Bungalow Jepun is a jewel set in the center of a quiet lush garden filled with the sounds of falling water, exotic birds and the bark of geckos.
A short walk along a narrow path about 200 meters from the main road takes you away from the sounds of cars and motorbikes and into the our compound .
Villa Semua Suka, which means "everybody likes' and Bungalow Jepun are contained within the same walled compound and lush gardens .
The Bungalow has one queen-size bedroom, and one large bathroom with both an indoor shower and an outdoor shower and bathtub.
The outdoor veranda, swimming pool, gazebo and garden are all part of your living area.
It was completed two years ago to Western standards with a Balinese aesthetic, and was built on the lower level of a former rice field. Interaction with Guests
We are often at home in Bali, and when we are....interact extensively with our guests who often become like members of our family.
Milo our pug is here when we are to entertain our guests as well.
The neighborhood is very convenient to everything in Ubud and is a microcosm of the best that Bali has to offer. A walk out to the rice fields will enable you to experience the daily life of the farmers in this agricultural community. Watch the ducks as they clean the rice fields and get them ready for a new crop; see locals washing their laundry in the streams; visit with local artisans in their homes and really get a sense of what Bali is all about!
There are cars and drivers that can be rented along the main road for trips into Ubud.
We also have a driver that can take you touring anywhere in Bali.
Some of our guests have opted to rent motor bikes or push bikes and that's something that we're able to arrange on their behalf.
We ask that you arrive before 4:00 pm as that is when Made' leaves for the day. If this is impossible we will need to make special arrangements.
The guest house was a relaxing oasis and a jumping off location to explore Ubud. My husband and I stayed for 3 nights and were warmly greeted by Barbara and Henry (and milo!) with wonderful recommendations and a helpful local cell phone. Their driver, Blue, picked us up from the airport and took us on a wonderful day tour to some of Bali that was further afield.
The pictures represent it perfectly, and the Penestanan neighborhood was fun to explore. Breakfasts were amazing -- we missed one day because we had to leave early and were sad we didn't get to try more of the options. The fresh fruit was great and you have to try the black rice pudding! Overall a wonderful place to stay!
Wow, we had a very magical experience staying here. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting both Barbara and Henry. Milo their dog is a delight. We also had the pleasure of meeting Blue who took out out for a full day tour and another venture. Blue is a very professional guide and fun to spend time with. We're in Sunur now missing Ubud and the best breakfasts!!! We had home made breads and jams, vegetable omelets, that are out of this world and gorgeous fruit salads daily. The staff are so polite and friendly. The tropical garden and pool are picturesque. Don't hesitate to stay here. Thanks again Barbara and Henry.
Best Wishes Marlene and Craig
Barbara and Henry were very welcoming, even upon our late arrival. They sent their driver Blue to come get us from the airport and everything went very smoothly. We even hired Blue a couple days during our stay to take us around to visit a number of different cultural sites that we couldn't reach by foot.
The property was absolutely beautiful! Looks just like the pictures that are posted, and everything was kept very clean and tidy. It was a little oasis tucked away from the busy streets of Ubud. The walk to the place, however, was much more difficult than expected. If we didn't have Blue with us the first night, there is no way we would have found the place in the dark. But we got used to it very quickly and were soon zipping our way through the maze of houses quite easily. Luckily, we only had small luggage that we could carry, because rolling any large luggage on the narrow paths would be a struggle.
Everyone else on here was raving about the breakfast, and I can strongly agree! The breakfast was so delicious and we looked forward to it every morning. Unfortunately, Made Pia was away on maternity leave, so we didn't get to try the delicious bread of hers that everyone else has commented on, but the other Mades did a superb job with the cooking and cleaning!
Overall, we felt so comfortable, safe, and relaxed at the Bungalow. It was the perfect start to our honeymoon. Barbara and Henry are lovely hosts - always available to answer any questions, give directions, or lend guidebooks. The city center is just a 15-20 minute walk, with plenty of restaurants and spas close by. We will definitely recommend their place to friends in the future!
Barbara and Henry are one of the best hosts ever. They are very welcoming and we felt at home. We had great dinner together that Henry served and had some chit chat with Barbara and Henry. Not to forget, Milo the pug also welcomed us very well in the house. It was very lovely ecperience
Barbara and Henry were excellent hosts! They gave us a lot of tips and chatting with them was always enjoyable. The bungalow was exactly how it was on the photos, and everything was so clean and well-maintained. The outdoor area is the perfect space to lounge around and to have breakfast. Speaking of breakfast... Made always prepared us yummy and filling breakfasts - homemade jams and breads, fresh fruits, and your choice of pancakes, french toasts, eggs, or noodles.
They also sent Blue to pick us up from the airport, and we ended up hiring him for some sightseeing trips around Ubud. He was funny, very informative and his English was perfect!
Thank you Barbara and Henry for a wonderful stay at your bungalow!
Wishing I were still in Bali, frolicking in the pool. Equally good for sitting around and doing nothing, or close enough to stuff that is either walkable, or there is a cab stand at the nearby Bintang market. Having the Bintang market close at hand is very convenient. The breakfast prepared by Made was fantastic, with great breads and homemade jams, and a number of food options to suit most anyone. She was also extremely helpful when we were improvising our plans for activities to do, and our next destination after Ubud. The only downside was that the AC unit wasn't really cooling the unit, which was fine for me, not so much for my GF. Again, Made was super helpful and set us up in another bedroom in the main house that was vacant.
Great stay, cute place. Pia was incredibly helpful - delicious breakfasts, she organized our day trips, and made great suggestions. Location very close to the centre. Would return again! :)

My husband and I have had a love affair with Bali for many years, buying our Villa Sunrise on the beach in 2004, opening an Indonesian furniture and art gallery in Santa Fe New Mexico, organizing yoga and meditation retreats, and now having built our Villa in the ricefields of Ubud.
Villa Semua Suka and Bungalow Jepun were built in 2011 to western standards with a Balinese esthetic.
We have decorated the villa with high quality Balinese art, furniture and artifacts. Villa Sunrise, Villa Semua Suka and Bungalow Jepun are our 'homes' not 'hotels'........welcome Home!
