Where you’ll be

Quito, Pichincha, Ecuador

Centrally located, the neighbourhood of La Floresta is both traditional (with many colonial houses built in the 1950s) as well as bohemian. Filmmakers, actors, painters, writers and musicians share this tranquil, safe and vibrant neighbourhood with many other professionals. Foreigners and university students abound due to the five universities in the area.

Gastronomy is one of this sector’s specialities; one of its greatest appeals is its proximity to a multitude of top-end restaurants, including Japanese, Italian, Spanish, Mexican, Peruvian, Vegetarian and fusion. If dining in is more to your taste (no pun intended!) there is also a supermarket as well as a fantastic Friday fruit and veggie market (including organic fruit and veggies as well as home-made yoghurt, marmalades, jams and chutneys); both are within 100 metres of the apartment. Not to be missed are the excellent cafes. As avid and ‘serious’ coffee drinkers, we can highly recommend cafes Jaru (next door to the apartment on Galicia St), Intag (below the apartment building) and Jervis. They all offer a drop as good as we’d get in Melbourne, Australia (where we often reside) and which is internationally acclaimed for its coffee.

If vegan or vegetarian food is your thing, you are most definitely in the right area. La Floresta has more veggo/ vegan options than anywhere else in Quito. Two of our favourites are Vegano der Altura and Sisunga. If you are a chocolate lover (who isn't) look up the official Pacari Chocolate Shop, also in the 'hood, and smother yourself in the multitude of flavours available!

It’s surely not all about food and coffee though, is it? La Floresta also abounds in many places of cultural interest; art galleries, handicraft stores, independent cinemas, theatres and bookstores. The zone is also a place for sports and entertainment. The Ruminahui Coliseum is located here, which doubles up as a sports and training centre as well as an entertainment venue, hosting some of the largest concerts in Quito. If you find day spas, facials and yoga appealing, you will not be disappointed either.

A hairdresser, dentist and bakery are located downstairs from the apartment, which lies across the road from the 5-star Swissotel and the Radisson. The Old Town (historical centre) is a 15-minute ride away and Plaza Foch (known for its nightlife) a 10 minute walk away. It is also close to the business/financial district. Declared a UNESCO world heritage site, the Old Town has the best-preserved, least altered historic centre in Latin America. Guapulo is also only a 5-minute ride away.

La Floresta has it all! And ... you can walk everywhere.

We are Ombi and Alex, an Australian/ Ecuadorian couple who have, between us, visited almost 95 countries and speak three languages; English, Italian and Spanish. Travellers at heart, we feel that we know what other travellers need, want and expect. Self-confessed clean freaks, we want you to feel relaxed and comfortable in a clean environment and with many of the ‘extras’ that you'd have in your own home. Lovers of life, people and culture we are not always in the same place for a long time … and are often travelling ourselves! We do, however, have very strong ties to Quito, which we come back to and visit often. If there is a period of time where we have no reviews it will be because we are living in Quito and enjoying our beautiful apartment! Whilst you can most certainly contact us at any time, we have left this gorgeous third-floor apartment with sweeping views of the Andes, in the very capable hands of Lis and Dan, another Australian/ Ecuadorian couple who live in Quito. They are both fluent in Spanish and English and will ensure that you have a great stay. La Floresta is a delightful área. It is safe, clean, central and has a multitude of top-end restaurants and funky cafes (with excellent coffee!). The área is known for both its bohemian vibe as well as elegant edge. Home to painters, poets, writers and a multitude of other professionals, the feel of the área will leave you enchanted. We truly hope that you enjoy this inviting, warm and charming space!
