Where you’ll be

Santolaya, Principado de Asturias, Spain

A "bohío" is a word that in some countries in South America a small house that is usually built from wood. When Indians (immigrants from the north of the Iberian peninsula who went to work in America) returned to Asturias, they brought this word as a 'cabin'.

Our house is a typical 19th century Asturian construction, around 1860, and is an architectural heritage site of the municipality of Cabranes. Santolaya, with a population of about 300 inhabitants, is the capital of the municipality and is located in the so called Comarca de la Cidra.

It is the same heart as Asturias, ideal for getting closer to any part:

It's 10 minutes from Villaviciosa (and one of our favorite beaches, El Puntal), and another 10 minutes from Infiesto.

Half an hour from Gijón, the province's most important coastal town and, next to Avilés, a must-see cultural landmark.

It is also half an hour from the areas of Colunga and Lastres, especially known for its spectacular beach and cliff landscapes and for being part of the Asturian Jurassic Coast, a geological curiosity known worldwide, where you will find one of the largest icnitas sites in Europe, that of La Griega beach.

40 minutes from Oviedo, capital of the province, and also 40 minutes from Cangas de Onís and Ribadesella, the jewels of the Asturian east and references of adventure tourism.

And Cabranes, in itself, is incredible: on the side of the Bohío starts the Viacaba river path, and the Peña Cabrera area and the River Deep River Windmill Route are in the area, which is beautiful and can be done with little ones.

In addition, in the municipality you will find Asturias ConVivencias, which organizes microexperiences as cool as going to participate in cow milking, making wicker baskets or picking blueberry, among many others.
