-chic fool you: Nellie also features a flat-screen HD TV/DVD combo with HD cable and its own ultra-fast Wi-Fi network.

CAVEAT: If you are a tall or broad person, this may not be for you. Also, if you are a "white glove" type person, this is glamorous camping, aka "glamping." No matter what we do, this is a trailer and will never be a hotel room. And we have lots of repeat folks who love the experience. So please, do not book this because it's a good value and then later complain that it was small! It's a trailer, not a hotel room.

The trailer is a cozy, fun, blast from the past. Appointed with authentic mid-century "cowboy" and Mexican decor, it's a fun place to hide out and finish that book, or experience tiny house living before you decide to downsize permanently yourself.

It has a California succulents and cacti garden for a sunny winter stay for those of you who want to get out of the cold of your home state or country.

Altadena is a beautiful and cozy community adjacent to Pasadena. We are close to the Rose Bowl, Old Pasadena, Gamble House, Huntington Library, downtown Los Angeles, Fuller Seminary, Jet Propulsion Lab, Carnegie Observatory and the Norton-Simon Museum. We are within easy driving distance to Universal City, 6 Flags, the LA County Arboretum, Hollywood and Burbank. For hikers, you can walk to the trailheads of 4 nationally recognized wilderness hikes and much, much more. Mass transit is a block away, and the charming shopping area of Altadena with its "home grown" charm harkens back to another time.

Altadena is a unique, one-of-a-kind area, and our trailer matches it perfectly with retro-chic charm coupled with the latest amenities.

Guest access
We let our guests use our laundry when they set up a specific time.

Please do not park in our driveway unless you get specific permission to do so. There is ample and safe street parking.

Other things to note
There is plentiful street parking right next to our driveway.

It's a homey, curious and eclectic neighborhood. It's full of tiny houses and also great estates from the turn-of-the-last century. We have all sorts of services within walking distance; restaurants, banks, grocery stores.

I have been hosting people with love and joy for decades! I love Mexico, Africa, China, folk art from all over the world, great food, books, theater, wonderful conversation and giving people what they want and need when they travel. We also have a dog door if you can't stand the idea of traveling without your dog. While we have some house rules about dogs, if your dog is a good guest, we want them with us! For an extra fee, we'll even watch them, feed them and let them play with our dogs while you go to Disneyland all day long. The bed in our guest suite is designed for readers. You don't even have to get out of bed to shut off the lights when you're reading into the wee hours. Do you need an escape to finish your thesis or your book? We just might have the right solution for you. You tell us what kind of office chair you need, and we'll rotate in the style that you want so you can hide and write all day. My husband, Ken Gruberman and I, are people folks but we also are privacy people and know how to leave guests alone.

During your stay
Hardly at all. The trailer, aka Nellie, has its own fenced-in yard and private entrance. It is completely separate from the rest of our property. We have had repeat guests whom we've never even met!
