Get away from it all in one of two luxurious seaside cabanas with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. Surround yourself by nature in this remote part of coastal Ecuador, about 30 km south of Pedernales. A perfect couples retreat with everything you need for a romantic getaway!

The space
Casita Mar is one of two cabanas available on the Punta Pacifica property, perched on a 150 ft point above the Pacific Ocean, with a perfect westward view of the sunset. (See "Casita Selva" listing for the other cabana). It has open and covered terraces kept cool by the lovely sea breeze, for lounging in the sun or shade. The spacious thatch-roof cabana has a king-size bed, two person shower, and a kitchenette with 2-burner stove, coffee maker, microwave, mini-fridge, and basic utensils so you can cook simple meals. Although the cabanas are geared for couples, an additional cot can be requested for a child for an additional cost of $10/night. Each cabana can accommodate a maximum of 4 people, though bring extra bedding if you have four people in your party.

A short hike through native forest (3 minutes) takes you to a private beach. There's a thatched shelter with hammocks by the beach. At low tide, you can walk for miles along the beach, both to the north and south. Just a few minutes stroll south is a natural rock formation just off the beach called the Arco del Amor.

Guest access
Each cabana is completely private, but guests also have access to the patio space of the main house, the roof deck on the main house for sunning, and the beach. The interior of the main house is off-limits as it is where the owners and manager live. Parking is available on site. Note that no pets or children under 5 are permitted.

Other things to note
The entire Punta Pacifica property is approximately 4.5 hectares (10 acres), and contains the owner's house, the two rental cabanas, and the caretaker's house, as well as forest and landscaped areas. A long driveway from the road (~400m) takes you to the houses, where there is parking for up to 3 vehicles. Although buses pass on the main road by the property regularly, a car is highly recommended for getting to nearby towns for shopping, internet, and sightseeing. Punta Pacifica is unmarked on the road, and can be difficult to find, so please read the directions on how to get there after booking!

Location

Jama, Manabi, Ecuador

This part of Ecuador's coast is still relatively undeveloped, although tourist hot-spots like Canoa and Pedernales are within an hour away. Unspoiled beaches, intact tropical forest, and small rural villages make this area the perfect place for a weekend getaway or a longer escape from humanity. This is a place to slow down, unwind, and enjoy peaceful solitude. There is no TV and no internet (although there is Claro cell phone signal), giving you that extremely rare opportunity to totally disconnect. Nevertheless if you're tired of just relaxing :), there is plenty to do, especially for the adventurous and the nature lover. Go boogie-boarding on your own beach, or go surfing at Canoa or Cabuya. Go bird-watching and see the howler monkeys at the Lalo Loor Dry Forest reserve. Be sure to try Don Lalo's delicious yogurt available at the stand 1 km from the reserve. Or go a bit further into the mountains to the village of Camarones for a visit to the Jama-Coaque reserve in the coastal cloud forest. Walk down the beach and buy fish from the fishermen in Tasaste. Have a romantic dinner or a glass of wine at Punta Prieta just down the road. And if you feel like dancing and hanging out with the crowds in the tourist towns, there's plenty of that in Canoa and Pedernales on weekends. The closest gas station is in Jama (20 minutes south). On the way, make sure to stop on the way for some Chilean empanadas at a the roadside Posada del Chileno. If you're staying more than a few days, you can go grocery shopping in Pedernales or Bahia. For short stays, it is recommended you bring food with you. Lots of coastal sites are an easy day trip away. It is highly recommended to have a car, though buses go by hourly during the day and can take you up and down the coast.
