Some info has been automatically translated.
This 2500 square foot log home is nestled in the saddle between two peaks on 40 wooded acres. Overlooking the Laurel Creek Valley from the expansive porches or making memories around the fire, there is something here for everyone. The well stocked kitchen with everything a gourmet cook needs to the beautiful custom granite countertops and stainless steel appliances are perfect for preparing large meals for your family and friends. And we finally have WIFI!

The space
We have four bedrooms and two full bathrooms, 2 king rooms, one queen room and a bunk bed with a trundle. The basement has a custom mural on the wall and the ping pong table is an ideal place for both adults and kids to have some fun. We also have a corn hole set. The outdoor expansive porches, with places to relax from tables, chairs, porch swing and a giant hammock are true relaxation. We do not have wifi or cable, it's not possible yet with our location and trees. So enjoy unplugging from life here.

Guest access
We have a long steep driveway of gravel, please drive a consistent speed, no special car is necessary. In the winter we do recommend 4wd. There are woods all around the cabin to explore and play in and plenty of parking for many cars.

Other things to note
WE HAVE WIFI, starlink is now available with limited speeds.

Local Spots

Tygart River- Leave the bottom of the driveway and turn right go about 100 yards and at the T intersection turn left onto the gravel road, at the fork bear to the right and follow Laurel Creek down to the Tygart River, the road will end at the river it’s about 2.3 miles. Please be considerate when passing houses and drive slowly. There are rules about parking near the river and it’s best if you can park on Laurel Creek road just before the Arden Road. Moats Falls is downstream (turn right) about 1.5 miles.
Hike- You can enjoy hiking around the property and near the bottom of the driveway in the pine forest (so you are facing down the hill from the cabin it will be on your left. Go try to find our big Harry Potter Tree (kids call it this). It’s a cool place, if you continue past this tree to the right you can find an old coal entrance, don’t worry it’s caved in.

Wells Falls Hike- You can drive to the end of the Arden Road past Moats Falls and park at the intersection where there is a large concrete bridge. In front of you will be a creek, this is Teter Creek. When it’s warm or not so warm and the water is not too high you can cross this creek (yes you have to walk in the water, so take off your shoes, or sometimes it’s low enough to jump) and hike down the old railroad grade next to the river to the fantastic Well’s Falls, it’s not a huge waterfall but a very impressive rapid. On the way are also some neat things to see with cliffs and smaller waterfalls. It’s several miles down to the falls and you can walk on the river, plan about 2-3 hours round trip.

Arden Gardens- A new fun place to grab a snack or homemade items. Only about 15 minutes from the house on the other side of the Tygart River! A beautiful drive along the river and out the Arden Road. Hours 11-8:30, check it out in your GPS.

Lives in Cincinnati, Ohio
We bought the land for this home in 2000 after our eldest son was born and in 2005 we built the log home. West Virginia is a place we had often visited and with close friends nearby we knew we needed our own place to stay. We've enjoyed the home and all the activities that the area has to offer teaching our two boys to paddle inflatable kayaks and biking. However, now they are at the age where school activities are preventing us from spending as many weekends in WV, we have decided we'd like to share our home with others. We live in Cincinnati Ohio and our family has two boys ages 13 & 15 as well as our two dogs. We enjoy paddling, biking, hiking and caving on a regular basis. In the winter we like to snowboard at Timberline which is about 1 1/2 hours from the cabin. We also enjoy traveling around the world to all kinds of different and interesting places. This is a remote location but that's what makes it so attractive. We had close friends in this area and had been visiting them for years. Once everyone had children (they had twins!) We knew we needed our own home. So we purchased the land and worked to build our home. You will see many of the beautiful hand crafted woodworking finishing touches which were done by Fred. He has a passion for woodworking and building and you can see these in the handcrafted railings. This area is pristine and quiet and this location is ideal for outdoor activities. Kayaking is the primary activity which drew us to this area. Our property is quite unique, there are very few vacation rentals in this area. You are in your own wilderness here on top of 40 acres with privacy and seclusion unlike anywhere else. The Tygart River is a short distance and a bit of undiscovered paradise. We can even arrange private kayaking lessons or a rafting trip for your group with a professional local guide. Our outdoor fire pit is always a fine place to create some amazing memories.
