Our home is peaceful and clean. You will enjoy your vacation here. Please come and visit our lovely 3 bedroom home. It is well appointed with everything you want for a comfortable stay. All you need are your personal items. We have everything else.

The Space

Hale Maluhia is a very comfortable, newly built 3 bedroom/2 bath home. 2 of the bedrooms have queen size beds and one of the bedrooms has 2 twin beds. Both of the bathrooms have granite countertops and bathtubs. The kitchen is modern with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need to make a gourmet meal. We also own the house next door. If you need more space or have a large family let us know, we can accommodate your group? The house on the next door property is a 2 bedroom/2 bath house that is also a vacation rental. Hale Maluhia is great. Located on Hawaii island, in Pahoa. We enjoy escaping, "The Big City," to relax here. Our house has high speed internet, satellite TV, and a full kitchen with all the amenities to make your stay comfortable. This home is family friendly. It is very comfortable for just 2, but offers plenty of room for a group of 6. There is a screened in lanai on the back of the house great for relaxing and reading a great book outside while enjoying the tropical fauna. Our house is located on a quiet street but only 5 minutes from pahoa town where there is great dining and shopping. It is quiet enough to feel like you are in the country but close enough to town that you don't feel out of touch. 15 minutes from the beach, 20 minutes to view the lava, and 25 minutes from the airport. There is also a car available for rent with this house. It can be at the airport waiting for you when you arrive. We are close to the lava viewing and amazing snorkeling. If you enjoy the out doors this area of Hawaii is great for you. There are amazing hikes and beaches waiting for you to explore. While you are enjoying our home we hope you are as happy here and comfortable as we are. We love this area and you hope you enjoy the big island as much as we do. Public transportation is not great on the big isle and we reccomend you have a car to be able to enjoy all Hawaii Island has to offer.

  • We enjoyed our brief stay at Faith's place. The house is beautiful, clean, well equipped, very spacious, and is surrounded on three sides by rain forest. There is a fully screened area at the back of the house. Note that the location is about 35 minutes from Hilo but a great location to access the coast from.

  • The house was wonderful! It was exactly as described and perfect for our party of five. The front bedroom was just right for my mother, the second bedroom with twin beds worked great for my 22 year old son and 13 year old daughter and the master bedroom was exactly what my husband and I needed! The house served as a great home base. Our first night we had a delicious dinner in Pahoa at Kaleo's, just minutes from the house. We were able to easily drive to Volcano National Park where we hiked to the lava lake! Afterward we drove chain of craters road and had wonderful time wine-tasting at Volcano Winery and ended the day with a great dinner at Thai Thai in Volcano. We also made trips to the beach, Hilo and Akaka Falls! Breakfast on the lanai was a treat and when it rained I was able to discuss with my daughter how the rain water collection worked providing a hands on science lesson. While we were there we were very happy to meet Faith, she is a wonderful host and was happy to answer any questions and provide suggestions.

    Response from Faith:

Thanks Eleanor, it was a pleasure to meet your family. I will definitely look for a bench. That's a great idea. I've been telling Noeland for some time we need something on the front porch but Was thinking some chairs- I think the bench is a much better idea. It's nice to hear what others have to say because it's always a great different perspective. Thanks again, best wishes to your son and his career, I'm sure he will be very happy in whatever path you chooses.

  • We loved Faith's house as soon as we set foot in it. It felt very homey, almost everything we needed / wanted (a teapot would have been awesome ... ;-)) was there, the kitchen was really well equipped, the house wasn't cluttered with stuff and had a really nice vibe to it. Faith herself was very responsive by email and the people who take care of the house in her abscence were really awesome and very quick to come and help us out when we had a little problem.

The only thing that I didn't like about the house was the very bad queen mattress in the guest bedroom. Not sure what it was about that mattress, cause I usually prefer hard mattresses, but the back of my head started hurting just lying on it and I had the worst night of sleep ever. We switched to the twin beds in the guest bedroom after that and put our kid is his cot in that room.

The house is perfectly located to explore the tidepools and heated natural pools on this side of the island. And don't forget to go to the Wednesday evening market in Kalapana (with some luck you might see the lava in the distance, or you could take a guided tour to actually go to the lava).

About driving times, it usually took us about 10 minutes to get to Pahoa and about 40 to get to Hilo (airport).

  • Great place. We loved the quiet in the evening. Just birds and frogs to serenade us. This is a clean well-kept accommodation. It suited us perfectly. We explored Volcano Park and the whole south eastern corner of the island from here.

  • Faith is an amazing host! She were not around during our stay but I kept asking her all sorts of questions (regarding the house or simply about attractions nearby). She was so thoughtful and patient in answering my questions, texting me the directions of places I planned to go. Definitely will come back next time when visiting this side of the big island!

  • Faith was very responsive & helpful during the booking process, check-in, check-out and our stay itself; even though she was on O'ahu she answered queries via SMS & phone calls.

The property is just as described and was a clean, comfortable base for our few days on the Hilo side of Hawai'i: in addition to the obvious sights, don't miss the Red Road; and the Hilo Farmers' Market was great value.

During our stay (December) it rained a lot in the evenings, so be prepared for this & a few mosquitoes in the area.
