Using our cell phone, we arranged to meet Dominique, who was very welcoming, enthusiastic, and helpful. She showed us around and then indicated a good place to park about a block away. We eagerly accepted her invitation to attend the Bastille Day party they were having to view the fireworks the next evening. And what an incredible show that was! Fireworks will never be the same! We got to meet hospitable Tom and their friends, all outgoing, interesting people, who had brought delectable food. That added a personal touch to our stay that made it unforgettable.
The cottage itself was absolutely charming and well-appointed with beautiful French linens and appealing artwork, comfortable beds and efficient plumbing. We enjoyed using the well-equipped kitchen as well. We washed our clothes several times in the utility garage across the street and dried them on a rack on the patio above (accessible by a narrow, ladder-like stairs). Ah, the spatious patio and the rooftop garden! So lovely, and I was lucky enough to water the plants each day. Unfortunately, our stay was too short to take advantage of that space, and my husband's arthritic knees made it difficult for him to climb up.
One minor inconvenience we had was an incorrect code to access the internet, but that was eventually rectified. Also, we discovered that Tom and Dominique were not always accessible by cell phones when they went back to their home in a nearby town. Connections were fine when they were in Carcassonne.
The proximity to the ramparts of Carcassonne was an amazing experience. And the convenience of a nearby path to access the fortress a plus. I can't imagine a better place to stay while visiting Carcassonne and highly recommend it. It was the perfect way to end our trip to France before heading on to Spain!
And Tom and Dominique are generous hosts who love to meet people from around the world.
