About this listing
Stunning large 'cottage style' house - nestled in a secluded wooded area, down a little country "boreen", under the Seefin mountain. It is surrounded by river, lakes and sea, and situated a mile from Glenbeigh village on the majestic Ring of Kerry.
This 4 bedroom house is brand new, and finished to the highest standards. Tastefully furnished, with solid oak floors and doors, equipped with all high quality appliances (from kitchen to surround sound audio-visual equipment) as well as wireless internet. The house boasts a traditional sauna, jacuzzi bath and rain-forest showers. It has underfloor heating throughout, via an eco-friendly geo-thermal system. There are large outdoor patio areas, perfect for barbecues and enjoying the fresh unrivalled country air. The property is surrounded by trees and has a wonderful rustic hideaway feel to it.
The location is idyllic; with beautiful beaches, Caragh Lake and River, the excellent Dooks Golf Links and some of the finest hillwalking terrain in Ireland on your doorstep. Perfect rustic holiday base, especially for those interested in golfing, fishing, hillwalking, watersports, horse-riding or just touring this most beautiful part of Ireland. The house and surrounding area will also be particularly appealing to artists/writers/musicians looking to be inspired in a beautiful natural environment.
The small charming village of Glenbeigh is just down the road and has a supermarket and a small selection of local shops, traditional pubs and restuarants. There are a couple of excellent gourmet restaurants in Cromane and Caragh Lake ( 3 miles away). Killorglin (6 miles) is a medium sized Irish town with a lively social scene and a wide array of pubs and restaurants to choose from. The town also boasts a good live music scene. Killarney (16 miles) is arguably the tourist capital of Ireland, with all associated attractions and amenities, including its famous national park. The area is well served by local taxis, should one wish to have a night on the town and leave the car at home. Further afield places of note include Dingle town and peninsula, Kenmare, Waterville and the awe-inspiring Skellig islands (25-40 miles).
Apart from the great natural beauty of the area, this is a very historic and mythical part of Ireland, which features prominently in the great Irish folklore tales. Indeed there is even an ancient 'holy well' up the road from the house with alleged curative powers. If you are looking to venture into the mystic, mythic beauty of rural Ireland, this will undoubtedly be the place for you.
1. No smoking indoors
2. Make yourselves at home - relax and enjoy!
Peter's assessment of his house was spot on..."Luxury Accommodations...". There were nine of us comfortably sleeping in his nicely appointed house. Peter's father Owen met us at the house, gave us the full tour, set up a golf game with one of our party and made sue we had everything we needed. The location allowed us many day trips to some of the most spectacular sights of Ireland, not to mention many great pubs!
We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay for a week. Hiking from the house was spectacular. We would love to go back and spend a month or more!
We had a fabulous 4 day stay here. The house has exactly what it says on the tin - excellent location and facilities. Peter was away but his father Owen was lovely, both entertaining and really helpful.
Valentia Island is worth a trip and we spent a special day in Killarney where we hired bikes from O'Sullivans on Beech Road and then rode them a few kms to Ross Castle where we had hired a boat from Dermot's - this took us and our bikes, with the excellent company and commentary of Brian, the length of the beautiful lakes - idyllic setting - all the way to Brandon's cottage where we then cycled up to and through the Gorgeous Gap of Dunloe and then back to Killarney - a truly fabulous day.
We will definitely aim to come back at some stage
Peter was an amazing host. Warm, friendly, and very patient (as we were hours later than we had told him.) The house blew us away. We fell in love with it immediately. Close to beaches, hikes, or just sitting by the record player overlooking the sheep on the mountain. Our boys loved running around and exploring outside. We didn't want to leave.
We arrived to a very warm and sympathetic welcome from Peter after finding the house easily with his very well written instructions.
I live in the North of Ireland and wanted a nice place in Kerry to spend a long weekend with a group of friends. As my friends were all coming from Germany I wanted to impress them with a great trip and when I found Peters House I knew: this is it!
This house has everything - it is really well planned, when you switch on the Music in the kitchen it plays as well in the bathroom.
The kitchen is lovely and spacious, we cooked every evening for 8 people and it became the main social area.
The bathrooms are a treat with gorgeous big showers that don't just look really stylish but work really well too. We all felt really relaxed after good nights sleep on the comfortable mattresses.
The weather during our trip was very changeable and unfortunately not very warm, which meant the sauna came in handy and was a great way to get fully reheated again after our walks and adventures in the absolutely stunning surroundings.
I really hope I could have a house like this some day, thank you so much Peter!
Peter, your house was absolutely gorgeous -- a great many thanks to you and your father Owen for your hospitality. The excellent photos that are posted on AirBnb's website are what initially attracted us to the cottage, but these do not do justice to how spacious and beautifully decorated it is. The house is ideally situated -- just a few minutes walk from Caragh lake and a short drive from Rossbeigh strand. It is also within close proximity to some of Ireland's most renowned natural wonders such as the Gap of Dunloe, Killarney National Park , and the McGillicuddy Reeks. We hope to come back in the future!!!
I could not recommend Peter's house enough to Sightseers, Holiday makers, families and especially musicians. We needed a place to write our new album in and Peter's place was perfect, surrounded by gorgeous landscapes, the friendliest people you could meet in neighbouring towns and villages and the most amazing beaches and views this country has. Peter gave us free reign to turn his house into a home studio where we set up drums, amps and P.A systems, we worked late at night and never had one bit of hassle. The house was so comfortable and spacious and equipped with everything you could need, The house and has an amazing creative vibe. Most importantly Peter as a host could not have done any more for us, ringing to see if we needed guitar strings or if we needed someone to record or shoot the session. We will never forget our week in Glenbeigh. Big love, Gar- The Riptide Movement.
About the Host, Peter
Originally from the best of the west coast (it's not called "the Kingdom" for nothing!), and currently working in university in Dublin. Things I love include music (being a musician myself), active outdoors sports (especially in water), the changing of the seasons, architecture/design, good books, great films, funky art, fine coffee, stimulating conversation, meeting new people....and of course travelling to interesting new places (which Airbnb makes so easy and appealing). I have traveled far and wide throughout this great world of ours, and now take great pleasure in welcoming people to my own little patch of it.
I finished building my Kerry cottage home in 2012. It was a genuine labour of love; fulfilling a long held ambition to have my own beautiful place in the beautiful area I grew up in. Now I enjoy sharing it whenever possible with fellow travelers looking for an idyllic base in the heart of majestic, mystical Kerry.
