This charming cabin once stood proudly in the lively silver mining town of Irwin, Colorado—also known as Ruby or Ruby Camp. Back in the late 1800s, Irwin was booming… until the silver bust of 1884 brought it all to a halt. Luckily, the end of the mining rush meant cabins like this one were up for grabs—if you could move them. With the help of friends, horses, mules, and a lot of determination, this cabin made the journey on logs from Irwin to its current home, right in the heart of Crested Butte. It’s believed the move happened around 1913—hard to imagine, right?

Tucked away in the beloved Soupçon Alley, this location offers the best of both worlds: you’re just half a block from Crested Butte’s historic downtown, packed with funky shops, great restaurants, and lively nightlife—but your home base stays peaceful and private. And if you’re heading to the slopes or trails, the FREE Mountain Express bus stop is just a minute’s walk away, taking you straight to some of the best skiing and biking in the country.

As for the cabin itself? Let’s just say it has personality. It’s a little crooked, plenty quirky, and incredibly special.

There are two ways to enter the property. One leads through a covered patio and into a gear-ready shed—perfect for storing everything after a day outside. From there, enter under the stairs and step into a cozy movie room outfitted with a huge sectional, a plush bean bag, and a Fire TV for streaming your favorite shows or rewatching your day’s adventures. You’ll also find a full-sized washer and dryer, perfect for resetting after an action-packed day.

Just off the hallway is the full bath, complete with an antique clawfoot tub (perfect for showers; baths not so much). Heads up for tall guests—if you’re over 6’, mind the low clearance! Across the hall is a queen bedroom on the ground floor that showcases a preserved section of the cabin’s original exterior. A colorful stained-glass window—added during a 1960s expansion—adds a whimsical touch, and this room even features its own private entrance.

Upstairs, the cabin really opens up. The main living space welcomes you with vaulted A-frame ceilings, hand-forged ironwork by local artisans at Blackstar Ironworks, and a spacious, social layout. The newly updated kitchen is ready for home-cooked meals or delicious takeout shared with friends and family. The primary bedroom with a king bed is just off the living room, and another stained-glass detail adds to the cozy, creative atmosphere.

For a truly one-of-a-kind stay in Crested Butte, this historic cabin offers a rare and memorable experience. We hope you enjoy your time here as much as we do!
