This upstairs apartment in a Victorian cottage (1884) has a private riverfront balcony and a perfect view of the Iconic Edmund Pettus Bridge on the banks of the Alabama River. Charming, comfortable and cozy, it has 12 foot ceilings and is filled with heirlooms and original art & decor! Waking, you see the river from your pillow! Featured twice in the Cottage Journal Magazine. It is downtown, near museums, art galleries and boutique shopping.

The space
The Bridge Tender's Cottage is truly unique. Listed on the National Register for Historic Places, it was built in 1884 for the bridge tender who turned the existing bridge so riverboats could pass down the river. That bridge was torn down in 1940 when the historic Edmund Pettus Bridge was built...the bridge that played a key role in attaining voting rights for all people. The movie SELMA was filmed on that bridge, replaying the history of the Selma Marches to Montgomery led by Dr. Martin Luther King in 1965. The NPS Interpretive Center and the Bridge are only a block away. You will have the entire upper floor of the cottage. The Bridge Tender's is a place to relax in as well as sightsee and has its own library so you can have a read and a rest by the river. The rooms give the feeling of being on a cozy, stationary house boat. You can see both the sunrise and sunset as you enjoy coffee or wine and cheese on the balcony...a fine spot for entertaining! There are also wonderful audio tours available on the Tour Selma App and a free list of AC's Picks.
