We spent 14 days in "The Penthouse". It was an ideal base for our expeditions to the whole island (mainbusstation in front of the town) as to the near cliffs, walls and towncentre: the perfect choice for "pedestrians" like us. The area is very authentic, the people kind and open. The studio has a very enjoyable ambiente with a lot of light and air. Chris Briffa has a lot of knowledge about country and history, all his recommendations (as restaurants, cultural tips) are highly recommendable. Chris Briffa was uncomplicated, well organised and very caring about our needs. Everything worked perfectly.

  • The apartment is gorgeous, really beautifully designed and great location in Valletta. Chris was really helpful and a lovely host, really useful information in the flat as well on eating and what to do in the area. Amazing terrace although sadly we didn't have that much sun to enjoy it! Would definitely stay here if we came back to Valletta.

  • The apartment was thoughtfully designed and decorated. It is on the main street of Valletta and walking distance to everything. The nearby Ġugar Cafe and Django Jazz Bar, both a two minute walk from the apartment, are friendly and delicious. Unfortunately the wifi didn't work during our stay but most venues have wifi so it wasn't too much of a problem.

    Response from Chris:

So sorry about the WIFI, Livia - had you let us know or sent us an SMS we would have sorted it out right away - it was simply the airport express off its socket!

  • It was perfect. Everything was just like on th pictures. The water preassure in the shower could have been better, but besides that it was perfect.

  • Stylish place! Cool Location! Great view from the roof terrace!

Chris was a great host and gave us some great recommendations for restaurants and cool hotspots to hang!

We enjoyed our X-Mas and New Year in Valetta and will come back soon.

  • Beautiful stylish apppartment situated very closed to the main attractions. Although very central parking facilities were always available. Chris is a very caring host: The appartment is full equiped with tv & music as well as tea & coffee facilities and refreshments! Thank you very much chris, we felt like at home and will always come back!

  • Great apartment, true "local" feel due the neighbourhood location (ie not touristy, just perfect!) and wonderful views from the kitchen and terrace. The stairs can be a killer after a lovely meal and copious delicious Maltese wines (well it is important to sample the local produce!), but a small price to pay for a wonderful experience.
The apartment is beautifully designed and decorated, the Sliema ferry is only 10 minutes walk away and a walk up Merchant or Republic St's to central Valletta is never dull, as you experience different things every day with a cute little bar or shop you have never seen before. Photo opportunities abound! We also felt that staying in Valletta was more to our liking due to the local aspect vs Sliema or St Julian's which is more modern but also more crowded and potentially noisy. This location was quiet, and perfect for us.
The information booklet that is left in the apartment provided great suggestions for restaurants to try, mini-markets, attractions etc & was very useful. The recommendations are still accurate too which was great.
We were also invited to an exhibition by Chris and Lily which was great, as we got to meet some locals and ex-pats and you felt that the hosts really welcome you to their beautiful city.
Note: If you are staying for an extended period as we were, laundromats are impossible to fine in Valletta (there are some in Sliema), but laundry can be arranged if required (a little pricey, however).
No negative feedback, just be aware that sharing the top floor kitchen and terrace with the 2 floors below meant that the space wasnt entirely yours for the time you are staying. Overall, not a huge issue, just something to be aware of and determine for yourself if you want complete privacy or do not mind this.
Thanks for a wonderful time in Valletta guys and will definitely return to beautiful Malta.

  • The Penthouse (Studio) is very good located in the top corner of Malta's capital Valletta. Therefore you enjoy a beautiful view to the sea in two directions from the Penthouse. The interior is very stylish designed and well equipped for two guests. You have AC, an espresso machine and a hair dryer in the room. A well equipped kitchen is located at the roof before you enter the beautiful terrace. The whole building is secured with chip-cards, so no keys are needed. Directly around the place a lot of small, new and alternative places are opening or opened a few month ago - very cosy places with super friendly local people drinking, smoking and chatting into the night ;-) All the mainstream and more commercial restaurants, bars and shops are just a few streets to walk (<5min). Overall we highly recommend this Place to Malta/Valletta travelers!

  • Arty and trendy. One of the most comfy and intriguing Airb&b room I had ever booked. A design nest with view on History since Fort Saint Elmo and Manoel Island are at both the windows. The owner could not be more charming and helpful. I long to go back to visit !

  • I love airbnb for the interesting experiences it provides. The rentals are often quirky and out of the ordinary. So it was with the room rented from Chris and Lily in Valletta. Our room was a beautifully renovated space with a somewhat edgy design- what would you expect from a talented architect? We could share the kitchen and outside space (both upstairs on the top floor) with the staff of Chris's architectural firm which inhabited the rest of the building. Even in mid-October it was very hot and so we used the deck only in the evening when it was cooler and provided lovely views over the water. It was a highlight of our day though! Chris was very helpful with restaurant suggestions so we ate extremely well. The building was well located so we could walk everywhere we needed to go. All in all, Malta was a great experience.

About
Hey there! I am a Maltese architect who loves art and design, music and travelling. I greatly enjoy meeting and working with people from different nationalities and backgrounds. I was brought up in medieval Birgu and today I just love living and working in Valletta, Malta's busy capital by day which calms down and becomes truly enchanting by night. I believe that the best and most authentic travel experiences are about meeting the locals, spending some time with them, and living in their homes and by their ways. This is why we love AIRBNB; both as hosts and as guests... Well done for such a great idea, AIRBNB, and look forward to hosting you on our beautiful island or meeting you in your home!
