The Space

Our three bedroomed apartment is beautifully located in an end of terrace Victorian house at the foot of the Castle Hill in the market town of Kendal. It is in a quiet neighbourhood surrounded by trees and greenery but only 5 minutes walk along the river bank from the town centre and its traditional pubs, bars and restaurants.

You can walk up to the castle ruin, perfect for evening sunsets and enjoy panoramic views of the Lake District hills and the town. Or take a stroll along the river to the Abbot Hall Art Gallery and Museum of Lakeland Life.

The lower ground floor apartment is tastefully furnished with a mix of antique and modern furniture. It has two bedrooms and one sitting room/bedroom. There are TVs in the bedrooms and a TV/DVD player in the living room. The kitchen is fitted with everything you need to enjoy a home from home stay such as oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. The bathroom has a bath with shower over.

Kendal is known as the gateway to the Lake District but has lots to offer too, from micro breweries to theatre. The Brewery Arts Centre has a music venue, theatre and cinema screens as well as bars and a restaurant - see what's on there by going to breweryarts website. The pubs in town offer an eclectic mix of local ales and live music to suit all tastes.

A small town with a big heart, in November Kendal hosts its annual Mountain Festival. Each year it welcomes thousands of outdoor enthusiasts from around the world to celebrate mountain culture and adventure in film, lectures, art and literature.

‘Kendal’ is the biggest event of its type in the world and it’s the main social event for outdoor enthusiasts in the UK. With hundreds of film screenings including high-profile premières plus plenty of speakers and special guests making this Festival a must-do long weekend in the Lake District. For more info visit the mountainfest website.

Throughout the Summer Lakes Alive put on numerous free events all over Cumbria culminating in Mintfest at the end of the Summer. These events are great family occasions involving drama and spectacle. You can find out about the programme of events from Lakesalive website.

Mintfest is an annual international festival of street arts which draws talented performers from all over the world as well as visitors to watch them. It's a fantastic free event with something for everyone to enjoy. See the Mintfest website to find out about events for 2014.

October 18-20 2013 will see the first International Festival of Comic Arts coming to Kendal. Some of the best known Graphic Novel artists will be giving talks, workshops and demonstrations about their art form. There will be exhibitions, book/comic signing, question and answer sessions as well as films during the weekend. It's hoped that this too will become an annual event see the comicartfestival website for details.

There are also various food and beer festivals which you can find out about on the cumbriacamra website.

  • The apartment was in a great part of Kendal, very close to the castle and within easy walking distance of town center. The apartment was quite big with very comfortable rooms. The host was very friendly and willing to accommodate us. She even provided information about local sights and restaurants.

    Response from Rachel:

Hi Janet, thanks for your feedback. I do provide towels so there should have been enough for each of you. I let them know how many people are staying and the cleaners usually put them in each room, I'm sorry for the oversight. I wish you'd let me know when you were here, I would have sorted it out for you, they were probably put away in the cupboard, likewise with the hair dryer. I will just mention it to Sebastian and make a note to self to make sure for future guests. I think it's a good suggestion to have a hair dryer, I don't use them myself so don't think of it but I understand they're bulky to carry on flights so I have put one in the kitchen drawer now which will benefit other travellers. Thanks for the suggestion. Dripping taps again thanks for mentioning. I've had a look and think washers need changing, another job for Sebastian, it's not a huge problem but it wastes water and we pay for our usage.
I'm glad you had a nice time staying here. It's important for me that people enjoy staying at the flat and I do my best to enable that. As I'm living separately I do try to ensure people to know that they can contact me if they need anything. Once again thanks for your feedback and suggestions they are helpful. Best wishes, Rachel

  • After a few days in the lakes my 2 brothers and I stayed in this great flat to enjoy kendal before heading home. Location is just as described and very easy to get into town. It is situated in a very pleasant cul de sac so very quiet with safe parking.
The flat worked perfectly for our needs with a decently equipped kitchen.
A very nice touch was a pint of milk being provided in order to have a cup of tea and relax.
Rachel as a host was great, she kept in touch and was very hospitable giving us some info upon arrival but then let us get on with our stay.
Massive bedrooms completed the stay with very comfy double beds. I definitely recommend this place if visiting kendal!

  • Rachel was a fantastic host, she welcomed us on arrival and showed us around the apartment, which is beautiful and very spacious. Rachel was very informative about Kendal, explaining where the restaurants where located, current events within town and had left a detailed information pack in the kitchen.
The area was lovely, if you walk up the hill it leads you to the castle with amazing views of the town. It is quiet and only a 10 minute walk into the town centre.

  • What a wonderful place to stay. We arrived and shortly after a slightly frustrating phone call which didn't find Rachel , she came and let us in to her beautiful apartment. The upholstery is all so beautiful, and comfortable. Two beds just right, one a little hard. Lovely stay, nice kitchen, fab location in the town, generous host. Thanks Rachel, it was so special. Xxx

  • A nice apartment, well-located in Kendal. Rachel was a good host, and we enjoyed our visit a great deal. I was particularly pleased by the way she and her partner communicated in detail with me, well in advance of our trip, regarding some specific medical-related requirements.

About
I work with my partner, we run a business together in Kendal, Cumbria. Living in the countryside is great but I like to be near the city too. I love to see new places and different architecture. I enjoy visiting art galleries, looking in shops and eating good food in good surroundings.
