We are situated in the township of Bellingen on the north side of the river, within walking distance of the main street.
Bellingen is a thriving transition town on the north coast of New South Wales. 20km from us are some of the most beautiful, clean beaches in the world. 20km in another direction brings you to the Dorrigo National Park, a spectacular rainforest which has world heritage listing. 15km in another direction brings you to the Promised Land and the pristine swimming holes of the Never Never.
Bellingen town is renowned for quirky cafes, organic food outlets and it's weekly organic food markets and monthly community market. There are vintage ware emporiums, fashion outlets, some great op shops, a lovely craft supply shop, art shows, festivals, and much much more.
Every third Saturday of the month is the community market. This market has been going for over 30 years and is well worth a visit. There are many many stalls including lots of good food to eat. There is usually live music at this event.
On the second and fourth Saturday of each month is the Organic Food Market. This market sells mostly locally grown and manufactured organic foods. You can have a coffee and cake and listen to some great music as well.

Interaction with guests
I go through the apartment when guests arrive, to show them where everything is and to pass on free wifi details. I keep this brief, as most people need to settle and relax soon after arrival. I have loads of information in a pack of local restaurants, shops, areas of natural beauty and things to look out for when visiting Bellingen. Most people want to share their holiday with their loved ones, with just the briefest interaction. I am happy to answer any questions you may have and I enjoy a chat when my guests seek me out.
We live in a lovely green part of Bellingen. There is a walking path along our street. We have seen a koala in the park 200 metres from our house from time to time. There is a nature reserve behind the property. This acts as a wonderful encouragement to native birds and animals. I have planted out to encourage birds into my garden too. I have a stingless native bee hive on the property.
To walk into the main street from here, you cross over the Bellinger River. If it's hot you could stop for a swim. If you are out down by the river or looking over the river from up town as night falls, you will probably be amazed by the number of Flying Foxes taking off from Bat Island. They set off for a night of feeding in the rainforest. It is a sight to see!
There is no public transport in Bellingen. You can walk to town from here or we can pick you up from town by arrangement if you like. There is a taxi service in town. If arriving at Coffs Harbour airport we can arrange pick up. Prior arrangement would need to be made and costs covered.
Other things to note
I love being part of the Airbnb community. This is a very broad and diverse community. I love this about it. I love meeting people from different backgrounds and places. I am always respectful of my guests and their needs.
No smoking on our premises. No pets inside the apartment. Please leave your shoes at the door as the apartment is carpeted.
When you arrive: please drive right into the driveway and park directly in front of the bamboo screen. This will allow all cars to come and go freely. If you don't want to back out onto the street you may prefer to reverse into the driveway.
Hi I'm Rae. I've lived in Bellingen for 26 years. I make stained glass windows. I have a kiln in which I make fused glass jewellery and plates and inclusions for my windows. I love doing mosaics as well. I eco dye silk fabric too. I love creating art. I've recently taken up crochet and knitting. I've been into eating wholesome food for 30 years. I love gardening and growing some of my own food. I've kept chickens for the last 13 years. I love my girls (hens) for their eggs, their work in the garden and for being excellent company. I've recently become the proud keeper of a hive of Australian native stingless bees. They are the most adorable creatures around. I love living in a rural area. Being so close to nature is very important to me. I've planted out my garden to encourage birds and other native animals to visit.
The first time I entered Bellingen I felt as if I'd come home. I love the beauty of this whole area. I love swimming in the river and creeks and the ocean near here as they are so clean. I love gardening and growing my own food. I eat really healthy simple food and I love to cook. I love the music festivals and the art that is prevalent in Bellingen.
As the apartment is self-contained, I like to leave it up to my guests as to how much they want to engage. I have traveled extensively and know the importance of finding a place that feels private and like home, even if only for one night. I try to make our apartment a sanctuary for people to rest and relax. I have put together lots of information about the area and I am happy to pass on my local knowledge of places and events of interest.
I enjoy getting to know the places I travel to by staying in smaller establishments and finding the places to eat the locals go to. I like to get a real feel of the places I go. Possibly my favourite place to visit so far is the Cook Islands. I relate to island time. Or maybe Bali, Portugal was amazing and Spain. I love travelling! When I think back over travel I've done, I often remember the places that have been sanctuaries for me and I've tried to create that here for my guests.
