This pet friendly PRIVATE APARTMENT has three beautifully appointed rooms: kitchen/living area, spacious bedroom w/queen bed, and bathroom with shower/tub combo. A separate outside entrance w/ small fenced area for privacy and pet(s), free parking, EV charging station, high-speed Internet, exterior lighting, and 24-hour access make this the perfect choice for your "staycation" or home-away-from-home. Close to Atlanta, but a world apart. Crickets and tree frogs will lull you to sleep.

The space
Surrounded by Kennesaw Mtn. Nat. Battlefield Park, the 6-acre mini-farm is a peaceful escape from the bustle of city life. Historic Marietta is 5 minutes away; Atlanta is a 25 minute drive. Your charming accommodation is a spacious, quiet, relaxing and pet friendly apartment that was created out of the west wing of my home. It is totally self-contained with a private, outside entrance that is easily accessible and lighted from the parking area. The apartment consists of three separate rooms: a kitchen/sitting room combo, a master bedroom, and a bathroom. The large master has an extremely comfortable queen-size bed, an antique dresser, a writing desk with mirror, and a seating area with reading lamp. Best of all is "bird" TV with an active bird feeder visible as you awake in the morning. The bathroom includes a tub and shower and an ample assortment of towels, washrags, toilet paper, shampoo, etc. The kitchen has everything you need to cook: electric stove and oven, microwave, sink, refrigerator, pots, pans, dishes, lined garbage can, dish drain, and other normal kitchen accessories. The other 2/3 of the kitchen features a sofa, wall-mounted television with extensive channel access, and hot drink coffee/tea bar. As your hostess, I stock your kitchenette with a wide selection of coffees (regular and decaf) for your morning pleasure. Also available upon request are fresh cream and milk, old-fashioned oatmeal and brown sugar. If the hens are laying, you may gather free-range eggs and prepare them to your own specifications. In addition to the refrigerator, sink, and oven, the kitchenette is well stocked with a toaster, pots, pans, cooking and eating utensils, plates, cups, bowls, wine glasses, etc. You may feel free to cook to your heart's content. Access to high speed, business-class internet Wi-Fi is also available at no charge; code is given on arrival. Laundry facilities in the main house can also be accessed on request.

Guest access
During your stay, you may choose to relax and read a book in the garden, swing on the screened porch, or sit and eat beside a water feature on the blue stone patio. Alternately, you may hop in your car and in five minutes be ready to explore the historic Marietta Square with its art and history museums as well as its charming gift shops and restaurants. Excepting the horse pastures, the entire property is available for your exploration and enjoyment. You are free to use my screened porch and dining table that overlook the patio and wander the orchard and vineyard. If you are staying a week or more, you may utilize my washer and dryer.

You are invited to enjoy any or all of the following activities:
• Playing tennis, basketball, or badminton on the tennis court
• Picking berries and fruits in season
• Enjoying the spectacular fireflies during summer evenings (seductively blinking for mates)
• Feeding the chickens and collecting the fresh free range eggs
• Bird watching: Guests are always delighted by the huge variety of migrating and permanent resident birds that perch regularly at the feeding stations and birdbaths
• Making photographic memories: You are welcome to photograph anywhere on the property.

In the surrounding national park, you may enjoy:
• Hiking 21 miles of interpretive trails that cross placid streams and climb mountains with gorgeous views
• Joining bird walks lead by Audubon Society volunteers during the spring and fall migration seasons.
• Understanding the causes and effects of our America Civil War: History buffs are encouraged to explore by foot or by car the local civil war trenches, battle sites, and historic markers. The National Parks service provides regular living history demonstrations with a free museum and movie shown twice each hour at the Visitor’s Center that is located around the corner from my home.

Other things to note
Using Camp Creek Parkway and I-285, the Atlanta airport is a usually a forty to forty-five minute drive. Historic Marietta is just minutes by car. During non-peak hours, downtown Atlanta is a twenty-five minute drive. The Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center, the Cobb Galleria complex with its retail, office and convention spaces, and Sun Trust Park, home of the Atlanta Braves, are a short 20-minute drive. The main campus of Kennesaw State University and its auxiliary campus in Marietta are only 15-minute drives. You also have convenient access to Stone Mountain and other beautiful State parks, the Chattahoochee National Recreational Area, and Smokey Mountains of North Georgia. Atlanta has amazing dining, theater, and recreational opportunities. In addition, the Marietta Square offers an enchanting art museum, an extensive history museum located in a hotel that was used by Yankee spies during the Civil War, numerous antique and gift shops, and the restored art-deco Strand Theater that features live productions and classic movies. For local dining you might want to try the Taicoon & Sushi Bar (Thai & Japanese), The Chicken and the Egg (a seasonal menu utilizing local produce), Taquiera Tsunami (fresh sashimi, egg rolls, unusual tacos made with super fresh ingredients), Wingz on Wheelz for awesome chicken wings, Haveli Indian cuisine (a mom & pop place straight from India with amazing curries, lamb, and goat), and the kid and family friendly Marietta Pizza on the Square. To stock your kitchen, you have easy access to the local Kroger and Publix Supermarkets and Natures Corner Market which is a health food store selling fresh produce from local farms and caters to special dietary requirements.

Seldom does one get to reside INSIDE a national park. This is the fortunate situation for us and our neighbors. Consequently, we live within an extremely safe and stable community of private homes. I have lived here since 1971 and during that time only a handful of properties have changed hands.

I was born in the American South in 1938 when girls were trained to be "ladies" and segregation was the norm. Today I find it impossible to limit or prejudge people due to their skin color, their religion or lack thereof, their politics, marital status, age, sex, or sexual orientations. Life has changed me greatly and I like the person I have become. I was married for almost fifty years to my late husband, a brilliant chemist and collector of antiques. We were a good match. I am now a 80 plus-year old widow who continues to enjoy life to the fullest with an open heart and open doors. As a former host mother for international students, I have "sons and daughters" in Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Nigeria, the Ivory Coast, Australia, Mexico, Brazil, Columbia, and Venezuela. The world is my family! My hobbies are baking homemade breads, entertaining, gardening, and reading. I thoroughly enjoy welcoming new friends into my life through Airbnb. My beliefs formed through hosting are as follows: •Trust becomes easier the more it is practiced. •Enduring friendships come in unexpected places. •Laughter is universal.

During your stay
I enjoy making myself available for guests and can be sought out at their convenience. I can usually be found driving the tractor, weeding, baking, reading, or playing mind games on the Internet. (I'm addicted to Scrabble, Words with Friends, and various forms of Solitaire.) I have lived on this property and in my home since 1971 and hope to die in my boots here at a healthy 100 years. You will usually find either me on the property. At any rate, I am always only a cell phone call away to answer any questions you might have.
