Our historic, art-filled home is close to the UW hospital and campus, but is located in a quiet and pretty neighborhood. Madison is known for its open-mindedness, amazing farm-to-table restaurant scene, walk- and bike-ability, and lots of performing arts for the small size of the city. We're Superhosts in our tenth year and we'd love to comfortably accommodate you. Please take the time to read our entire listing if you'll be staying with us to learn details about the house.
The space
When you move in, we move out and we can't wait to welcome you to our place. Our home is pretty, cozy, bright and clean. We're on the desirable near-west side in quiet College Park, at the foot of historic University Heights, right on the bus line to downtown (about 7 mins.). Built in 1936, we have three bedrooms (and a sofa bed) and two bathrooms (one's in the basement behind Japanese-style screens). In all, we can accommodate six (seven in a pinch). Our house is beautifully decorated with art and antiques and maintained with lots of attention to detail.
The three bedrooms consist of one California king bed; one extra-long twin in the office; and one full bed in the small third bedroom (all with down comforters in the winter). The best thing about the king bed? It has a dual control heated mattress pad in the winter! A queen-sized sofa sleeper (with a new mattress) in the living room can sleep two.
In the house, you'll find a great wi-fi connection; a flat-screen TV in the master bedroom (plus Roku in the bedroom--no cable) and kitchen; iron/ironing board and hair dryer. There is a stereo with a port for your phone in the living room (but, again no TV there). Note, we don't have a microwave, but do have a toaster oven.
Kids, we have toys and books for you! We live one block away from Stevens Park, a recently rebuilt neighborhood playground with basketball hoops. We also have a Pack-n-Play, so if you'd like to use it, please let us know.
Madison is an inclusive and environmentally sensitive city. We welcome all guests and we like to recycle, compost, and use only use dye- and synthetic-free fragrances.
We're a busy family of three who love art, music, travel, and locally sourced food and would be glad to help you find what you're looking for while staying in Madison.
You may reserve our house for weekends and sometimes longer stays. Send us a request to book! No parties allowed but if you would like to have a very small and special gathering, please inform us ahead of time. If you're new to Airbnb, be sure to fill in your profile and also tell us a bit about your trip to the Capital of Wisconsin. Enjoy the entire house (gold star for those who do it in socks or slippers). The screened-in porch and patio are great for warm summer evening meals. The kitchen has everything within reach--if you need a dash of olive oil or salt, you are welcome to our supply. Your organic breakfast will include fresh fruit, granola, and French-press coffee or tea. If you'd like to use the one-car garage, feel free, and laundry and second bathroom (behind a screen) is in the basement. Since this is our primary residence when you're not here, please use the empty drawers or luggage and clothes hooks provided outside of our closets (mirrors inside closet doors). We've got two bikes for you to use while you're here and we live right on a bike boulevard with access to lots of bike paths around the city. PLEASE do not park in our very short driveway, you will block the sidewalk and our neighbors WILL be very annoyed and will let us know. Please respect our home as you would yours...wipe counter tops in kitchen, wipe spills, broom is in the kitchen closet if needed.
Other things to note
Please remove your shoes inside the house. The Sunday NY Times is delivered, so feel free to enjoy it. Some essentials: again, there's no microwave or cable TV. We have a French press coffee maker, not an automatic drip (but we provide terrific coffee beans!). Garbage/recycling collection is early Thursday mornings (starting at about 7 AM), so you might hear some rumbling on the street. Again, NO parking in our driveway, it is short, you'll block the sidewalk, and our neighbors get frustrated and let us know about it. Make sure to wipe down kitchen counters before leaving, wipe up spills, and feel free to use the broom if necessary. Kindly take your sheets and pillowcases off the beds and take them to the basement before you check out (not mattress pads or pillow protectors--unless soiled, and blankets can stay upstairs). We appreciate it!

From the host
Our neighborhood is tree-lined and excellent for strolling. Or borrow two of ours or rent bikes and head out on our bike boulevard (Kendall Ave.) or the many bike paths in town. It's quiet but near the UW hospital and campus. Madison is also a great place for foodies! Visit one of three near-by farmer's markets on a Saturday morning for amazing cinnamon rolls, fresh goat cheeses and hickory nuts. If you like to run or walk, go to picnic point on Lake Mendota or through the beautiful UW Arboretum's gardens or wooded trails. Frank Lloyd Wright's Unitarian Meeting House is within walking distance for architectural history buffs. Of course, you can always catch some kind of Badger game, too!
