About This Listing
Cosy little apartment in "arrière maison" (away from the street, so nice and quiet) in one of Brussels best areas for bars and restaurants, close to the touristic center and to Midi station and 2 minutes from Porte de Hal metro.
These pictures were taken when my last long term tenant lived here. The pictures on the wall were hers and there's less orange now.
Furnished, renovated studio with fully equipped kitchen and shower-room. Mezzanine double bed, above the kitchen and the shower room. Sound-insulated floor and ceiling.
The studio is in my house, behind an apartment building, making it very quiet in spite of its location in the heart of Saint-Gilles. Located between the Porte de Hal (metro, bus and tram) and the Parvis de Saint-Gilles (bus, tram), a stone's throw from shops, supermarkets, excellent bars, restaurants and a daily street market.
Place du Jeu de Balle (in the Marolles area), with its daily flea market, is a 10 minute walk away, the Grand Place about 25 minutes (or just a few stops by tram) - basically everything you could need is within a few minutes and excellent public transport is less than a hundred meters away.
I provide clean sheets and clean towels. You'll have access to my broadband (VDSL) wireless internet.
Should you have any diabilities impairing your mobility, I don't recommend my studio, as the stairs to the mezzanine bed are a little steep.
Babies are welcome (even if they cry a lot at night): first because the flat is fairly well sound-insulated, but also because, as a father myself, I know what it's like (: So no worries about disturbance if she/he has difficult nights. If you could bring your own portable baby cot though, that would be best. Otherwise do let me know well in advance and I'll try to organise something.
If you need anything during your stay, I'm just next door and happy to help.
Oh yes, I have a cat - he doesn't go into your studio though - so I think it would only be a problem for you if you're really heavily allergic. I had a tenant for a year who was very allergic to cats (something we only discovered after the cat moved in) - but she was fine in the studio.

Two of Brussels's main public transport lines (the circle metro and the 'premetro' - which is basically a tram that goes underground from north to south, through the center of town) meet at Porte de Halle station, 2 minutes walk away. It coudn't be more convenient.
Enjoy your stay!
Oh and please don't let the cat in to your studio or out of the courtyard as you pass through on the way to your apartment.
And it's a non-smoking room (given that lots of people pass through and most dislike the smell of stale cigarette smoke).
Also, please try to close the front door gently as it made of metal and bangs quite hard otherwise, disturbing the neighbours.
Location: Heart of St-Gilles, just near Midi station, right next to metro and tram stations - can walk to center (though I prefer St-Gilles generally)
The studio was small but very functional. Although the bed is in the mezzanine it was comfortable and easily accessible. There is everything you need to cook simple meals. We loved the neighborhood with the big square, the church and the daily market and the fact that it is within walking distance to the city center (25min to Grand Place). Adam was responsive and friendly. Would stay there again.
Great location as it is nearby shops and public transport (metro/tram/bus)
Yet, it is Suitable for 2 people and very cozy and quiet.
Very good stay :)
We enjoyed our stay at Adams flat because it was centrally located and quiet. Thank you Adam for being such a perfect host!
Though living right below the studio, Adam is an unobtrusive neighbour. Good wifi connection.
Convenient for a short stay in Brussels : centrally located in a young and lively area (Parvis Saint-Gilles), full of bars and restaurants, near all the necessary public transports (Midi Railway Station, Porte de Hal metro station) and the most tourist places. Adam was very welcoming, always available in case of requests, and flexible. The flat looks similar to the photos : small, but sufficiently equipped for a short stay, clean, soundproofed, quiet, with a comfortable bed.
About the Host, Adam
I'm 37, a sculptor, a father - a recovering philosopher. I bought my house back when I had a job that paid cash rather than satisfaction - now renting one floor I've fitted out as a studio so as to gain some extra income.
I'm very easy-going and I'm likely to be around some of the time, though not in your way as our living spaces will be completely separate.
I'm very much open to constructive criticism - especially whilst you're here: let me know if there's anything you need and I'll do my best to get it for you (eg. extra kitchenware, cleaning products, new lightbulbs, coathangers, etc. but also what do you think the studio needs in order to be more comfortable/welcoming)
Ah oui - je parles aussi français (couramment). Y hablo un pocito de espanol tambien.
Art Nouveau decor and good standard Belgian fare.
Lots of bars, coffee places and restaurants on this square - also down the little cobbled streets just nearby (rue de la forg, rue du moskou). Wonderful to hang out on a terrace with a beer in summer.
Cool decor, cinema showing old films, nice place to have a drink or three.
Some gorgeous Art Nouveau architecture on this street, particularly between Rue Jean Volders and Chaussée de Waterloo.
Exhibitions, film showings, performances.
Bigger supermarket nearby (and a little cheaper than the Match on chaussée de Waterloo too).
This slightly random-seeming tower used to be part of the old wall surrounding the city. It's been very well restored and hosts a museum with some impressive suits of armor and weapons.
The best frites in Brussels, which basically means the best frites anywhere, in my opinion. I won't even sully these gems of Belgian cuisine by saying that "frites" means "french fries" (;
Architecturally impressive St Gilles Town Hall.
Big daily flea market (mornings) - best to go during the week for the better deals, and be prepared to bargain prices down.
Very big outdoor market with all kinds of stuff - weekends only.
Beer Heaven! They have... thousands of beers available and the waiters know their stuff. No cola served. This place takes taking beer seriously seriously.
Everything mushroom related. Truly exceptionally delicious food. Not cheap, as such, but definitely worth every penny.
contemporary art museum
Fine art exhibitions and very high level classical concerts.
A must-see for anyone visiting Brussels - really quite an impressive square. Just don't go to eat in the surrounding tourist-trap restaurants.
This bar hosts a puppet theater that is part of Brussels' heritage. The very tongue in cheek and over the top performances are done primarily in Brusseleer (flemish/french hybrid).
