Rhumbutan House is located on the west coast of Siquijor Island on a low bluff above a narrow beach (15m wide) with incredible sunset views to Apo Island. Two air conditioned bedrooms, a small private plunge / swimming pool in the front garden overlooking the sea. A large shaded front deck and direct beach access. At high tide the sea almost reaches the garden; at low tide a rocky platform is exposed where locals search for shellfish in the traditional way. Tropical gardens. There are no hawkers
The space
The house is located next to the beach and close other resorts and bars / restaurants in the San Juan district. Peace and tranquility is assured. Snorkelling 30m off shore in the corals of the ‘house reef’ is amazing.
Wifi is available for free 40m away at 'Baha Bar' or sometimes directly from the house using ‘Henry’.
It is two bedroomed (w/ split aircon in the bedrooms) Master bedroom - queen sized bed and ensuite bathroom, view of the garden and ocean. Second bedroom - a bunk bed with double bed on the bottom bunk, view of the tropical garden behind the house.
There is a small but complete kitchen and a large living area which can be adapted into a second bedroom (fan only / no air con). The house has 2 bathrooms the second attached to the living area. Privacy is assured and access to reliable wifi from the Baha Ba'r restaurant.
The house comfortably sleeps 5 (Master queen bed, 2 bedroom with bunk bed, bottom is a double bed). The air conditioning is only in the bedrooms. The house can in total accommodate 6/7people if mattresses are also used in the common living area. Please note that there is no air conditioning in the living room but it has fans and the wind blows comfortably through the house when front doors are open to the onshore breeze.
Bed linen, towels and soaps are provided. Sheets are changed every 3 days. The house is tidied everyday but not cleaned every day, only every 3rd day. If something is not to your liking please inform the cleaning manager.
There is no washing / drying machine at the house but there is a laundromat nearby (100m left towards San Juan ‘Soap and Suds’)
We clean the room every day and change the sheets and towels every 3 days but should you require a towel change before 3 days please place the towel on the floor in the shower and there will be a 50 pesos per towel charge.
Guest access
The keys are left at the Baha Ba'r restaurant (open 4-11PM), pls ask @ the bar upstairs
Other things to note
The popular Baha Ba'r restaurant (see Google / trip advisor) is 40m away and has live but not loud music (7pm to 9.30-10pm) most nights.
You may experience some low background noise during this time if you are outside on the deck.
Shop - There is a General store (Fazenda) 50m away almost opposite Bahabar which sells all the basic needs for your stay (8am-8pm). It also has a good selection of organic produce and wine and spirits.
Power - The house is connected to the grid but also has its own generator in times of emergency 'brown-outs’. It may take a few minutes for the generator to be switched on. Power cuts are now very common on Siquijor unfortunately so pls be prepared for this probability.
Wifi - We probably have the best Wifi on the island and if the house Wifi is not adequate we recommend connecting at the Baha Ba’r next door.
Please no smoking inside the house or on the deck (please go into the garden).
Crime - Although Siquijor is almost crime free and is one of the safest places, not only in Philippines but in SE Asia, we do have a security guard who wanders around at night for the comfort of guests. He does not come into the property but checks the surroundings.
Transport - we have our own vehicles and can provide transport to and from the ferries provided you give us at 12 hours notice (we can accept requests in a shorter time frame but cannot guarantee we will pick up the message!).
Cost - 800 pesos each way from Siquijor and 1500 pesos from Larena port.
We rent out scooters for 400-500 pesos a day
We have a 6 yr old SUV for self drive rental, require valid driving license - 3,500 pesos a day
Water Pressure - Also from time to time the water pressure drops or reduces to a trickle when the municipality inexplicably and without warning undertake maintenance on the aging infrastructure. This is commonly the reason if there is no hot water as for hot water to function a head of pressure is required. However fortunately this a rare event but Airbnb recommended we mention this.
No dogs or pets allowed unless by agreement and they have left outside pls.
Pls be careful not to allow critters such as mosquitoes and cockroaches into your accommodation by leaving doors open and check clothes and luggage for ‘unwanted guests’!
Smoking - There is a strict no smoking policy inside the house by the owners request. Thank you
