Unbeatable location

Ride, run, and relax! Tucked two miles inside Pisgah National Forest halfway between Old Fort and Black Mountain, you'll love the location for mountain biking, trail running and getting away to enjoy the forest. Ideal space for 2-4 guests (6 max) and separate from the Inn on Mill Creek B&B. Your hosts live in the other home across the garden. You'll have the guest house all to yourself with enjoyment of 7+ acres of outdoor space surrounded by Pisgah.

The space
Outdoor Magazine named Old Fort, North Carolina, one of the world’s most exciting places to visit in 2024, including a shoutout to Bernard Mountain Trail next to our property! Our little trail town is buzzing with adventure. Come see why everyone’s falling in love with our Pisgah National Forest neighborhood.

🌿 YOUR NATURE HIDEAWAY
If you’re a nature lover, hiker, mountain biker, or just someone who wants to trade city noise for birdsong, the Mill Creek Guest House (also known as the Deck House at the Inn on Mill Creek) is your perfect escape. Two spacious bedrooms (each with its own private bath and Jacuzzi tub!) and a cozy living space make this spot ideal for couples, friends, or small families. Each bedroom and the living space have sliding glass doors onto a deck with lots of outdoor seating. Bonus: there’s a fully equipped kitchen for whipping up trail snacks or a hearty dinner after a day outdoors. Please note that while the house can fit up to six people, it's not really suitable for three couples.

🚵🏽‍♀️ TRAIL ACCESS GALORE
Hop on your bike or lace up your boots—Bernard Mountain, Kitsuma, Star Gap, and Heartbreak trails are right outside your door, not to mention Rostan and the Old Fort Gateway Trails nearby. You'll be close to the start and finish lines of ORAMM, Jerdon Mountain Challenge, the Old Fort 50, the Hellbender 100, Ridge to Rails, the Mount Mitchell Heartbreaker, and more. Mill Creek Guest House is ideally suited for racers and their families or small crews. Plus, you’re just a short drive from Catawba Falls, Montreat’s trail system, and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

🍴FUEL UP LOCALLY
If you're reserving the Inn on Mill Creek B&B's guest house on this platform, breakfast is NOT included. We've got great recs for local breakfast spots, however. Support Old Fort and Black Mountain’s restaurants and breweries—they’re part of what makes this community so special.

💻 STAY CONNECTED... OR DON'T!
Even though you’re tucked inside a national forest, you’ll have Wi-Fi via Starlink and Roku TVs for streaming. Or unplug completely and let the forest be your entertainment.

🦋 NWF AND NC CERTIFIED WILDLIFE HABITAT
Step outside onto the deck overlooking a small creek/pond and surrounded by Pisgah’s towering trees. Wander through our 7.5-acre Certified Wildlife Habitat with native gardens, sculptures, a walking labyrinth, and a boardwalk through wetlands.

🐦 OFFICIAL NC BIRDING TRAIL SITE
Birding enthusiasts, bring your binoculars - you'll be staying at one of a handful of private properties designated as a site on the North Carolina Birding Trail and a Hot Spot on eBird (as Inn on Mill Creek). Don't forget to do your birding checklist - more than 90 species of birds have been logged so far on the property!

🐾 NOW DOG FRIENDLY!
Bring up to two well-behaved adult dogs (under 40 lbs each) along for the fun! They’ll love exploring the trails and lounging in the guest house as much as you do. A guest pet nightly rate of $20 per night per dog will be added. Please share your dog’s breed, size and age (and their name!) when you make your reservation.

🍂 READY FOR ADVENTURE?
Whether you’re here for a race, a hike, or just some peace and quiet, the Mill Creek Guest House is your gateway to nature. Questions? Reach out—we’re happy to help!

Guest access
You'll have the entire guest house to yourself, plus freedom to explore more than seven acres of privately-owned outdoor space within Pisgah National Forest. Parking for two cars is available right in front, and there is space inside and outside on the property to safely store bikes as well. The other house on the property where your hosts live is private and not accessible.

Other things to note
Our road, Mill Creek Road, is a state route maintained by the NC-DOT and is unpaved in the sections winding through the national forest. It has curves and can feel narrow. AWD/4WD is not necessary but if there is snow, it will be helpful to have.

My work: I host travelers
I'm obsessed with: Kindness. And books.
Ever go somewhere and think to yourself, "I want to live here someday?" Pretty much my story! My husband and I had our wedding in the Asheville area in 2004, and we loved it so much that we moved here, bought the Inn on Mill Creek B&B and have been welcoming travelers ever since. As owners of a licensed Bed & Breakfast, hospitality is our thing and hosting is what we do for a living. You'll see 18 years' worth of reviews from our guests online.
