Quiet Cottage Near Downtown

House - Entire home/apt · Hawthorne Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94301, United States

The Space

This simple and quiet cottage is in a wonderful Palo Alto location. Three blocks from downtown Palo Alto, a quarter mile from the bus and train station and Stanford mall, and 1.5 miles from the center of Stanford's campus. It's easy to get here and get around even with no car! We're also across the street from a lovely park, in case you're visiting with kids.

The cottage bedroom has a queen size bed that we have been told is very soft and luxurious. The bathroom is newly renovated with a tile shower and floor. There is a small kitchen with a microwave, cooktop, breakfast bar, and skylight which connects to the living room. There is free wi-fi and an in-unit washer and dryer. The parking is on-street, free, and usually easy to find. Even midday during the work week (the busiest time) you will probably not have to park more than a block away. We have an additional mattress that one person can sleep on in the living room if that works better for our guests. We can also make a port-a-crib and stroller available for your use if you're here.

I keep the calendar updated, so you should assume that if dates you are interested in are shown as not available, then they are not. Also I will not accept reservations more than three months in advance. I absolutely will not accept reservations for stays longer than 6 weeks.

We really appreciate any feedback our guests have on how to make our cottage more comfortable!

Guest Access

Guests will have the entire cottage to themselves. The entrance to the cottage is off a patio that is shared with the main house. During summer months we typically keep a table and chairs on the patio and you are welcome to enjoy those.

Interaction with Guests

We typically try to greet guests as soon as we see them after they arrive and then will chit chat if we see them on the patio or driveway after that. We are very happy to chat more though if you're interested. I especially like recommending my favorite restaurants and places to visit in the area as well as hearing more about what brings people to the area.

The Neighborhood

I love how near our neighborhood is to so many great shops and restaurants.

Getting around

Public transit is very convenient - we are about a quarter mile from the bus and train stations.

Parking is on street and easy to find on nights and weekends. On weekdays you may have to park a block or two away at worst.

It is possible, but annoying, to get to our house from the airport using public transit. I recommend a rented car, taxi, or shuttle.

  • My wife and I spent four pleasant days in this simple and comfortable backyard cottage on a quiet street. We easily found street parking for our rental car. University Avenue, with its wide variety of restaurants, was only three blocks away.

  • Teresa and Chris were great hosts. The cottage was exactly as advertised. Location perfect, right off 101, close to University Ave. Walking distance to almost anything. Best AirBNB locale yet.

  • I stayed in this lovely cottage while in Palo Alto to visit my son at Stanford. It is clean, bright, well-equipped and comfortable. Close walking to down town Palo Alto and easy to zip to Stanford. Set under a beautiful Magnolia tree. Would stay again for sure!

  • I stayed for 6 weeks in this greatly nice Cottage. Teresa and Chris were very friendly and helpful hosts. I appreciated the perfect location in Palo Alto. I could walk to all the restaurants in University Street and bike to my office in Redwood City as well. There is a beautiful magnolia tree direct in front of the appartment and the area is a really quiet and convenient.
Whenever I'm back in Palo Alto I'll try to stay in this appartment again!

  • Teresa and Chris were very polite and helpful. I was their first renter and was pleasantly surprised at how clean and proper their cottage was. Washer and Dryer in the cottage was a major bonus. Even though the place was very close to their house I felt complete privacy. It was very quick to walk to downtown Palo Alto and a wonderful area for a morning run. I would definitely rent from them again!

  • We were visiting relatives with our son (8 months at the time) and needed a place close to downtown Palo Alto. Teresa and Chris have the perfect location and setting. Parking was not an issue and the cottage was clean, quiet and accessible. Unlike a hotel, access to a washer/dryer was a great perk!

  • My husband was the happy guest at your perfectly located cottage. From the moment he arrived to his departure, everything about the cottage was positive. He slept soundly on your comfortable queen bed & was so pleased to have the extra living space with the kitchen area & refrigerator. The location was easy walking distance to the Stanford campus & football stadium ~ his destination!
He insists that we will stay at the cottage [if it is available] the next time that we visit Palo Alto. And I look forward to it.

Chris and I try to stay very active with running, hiking, skiing, and biking. Chasing our two kids also keeps us busy! I really like knitting and reading as well, and he is a sport programmer and loves home repair projects. We love world travel but haven't done that as much since the kids came along. My favorite trips of all time have been sailing trips in Greece and Thailand!
