Designed for honeymoons, anniversaries, and unforgettable proposals, Winking Owl is a romantic cabin within walking distance of downtown Mentone. Park once, stroll to dinner, and return to your private retreat in the woods.

This open-concept cabin blends style and comfort with a soaking tub beside the queen bed, gas fireplace, outdoor shower, and firepit. A guest room with queen Murphy bed and drop-down desk offers space for remote work or an additional couple.

The space
Cozy yet modern with an airy loft feel, Winking Owl is filled with natural light and peaceful woods views. Guests consistently rave about the open floorplan — where the freestanding soaking tub, custom upholstered queen bed, fireplace, and living space flow together in one warm, romantic setting.

The deep freestanding tub beside the bed creates a spa-like atmosphere rarely found in a walkable downtown Mentone cabin. Whether it’s a honeymoon, anniversary, or just a quiet escape, this space was designed for lingering.

A gas fireplace and 55" smart TV complete the intimate main room, while the fully equipped kitchen with gas stove and dining table make it easy to settle in.

A second flexible room includes a queen Murphy bed and fold-down desk, allowing the space to function beautifully as an office, guest room, or companion suite, with its own full bath.

Outside, enjoy the covered porch with high-top dining table, fire pit along the stone path, and an outdoor shower for a touch of adventure.

Guest access
Guests have full access to the entire cabin, private outdoor areas, and surrounding yard.

Hoot Owl Hollow spans 12 acres — six acres surrounding the cabins and an additional six wooded acres behind them. A small bridge crosses a seasonal creek, and a simple walking trail leads into the woods for those who’d like to explore.

A shared laundry room is available for guests of all three cabins and includes a washer, dryer, iron, and ironing board. The laundry room is located just past The Nest (the last cabin), on the left side of the owner’s garage. We use a PURE WASH O3 system for environmentally friendly cleaning; instructions are posted inside.

Other things to note
We share the property with our two friendly dogs, Dear Abby (flat-coated retriever) and Gumbo (black lab). They may greet guests — mostly from afar — and we’re always happy to give honeymooners extra privacy if preferred.

This cabin is 1 of 3 rental cabins on our property of 12 acres. You will feel like you are in the middle of the woods YET you are only a couple of "blocks" away from Mentone's Log Cabin Village, The Wildflower Cafe (.3 miles) , Elevation Bistro (.4 miles) & Mentone Market (.4 miles) .
On Saturday's you can walk to Mentone's Farmer Market, next to the Mentone Inn (.2 mile walk) & have lunch @ Fontastic Food Truck (slow cooking, worth the wait!)
Brow Park is a .7 mile walk.
DeSoto Falls is 3.1 miles or less than 10 minute drive.
DeSoto State Park is 8.6 miles or 15-20 minute drive.
Little River Canyon Center is 18 miles or 27 minute drive.
You may see turkey, deer, groundhogs or even a bear walking through the woods.

Hoot Owl Hollow — 3 artsy cabins on 12 magical acres in downtown Mentone, AL — is my favorite creation. I live here with my black lab, Goofy-Goofy Gumbo, and our parakeet, Puppy Bird. When the owls hoot at night, Gumbo hollers back. All three cabins are pet friendly. Hope to host you soon! A few favorite places: Kauai, Turkey, Paris, San Miguel de Allende — and right here.
