About This Listing
What makes this place unique is the outdoor scenery and the open view in all directions. The house is standing alone on a prairie, with a clear view to Eyjafjöll mountains and glacier and Vestmannaeyjar islands. The house is designed to capture this, with big windows, transparency, minimalistic architecture and a lot of daylight.
This vacation house is built for all year around use. It is centrally placed on the south coast of Iceland. It is close to all the big attractions on the south coast, and less than 2 hours drive (110 km) from Reykjavik.
The house is 115 square meters and has 2 floors. On the second floor there are 3 bedrooms. Two of the rooms have king size beds (180 cm), one of them can be made to twin beds if necessary. One room has 120 cm bed. On the first floor it is a bedroom with one queen size bed (160 cm) and a special view to Eyjafjöll and Eyjafjallajökull the glacier. There is also a cot available.
The kitchen is well equipped. It has a dishwasher, induction stove, oven, microwave oven, fridge, freezer, toaster, water boiler and a coffeemaker.
The living room has a flat screen TV and DVD-player. Both have USB ports. There is a Tivoli-radio in the house and a Libratone Loop speaker. If you have a cable, you can plug your mp3-player or your cellphone to it.
Free 3G internet is available. The connection can sometimes be unstable.
The bathroom has a washing machine and a big shower with a view of Eyjafjallajökull.
The house is warm and comfortable. On the first floor all rooms have floor heating. On the second floor, there are panel radiators in every room.
Towels and linen are included. Accommodates up to 7 people plus a cot.
The house has all required licenses from the authorities.
The whole house is available for the guests. The storage room on the second floor is closed for the guests. It mainly stores the hosts personal things. On the side of the house is a small garage that is closed.
During spring, summer and autumn the surroundings have a rich bird life. Many species nest in the area. The neighbor's Iceland horses are close by. The area is flat with grass and sand further south toward the see. There are no trees. During the day it can be windy, but in the after noon specially during summer around six, it often gets quiet. There is usually a lot of changing weather. Not everybody likes a lot of weather but one can stay comfortably inside and observe it trough the big windows.
The best way to get to the house is by a car. During wintertime November-Mars, the weather can be bad in Iceland with snow and slippery roads. On the south cost the weather shifts fast and the snow never stays very long. But if you want to be on the safe side, a 4 wheel drive car is recommended. The Road authorities clear Road one for snow daily but secondary roads in the area are often not cleared for snow more than once or twice a week.
Other Things to Note
There is a good country restaurant in the neighborhood, Hotel Anna.

Staying at this house was one of the highlights of our trip to Iceland. Svanur's cottage is gorgeous and in a wonderful location. There is a lot of bird life in the area and we really enjoyed sitting and watching the birds outside. The home is beautiful - just absolutely beautiful. It was such a treat to wake up and look out the window to see the horses next door, the coast, the waterfall off in the distance...
Svanur was a pleasure to communicate with prior to our arrival and I would HIGHLY recommend staying at his home. Thanks Svanur!!!
Svanur is a very helpful host and his home is stunning- spacious, modern and comfortable! The location is great too. My friends and I had a wonderful time here, would definitely recommend.
It was absolutely an amazing experience to be in Iceland and stay at this gorgeous modern house in the middle of nature and lands.
Svanur was really helpful and friendly. Thank you for a great stay.
It was hard to believe that Svanur's property could be as spectacular as it looks in the photos...but it really is! We were a party of four and had so much room to stretch out and enjoy this beautiful place. The house really isn't too far away from the main highway - about 5mins drive along a good gravel road - and yet it feels like you are miles away from anyone when you're out there. The house had very comfortable beds and lovely fresh bedding and towels. There were also lots of supplies available for guests to use, from cooking oils and spices to hand wash and washing powder etc.
The location is fantastic if you want to see the south coast - beautiful waterfalls, black sand beaches and secluded swimming pools on the mountainside are all within easy reach. We did a quick supermarket shop in Vik - perhaps around 40mins away, but I can't say for sure as we stopped to take photos every few hundred metres! However, if you are driving from the airport there are plenty of supermarkets off the main road if you want to do a really big shop.
The house has huge windows that allow guests to take in the awesome views that extend in every direction. We watched the sun setting from the kitchen window and walked around the grass outside trying to take it all in. If you're looking for somewhere to stay on the South coast, look no further than this.
Thank you, Svanur.
Svanur's house was everything we wanted and more. We stayed almost 2 weeks and didn't want to leave. This was the best airbnb experience I've had. Svanur's house is better than pictured and his communication was quick and friendly and very helpful. The house is easy to get to and is full of everything you'd need. We cooked many meals and the kitchen is very well stocked. Svanur really thought of everything in this house down to the smallest details. The location of the house is beautiful and perfect for exploring all over the south coast. I highly recommend taking a walk behind the house towards the beach and islands, especially at sunset. The huge black beach and sand dunes are like something out of a scifi movie. The stark flatness of the land with the ever changing sections of tiny shallow streams and grassy dunes is amazingly beautiful. It was one of our top experiences in Iceland and it was in our own backyard! I can't recommend this house enough and I hope it will be available for years to come as we want to return in the future.
Had a fantastic time staying at Svanur's home. The space and location are exceptional and there is a wonderful ambience to the house. From the moment we stepped inside we felt relaxed and totally secluded. Would highly recommend. Without sounding cliched, we wished we had booked for longer.
This was our second stay at this amazing house. Contact with Svanur is excellent - he emails and texts detailed directions and details of where to shop, etc. The house is stunning, situated in a beautiful location with breath taking views - very easy to find. It is very well appointed, the kitchen has everything that you would require; the bedrooms are very comfortable, all have excellent views; also a great view from the shower. The house is ideally placed to see all the main sights in South Iceland - The Golden Circle (day trip to the west) and Jökulsárlón - glacial river lagoon (day trip to the east); as well as all the local water falls, etc. I would definitely recommend the beach near Vik and Seljavallalaug, an outdoor pool near by - we swam in this while watching a snow storm come over the mountains. We were lucky enough to see an absolutely stunning Northern Lights show right above the house. I highly recommend the host, the house and Iceland. We hope we can visit again.
About the Host, Svanur
I live in Grimstad, Norway but grew up outside of Reykjavik Iceland, in a small town called Alftanes. I have been living in Norway the past 20 years. I am married and we have a four year old boy and and a one year old girl.
I am a landscape architect and work for Multiconsult in Kristiansand.
I have a kayak which I use in the summertime. In wintertime I go snowboarding or cross-countryskiing. I have traveled quite a lot trough the years. One of the best places were Australia and India. The past years I have mostly traveled in Iceland, which is my favorite place. There are many things I like about it: the open panorama landscape, the bright summer nights, the northern lights in the wintertime, the changing weather, and of course the people. Hospitality is one of the things that I regard highly. I really hope that our guests enjoy their stay and I will do what I can to make it so.
