The Ferns Hideaway is a stylish and immaculate award winning home. Designed with an elevated floor plan to capture the feeling of living in amongst the rainforest. The house backs onto the bush and birdsong of the national park.

The space
This house is perfect for those wanting the privacy of exclusive use of an entire luxurious house all to themselves. Set in a peaceful area amongst the trees, The Ferns Hideaway Retreat is only a few minutes' walk from Franz Josef's hot pools, restaurants, supermarket and activities. The house is an award winning architecturally designed home set elevated amongst the rainforest.

Guest access
Guests will have full, exclusive access to the entire house and property including off-road parking, backyard, large deck, full kitchen, three bedrooms (2 queen size beds, 2 single beds, 1 portacot) two bathrooms, laundry, living and dining areas.

For families with little ones: There is a highchair and a pram available available for use and a box of toys in the lounge to keep your little ones amused. Please advise if you need a portable cot set up before your arrival.

An Apple TV unit is in the living area for you to view your holiday photos on the TV or if you want to kick back and watch a movie on Netflix.

Unlimited wifi is provided free of charge.

Unlimited local landline calls are also provided free of charge.

The house is heated with a large wood fire and an electric heat pump in the living area. There are also electric heaters in the hallway and bathrooms.

All beds have electric blankets, pillow top
mattresses and quality linen to ensure you have a good nights sleep

The neighbourhood is quiet with brilliant mountain and rainforest views.

The house is located just around the corner from the Glacier Hot Pools and King Tiger and Monsoon restaurants and the Franz Josef Glacier Guides.

The house is within easy walking distance to the main town centre (5 minutes' walk). Excellent cellphone reception.

Franz Josef is a fun, vibrant and busy little town (especially in the summer) where aviation is a big part of the economy, it's home to NZ's busiest heliport for access to the world famous glaciers for a scenic flight or a Heli Hike and NZ's highest skydive, Skydive Franz at 13, 16 and 19,000ft.

There are many top quality restaurants, cafes and bars and plenty of activities to keep people busy. There are lots of nature walks for those wanting to enjoy the stunning views of the forests, mountains, lakes, rivers and ocean.

Franz Josef has been Richards home for most of his life and being a Helicopter Pilot involved in tourism and Search & Rescue, he knows these mountains and this area like the back of his hand. Mel is Australian born and has a background in search & rescue and law enforcement but has a huge love of the land of the long white cloud. If you're staying in our home that means work has taken us overseas so please enjoy our home as we do and respect it as we do. We grab any opportunity to travel and prefer staying in self-catered accommodation so that is what we offer our guests too. Please, enjoy our home and hope you take away some wonderful memories of your time in Franz Josef.
