Cozy room in East Village with AC

Apartment - Private room · E 2nd St, New York, NY 10009, United States

This room is up three flights of stairs - it's pretty quiet, and in a great location - guests would share a bathroom and kitchen with Thomas, my roommate when I'm in NYC. Washer Dryer, plenty of clean linens, and a comfortable bed!

The Space

Rent my quiet back from the street room in the East Village. It's private and has everything you need, from wi fi to a tidy bathroom.! Its an extremely safe 24 hour neighborhood. There's lots of work by local artists in my kitchen, and a washer dryer you can use with the guidance of your hostess - it drains into the sink, nyc tenement style! Couples are ok, its just extra~! The bed is full size and has pillows galore, and the linens are fresh. It's a third floor walk up, in a well maintained prewar building, My block has a couple of nice restaurants, Supper and Il Bogato, and my favorite pizza is Rizzo's, a block and a half away on Clinton Street. Its close to a lot of pubs and shops but my particular street isn't noisy or crowded - things go block by block here in manhattan. I've had good experiences with all my guests so far - we've both been lucky!

Guest Access

Guests have a washer/dryer they can use, and I'll leave a list of reasonable cleaning ladies - there's a courtyard on the ground floor where we leave our recyclables and trash, and all the basic comforts.

Interaction with Guests

I'll be in California with my family - my usual roommate, Thomas, will be here - he's an experienced New Yorker, a low key photographer and personal assistant, and is a good guy to talk to if you're in the mood or need information. Otherwise he's usually in his room online or unwinding.

The Neighborhood

People are easy going here, they're not in such an incredible hurry, and I love to go to Tompkins Park, on 7th Street, and people watch in the central area. It's diverse, relaxed, and still quirky - the East Village and the Lower East Side are the best neighborhoods in NYC!

Getting around

It's two blocks from the 2nd Avenue Stop on the F Train (Orange line_, a few blocks from the 6 (Green) line, Bleecker or Astor Place, and I'm fond of the 14A and 15 Limited, buses are one of the best ways to look around our city streets, especially China Town.

Other Things to Note

The apartment is in a 100 year old tenement building, and it slopes a bit - that's characteristic of the old East Village, as we're close to sea level and in fact as you get down towards Avenue D and C, you're on former swamp land!

  • Jennifer was a great hostess, helping me , at the last moment, so I could stay near my daughter's apartment. She went out of her way to assist me. Classic east village apartment, augmented by a great TV and air conditioner.

Maniaques s'abstenir!

  • Jennifer has a nice cosy apartment in an excellent location in NYC. She anticipated and provided everything we could possibly need and we had a great time!

  • Jennifer's place was great! Located in a cool part of the city and close to the subway. As a hostess, Jennifer was very friendly and helpful with coordinating my arrival. Would stay again!

  • I had no problems with the host or the listing. The room was cozy and maybe a little warm, but they had an A/C unit in there and it kept the room temperature fine. The building is easily accessed and only a block or so from Houston. I would stay there again if the opportunity arose.

  • We stayed in jennifer’s place for 2 nights
We were in the back bedroom
So it is not the “room for rent” with the red blanket that we see on the picture
we were disappointed because the back bedroom is smaller, with no sun at all (there is a little window with no view, just a wall so it is very dark if you don’t switch on the light)
there are also no armoire and dresser space so we have to put all our staff on the ground
there is a heating pipe in the bedroom which makes a lot of noise in the night (we were awake several times in the night because of that noise)
there is also a little dog in the apartment who barked the first night (at 1:00 AM in the morning) because he was alone (the roomate was not aware that somebody was renting the back bedroom)
    the bathroom door doesn’t close
we never saw Jennifer. We met another person (Leslie) who gave us the key when we arrived.
we didn’t see Leslie at the end of the staying so we left the keys in the room.
However, this place is well located, and if you have a car the parking is free in the street

  • We enjoyed our stay at Jennifer's place. Leslie was very friendly who gave us lots of kind tips to move around NYC. Will be back again to stay at this place next time when I come NYC again.

About
I'm a New York based writer and singer who does a lot of spoken word gigs, and often visits San Francisco. I have 4 pop type books published, I hang out at Double Down, Eastern Bloc, and many other spots in the East Village. NIcky's Vietnamese is right across the street, and has the best sandwiches I've had in my life! My friend Leslie will be your host if I'm in California - she's a painter and really knows the area. We're pretty laid back!
