Swim, walk or lounge on the beach while eagles soar overhead. Cook in a professional kitchen and dine/relax on the screened porch overlooking the Hudson. 15 min. from Hudson Amtrak; close to Catskill trails & Hunter/Windham ski resorts.

The space
This is a one-of-a-kind vacation home located on the Hudson River. The upstairs has a master bedroom (queen size bed) facing the Hudson; two guest bedrooms (each with a full size bed); and a large bathroom facing the Hudson with shower and clawfoot tub. The main floor is an open plan with a living area, dining area, and fully-equipped kitchen (with stove/microwave, toaster oven, food processor, stand mixer, and wide range of pots, pans, and utensils. a 10'x30' screened in porch has a large dining table and comfortable chairs to relax with a full river view.

Guest access
You will have access to the main floors of the house plus the basement for the washer and dryer, as well as the backyard and beach. Guests may NOT use the kayak or canoe but there are kayak rental companies in the area. The beach is lovely and the Hudson is rated swimmable. The Hudson is also an active shipping river, and you will see giant barges coming up and down the river. (They are too big to stop for swimmers and kayakers/canoers, so it is important to stay out of the center of the river.) Please exercise caution if you do swim, and remember that all activities are at the guests' own risk.

Other things to note
The Hudson River is rated swimmable in Coxsackie. However, your use of the river is entirely at your own risk.

Location

Coxsackie, New York, United States

Coxsackie is a small, historic waterfront village with a one-block main street that has a bank, post office, restaurant, library, a lovely wine shop called the Reed Street Bottle Shop http://www.reedstreetbottleshop.com and a general store selling gourmet food, beer, coffee and snacks.

West Coxsackie (just 10 minutes from the house) has a Top's supermarket, pharmacy, diners and restaurants, a Stewarts gas station, and an emergency medical clinic. The village of Athens (15 minutes away) has a brew pub (Crossroads) serving locally-sourced vegetables and meats, a bakery, and Black Horse Farms, a farmstand selling local vegetables and baked goods. The house is a 20 minute drive to Hudson, which has many antique shops and restaurants (and an Amtrak station for trains from NYC and Albany and points in-between). Windham and Hunter ski slopes are about 45 minutes away. The area has many rural roads for cycling and the hiking trails of the Catskills are an easy drive.

I'm a born and bred New Yorker, but I love to spend weekends at my home on the Hudson, where I enjoy swimming, relaxing on the beach, kayaking, and writing while occasionally gazing out at the river. While I'm here I bake bread, garden a bit, have friends over for dinner, and just relax. I enjoy cycling and running on the back roads of Greene County, and hiking in the Catskills. My favorite seasons up here are Fall and Spring. During the week I'm a professor, researching and teaching about urban food policy and health.
