You will have the entire 3rd floor apartment, 1-bedroom, living room/office convertible to second bedroom, a whole-body massage chair, a bidet, a Toshiba electric keyboard, Netflix and HBO Max. Secluded back yard, parking available. It's in a 1880s Victorian building with CX Silver Gallery and Cai's Dim Sum catering service on the first floor. We are art lovers and foodies. You are surrounded by art and you can even order meals prepared by Artist/Chef Cai from the downstairs Dim Sum kitchen.

The space
The entire 1880s Victorian building has been turned into an art and culinary arts center. The third floor self-contained apartment surrounded by art and our collection of books. The apartment features a bedroom with double bed, a whole-body massage chair, a Toshiba electric keyboard (the North Room); a living room/office convertible to a second bedroom with a double-sized futon mattress (the West Room). Both West and North Rooms have TV (with Netflix and HBO Max) and air conditioning as needed. There are sloping eaves in places, a cozy tub/shower, and 6'1" door thresholds. Second floor is our living area with artist/chef Cai's art studio and a common book room. First-floor is CX Silver Gallery and Cai's Dim Sum catering service. The back yard is secluded, and off-street parking is available. There is a separate entrance for the apartment through one of the art galleries from the side door towards the back of the building. No smoking on the premises and no pets. No partying and no excessive drinking. All house rules are not negotiable. The building is on Route 9, 2 miles from downtown Brattleboro, one mile from I-91.

We love art, making art, and making food as art. We enjoy Chinese wellness routines and exercises. We own and run C.X. Silver Gallery Fine Art (cxsilvergallery) and Cai's Dim Sum Catering (dimsumvt) open by appointment year round. Cai is an artist, chef-owner of the catering and gallery, tai chi master, exhibition curator, and teacher of Chinese and art. Cai offers lessons in tai chi, painting, Chinese calligraphy and brushwork, and Chinese cooking. Adam is an arts administrator/manager for the gallery and catering, editor/publisher for gallery publications. We've been in Brattleboro for eighteen years and have loved raising our kids here. Now both kids are grown and residing respectively in Chicago and New York. The first floor has the art galleries and center for catering. The second floor is our residence plus there is a book room in the common area that connects the stairwells up to the apartment. The third floor is the self-contained apartment featuring an eat-in kitchen, a bedroom, a living room / office convertible into a 2nd bedroom, and a bathroom. This Victorian building is from the 1880s and the height of the apartment doorframes is 6'1" - the shower area is quite cozy, located as it is under the eaves. Out back, there is a secluded garden with towering trees. The building is on Route 9, a mile from I-91 exit 2 and two miles from Brattleboro’s downtown. The town is full of artists, arts organizations and art related events and activities, kid- and family-friendly activities, lots of nature, farms, and mountains not far off.

During your stay

We welcome and orient you to the house. If you like, we can help you get to know Brattleboro -- where to eat, where to hike/swim/ski/golf and do other active things, where to shop, and what to see. Most of the time you'll be on your own.
