About this listing

Charming historic train station (ca.1830) located near the southeast corner of Cayuga Lake, across the street from Stewart Park, the Visitor Center and the Cayuga Waterfront Trailhead.

The space

Charming historic train station (ca.1830) located near the southeast corner of Cayuga Lake, across the street from Stewart Park, the Visitor Center and the Cayuga Waterfront Trailhead.

The property has 3 cottages:

The main house has one bedroom with queen size bed, a kitchen, sitting room, and one bathroom.

The 2nd cottage, nicknamed "The Shack," is an art studio, with a bedroom upstairs which could sleep 2. An air mattress can be put in the downstairs room for additional guests. This cottage is only available in summer months. Pictures of the space are on my photo album.

In addition, there is a 3rd cottage (station master's house) with a bedroom upstairs with views of the lake, a lounge downstairs which sleeps an additional guest, and a bathroom. This cottage is also available as a separate listing on Airbnb. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/632490

Renting the entire property (3 buildings in total, 5 beds, 2 bathrooms) is $260 per night, plus an $80 cleaning fee. For parties over 6 people, a $15 fee will be added per night for each extra person.

There is enough room in the driveway to park 8 vehicles.

Guest access

Walking distance to swimming beach and Stewart Park. A short bike ride (or 30 minute walk) to the Ithaca Farmer's Market, and a five minute drive to downtown Ithaca and Cornell.

The main house has a full kitchen and bathroom, and a bbque grill outside. The cottage has a mini fridge, coffee maker and toaster, and a tv and dvd player. It also has a bathroom.

Interaction with guests

There is one very friendly indoor/outdoor kitty who lives here (named Blue), and he loves staying at his home. We don't like stressing him out by making him leave whenever we have guests, so we'd love it if you could feed him during your stay, but I can also arrange to have someone else pop over to do it.

Other things to note

There is an AC unit in the cottage, but not in the main house. The main house stays cool on hot days due to high ceilings, excellent circulation and many windows with breezes off the lake.

We stayed in the cottage for the first two nights nice modern plumbing. The last day we stayed in the house. To gain a full experience how Cool the place is is to stay at the house. The cat will keep you company as it likes to be petted. I couldn't stay at the artist Cottage because there were no restroom. Many flowers are starting to bloom on the property. You can do your laundry in the restroom. Thank you for letting us stay in your home. I appreciate the closeness you gave us to your life.

Wyle was very welcoming, laid back and offered lots of good suggestions. Her house is very comfortable, fun and funky. The location is fantastic: we walked in the park every morning. It is close to everything, but feels far away. There is a great outdoor space to eat. If we had to be indoors the whole time I think it might have felt cramped. The 3 separate cabins gave our group the right amount of alone time and togetherness.

Wiley could not have been a more welcoming host and my family had plenty of space to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The views from the porches are spectacular and we had a lovely family dinner at the site. We grilled out and sat at the outdoor table, then enjoyed a bonfire later that night. The location is within 5-10 minutes of the Cornell campus and we were able to to easily get to all of the graduation events, despite the crowds. Her place is so unique and artistically decorated. Every day, I noticed something new. The grounds are quite beautiful and relaxing, we really felt like we were out in the country, though we had the convenience of a campus and a grocery store close by. My daughter fell in love with the kitties and was very sad to leave them.

We had a wonderful stay at Wylie's Signal Camp! The house is delightfully eclectic and surrounded by lush vegetation of all sorts. We found it centrally located and easy to get around to the various activities we planned in Ithaca and beyond(hiking, swimming at falls, waterskiing, lake swimming, exploring Ithaca and cornell and Ithaca college...) Nice breezes on the porches, delicious coffee, a grille and outdoor eating area and 2 friendly cats all added to our pleasant stay. Wylie was super friendly and very responsive thru the whole process. We highly recommend her place to any and all travelers.

What a great experience! Signalcamp was the perfect place to host our reunion. The buildings are all cozy and have an amazing rustic aesthetic. Located on the edge of town with lake views it was the perfect place to "get away", yet still have easy access to everything that Ithaca has to offer. We stayed in the winter so we can only imagine how nice the property must be in the summer and hope to experience that in the future!

Signalcamp was absolutely the most perfect location for our group. We were a group of college friends coming in for a wedding and the unique layout with diverse options for sleeping was perfect for our hodge-podge group. The property itself is so unique and fun, a place like none other! We loved hanging out on the porch with views of the lake and saw some spectacular sunsets. We were lucky to be able to rent the whole property and every space was well thought out and had its own personality. Wylie, the host, was super accommodating and made us feel welcome. She left us a welcome basket and did a walk through with us, which helped alleviate any questions we had while there. When we did have questions, she was incredibly responsive. While there we took care of her two cats, Blue and Freddy, who were such sweethearts and cuddle-monsters. I would happily stay at this location again!

Wylie User Profile

Wylie Schwartz is a native Ithacan, and a doctoral candidate in art history at Binghamton University specializing in postwar European art.

Both of her listings - the Waterburg church and "Signalcamp" (a former switchback to the railroad, ca.1830) were lovingly restored from a derelict state by her beloved friend, British visual artist Paul Chambers, who turned them into works of 'living sculpture.' Wylie views herself as simply one of many caretakers along the way who have looked after these special places, and she loves to share them with others.
