Heritage Hill is one of America’s largest urban historic districts and was named by This Old House as one of the “Best Old House Neighborhoods” in the country. The homes date back to 1843 and range in style from High Victorian Gothic to Queen Anne, and Greek Revival to Prairie. Love historic homes? We’d be happy to provide you with a self-guided walking tour map. The Meyer May house, one of the most completely restored Frank Lloyd Wright homes, is just around the corner. Heritage Hill is a safe and friendly community, and was named one of the Top Ten “Great Places in America” by the American Planning Association.
We are within walking distance to many restaurants, breweries, shopping districts, museums, and antique stores. Nearby destinations include the Downtown Market, Wealthy Street Bakery, Martha’s Vineyard, The Electric Cheetah, Marie Catribe’s, Mangiamo’s, Donkey; and breweries including Brewery Vivant, Founders, Harmony, Grand Rapids Brewing Company and Hopcat. Close by shopping destinations include the Wealthy St, Cherry St, Eastown and Downtown shopping districts.
The Van Andel Arena is 1.5 miles from our home and the DeVos Performance Hall is 1.8 miles. We are also located close to three area hospitals including St. Mary’s, Spectrum, and Blodgett.
If you are driving, we have easy [and free!] street parking in front of the house. Uber is now available; and a Rapid bus stop is located at the end of our block and pretty much can get you anywhere you need to go. We are five minutes from the Amtrak, Greyhound & Megabus stations and would be happy to pick you up if our schedule allows. The Gerald R. Ford International Airport is approximately 20 minutes away.
Other Things to Note
*Grand Rapids Short Term Rental Ordinance:
Please note the license number at the top of the page indicates we are legally licensed by the City of Grand Rapids through a newly created Short Term Rental Ordinance. This license is now required for all Airbnb operators in Grand Rapids, and also means our home has been inspected and passed fire and safety regulations [all Airbnb hosts are legally required to post this license on the listing]. A note to our past guests: this new ordinance also limits Airbnb hosts to one room and a maximum of two adults. We regretfully are unable to rent our additional two rooms at this time.
A spontaneous stop off the highway to grab dinner while on vacation was the beginning of our love affair with Grand Rapids. We were so charmed with the area, we decided to relocate from Chicago. After three years of searching, we finally found our dream Victorian home in 2011 and decided to take the leap!
Between Karen’s love for decorating and all things Victorian, and Scott’s ability to fix anything [our friends call him “The House Whisperer” ], owning a 120 year old home is right up our alley. Scott and I met at church and were married in 2002. We absolutely love our new adopted hometown, and have been having a blast discovering all there is to see and do in Grand Rapids. We love entertaining, and look forward to hosting you!
